Ray Ousley
Ray Willard Ousley, 92, of 216 Crestmont Drive, widower of Polly Walker Ousley, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., he was a son of the late Esco Eli and Mariah Jane Warwick Ousley. He was an army veteran of WWII where he served in the European Campaign with the 101st Air Borne Division. He retired from Gastonia Roller, Flyer & Spindle Co., Inc., having previously been associated with Appalachian Mills, Dan River Mills and J.P. Stevens. He was active in the Greenwood Schools PTA, scouting, a member of the First Baptist Church, the Baracca Sunday School Class and served as an usher. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Greenwood Country Club, the Master Gardener Club and the Southern Textile Association.
Survivors include a son, Robert W. “Bob” Ousley of the home; a brother, Paul E. Ousley of Knoxville, Tenn.; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Tony Hopkins.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ted Martin, Frank Coursey, Ray Prince, James Clinkscales, Wayne Maxie, Gerald Jeffcott, Jerry Davis and Jerry Miller.
Honorary escorts are members of the Northwest Fire and Rescue Department, the Baracca Sunday School Class, ushers of the First Baptist Church, Carl Seigler, Steve Odom, Bill and Pat LaCoste, Richard and Rachel Brown, Matt and Angie Brewington, Earl Brewington Sr., Bob and Hannah Poe and Tom Wood.
Visitation is 5-7 today at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home in Edgemere.

Sarah Lucile Wrenn Stevens
Sarah Lucile Wrenn Stevens, 94, formerly of 1006 Marshall Road, widow of Carroll Heyward Stevens, died Saturday, May 01, 2004 at the home of her daughter, Ruth Breazeale, 178 Orchard Park.
Born in Edgefield; a daughter of the late Lemuel Alfred and Eula Mell Harrison Wrenn. She was formerly employed with Greenwood Mills and was a member of Woodfields Baptist Church, where she was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. She was pre-deceased by her son, James Heyward Stevens.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Breazeale of Greenwood, Mrs. William A. “Millie” Hagood and her husband, Bill of Greenwood; grandchildren, Marla Stewart and her husband, Lee of Greenwood, Kimberly Biggs and her husband, Fletcher of Hartsville, James Stevens Hanke and his children, Lyndsey Erica and Kyle Stevens Hanke of Greenwood, Mark Heyward Stevens and his wife, Marie and their son, William Heyward Stevens of Honea Path, and Robert Kyle Hanke his wife, Nancy and their children, Lacey Gunter and Robert James Hanke.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Woodfields Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Kinion officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The body is at Harley Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday night from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 2:00 p.m. Monday.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William A. “Millie” Hagood, 105 Dargan Ave.
Harley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph ‘Dunny’ Wrenn
WARE SHOALS — Joseph “Dunny” Junior Wrenn, 71, of 148 Poplar Springs Road, husband of Lois McLaughlin Wrenn, died Friday, April 30, 2004 at his home.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Joseph P. and Beatrice Weathers Wren.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Mary Ann W. Ledford, Fair Play, S.C.; a brother, Marvin Wrenn, Waterloo; a sister, Frances Nation, Waterloo and one grandchild.
Services are 3 p.m. Monday at Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. Tommy Wooten, Grady Lothridge and Billy Pinson. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kevin Summers, Joe Rogers, Bruce Chapman, Rick Nabors, Earl Madden, Terry Burdette, James McAllister and Richard Wrenn.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Autrey W. Cox
HODGES — Autrey Wayne Cox, 66, of 4314 Moorefield St., husband of Mary Stone Cox, died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at his home.
Born in Ashville, Ala., he was a son of the late Orman and Ruby Odonell Cox. He was a construction worker and served in the army.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Chad Cox of Hodges; a stepdaughter, Mable Faris of Clinton; five sisters, Barbara Kay and Patricia Bunt, both of Ragland, Ala., Dean Seviney of Oxford, Ala., Bernice Walls of Greenwood and Vicki Massie of Greenville; three brothers, Gene Cox and the Rev. Marlin Cox, both of Ashville, Ala., Warren Cox of Greenwood; and two grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bob Piephoff and Mr. Otto McDonald. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Ora P. Henderson
LAURENS — Ora Pauline Hovis Henderson, 86, of Laurens, widow of Laurens Alexander Henderson, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Margaret Robertson Hovis. She retired from Riegel Textile Corporation and was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Mother’s Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara H. Holcombe of Belton; one son, Kenneth D. Henderson of Laurens, thirteen (13) grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Judy H. Hinton and a great-grandson, Matthew Leopard.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at 3 PM at Union Baptist Church by Rev. Bryant Sims, Rev. Jim Osteen and Rev. Alex D. Henderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Scott Holcombe, Kevin Holcombe, Lance Holcombe, Travis Holcombe, Michael Henderson, Greg Hinton, John Braswell and Todd Milam. Honorary escort will be the Mother’s Sunday School Class of Union Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 PM on Monday, May 3, 2004, at Parker-White Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church Van Fund, Old Quaker Church Road, Laurens, SC 29360. The family is at the home of the son, Kenneth D. Henderson, 6271 Hwy. 252, Laurens.

Ralph Radcliffe
Ralph (Rip) DuBose Radcliffe, Sr. 81, of Greenwood, widower of Ann Hollis Radcliffe died May 2, 2004 at the Sterling House of Greenwood.
Born in Lee County, August 15, 1922, he was a son of the late Henry Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Clark Radcliffe. He was a graduate of Bishopville High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Radcliffe was a World War II Army Veteran awarded with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart during his service. He retired after 39 years of service from the South Carolina Highway Patrol with the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. Radcliffe was a member of the Alpine Masonic Lodge #208 in Clover, the Hejaz Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Body. He was also a member of Panola United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Rev. Karen H. Radcliffe of Williamston and Diane L. Radcliffe of Mt. Pleasant; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph D. Jr. and Ruth Radcliffe of Columbia and Arthur H. and Lisa Radcliffe of Greer. One brother, Tom Radcliffe of Greenville and one sister, Doris Parker of Ladson, SC. Four grandchildren, Russell James Burgess and Rebecca Ann Radcliffe, both of Columbia, Wylan Arthur Radcliffe and Madalin Grace Radcliffe, both of Greer.
Mr. Radcliffe was predeceased by a brother, Hebron Radcliffe and a sister, Myrtle Catoe.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 PM Tuesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Karen H. Radcliffe, Dr. Robert E. Titus, Rev. Candice Y. Sloan and Rev. Peggy J. Garland officiating.
Entombment, with South Carolina Trooper Association Honor Guard, will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Wilson, Frankie Connell, Ronald Forrest, Curtis Burnett, Sonny Nickolaus, Donnie Perry, Dennis Beauford and Dan Wideman.
Honorary escort will be members of the Kate Holly Sunday School Class of Panola United Methodist Church, SC Troopers Association, SC Honorary Sheriffs Association along with Jack Gardner, David Fisher, Al Connell, Randy Rouse, Bob Poore, Jerry Bedenbaugh, John Vinson, Sammy Reighley, Jerry Peeples and Ralph Thomas.
The family is at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Monday evening.

Phyllis C. Simone
ABBEVILLE — Phyllis Conner Simone, 51, of 7051 Cambridge St., died Saturday, May 1, 2004.
Born in Atlanta, she was a daughter of the late Lillie Mae Conner and Samuel Robinson. She attended Abbeville County Public School and was a member of Cypress Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Conner of Atlanta; three sisters, Patricia Conner and Martha Johnson, both of Abbeville, Betty Conner of Chicago and a brother, James Conner of Chicago.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary.

Horace Carlay
Horace Crawford Carlay, 88, of 116 Enterpise Court, husband of Mildred Dukes Carlay, died Saturday, May 15, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late John Willie and Leila McCarthy Carlay. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School, Greenwood College of Commerce and retired from the US Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver, Colo. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP and Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife of the home.
Services are 4 p.m. Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Tucker. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Calvin Coursey, Johnie Ballentine, Rodger Hembree, James Rogers, Jim Sprouse, Ray Hembree, Terry Latham, Scott Latham, Kevin Hembree, Joshua Rogers and Garnett Latham.

Oscar Ray Kirby
SPARTANBURG — Oscar Ray “Doc” Kirby, 74, of 4 Ash Street, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at his home. Born September 16, 1929, in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Oscar James and Annie Lee Branch Kirby. He was the husband of Joanne Johnson Kirby.
He was retired as Plant Manager of Synalloy Corporation and was a member of Spartan Masonic Lodge #70, a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Baptist faith. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the U. S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Christopher Ray Kirby of Boiling Springs, SC; a daughter, Raeanne Pless of Boiling Springs, SC; a sister, Shirley Leopard of Ninety Six, SC; two grandsons, Kyle Kirby of Spartanburg and Joshua Pless of Boiling Springs; and a granddaughter, Anna Pless of Boiling Springs, SC.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2004, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Jones. Masonic Rites will be administered at the grave site. Jimmie Lewis
Jimmie Lewis, 70, of 607 A Greene St., died Saturday, May 15, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Simpson and Daisy Robinson Lewis. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, an army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Lloyd Roofing Company.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Baylor Lewis of Salisbury, N.C.; a son, Jimmie Donnell Lewis of Greenwood; two daughters, Joyce Bowie of Salisbury, N.C. and Harper Rollinson of Greenwood; a sister, Willie Bell Anty of Donalds; a niece, reared in the home, Linda Gaskin of Greenwood; and seven grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home.

Nanette Milling
COLUMBIA — Nanette Milling, 85, died Saturday, May 15, 2004 at Palmetto Health Baptist Columbia Hospital.
Born in Albany, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Fletcher Thomas and Nan Chapman Currie of Greenwood. She was an active member of the Forest Lake Presbyterian Women’s Circle No. 3.
Survivors include her husband, John Butler Milling Sr. of Columbia; two sons, John B. Milling Jr. of Wedgefield and Brooks C. Milling of Columbia; two daughters, Gail M. Gore of McCormick and Cynthia M. Jackson of Newberry; a brother, Dr. Howard Currie of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James St. John.
Visitation is following the service at the church parlor.
Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Old Greenwood Cemetery on Cambridge St., Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James St. John.
