Lee Nelson Sweezy
Lee Nelson Sweezy, infant son of Jimmy Ray Jr. and Dee’l Lee Sweezy, of 122 Kennsington Drive, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Taylor Alexis Sweezy of the home; maternal grandparents, Judy Nelson of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Kuker Lee of Johnson City, Tenn.; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ray Sweezy Sr. of Greenwood; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D.K. Lee Jr. of Ware Shoals and George Nelson of Greenwood; paternal great-grandmother, Sara Smith of Greenwood.
Memorial services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Hodges United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Nina Reynolds. Burial is in Ware Shoals Cemetery.
The family is at the home.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Clifton C. Wells Jr.
ATLANTA — Clifton Claude Wells Jr., 39, of 1822 Silvan Road S.E., died Tuesday, June 9, 2004.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Clifton Claude Wells Sr. and Phyllis Ann Sayles Wells. He was a former member of Little Zion A.M.E. Church, and was disabled by an extended illness.
Survivors include a son, Clifton Claude Wells III of Atlanta; a daughter, Alexis Wells of Atlanta; a stepdaughter, Hurlemia Jackson of Atlanta;
two brothers, Dedric Leon Wells of Atlanta and Jackie Jones of Greenwood; three sisters, Linda Williams and Veronica Wells, both of Greenwood, Lesa Sayles of Hodges, S.C.; a grandchild; a grandmother, Gertrude Wells Jones of Greenwood.
The family is at the home of a sister, Veronica Wells, 102-F Tennessee Court, Greenwood.

Mary H. Carter
Mary Hinson Carter, 70, formerly of Greenwood, widow of Earle W. Carter, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mae Hinson.
Survivors include three sons, Earle William “Bill” Carter Jr. of Greenville, Benjamin Joseph “Ben” Carter of Lexington and Robert Michael “Bob” Carter of Greenwood; a daughter, Mrs. Ronnie (Kathy) Coleman of Greenwood; a brother, Albert Hinson of Columbia; a sister, Sarah Evans of Columbia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Richard McWhite.
Visitation is 1:30-2:30 today at Blyth Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Saluda Nursing Center, P.O. Box 398, Saluda, SC 29138.

Flora L. McLaughlin
Flora Louise McLaughlin, 75, of 214 N. Bethune St., wife of Willie McLaughlin, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Dillon County, she was a daughter of the late Lindsey and Sarah Hawkins Graves. She graduated from Gordon High School, Dillon, in 1947, received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Claflin College in 1952 and did further studies at the University of South Carolina. She retired as a teacher in Greenwood public schools after 30 years of service, teaching at Merrywood Elementary and East End Elementary. A former member of New Holly United Methodist Church, Dillon, she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a youth director and a member and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a former first vice president of the I.V.P.O.E.W. Elks, a member of Harmony Chapter No. 282, Order of the Eastern Star, past president of the American Legion Post 224 Auxiliary Unit and state vice president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as director of the Seaboard Recreation Center and operated a private pre-school for 13 years. She was also a member of the Gardenia Garden Club, The Negro Business and Professional Club, the Friends Club and president of the Renaissance Club.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Gearlean McLaughlin of the home; two brothers, Andrew D. Graves and William Graves, both of Dillon; six sisters, Sarah Sellers, Annie B. Dunson, Blondell Thomas and Lennese Clark, all of Dillon, Cora Carmichael and Alease Lyman, both of Trenton, N.J.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Alice Aileen Nixon
LOWNDESVILLE — Alice Aileen Loftis Nixon, 88, of 242 Main St., Highway 81, widow of W.D. Nixon, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at her home.
Born in Calhoun Falls, she was a daughter of the late John Evans and Lula Mae Watkins Loftis. She was a retired weaver with Abbeville Mills and a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Frankie G. Nixon; a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Sherri N.) Caldwell; two brothers, Joe Loftis of Abbeville and Billy Loftis of Forest Park, Ga.; five sisters, Johnnie Botts and Mary Breedlove, both of Abbeville, Betty Sammons of Calhoun Falls; Clatie McNeil of Greenville, Tobatha Thompson of Virginia; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, Abbeville, conducted by the Revs. Thomas Smith, Randy Fleming and Nina Reynolds. Burial is in Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lowndesville.
Visitation is 1-2 Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Miss Willie Mae Trotter
WARD — Services for Miss Willie Mae Trotter, 85, will be held Sunday, June 13 at Ward Baptist Church at 3 PM with Rev. J. R. Baker, Rev. Francis Miller and Rev. Larry Kyzer officiating. Interment will follow in Lutheran Good Hope Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bland Funeral Home in Johnston prior to the service from 2-2:45.
Memorials may be made to Spann Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Russell Hughes, 774 Fruit Hill Road, Saluda, SC 29138.
Miss Trotter, a native of Ward, died Friday, June 11, 2004. She was a daughter of the late J. W. and Carrie Mae Chapman Trotter. A 1939 graduate of Lander College, she taught school in Saluda, Ward and later in Batesburg until she retired. She was an active community volunteer, serving at the Saluda Nursing Center, the Baptist Hospital, and on the Farm/City Week Committee, by which she was named Citizen of the Year. Miss Trotter was a Neighborhood Crime Watch organizer, a member of the Saluda County Historical Society and the Ridge Spring Garden Club. She was a longstanding member and Sunday School Teacher at Ward Baptist Church.
She is survived by cousins: Mary Alice Hyler, Batesburg, Maxwell Williams, Epworth, Leona T. Edwards, Saluda, and H. Virginia Trotter Mitchell, Saluda. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth and her parents.

Jakob Ables
NINETY SIX — Jakob Ables, infant son of Ronnie and Holly Hutchinson Ables Jr., died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his parents of the home; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Wanda Hutchinson of Waterloo; paternal grandparents, Ronnie and Vicki Ables Sr. of Greenwood; maternal great-grandmothers, Lorraine Duncan of Greenwood and Bobbie Lodge of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and paternal great-grandparents, Leonard and Jane Ables of Honea Path.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday at Oakbrook Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Jones Brewer.
The family is at the home.

Grover ‘Pat’ Boles
CLINTON — Grover Patrick “Pat” Boles, 43, of 101 E. Bluford St., died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of Judy Sanders Boles and the late Walter Calvin Boles He was employed with Bonitz Construction in Greenville.
Survivors include two sons, Justin Patrick Boles of Greenwood and Matthew Brookes Lawter of Greenwood; two sisters, Tammy Simmons of Clinton and Ann Keeton of Kentucky; and five brothers, Heyward Boles of West, Miss., Terry Boles of Clinton, Charles Boles, Lee Boles and Thomas Boles, all of Kentucky.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gray Funeral Home. Burial is in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation if 7-9 tonight at Gray Funeral Home.
Gray Funeral Home is in charge.

Rejohn Wright
Rejohn Wright of 1047 Phoenix St., Apt. 4, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at his residence.
The family is at the home of a cousin, Mary Prince, 143 Hackett Ave.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home.

George Buell
ABBEVILLE — George Walter Buell, 52, resident of 246 Raven Wood Circle in Piedmont, SC, husband of Donna Holt Buell, died June 14, 2004 at Greenville, SC.
Born in Virginia, he was a son of Clyde and Marion Buell.
He was a graduate of Carson-Newman College where he earned a BA degree in Religion. He was the Production Coordinator for the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Department in Seneca, SC. He was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 210 in Powdersville, SC. He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, member of the Adult Choir and a Royal Ambassador leader.
Survivors are his wife, Donna Holt Buell of the home; 1 son, Geoffrey Travis Buell of the home; parents, Clyde and Marion Buell of John’s Island SC; 2 brothers, Tommy Buell and Raymond Buell, both of Charleston, SC; 3 sisters, Donna Croom, Patti Quijano, Mary Buell, all of Charleston, SC.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday June 16, 2004 at 1:00 PM from Abbeville First Baptist Church with the Revs. Dennis VanCuren and Jonathan Taylor officiating. The burial will follow in the Stapleton First Baptist Church Cemetery in Stapleton, GA at 4:00 PM Wednesday afternoon.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM Wednesday afternoon in the Church social hall of Abbeville First Baptist Church.

WARE SHOALS — Flossie Marie Robinson, 41, of 14 Briar St., died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Augusta, Ga., she was a daughter of Ella Hester Robinson and the late Jimmy Robinson. She was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School.
Survivors include two sons, Desmond Robinson and Todd Robinson of Donalds; her mother of Augusta; six brothers, Richard Robinson of Spartanburg, Milton Robinson, Willie Robinson and Larry Robinson of Donalds, Thomas Willis and Nathaniel Ramsey of Augusta; three sisters, Ethel McGrier and Sara Cyrus of Donalds, Katie Robinson of Augusta.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson-Walker Funeral Service, conducted by the Rev. Sylvester Jackson and Minister James Coleman. Burial is in Dunn Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 7-8 tonight at the funeral home. Viewing begins at noon today at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a sister, Ethel McGrier, 310 Dunn’s Creek Road, Donalds.

Clifton C. Wells Jr.

Etta Hayes
GREENWOOD – Etta Strickland Hayes, 92, resident of 106 Timberwood Rd., widow of C. J. Hayes, died June 15, 2004 at NHC of Greenwood.
Born in Johnson City, TN, January 4, 1912, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Julia Brockwell Strickland. She was retired from Nettie Lee Boy & Girl Shop in Johnson City, TN and had made her home in Greenwood since 1980.
Mrs. Hayes was a member of North Side Baptist Church in Greenwood.
Surviving is one daughter, Patricia H. Cook of Greenwood and two grandchildren, Karen M. Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin G. (Glenda) Cook, all of Greenwood; and a great-grandchild, Kierstin H. Cook of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, June 17, 2004 at North Side Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Lethco and Rev. Steve Watson officiating.
Burial will be Saturday in Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City, TN.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM Thursday.
The family is at the home on Timberwood Rd. and will receive friends at the church from 1:00 till 2:00 Thursday afternoon.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to North Side Baptist Church Building fund, 409 Northside Dr. W., Greenwood, SC 29649.
