Sallie Lewis Sample
Sallie Lewis Sample, 73, of 505 Bypass 25 N.E., widow of Smart Sample, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Annie Mae Smith Lewis. She was a member of Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, where she was a stewardess and a Missionary member. A retired business owner, she was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 337 and the Carnation Garden Club.
Survivors include two sons, Thaddeus Sinclair Lewis of Greenwood and Vincent Alexander Sample of Charleston; two brothers, Robert Lewis of Detroit and Arthur Lewis of Hodges; two grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, Hodges, conducted by the Rev. J.J. Robinson, assisted by the Revs. Deloris Brown, Willie Norman, George Hill, Kim Martin and Willie Rice. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Entombment is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Anthony Camper, Freddie Adams, Roosevelt Ramey, Reginald Davis, Floyd Nicholson and Edward Klugh.
Flower bearers are members of Eastern Star Stellar Chapter No. 337.
Honorary escorts are Carnation Garden Club members.
A wake is 6-7 tonight at Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a son, Thaddeus Lewis, 403 Green St.
Memorials may be made to Pine Grove A.M.E. Church.

ABBEVILLE — Joseph Daryl Schall, 67, of 201 Parker St., husband of Rosemary Jones Schall, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at his home.
Services will be announced by Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.

William Henry Smith
ABBEVILLE — Services for William Henry Smith are 2 p.m. Saturday at Haigler Street Church of Christ, conducted by Brother Pressley. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Abbeville & White Mortuary.
The family is at the home of his mother-in-law, Patricia Jackson, 600 Cambridge St.

Leroy Tompkins
PLUM BRANCH — Leroy Tompkins, of Route 1, Box 34, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003.
A son of the late Arthur and Lannie Tompkins, he attended McCormick public schools. He was a member of Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, where he was a former treasurer and a member of the Male Chorus.
Survivors include five children, Thadduis Tompkins, Leroy Tompkins Jr., Alice Faye Harrison, Cynthia Halley and Keith A. Tompkins; six sisters, Evangelee Blair, Alice Tompkins, Christine Blair Dunn, Margaret L. Haskell, Lacie Zachery and Alma D. Mcalester; two brothers, Willie M. Tompkins and Robert Tompkins; 10 grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. W.O. Vance. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is at the church.
McCormick Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Marion C. Wideman
McCORMICK — Services for Marion Curtis Wideman are 2 p.m. Sunday at Tranquil A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. Derrick Scott, assisted by the Rev. Glenn Mims and Pastor Bobby Chiles. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Terry Lee Bell, Calvin Payton, Howard Harrison, Michael Dixon, Ulysses Norman and Grant Stevenson.
Flower bearers are members of McCormick High School Class of 1973.
The family is at the home of his mother, Elizabeth Rodgers Wideman, 107 Carolina St.

James Barnes Jr.
BATESBURG — James Barnes Jr., of Humphrey Street, widower of Estella Carroll Barnes, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 at his home.
A son of Tempie Tolen Barnes and the late James Barnes Sr., he lived in Greenwood for many years and was employed at Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant.
Survivors include his mother of Batesburg; three daughters, Rachel Marshall of Aiken, Mrs. Clarence (Rosie) Patterson of Greenwood, Mrs. Willie (Eddie Mae) Yeldell of Edgefield; five sons, Theodore King, John W. King, Roosevelt King, Timothy L. King, Michael Carroll, all of Greenwood; three sisters, Mary Barnes, Mrs. Tommy (Doris) Jones, both of Batesburg, Mrs. Tommy L. (Betty) Etheridge of Ridge Spring; three brothers, David Bowman of Greenville, Leon Barnes of Batesburg, Dallas Lowman of Washington , D.C.; 25 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. Juliana Hosey. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Donterrious Blair
McCORMICK — Donterrious Blair, 15, of Carolina Street, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at his home.
A son of Andrew Blair and the late Veronica Blair, he attended McCormick public schools.
Survivors include his father and a brother, Markevious Blair, both of McCormick; maternal grandmother, Clara Roberts of McCormick; maternal grandfather, James Martin; paternal grandparents, Lightning and Ruth Blair of Plum Branch.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Parksville, conducted by the Rev. E.M. Gordon, assisted by the Revs. Melvin Searles and J.C. Williams. Burial is in the church cemetery.

McCORMICK — Veronica S. Blair, 32, of Carolina Street, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at her home.
A daughter of Clara Roberts and James Martin, she attended McCormick County public schools and was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of McCormick; her father; a son, Markevious Blair of McCormick; three sisters, Carolyn Kersey of Greenwood, Annie P. Roberts of Plum Branch, Wendy Quarles of McCormick.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Parksville, conducted by the Rev. E.M. Gordon, assisted by the Revs. Melvin Searles and J.C. Williams. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is at the home of Clara Roberts, Roosevelt Drive, McCormick.

Dennis Botts
ABBEVILLE — Dennis Botts, 55, Abbeville head football coach, husband of Dionne Mallory Botts, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.

Harold Edwin Craft
ELBERTON, Ga. — Harold Edwin Craft, 80, of 3985 Montevideo Road, husband of Betty Gray-Craft, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at his home.
A native of Hart County, he was a son of the late Claude Frank Craft Jr. and Macy McCurley Craft. He was a retired founder of Craft Construction Co. Inc., establishing it in 1973 and serving as president until his retirement. A member of Good Hope Baptist Church Iva, S.C., he was co-director of Caleb’s Kim Senior Group and a choir member. He was a member of Sunrise Senior Group, Iva, and a former deacon and member of Rock Branch Baptist Church, Elberton. He was first married to the late Doris Smith Craft.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his children, Mrs. Henry (Martha) Ginn, Harold Emory Craft of Hartwell, Mrs. Ron (Edwina) Faulkenberry of Florence, S.C., Mrs. Jack (Debbie) Smith of Greenwood, S.C., Billy Craft of Starr, S.C.; two stepchildren, Rick Gray of Iva and Sonya Gray of Charlotte, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Coile of Alachua, Fla.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Rock Branch Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ed Sayer, Sam Duncan, Robbie Garrett, and Harold Emory Craft. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30.
The family is at the home.

Mary M. Davis
Mary Moreton Davis, 100, of 303 Curl Creek Road, formerly of Jackson, Miss., and Williamsburg, Va., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at National Health Care Center, Greenwood.
Born in Ora, Miss., she was a daughter of the late Dr. Winston Woodard Davis and Susie Allred Davis and a graduate of Collins High School, Collins, Miss., and Whitworth College, Brookhaven, Miss. She was an English teacher, a cosmetologist and served as a bombsight lens grinder during World War II. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, she was a longtime Sunday School teacher at Capitol Street Methodist Church, Jackson.
Survivors include two sisters, Lynn D. Cooper of the home and Mrs. John (Susan D.) Roy of Ellicott City, Md.; a brother, William W. Davis of Jackson.
A memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Main Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Paul Frey.
Honorary escorts are members of the church Bible Class.
The family is at the home of a niece, Dr. Mary Lynn Polk, with whom she made her home.
Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 211 N. Main St., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Annie Hathcox
AUGUSTA — Annie Stone Hathcox, widow of Troy Hathcox, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at University Hospital.
Born in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Elizabeth Beck Stone and a stepdaughter of the late Lilar Stone. She retired from King Mill in 1984 and was a member of Curtis Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Tommy Scott of Greenwood, S.C., Rudy Scott of Saluda, S.C., Jimmy Hathcox of Augusta; a daughter, Linda Calautti of Augusta; two brothers, Hoyt Stone of Greenwood, Sanford Stone of Elberton; seven sisters, Alli Erwin of Brunswick, Mattie Horne, Juanita McAllister, Barbara Jean McElwrath, Addie Lou Earnthart, Frances Owens of Greenwood, Bessie Lois Yeargin of Elberton; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Curtis Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Mark Harris. Burial is in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Michael Bell, Steven Givens, Tad Waddell, Eric Singletary, Stacy Scott, Stephen Scott, Warren Scott.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hatcher Funeral Home.

Gaston L. Jackson
Gaston Lawrence Jackson, 95, formerly of 415 W. Laurel Ave., widower of Erma Smith Jackson, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late John J. and Minnie Cooper Jackson. He retired from Marion Manufactory, Marion N.C. A member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church, he was a lay reader for eight years and 25 years with East Marion Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Travis L. Jackson of Raleigh, N.C.; a grandson reared in the home, Tony Jackson of Greenwood; a brother, Furman “Peanut” Ponder of Greenwood; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, conducted by the Revs. Dave Templeton and Bob Allen.
Visitation is after the service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Lowell Street United Methodist Church, c/o Capital Improvement Fund.
