Mary Frances Carroll
NINETY SIX — Mary Frances Brooks Carroll, 57, of 122 Ebony Drive, widow of Robert E. Carroll, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Jessie Brooks Dunlap and the late Ervin Frank Goode Sr. She was a 1966 graduate of Edgewood High School, Ninety Six, a retired employee of Self Regional Medical Center and a member of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church of Ninety Six. She attended Little Zion A.M.E. Church of Greenwood.
Survivors include her mother of Greenwood; three sons, Evans Carroll of Clinton, Neal Carroll of Ninety Six and Derrick Carroll of the home; two daughters, Kindra Carroll of the home and Kimberly Carroll of Greenwood; a brother, Ervin Frank Goode Jr. of Ninety Six; and two grandchildren.
The family is at the home and the home of her mother, 103 Maple Court, McKellar Farms.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Sarah Rosas
Sarah Ortega Rosas, 84, of 127 Carlton St., widow of Frank A. Rosas, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Los Angeles, she was a daughter of the late Les and Concha Mariscal Ortega. She was formerly of South Gate, Calif. and has made her home in Greenwood since 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. DuRant (Olivia) Reames, with whom she made her home, Ailene MaCiel of Los Angeles; and 17 grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by Father Richard Harris.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 110 E. Laurel Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29649.

Esther G. Sullivan
HILTON HEAD ISLAND — Esther G. Sullivan, 81, died Thursday, July 15, 2004.
Born in Portland, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Margaret Potenzo Germain and Guy Germain. She was a member of Hilton Head Plantation Avid Gardeners, Hilton Head Plantation Women’s Club and S.H.A.R.E. She was a volunteer at the Hilton Head Hospital Auxiliary gift shop.
Survivors include her husband, Robert B. Sullivan; two daughters, Kelly Sullivan McGinn of Greenwood, S.C. and Judith A. Kryzynski of Windham, N.H.; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, Attn: Grants & Contributions, 1236 Ginger Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va. 23456.
The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge.

James Ray (Jamie) Summers
MOUNTVILLE, SC — James Ray (Jamie) Summers, age 19, of 2818 Hwy 39, died Friday, July 16th in Mountville. He was born in Greenwood and was employed by Thrift Brothers Construction Co. in Columbia.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Wanda and Benny Thompson of the home and his father and step-mother, Allen and Julia D. Summers of Greenville; two brothers, Walter Allen Summers, Jr. of Hickory Tavern and Brandon Keith Holden of Mountville; three sisters, Elizabeth Katie Summers and Julia Kristen Summers, both of Greenville and Brittany Eileen Holden of Mountville; grandparents, Angie Lee Summers of Clinton, Mildred Craine of Mountville, Johnny and Valerie Malpass of Mountville and Katie and Tommy Giltrap of Conestee; a sister-in-law, Heather Summers of Hickory Tavern, a nephew, Walter Allen Summers III; a fiancé, Ashley Mundy of Mountville.
He was predeceased by grandfathers, Frank James Summers and Bill Ray Craine.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Forest Lawn East.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Steve W. Vereen
SUMTER, SC — Steve W. Vereen, age 36, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Richland Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of Samuel and Mary Vereen of Greenwood, SC.
He was a U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant with 15 years of service. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal on four occasions for Meritorious Service. He served as the Deputy Chief Logistics, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron, Shaw AFB. He also proudly served in Desert Storm and the Kosovo Conflict. TSgt Vereen also was an active member of the Summerville Masonic Lodge, #234.
Surviving are his son, Derek T. Vereen of Newberry, SC; two brothers, Joe Vereen and Benjamin Vereen, both of Greenwood, SC; fiancé, Tammy M. Reum of Columbia, SC; and his son’s mother and close friend, Lee Ann Egleston of Newberry, SC.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Palmetto Chapel on Shaw Air Force Base.
Memorials may be sent to YMCA Swim Team, Attn: Dena Goeckner, PO Box 662, Newberry, SC 29108.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Miller Family Graveyard, 264 Patchwork Rd., Batesburg, SC.

Jim ‘Jake’ Holloway
Jim Holloway, 62, of 1027 Phoenix St., husband of Sadie Williams Holloway, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of Susie Anna Scott Holloway and the late A.P. Holloway. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield and formerly employed with Kendall.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Greenwood; three sons, Gene Ray Holloway of Atlanta, Rodney Holloway and Marcus Demond Holloway of Greenwood; three daughters, Mrs. Dexter (Teresa) Syrkett, Linda Faye Holloway, of Greenwood and Valerie Williams of Greenville; six brothers, Willie T. Holloway, George Holloway and Solomon Holloway of Greenwood, Charlie Holloway of Callison, Lawrence Holloway of Bronx, N.Y. and Calvin Holloway of Columbia; half brother, Arthur Cheatham of Edgefield; three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Mattie) Gaskin, Mrs. Johnny (Laura) Stevenson and Louvenia Holloway, of Greenwood; two half sisters, Ida L. Simmons of Bronx, N.Y. and Mary E. Davis of Washington ; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Miles A. Page
WATERLOO — Miles A. Page, 93, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 in Atlanta.
Born in Union County, he was a son of the late Wade and Bessie Parks Page. He retired from Eastern Airlines in Miami and Atlanta and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a son, Terry E. Page of Stockbridge, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Gray Funeral Home.
Gray Funeral Home of Laurens is in charge.

Hazel Timmerman
Hazel Estelle Coleman Timmerman, 63, of 208 Augusta Circle, wife of Donald Timmerman, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at her home.
Born in Edgefield, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Clara Ruby Calliham Coleman. She was a seamstress and was formerly employed by Mirta’s and Greenwood Mills, Chalmers Plant.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Otis Coleman.
Surviving is her husband of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Keith & Susan Timmerman of Abbeville, Todd & Shawn Timmerman and Mark & Robin Timmerman, all of Greenwood; a sister, Shelby Walker of Saluda; a brother, Herbert Coleman of Saluda and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Kinion officiating.
Pallbearers will be Reed Timmerman, Chase Timmerman, Wade Timmerman, Tyler Walker, Mike Coleman, Frankie Timmerman, Al Timmerman and Ellis Timmerman.
Honorary escort will be Steve Pridmore, Jamie Pridmore, Kevin Coleman and Shane Coleman.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

NINETY SIX — Services for Mary Frances Brooks Carroll, of 122 Ebony Drive, are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Little Zion A.M.E. Church, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. G.H. Oliver, assisted by the Revs. Joseph Caldwell and Hattie Henderson. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in Ninety Six Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Odell Hill Jr., Larnie Carroll, Tyrus Robinson, Walter Palmore, Carlos Terry and Rico Carroll.
Flower bearers are Patricia Anderson, Priscilla Williams, Letitia Hodges, Geraldine Harrison, Chieoma Shabazz, Hattie Ann Robinson.
Honorary escorts are members of Edgewood High School Class of 1966.
Visitation is this evening at the home and the home of her mother, Jessie Brooks Dunlap, 103 Maple Court, McKellar Farms, Greenwood.

Walter Carver
WATERLOO, SC – William Walter Carver, 85, of 58 Falling Leaf Drive, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA. Born March 14, 1919, in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Wilbur Donald and Betty Cooper Carver and the husband of the late Fannie Stancil Carver. He was retired from General Motors and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, James Walter Carver of Cherry Hill, NJ; four daughters, Jacquelyn Gale Saunders of Nashville, TN; Angelus Deloris Carver of Yale, OK; Linda Sue Turner of Greenwood, SC; and Christine Carver of Waterloo, SC; three sisters, Elizabeth Brown and Rebecca Nelson, both of Spartanburg, and Martha Millwood of Moore, SC; a brother, Earl Carver of Spartanburg; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 7-9:00 p.m. Tuesday,July 20, 2004, at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel conducted by the Rev. Joe Dempsey. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Rick Mantz, Richard Willard, Paul Turner, Wade Turner, Charles Licari, and Harold Fortescue.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Christine Carver, 58 Falling Leaf Drive, Waterloo, SC.

‘Mike’ G. Collins
McQUEENEY, Texas — Michael “Mike” Grady Collins, 60, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va.
Born in Augusta, Ga., he was a son of the late Grady and Margaret Collins of Aiken, S.C. He was an electrician, employed by Duke/Fluor Daniel of Texas and a former employee of Duke Power, Greenwood, S.C.
Survivors include three daughters, Tara Collins Carroll of Greenwood, Courtney Ramirez and Whitney Scarlott of Wichita Falls, Texas ; a sister, Pat Oranda of Aiken; and a grandchild.
No formal services are planned.
Family members are at their respective homes.

Evelyn Stone Edmunds
McCORMICK — Evelyn Stone Edmunds, 82, of The Oaks, Apt. D-3, widow of Charles L. Edmunds, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 in Greenwood.
Born in Plum Branch, she was a daughter of the late Julius Cleveland Stone and Mary Lou Jaro Stone. She lived in Parksville most of her life and in Edgefield for 20 years. She was a textile worker and a member of First Baptist Church of Edgefield.
Survivors include a son, Charles L. Edmunds Jr. of Langley; a daughter, Mary E. Osborne of Greenwood; five grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday in McCormick City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Wade Everett. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her daughter, 114 Windemere Drive, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Skeet Kay
GREENWOOD – Kenneth M. “Skeet” Kay, 66, of 527 Bolt Avenue, husband of Carolyn Ezell Kay, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Ralph G. and Nancy Mahon Kay. He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School and Erskine College, where he attended on a baseball scholarship. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, where he was a member of Quarter Century Club. He was employed by Harley Funeral Home and served as a ranger for Stoney Point Golf Club. He served in the SC National Guard.
Skeet was an outstanding athlete, participating in football, baseball, basketball, swimming and golf. He served as coach of the Calhoun Falls Blue Flashes, 1964-66.
He was a member of Grace Community Church.
Surviving is his wife of the home; a son, David Kay of Greenwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Deri Kay Redd and Mike Redd, of Greenwood; a sister, Barbara Hall of Johnston and three grandchildren, Amber Kay, Candace Miller and Bryson Lawton.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Community Church with the Rev. Rod Schultz, the Rev. John Walsh, Pastor Tony Foster and the Rev. Don Tumblin officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be J. B. Calliham, Bruce Amick, Morris Ridge, John Wayne Price, Marvin Tanner, Frank Wideman, Jeff Redd and John Rhodes.
Honorary escort will be the Rangers of Stoney Point Golf Club.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
The family is at the home.
