Rev. P. B. Pullin
ABBEVILLE, SC – Rev. Pendleton Bird “P. B.” Pullin, 78, resident of 312 Hwy. 201, husband of Helen May Wantz Pullin, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at his home.
Born in Mt.Solon, VA he was a son of the late Charles McKeen and Fannie Waid Pullin.
He was a United States Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Alabama Bible Methodist Conference, he pastored for over 50 years. He was affiliated with the Southern Methodist, Wesleyan Methodist and Bible Methodist churches. He pastored and was a church planter while serving churches in Jupiter, FL, Sumter, Charleston, Iva and Abbeville, SC. The last church he established was the Cold Spring Chapel, Abbeville, SC, where he pastored for over 20 years.
Survivors are: wife, Helen Wantz Pullin of the home; two sons, John B. Pullin, Abbeville, SC; George P. Pullin and his wife Wanda, Abbeville, SC; one daughter, Rebecca P. Barnes and her husband Tim, Kannapolis, NC; two granddaughters, Rebecca Ann and Meri Elizabeth Pullin, Abbeville, SC; three sisters, Judith P. Young, Abbeville, SC; Louisa P. Garrett, Richmond, VA; Alice P. Stinson, Cotton Town, TN; and one brother, John E. Pullin, Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dudley Pullin and Beverly Pullin.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 11:00 AM from The Chapel of the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville, SC. The Revs. Walter Headstrom, Merle Beiler and Tom Smith officiating.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening June 25, 2004. The family is at the home, 312 Hwy. 201, Abbeville, SC.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont in lieu of flowers at 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Cold Spring Chapel, 42 Cochran Rd., Abbeville, SC 29620.

Earline Scott
Earline Walton Scott, 81, of 1159 Spring Street, widow of W. Earl Scott, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Cleveland Franklin and Martha Elizabeth Lowry Walton. She retired from Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant and was a member of Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club. She was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Elaine Benner of Sumter and Phyllis Earl Patrick of Greenwood; a sister, Alpha W. Matthews of Greenwood; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. David Patterson. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Richard Davis, Carroll Culbertson, Preston Culbertson, Donald Christian, Richard Christian and Andy Anderson.
Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Michael K. Alverson
McCORMICK — Michael Kent Alverson, 13, of Highway 378, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of Roger Alverson and Tammy Alverson Moxley. He was a student at McCormick Middle School, where he was a member of the school band and manager of the basketball team.
Survivors include his father of McCormick; his mother of Burke County, Ga.; a brother, Jason Alverson of McCormick; a stepbrother, Gregory Moxley of Burke County; paternal grandparents, Olin “Buddy” and Barbara Ann Alverson of McCormick; maternal grandparents, Madge Sharp of Burke County and William Barry McLain of Mobile, Ala.
Graveside services are 4 p.m. Saturday in Overbrook Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Wade Everett.
Pallbearers are Colby Clegg, Chris Harrison, Jabe Clegg, Austin Crowder, Tyler Willis, Richard Lewis, Cory Wall and Levi Davis.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

R. A. Bain
GREENWOOD – Robert Alvin “R. A.” Bain, 97, resident of 1408 Parkway, Sterling House, widower of Verna Smith Bain, died June 24, 2004 at his home.
Born in Lumberton, NC September 9, 1906, he was the son of the late Robert Rankin and Elizabeth Odom Bain. He was retired from Greenwood Mills as Plant Manager of Adams Plant and was former owner/operator of Bain’s Key Shop. A member of Mathews United Methodist Church and Mathews Masonic Lodge #358 AFM.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Michael Odis Bain of Christansburg, VA; a grand-daughter, Pamela Bain Rumans of Liberty, MO; two great-grandchildren, Adam and Alex Collins of Liberty, MO.
Mr. Bain was predeceased by a son Odis Leroy Bain.
Services will be conducted at 11am Saturday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve King officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Dan Hazel, Harold Lovett, Ray Riddle, Calvin Parkman, Mike Schultz, and Troy Shealy.
Honorary escort will be Earl Proctor, Ed Carson, James Griffin, Ralph Reed, Robert Abercrombie, Allen Irwin, Harry Davis, George Powell and Branch Hall.
The family is at the home of a daughter-in-law, Dolly Bain, 706 West Alexander and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Friday evening.
Memorials may be made to Mathews United Methodist Church, PO Box 2066, Greenwood, SC 29646-0066.
BLYTH FUNERAL HOME IN CHARGE

Gail Beauford
ABBEVILLE, SC – Patricia “Gail” Beauford, 56, resident of 334 Old Calhoun Falls Rd. wife of Rev. Tony Beauford died Thursday June 24, 2004 at her home.
Born in Abbeville Co. SC she was a daughter of the late James Daniel and Doris Pruitt Bannister, Jr.
She was a retired employee of Abbeville Co. Memorial Hospital and was also a member of Mission Baptist Church.
Surviving to cherish her memory: husband, Harold Thomas “Tony” Beauford, Jr. of the home; daughter, Shelley Chrisley & her husband Dickie, Abbeville, SC; son H.T. (Will) Beauford IV and his wife Gina, Abbeville, SC; sisters Sherry Hendrix, Simpsonville, SC; Merry Kimmons, Due West, SC; grandchildren, Kelcee and Autumn Chrisley and Molly and Thomas Beauford.
She was preceded in death by a son Harold Thomas (Bubba) Beauford III.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday, June 25, 2004 at 5:00 PM from Long Cane Academy Cemetery with The Revs. Tony Beauford and James Newman officiating.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:30 PM Friday afternoon prior to services.

Janie Butler
WARE SHOALS — Janie Lauderdale Butler, 95, of 18 W. Fleming St., widow of Dozier Butler, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Community Health Center Hospital in Munster, Ind.
Born in Donalds, she was a daughter of the late Ben Cunningham and Mamie Lauderdale. She was a member of Little River Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary and was a mother of the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Tamara Neal of Lynwood, Ill.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Little River Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Sylvester Jackson, Doris Valentine, Marydell Gordon, Oddie Mae Pruitt and Minister Rodney Butler.
The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood.
Visitation is 6-7 tonight at Robinson-Walker Funeral Service.
The family is at the home.

Mary G. McCord
Mary Gaines McCord, 80, of Sheffield Road, wife of Harold McCord, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at her home.
The family is at the home in Sheffield.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

Jimmie Thomas Ruff Sr.
NINETY SIX — Jimmie Thomas Ruff Sr., 61, husband of Annie Bell Williams Ruff, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at University Hospital of Augusta, Ga.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Willie Earl and Bessie Bell Williams Ruff. He was a member of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, teacher of the Young People Sunday School Class and a former Vacation Bible School instructor. He was formerly a truck driver with Southern Brickyard.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jimmie Thomas Ruff Jr. and Travis O’neal Ruff, both of the home; two daughters, Shuiquetta Lutrensi Ruff of Greenwood and Safia Stokes of Irmo; a sister, Nancy Jean Hart of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren.
The family is at the home of a daughter Shuiquetta L. Ruff, 107 Brissie Ave., Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Samuel Ham Mack
Memorial services for Samuel Mack are 11 a.m. Monday at Parks Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. I. N. Madden, assisted by the Rev. James Davis.
The family is at the home, 9 Audubond Road, Ware Shoals.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary McCord
Mary Gaines McCord, age 80, resident of 133 Sheffield Road, wife of Harold Adolphus McCord, died June 24, 2004 at her home.
Born October 16, 1923 in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Robert Edwin and Winifred Fitts Gaines.
Mrs. McCord was educated in the Greenwood Public Schools; attended Lander, and was a graduate of The University of South Carolina with degrees in Math and English. She received her Masters Degree in Library Science from Emory University. She was Director of The Abbeville-Greenwood Regional Library for fifteen years. During this time she was very instrumental in doubling the size of the Greenwood Library, building the Ninety Six Library, and making improvements to the libraries in Calhoun Falls, Due West, and Ware Shoals.
She was a member of Isaqueena Study Club, The Ivy Garden Club, The First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School Classes and served on various committees.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are one son, Robert Gaines McCord of Clinton, a daughter, Mary Grace McCord Anderson of Greenwood, a granddaughter, Casey Elise McCord of Greenwood; two sisters, Alice Gaines Sloan of Inman, Winifred Gaines Gray of Greenwood, and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted 4 PM Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at The First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood with Dr. John Livingston officiating.
The family is at the home in Sheffield and will receive friends in Alexander Hall at the church, immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646, Calvary Chapel Greenwood, 2024 Woodlawn Road, Greenwood, SC 29649, First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood, 108 East Cambridge Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646, or to a charity of choice.

Richard Melton
BRADLEY, SC — Richard Pearson Melton, 80, of 706 Rushville Road, husband of Marjorie Becco Melton, died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Chester County, a son of the late John Jacob and Cora Dodge Melton. He was a retired Supervisor with the Durst and Mathews Plants of Greenwood Mills. He was also head of security for Mrs. Josephine Abney. He was a U.S. Navy W.W. II Veteran and a member of Mathews United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Bryan “Theresa” M. Summey of Bradley and Freida M. Scott of Greenwood; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Delores Melton, both of Greenwood; brother and sister-in-law, Edward L. and Helen Melton, both of Chester; sister-in-law, Annie Lee Duncan Melton of Chester; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Gossett, Richie Summey, David Scott, William Scott, Michael Melton, Melissa Payne, and Jonathan Luquire; eleven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be William Worthington, David Scott, William Scott, Michael Melton, Richey Summey, Jonathan Luquire, John Tom Bannister, and Roger Dillashaw.
Honorary escorts will be Otis Duncan, David Worthington, Larry Brown, Doyle Cooke and George Deale.
The body is at Harley Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 until 5:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Rice Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 1975 Highway 72 W., Greenwood, SC, 29649.
