Paris Cothran
JOHNSTON — Paris Cothran, 91, of 5787 Old Chappell Ferry Road, husband of Queen Andrews Cothran, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Augusta, Ga.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Paris and Tweedie Stevens. He was a member of Willow Spring Baptist Church, a World War II Army veteran and a retired farmer. He was a member of Mine Creek Burial Aide Society and Mount Calvary Burial Aide Society.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Paris Cothran Jr. of Johnston; two daughters, Barbara C. Williams of Johnston and Farrie Bluford of Silverstreet; a sister, Laura Mitchell of Greenville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Willow Spring Baptist Church, Edgefield County, conducted by the Rev. Dr. E.L. Cain.
Assisting are the Revs. Lewis Burt, Eugene Hamilton, George Key and Ernest Gordon. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces.
The family is at the home.

Lib Duvall
GREENWOOD – Elizabeth Bowie “Lib” Duvall, 82, former resident of 222 Heritage West, widow of Odell T. Duvall, died January 20, 2004 at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County March 11, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Bradley and Coreen Walls Bowie. She retired from Colson Manufacturing Company as Office Manager after 52 years of service and was more recently employed by Adobe Apparel.
A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the Lawton Sunday School Class of the church. Mrs. Duvall was predeceased by her son, Dr. John O. Duvall, sisters Sara Cason and Martha Murphey and a brother Elbert Bowie.
Surviving are a beloved niece, Betty Jo Ashcraft of Greenwood and seven grandchildren, Lee Calliham, Beth Cannon, Christopher Duvall, James Duvall, William Duvall, Chuck Duvall and Kimberly Duvall. Sisters-in-law and husbands, Betty and Jack Walton and Frankie and Melvin Everett of Greenwood and Lois Bowie of Columbia. A niece, Kim Bridges and daughter Ashley Bridges of Greenwood and a nephew Rick Walton of Seneca. A host of special friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 Friday afternoon from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ted Morton officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Lee Calliham, Beth Cannon, Chris Duvall, Ron Everett, Ricky Walton, Joe Bowie and Fred Alewine. The family is at the home of Betty Jo Ashcraft, 206 Bowles Avenue and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Thursday evening.
Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 211 Main Street North, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to The Piedmont Agency on Aging Meals on Wheels, 808 South Emerald Road, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Peggy Ann Readett
CLOVER — Peggy Ann Smith Readett, 54, wife of William David Readett, of 1264 Hines Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Born in Westminster, she was a daughter of Fred Smith and Geneva Pitts Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church Clover.
Survivors include her parents of Westminster; her husband of Clover; two sons, Matthew David Readett and Timothy Allen Readett, both of Clover; a daughter, Jennifer Leigh R. Snipes of Hickory Grove; four brothers, Jerry Smith, Curtis Smith, Freddy Smith and Randy Smith, all of Westminster; three sisters, Deborah S. Moore and Melinda S. Corbett, both of Westminster and Carolyn S. Kimbrell of Greenville; two grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Clover, conducted by the Revs. David J. Stanford and Jim McConnell. Burial is in Lakeview Memory Gardens, York.
Visitation is 1-2:30 Friday at the church.

Marion P. Scott
WARE SHOALS — Marion Pitts Scott, 95, widow of Bertie Austin Scott, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 in Titusville, Fla.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late George Plummer and Nora Watkins Pitts. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Austin Scott of Titusville; a sister, Rachael P. Russell of Ware Shoals; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Wicker. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 1-2 Friday at the funeral home.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Samuel C. Talbert Sr.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Samuel Charles “Sam” Talbert Sr., 96, of 6100 W. Friendly Ave., widower of Elizabeth Scarborough Talbert, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at Friends Home West.
Born in Abbeville County, S.C., he was a son of the late Joseph Miller and Sallie Mathis Talbert. Reared in the Buffalo Community of McCormick County, S.C., he graduated from McCormick High School and attended the Citadel and Clemson University. In 1932, he moved to Greensboro and established many grocery stores in the Guilford Community. Later, he built the Talbert Building across from Guilford College and was instrumental in establishing the first bank in the community. He was also a real estate broker. A member of New Garden Friends Meeting and New Garden Men’s Brotherhood Sunday School Class, he was a trustee of the New Garden Cemetery Association for many years and served as the charter president of Guilford College Lions Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Rodney D. (Elizabeth “Betty” Talbert) Jackson of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Thomas L. (Sara “Sally” Talbert) Cannady III of Greensboro; a son, Samuel Charles Talbert Jr. of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, J. Wallace Talbert of Greensboro.
Services were Saturday at New Garden Friends Meeting. Burial was in New Garden Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons, along with David Wrenn.
Memorials may be made to Friends Home Inc., 6100 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410; New Garden Friends Meeting, 801 New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC 29410 or a charity of one’s choice.

David Wright
GREENWOOD – David Alexander Wright, 41, of 104 Shrine Club Road, husband of Shirley Driggers Wright, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at his home.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of Evelyn Norrell Rawls and the late Johnny Wright. He was a carpenter and attended Lakeside Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristie Wright.
Surviving is his wife of the home and his mother of Bradley; three sons, Steven Wright of Waterloo, Caury Barnett and Jake Barnett, both of Greenwood; two daughters, Scarlett Perry of Greenwood and Cleta Barron of Waterloo; three sisters, Lisa Hay of Bradley, Diane Pulley of Greenwood and Tricia Peay of Seneca; a brother, John Wright of Seneca; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Cooper officiating. Burial will be Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Pulley, Brandon Bowick, Brandon Proctor, Scotty Rozier, Bobby Rozier and Chris Perry. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family is at the home.

Ralph Gibert Jr.
TERRE HAUTE, IND. — Ralph Gibert Jr., 36, of 1476 S. 14th St., husband of Pamela Gibert, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Ralph and Shirley Gibert. He was reared by his grandfather, the late Daniel Anderson. He attended McCormick High School and was a member of Spring Grove Baptist Church, Mount Carmel, S.C.
Survivors include his wife of Greenwood; a son, Christopher Gibert of Indiana; two sisters, Venice Gibert of Greenwood and Sandra Anthony of Mount Carmel; and two brothers, Derrick and Michael Gibert of Mount Carmel.
The family is at the home of his grandmother, Louella Anderson, Hwy 823, Mount Carmel, S.C.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary, Abbeville, S.C.

Florence Gordon
WARE SHOALS — Florence Strawhorn Gordon, 95, of Grove Street, widow of Mark Gordon, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Parker-White Funeral Home.

Georgia Washington Little
APPLING, Ga. — Georgia Washington Little, 88, of Lake Crossing Nursing Home, widow of Fred Little, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington , Ga.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Mamie McIntosh Washington and Henry Washington . She was the last remaining survivor of her immediate family.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.
The family is at the home of a niece, Eunice Brown, 101 Stonehaven Drive, Raintree Apt. No. 13, Greenwood.

Sandra Bolton
NINETY SIX — Sandra Crouch Bolton, 56, of 202 Millionaire Road, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at Hospice House of Anderson.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Louise Rice Crouch Ashmore and the late Mark L. Crouch. She was a 1965 Greenwood High School graduate and an employee of Cutler Hammer. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of Greenwood; three daughters, Tammy B. Kirk, Tara B. Calliham and Shannon Bolton, all of Greenwood; a brother, David Ashmore of Greenwood; two sisters, Cindy Greene of Cedar Mountain, N.C., and Faye Helton of Columbia; five grandchildren; a companion, Carl Nabors.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Hal Lane. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Eddy Davis, Hub Johnson, Randy Dennin, Troy Dennin, Billy C. Nabors, Stan Kingsmore, Ken Kirk and Gene Thomas.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Viewing is 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Abbeville & White Mortuary.
The family is at the home of his grandmother, Louella Anderson, Highway 823, Mount Carmel.

Matthew Greene Sr.
Services for Matthew Greene Sr., of 605 Pelzer St., are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morris Chapel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James McKee, assisted by the Revs. James Fisher and Guy Ross Jr. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Sammie Lee Brown Jr., Quantico Brunson, Chris Cheatham, Reggie Johnson, David Partlow and Brad Webb.
Flower bearers are Jackie Boyd-Mills, Toi Partlow, Nita Prince, Elesha Robinson, Lorraine Ross, Cassandra Singley, Shay Stevens, Yolanda Taylor and Tennille Boyd.
Honorary escorts are from Emerald High School Class of 1996 and Greenwood Tire Co.
Visitation is at the home of his mother, 309 Parker St.
An additional survivor is a sister, Janice Fisher of Greenwood.

‘Spat’ Langford
SALUDA — George Garrett “Spat” Langford, 86, of 301 N. Jefferson St., husband of Sophia R. Langford, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at his home.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Luther Harmon and Florence Lake Langford. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 214, the South Carolina DAV No. 37 and American Legion Post No. 65. He was also a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Benjamin (Carolyn L.) Merchant Jr. of Saluda and Mrs. Michael (Mae L.) Everitt of Honea Path; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; adopted children, Pam and Gerald Cromer, Naomi and William Goodman; and caregiver, Sherelleyn Dukes.
Graveside services are 5 p.m. Saturday at Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Gary Romines.
Memorials may be made to the Indigent Healthcare Fund, c/o Dr. Ralph Riley, 595 Newberry Highway, Saluda, SC 29138.
