SALUDA — Services for Cedric Fidel “Weed” Long, of 137 LaSalle St., are 2 p.m. Thursday at the Saluda High School gymnasium, conducted by Bishop Raymond Berger, assisted by the Rev. Johnny C. Gantt, Minister Angela Posey-Graham and Elder Lee Homer Ouzts. Burial is in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are family and friends.
The family is at the home.

Runette A. Mathis
GREENWOOD — Runette Anderson Mathis, 79, of 10A Abbeville Street, Due West, and formerly of 113 Woodcrest Drive, Greenwood, widow of Marvin A. Mathis, Sr., died Tuesday, July 6, 2004.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Palmer Clayton Anderson, Sr. and Margie Spruell Anderson. She was the retired owner and secretary-treasurer of Marvin Mathis Company, Inc. and was a member of the Hodges #272, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Hodges United Methodist Church.
Surviving is a son, Marvin A. Mathis, Jr. of Hodges; a daughter, Margie Hall of Hodges; three sisters, Sara Cobb of Greenwood, Carolyn Davis of Hodges and Juanita Baldwin of Anderson; two brothers, Palmer Clayton Anderson, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and John R. Anderson of Hodges; two grandchildren, Andrew Neal Hall and Marvin Mathis, III, both of Hodges.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hodges United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nena Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Mathis, Wayne Mathis, C. J. Davis, Jimmy Cobb, Carroll Davis and Lewie Rodgers.
Honorary escort will be members of the Hodges #272, Order of the Eastern Star.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

George Nelson Jr.
George Dewey Nelson Jr., 80, of 106 Blyth Ave., husband of Helen Nelson, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Wesley Commons.
Born in Cross Hill, he was a son of the late George Dewey Sr. and Anna Belle Gregory Nelson. He was a graduate of Cross Hill High School, the Greenwood College of Commerce and Jacksonville Barber School. A Navy World War II veteran, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Korea and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was the owner and operator of George’s Barber Shop for more than 50 years. He attended New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member of American Legion Post No. 20, V.F.W. Post No. 8131, D.A.V., Post No. 42, T.P.A. and the Moose Lodge No. 834. He was twice married, first to the late Lois Moore Nelson.
Survivors include his wife of Greenwood; three daughters, Judy Nelson of the home, Jane Nelson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Pam Nelson of Simpsonville; two sons, George Gregory Nelson of Pompano Beach, Fla., and George Dewey Nelson III of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Billy (Gloria) Kelley of Hodges; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Jeff Kelley, Robert Lee Whiteford and Tim Ellenburg. Burial is in Liberty Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cross Hill.
Pallbearers are John Bailes, Tony Johnson, Larry Smalley, Robin Cary, Charles Foster and Rick Kelley.
Honorary escorts are members of D.A.V No. 42, V.F.W. No. 8131, Moose Lodge No. 834, along with Jimmy Sweezy, Brad Rushton, Richard Able, James E. Dorn, Bobby Douglas, Fred Hudgens, Marion Johnson, Dr. Jack Scurry, Cliff Langley, Jim Bernini, Paul Blalock, Homer Randall, Bubba Summers, Keith Walls and John Gulledge.

Elliott ‘Pistol’ Adams
EDGEFIELD — Elliott “Pistol” Adams, 83, of 682 Highway 378 E., husband of Carrie Lee Coats Adams, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at his home.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Elliott and Totsie Richardson Adams. He was a member of Willow Spring Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He was a retired employee of Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Beverly) Dean of McCormick, Glenda Smith, Mrs. Richard (Demetrie) Fuller and Lucille Phillips, all of Edgefield; a brother, Arvis Adams of Philadelphia; three sisters, Georgiann Diggs of Los Angeles, Gladys Mackie of North Augusta and Sadie Moyd of Jersey City, N.J.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Willow Spring Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. E.L. Cain, assisted by the Rev. Geraldine Mathis. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers are church trustees and friends.
Flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home.

Bernice Brown
GREENWOOD – Bernice Still McDowell Brown, 80, of 113 Stoker Road, widow of Wilbur Kenneth Brown, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Edgefield, she was a daughter of the late Willie C. and Lizzie Dorn Still. She was retired from National Home Health Care and was a member of Pine Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Adult Sunday School Class.
She was twice married, first to the late James Allen McDowell and was preceded in death by a son, Harold McDowell.
Surviving are three sons, Roger McDowell of Ninety Six, Billy McDowell of Greenwood and Clyde McDowell of Hartwell, GA; two stepsons, Kenneth Marshall Brown of Monroe, NC and Gary Lee Brown of Harrington, DE; three sisters, Frances Edwards, Ruth Butler and Pat Padgett, all of Greenwood; three brothers, Clyde Still of North Augusta, Jimmy Still of Greenwood and the Rev. Bob Still of North Augusta; fifteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Butler and the Rev. Bob Still officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mark McDowell, Max McDowell, Reed McDowell, Roger McDowell Jr., Marty O’Brien, Scott Dickerson and David Duncan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Michael Leverette
HAMPTON, Va. — Michael Leverette, 49, former husband of Joy Leverette, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at his home.
Born in McCormick, S.C., he was a son of Robert T. Leverette Sr. and the late Julia Mae Brown Leverette. He was a member of First Baptist Church Denbigh in Hampton and a former member of Shiloh A.M.E. Church, McCormick. He graduated from McCormick High School in 1972 and retired from the Army with 22 years of service.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Louise Leverette, of McCormick; three daughters, Veranda L. Bell of Atlanta, Michelle Leverette and Sarah-Anne Leverette, both of the home; a grandmother, Florence Leverette of McCormick; four sisters, Sandra Leverette Norman of Greenwood, S.C., Karen Leverette-Harper of Simpsonville, S.C., Angelus Leverette of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Virian J. Leverette of Blacklick, Ohio; four brothers, Robert T. Leverette Jr. of Atlanta, Larry Leverette and Anthony Leverette of McCormick and Morris K. Leverette of Sumter; two grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

Adger Butler Jr.
GROSSE POINTE, Mich. — Adger Butler Jr., husband of Beverly Bare Butler, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe.
Born in Greenwood County, S.C., he was a son of Mary Butler and the late Adger Butler Sr. He attended George Washington Carver Elementary School and graduated from Adelphian Academy in Holly, Mich. He attended Oakwood College and Andrews University, receiving a master’s degree in social work from Wayne State University in 1975 and a doctorate of philosophy in research and evaluation in 1982. Employed by the Detroit Health Department as an administrator, he was also an instructor at Wayne County Community College and an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Southfield; two sons, Eric Butler of Triangle, Va., and Keith Butler of Gilbert, Ariz.; two daughters, Karen Roberts of Clinton, Md., and Pamela Chennault of Gilbert; a sister, Elizabeth Skinner of Southfield; a brother, Chuck Bonney of Ypsilanti; 10 grandchildren.

Earnest Culbreath Jr.
COLUMBIA — Earnest “Pop Eye” Culbreath Jr., 70, widower of Addie Mae Taylor Culbreath, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Earnest and Ruth Culbreath. He was a member of Branch Hill United Methodist Church and a retired truck driver for Wilson Brothers Trucking.
Survivors include seven sons, Hayward Culbreath and Calvin Culbreath, both of Norristown, Pa., Jerome Culbreath of Batesburg, Anthony Culbreath of Columbia, Rudolph T. Culbreath of Aiken, Maurice Culbreath of Trenton and Tyrone Taylor of Washington , D.C.; a daughter, Deborah Culbreath of Columbia; four brothers, Charlie Culbreath, James Culbreath and Tyrone Culbreath, all of Norristown, Sammie Culbreath of Greenwood; five sisters, Beatrice Williams of Silverstreet, Irene McCree, Betty Harris and Carolyn Cook, all of Greenwood and Shirley Bonds of Phoenixville, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Branch United Methodist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons and friends of the family.
Flower bearers are nieces.
The family is at the home of a son, Jerome Culbreath, 418 Saluda Ave., Batesburg.

Edgar F. Patterson
PICKENS — Edgar “Pat, Pierre” Franklin Patterson, 82, of 125 Ashtabula Road, formerly of Greenwood and Easley, died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of the late Horace Buford and Onnie Parker Patterson. He received a bachelor of science degree from Davidson College in 1944. A retired chemist, he formerly worked at National Carbon Co., Dan River Mills, Mooresville Mills, Clinton Corn Processing Co., Seydel Wooley & Co., and Greenwood Mills.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Payne Patterson of the home; two sons, Michael Yates Patterson of Warrenton, Ore., and John Andrews Patterson of West Lafayette, Ind.; a brother, Charles Walter Patterson of Charlotte; two sisters, Martha Patterson Burke of Jacksonville, Fla., and Helen Patterson Johnston of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren; a great-grandson.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Sunday at The Schell Haus, off Highway 11 near Table Rock State Park.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

James B. Perrin Sr.
NINETY SIX — James Benjamin Perrin Sr., 63, of 609 Magnolia Drive, husband of Christine Drennon Perrin, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Elizah Perrin and Viola Williams Perrin-Peterson. He was of the Methodist faith and was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, James Benjamin Perrin Jr. of Greenville and Stanley Perrin of Pelzer; a daughter, Felicia Henderson of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, Greenwood.

William Walter Rast
William Walter Rast, 77, of Eden Gardens, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Newport, Ark., he was an Army veteran and a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy and Southern Technical Institute.
Survivors include two daughters, Julie Hobbs of Greenwood and Carole Gatlin of Watkinsville, Ga.; four granddaughters; a sister, Jacqueline Davis of Mobile, Ala.
At his request, his body is being donated to the University of South Carolina Medical School.
A memorial service will be in Alabama at a later date.

Ollie Mae Adams
Ollie Mae Adams, 70, formerly of 110 Moss Creek Drive, died Friday, July 9, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Edgefield, she was a daughter of the late Cleophus Bay Chinn and Lula Mae Gilliam Washington . She was a retiree of Greenwood Mills Plant No. 5 and a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield, where she was a former choir member.
Survivors include a son, Melvin Bernard Fisher of Greenwood; six brothers, Clifford Chinn Sr. and Woodrow Fisher, both of Greenwood, Willie Chinn Sr., Alonzo Chinn Sr. and Albert Chinn, all of Edgefield and Luke Fisher Jr. of Washington , D.C.; five sisters, Leola Jones of Greenwood, Annie Marie Coats of Saluda, Ollie Watson of Washington , D.C., Ethel Bailey of Largo, Md., and Christine Fortune of Greenwood; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of her son, 108 Hill Top Ave. and the home of a granddaughter, Shonte Nance, 110 Moss Creek Drive.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.
