James M. Goode
NINETY SIX — James M. “Nug” Goode, 74, of 224 Waller Road, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Alex and Sallie Bell Cain Goode. He retired from Ninety Six Oil Mill and was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth.
Survivors include two sisters, Sarah Blocker of Ninety Six and Iola Dunlap of New York; a niece reared in the home, Diana Goode of New York.
The family is at the home of a sister Sarah Blocker, 1421 Martin Town Road.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood.

Wayne Ivey
Wayne Ivey, 53, of 535 S. Mill Road, husband of Sharon Ann Davis Ivey, died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at his home.
Born in Laurinburg, N.C., he was a son of the late James Elbert and Geneva Arnette Ivey. He had lived in Abbeville County since 1993 and was formerly employed by Sara Lee, Solutia and Tyco. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Greenwood.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jessica) Stack of Concord, N.C.; four brothers, Charles Thomas Ivey of Springfield, Calif., Kenneth Michael Ivey of Aviano, Italy, James Malloy Ivey and Richard Eugene Ivey, both of Laurinburg; three sisters, Nancy Carolyn Guiliano of East Hanover, N.J., Elizabeth Ann Weaver of Bennettsville and Sandra Kaye Mousa of Lakewood, Calif.
A memorial service is 6 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, conducted by Bishop Doug Pennock.
Visitation is after the memorial service.
Services and burial will be announced by McDougald Funeral Home, Laurinburg.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge of local arrangements.

Samuel Ham Mack
Samuel Ham Mack died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Fitz Henry, Pa., he was a son of the late Samuel and Ella Mack. He was a retiree of consolidated Edison Electric Cooperation of New York. He was a Jehovah Witness. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Sanders Mack of the home. The family is at 9 Audubon Road, Ware Shoals. Memorial services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home.

Fannie ‘Willie’ Parsons
Fannie “Willie” Belcher Parsons, 78, of 107 Independence Way, widow of Jethero Parsons, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at her home. Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Ethel Lomax Belcher. She was a dietician, working in the schools in High Point, N.C. A graduate of Brewer High School, she attended Benedict College and was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church, Greensboro, N.C. Survivors include a brother with whom she lived, Herman C. “Cool” Belcher.
The family is at the home of her brother.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Mary L. Wideman
ABBEVILLE — Services for Mary Louise Wideman, of 104 Oakland Ave., Apt. 1602, are 2 p.m. today at Rockford A.M.E. Church, Highway 81, Mount Carmel, conducted by the Rev. Roland E.D. Sigman. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery. The family is at the home.
Abbeville & White Mortuary is in charge.

Martha Jane Hill
WARE SHOALS — Martha Jane Hill, 77, of 431 East 20th Street New York, NY was born in Ware Shoals Nov. 26, 1924 and was the daughter of the late William Harvey and Bernice Davenport Hill. She was a 1944 graduate of Queens College and retired after 30 + years as an executive with New York Life Ins. Co. She was a member of Epithany Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan.
Surviving is a sister, Patricia Hill McKevitt-Ryman of Riverside, CA. Two nieces, Jane Ann McKevitt, Dublin, Ireland and Kathleen Elizabeth McKevitt, Riverside, CA. Graveside services are 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 22 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mel Ryman officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church social hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church Cemetery Fund at Box 124, Poplar Springs Road, Ware Shoals, SC 29692.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. James Calvin McClain
Atlanta – Services for Mr. James Calvin McClain, 70, of 1224 Sanden Ferry Drive, Decatur, Ga. will be held at 3 pm Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2-3 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Care of Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
Mr. McClain was born in Wagener, SC on September 1, 1933, a son of the late Romie and James Press McCarty. He died on June 18, 2004 of metastatic brain cancer. He was raised in Ninety Six, later lived in Greenwood before moving to Atlanta in 1985. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by three children, son: Mitchell and his wife Anna of Greenwood; daughters: Linda and husband J. “Gregg” Barnes of Atlanta and Gina McClain also of Atlanta; two granddaughters, Tara Partridge and Stephanie Lawson; one grandson, Corey Barnes; one great grandson Steven Lawson and one great granddaughter, Jordyn Whittle; a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth and Howard Starnes of Greenwood and his loving wife, Daisy P. McClain of Decatur, Ga.
Calvin was a quiet, kind, and loving husband and father. We will miss him greatly but it is a comfort to know that “ to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”.

Brielle Martelle Morris
Brielle Martelle Morris, 21, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004.
Born in Morgantown, W. Va., she was a daughter of Martelle Taylor Morris and the late Allen Terrence Morris. She was employed by the UPS Store and was a student at Piedmont Technical College.
Survivors include her mother, Martelle Taylor Morris, Greenwood; a brother, Ian M. Morris, North Augusta, S.C.; two sisters, Matea Morris, Burlington, Vt. and Becca Morris, Greenwood; and paternal grandmother, Edna Morris, St. Albans, W. Va.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Greenwood Humane Society.

Thelma White
Services for Thelma White, of 816 Brewer Ave., are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Springfield Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Nathaniel Langford, assisted by Revs. Andy Young and John Brightharp. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces.
The family is at the home.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Baylor
NINETY SIX — Mary Baylor, 84, of 904 McKenzie Road, widow of Amos Baylor, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis Whitt and Georgena Wigfall Whitt. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Mount Pisgah No. 418 Order of Eastern Star, Women’s Aide Home Society and Missionary Society of the church.
Survivors include six sons, Edward Baylor, Daniel Baylor, John Willie Baylor of Greenwood, Earl Baylor, Cleveland Baylor, Cleo Baylor of Ninety Six; five daughters, Mary Alice Martin, Patricia Baylor of Washington , Nina Washington of Columbia, Martha Wells of Ninety Six and Hazel White of Greenwood; a sister, Mattie Armstad of Philadelphia; 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Janie Butler
WARE SHOALS —Janie Butler, 95, of 18 W. Fleming St., died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at a hospital in Chicago. Her body will be returned to Ware Shoals for burial.
Services will be announced by Robinson-Walker Funeral Service.

Fannie ‘Willie’ Parsons
Services for Fannie “Willie” Belcher Parsons are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., conducted by the Rev. Curtis Carter.
Burial is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carolina Biblical Gardens of Guilford, Inc. in Jamestown, N.C.
The family is at the home of her brother, 107 Independence Way.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Kirsten Grant Allison
WARE SHOALS — Kirsten Grant Allison, 39, of 6 Balentine Drive, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at her home.
Born in Charlottesville, Va., she was a daughter of William M. Grant and the late Jeannie Faye Grant.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Judith Grant of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Chuck (Susanna G.) Ware of Ware Shoals; maternal grandmother, Audrey Shaw Grant; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Grant of Greenwood.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Wicker.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greenwood.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Baylor
NINETY SIX — Mary Baylor, 84, of 904 McKenzie Road, widow of Amos Baylor, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.

The family is at the home.

Twana Michelle Baylor
Twana Michelle Baylor, 37, of 203 Beechwood Circle, died Monday, June 21, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Elizabeth Fisher Baylor and the late Sammy Baylor. She was a 1985 graduate of Greenwood High School and received an associate degree in social services from Piedmont Tech and a bachelor’s degree in social services from Limestone College. She was a member of Youngs Chapel Baptist Church, the Inspirational Choir and former president of the YWA.
Survivors include her mother of Greenwood; two brothers, Alan V. Fisher of Tampa, Fla., and Sammy E. Baylor of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Gene Otis (Jacquelyn F.) Daniels of Greenwood; a friend of the home, Willie Jackson.
The family is at her mother’s home, 361 Joe Louis Blvd.
The presiding minister will be the Rev. Thessa G. Smith. The Rev. Anthony Boozer will deliver the eulogy.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Aletha Blackwell
GREENWOOD – Aletha Burr Blackwell, 88, resident of 411 Dogwood Drive, widow of E. C. Blackwell, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at her home.
Born November 6, 1915 in Chesterfield, SC, she was a daughter of the late N. D. and Beatrice Parker Burr. She was retired from Connie Maxwell Children’s Home and was a member of Connie Maxwell Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Sally “Millie” Southerland of Summerville; a son, Clarence Blackwell and his wife Barbara of Greenwood; a granddaughter, Amy Southerland of Charleston; two grandsons, David Southerland of Summerville and Robert Blackwell, M.D. of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Mrs. L. T. “Juanita” Blanchard of Cadott, WI; and a brother, Heyward Burr of North Augusta.
Services will be Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Connie Maxwell Baptist Church with Dr. Ben Davis and Dr. J. C. Collins officiating.
Entombment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Honorary escort will be past and present deacons of Connie Maxwell Baptist Church along with current and retired staff of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.
