LAURENS — Betty G. Walker, 66, of 1798 Ranch Road, wife of Jimmie C. Walker, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lanford, she was a daughter of the late Willie Boyd and Emma Phinney Godfrey. She was a former employee of Wal-Mart Distribution and a charter member of Wayside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Jeffery C. Walker of Laurens; two daughters, Teresa Snipes of Augusta, Ga., Amy Buckheister of Charleston; a brother, Vincent Godfrey of Enoree; five grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Wayside Baptist Church. Burial is in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Gray Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sara Williams
October 8, 1920 - March 12, 2004
ANDERSON, SC — Mrs. Sara Ballard Williams, age 83 of 1005 Twelve Oaks Drive, Anderson, SC, wife of the late Raymond Williams, went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 12, 2004 at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Anderson, SC on October 8, 1920, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Joseph Ballard and Minnie McConnell Ballard. She was a former owner of the Kangaroo Pouch. She was a member of Garner Memorial Baptist Church where she was also a former teacher of the Alathean Sunday School Class and a choir member.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Williams Hernandez and son-in-law, Albert J. Hernandez; grandchildren, Brandon Bailey and his wife, Jane, Kim Phillips and her husband,Lanny, great-grandchildren, Hannah Bailey, Zackary Bailey, Cody Phillips, Emily Phillips and Katie Phillips; brother, Bill Ballard and his wife, Ruth Ballard of Anderson; sisters-in-law, Edna Zastawny of Reno, NV, Margie Peeler of Greenwood, SC and Flora Condon of Charleston, SC; brothers-in-law, Lewis Williams of Miami, FL and Clifton Williams of Anderson, SC; step-children, Patricia Tuft, Richard Hernandez, Melody Pieters, Bryan Hernandez, Barry Hernandez and Cheri Rickwood.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie B. Burris and Essie Turner.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2004 at 4:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Sam Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Old Silverbrook Cemetery, Anderson, SC.
The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm on Sunday, March 14, 2004.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Cheryl Hernandez, 1005 Twelve Oaks Drive, Anderson, SC.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Garner Memorial Baptist Church, 902 Glenn Street, Anderson, SC 29625 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Sallie Mae Blanchett
ABBEVILLE, SC – Sallie Mae Bond Blanchett, 98, resident of Abbeville Nursing Home widow of William Guy Blanchett died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the nursing home. Born in Elbert Co. Georgia she was a daughter of the late Edward Marion and Cornelia Phelps Blanchett.
Mrs. Blanchett was very fond of her church and was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mrs. Blanchett was an avid fisherman and also loved to go camping. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by: 2 sons - Vessie and his wife Myrtis Blanchett of Abbeville and James Murray and his wife Lucy Blanchett of Fort Lauderdale, FL. A daughter Essie and her husband Douglas Sparks of Abbeville, SC; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 daughters Madeline B. Staples and Betty B. Smith and a grandson Henry E. Staples, III.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday March 20, 2004 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery in Abbeville, SC.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening. The family is at the home of her son Mr. &Mrs. Vessie Blanchett, 234 Old Calhoun Falls Rd., Abbeville, SC.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Margaret Mayer Gasper
FLORENCE — Margaret Bouknight Mayer Gasper, 89, widow of Theodore Howard Gasper, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at a retirement home in Florence.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Luther and Sue Ida Bouknight Mayer. She graduated from Lander University in 1935 and taught school in Ware Shoals. She worked in mathematical support with the Army Air Corps at Aberdeen Proving Grounds during World War II. After the war, she worked for the S.C. Department of Public Welfare, becoming a supervisor. She returned to teaching in 1966 at Poyner and Moore schools and retired in 1976. She was a member of St. Anthony’s and St. Ann’s Catholic churches.
Survivors include six sons, Dr. Fulton J. Gasper of Columbia and Orangeburg, Dr. Theodore H. Gasper Jr. of Littleton and Weldon, N.C., Stephen M. Gasper of Shelby, N.C., Leo Phillip Gasper of Albany, Ga., Kenneth L. Gasper of Garner, N.C., Andrew Christopher Gasper of Texas ; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass is 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, conducted by Father Art Dalupang and Father Michael Corrigan. Entombment is in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Cain Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2536 W. Hoffmeyer Road, Florence, SC 29501; St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 113 S. Kemp St., Florence, SC 29506; Lander University, Greenwood, SC or Halifax Community College, P.O. Drawer 809, Weldon, NC 27890.

Evelyn Funderburk Hollingsworth
GREENWOOD – Evelyn Funderburk Hollingsworth, 89, formerly of 2614 Edgefield Street, widow of James Fred Hollingsworth, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Fannie Mae Helms Funderburk. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was a member of Trinity Church.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred L. and Sara Ann Hollingsworth of Greenville and Neil and Brenda Hollingsworth of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Carol Hollingsworth McManus, Eric Hollingsworth, Dock Hollingsworth, Paula Hollingsworth Frost, and Hillary Hollingsworth Craigo and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tony Hopkins and the Rev. Dock Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Barry Hollingsworth, Johnny Smith, Jimmy Smith, Charles Funderburk, Mike Funderburk, Wayne Funderburk, Dwight Funderburk, Steve Funderburk, Carl Funderburk, and Don Funderburk.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
The family is at the home of her son, Neil Hollingsworth, 230 Elliott Street and her granddaughter, Carol McManus, 112 Loblolly Circle.

Kathleen R. Maurer
McCORMICK — Kathleen Raleigh Maurer, 58, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at McCormick Health Care. Born in Madison, Wis., she was a daughter of Beaulah Raleigh and the late Ronald Raleigh. She was a secretary and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her mother of LaCross, Wis.; a son, James Wyland of Minneapolis; a daughter, Linda Wyland of McCormick; three brothers, Peter Raleigh of LaCross, Wallace Raleigh of Minneapolis, Raymond Kreull of Vermont; a sister, Sharon Hubbard of Flint, Mich.; two grandchildren.
Memorial services are in Prentice, Wis., at a later date.
Strom Funeral Home is in charge.

Kay Reeder
NINETY SIX — Woodrow Kay Reeder Jr., 63, of 204 Draper St., husband of Linda Harter Reeder, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at his home.
Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late Woodrow Kay Reeder Sr. and Inez May Reeder. He was a driver for Carter Trucking and retired from Greenwood Mills, Sloan Plant, after 41 years of service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Gail Harrison of Ninety Six; a sister, Brenda Dowis of Ninety Six; four grandchildren.
Graveside services are 5 p.m. today at Elmwood Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Charles Owens.
Pallbearers are Stephen Carter, Bill Carter, Darren Carter, John Holmes, Phillip Fortner and David Bradberry.
Honorary escorts are J.W. Timms, Harold Butler, Eddie Carter and Ryan Bradberry. The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646. Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge of arrangements.

Gregory J. Richardson
Gregory Jerome “Big G” Richardson, 46, of 103 Corley St., husband of Debra Yvonne Coleman Richardson, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Lura Richardson Linton and the late Thomas Mosley. He was a member of Durham Temple C.M.E. Church, where he was a Male Chorus member. A 1975 graduate of Greenwood High School, he was an employee of Velux and former employee of Greenwood Packing Plant. He served in the Army for 13 years and was a member of The Golden Keys Quartet.
Survivors include his wife and his mother of the home; his stepmother, Janie Bell Mosley of Greenwood; a stepson, Tyrone James Blocker of Greenwood; four daughters, Trinadad Richardson, Trinadee Richardson, Marshae Richardson, all of Columbia, Cynthia Scruggs of Germany; two stepdaughters, Melody Chantell Blocker, Tiffany Ann Blocker, both of Greenwood; three brothers, John T. Mosley Jr. of Pooler, Ga., Ricky Mosley of Taylors, Bobby J. Mosley of San Diego; three cousins reared in the home, Cynthia Brown of Greenwood, Sgt. Willie Joe Richardson of Norfolk, Va., William Richardson of Anderson; a grandchild.
The family is at the home of his mother, 103 Corley St.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Yeldell
Willie Mae Lagroon Yeldell, 86, of 205 McKellar Drive, widow of Henry Yeldell, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Hoyt and Liza Ann Bowie Lagroon. She was a member of Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Melvin Lagroon of Callison; two sisters, Rosa Lee White and Mae Frances Coats, both of Greenwood; three stepchildren, Mrs. Register (Annie Lee) Nicholson of Ninety Six, Mrs. Johnnie (Patricia) Wade of Orlando, Fla., Linda Susswell of Greenwood; three grandchildren, one reared in the home, Stacey Palmore of Charleston; several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of Annie Lee Palmore, 205 McKellar Drive.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

John Willie Harlings
Services for John Willie “Rubber Leg” Harlings, of 370 Cokesbury Road, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Grove Baptist Church, Callison, conducted by the Rev. Wilbert Simpson. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is 7-8 Friday at Robinson & Son Mortuary.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Nina Perrin Quarles
ABBEVILLE — Nina Perrin Quarles, 89, of 102 Saw Mill Acres, widow of A.B. Quarles, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late George and Classie Holloway Perrin. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church and the Women’s Home Aid Society No. 86. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Middleton of the home; a sister, Sallie J. Middleton of Philadelphia; an adopted son, Johnny Wardlaw of Abbeville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

Helen P. Rogers
SALUDA — Helen Catherine Proctor Rogers, 83, of 128 Rogers Road, widow of Clyde Rogers, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Kirksey and Elizabeth “Bessie” Berry Proctor. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Roy W. Rogers and Ernest Jerry Rogers, both of Saluda; a daughter, Kathy R. Ergle of Saluda; a sister, Mildred Bledsoe of Saluda; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ron Elliott. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is after the services at the church.
Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 2226 Denny Highway, Saluda, SC 29138.

Earl Wideman
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Earl Wideman, formerly of 564 Baptist St., Greenwood, S.C., widower of Lovey Nellums Wideman, died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at his home in Sacramento.
A native of Greenwood, he was a son of the late George and Polly Wideman. He retired as a master sergeant from the Air Force and from civil service at McClellan Air Force Base. A graduate of Brewer High School in Greenwood, he received an associate of arts degree from American River University and a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Champion College, both in Sacramento.
Survivors include a daughter, Yolanda Wideman Tillman of Sacramento; a niece reared in the home, Shekeya Strong of Sacramento; two brothers, Joel Wideman of Chisel Hurst, N.J., and George Wideman Jr. of Spartanburg, S.C.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Monday at New Testament Baptist Church. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery.
Morgan and Jones Funeral Home is in charge.

COKESBURY — Patricia Ann Makins Burt, 51, of 110 Shurlington Lane S., died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Mary Frances Makins. She was reared by her grandmother, Azzile Brown Makins. She was an employee at Wal-Mart, a 1972 Greenwood High School graduate and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Coronaca, where she was a member of the Inspirational Choir and the Divorced Ministry. She received a bachelor of science degree from Lander in 1993.
Survivors include her mother of Manhattan, N.Y.; a daughter, Angela Nicole Burt of the home; four brothers, Tommy Lee Makins of Cokesbury, Emanuel and Jamal, both of Manhattan, Franklin Jerry Makins of Atlanta; a sister, Frances Jean Makins of Inman; two grandchildren reared in the home, Dominick Harrison and Adeja Burt; her grandmother of the home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.
