NINETY SIX – Lillie Faulkner Summers, 80, resident of 104 Lowell Street, wife of William A. “Bubber” Summers died July 19, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born March 24, 1924 in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Elizabeth “Liz” Whiteford Faulkner. She was retired from Greenwood Mills Sloan Plant.
She was a member of The Eastern Star, Temple Baptist Church and the Faithful Worker’s Sunday School Class of the church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home, are a daughter and son-in-law, Alva S. and Colin B. Gunnells of Ninety Six; grandchildren, Casey G. Velky and her husband Paul J. Velky of Waynesville, NC, and Blane Gunnells of Ninety Six; two sisters, Lucille F. Smith of Ninety Six and Betty F. Strickland of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. G. Thomas Cartledge officiating.
Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Langley, Dayne Smith, Donnie Faulkner, Dale Fitz, Gene Latham, Irby Shealy, Ronnie Shealy and Doug Alexander.
Honorary escort will be the Faithful Worker’s Sunday School Class along with Nevitt and Doris Butler, Hiram and Grace Mitchell, Richard and Clara Able, Joyce Smith, Jones and Mary Alice Buchannan, Ellis and Inez Gunnells, Joe and Eunice Aiton, Michael and Rhonda Bryant, James and Frances Henderson, Walt and Helen Pruitt, Ralph and Gene Still, Dr. O.M. Cobb and Dr. Ennis James.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening.

Earl Thomas “Tommy” White, Jr.
ABBEVILLE – Earl Thomas “Tommy” White, Jr., 64, of Woodview Apartments died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Abbeville to Jennie Gambrel White and the late Earl T. White, Sr. Tommy was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he was involved in many activities including the Angel Food Program. He was a volunteer at the Abbeville Senior Center. Surviving Mr. White is his mother of Abbeville, a son, Chris T. White of Starr, SC, and two sisters, Ann Gaskin of West Columbia, and Barbara Mosley of Greenwood.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00PM Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Harris Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00AM Thursday, July 22, 2004 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery. The family is at the home of his mother, Jennie G. White, 503 N. Main St., Abbeville.

James Adams
GREENWOOD – James Hiram Adams, 83, resident of 314 Virginia Avenue and a long time resident of the Cokesbury Community, husband of Frances Lewis Adams, died July 20, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Edgefield County, August 14, 1920, he was a son of the late James Talbert and Ida Lee Casey Adams. Mr. Adams formerly owned and operated Adams Motors and was currently associated with his son at Rudy’s Enterprises, Inc.
A member of Hyde Park Baptist Church, he was also a Mason and Shriner.
Mr. Adams was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Morrow Adams; a sister, Lois Woods Cushing and a brother, Thomas Ray Adams.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two sons, James R. “Rudy” Adams and Jack Styron, both of Greenwood; a daughter, Judy S. Jones of Dallas, TX; a sister, Joyce A. Quattlebaum of Lexington; three brothers, L. D. “Shorty” Adams and Charles L. “Doc’ Adams, both of Greenwood and Ronald L. Adams of Trenton; six grand-children; five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harvey Peurifoy, Rev. Tommy Thurston and Rev. Leland Scott officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gene Ouzts, Gene Adams, Danny Adams, Jimmy Long, Billy White, Keith Coker, Gerald Deaton and Carol Widner.
Honorary escort will be nephews and cousins along with Willie Dorn, Charles Brady, James “Bubba” Cothran, Sammy Graham, Billy Rushton, Charles Elmore, Jim Blackwell, Mike Ashley, Donnie Roberts, Ernest Nunn, Bill Wooten, Chip Tinsley, C. T. McDade, Ed Metts, Julian Campbell, Hilton Dodgen, Sr., Hubert Wilkie and Rayford Sheriff.
The family is at the home on Virginia Avenue and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Thursday evening.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

LIBERTY — Evelyn Dickard, 95, of 224 Roanoke Road, widow of Raymond Roy Dickard, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Palmetto Health Baptist.
Born in Chestoa, Va., she was a daughter of the late William Garson and Rosetta Jones Tipton. She was a homemaker and a member of Roanoke Baptist Church and the Golden Age Seniors Group and Mothers Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include four daughters, Sara Rice of Liberty, Martha Hughes of Greenwood, Dorothy Coggins of Greenville and Nancy Bowen of Easley; a son, Henry Dickard of Liberty; a sister, Margaret Price of Skipwith, Va.; a brother, Junior Tipton of Danville, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Roanoke Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Jack Shook, Randy McAlister and Craig Hughes. Burial is in Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. tonight at Liberty Mortuary.
The family is at the home.

Julia Barnwell Fisher
COLUMBIA — Julia Barnwell Fisher, 87, widow of George A. Fisher, died Monday, July 19, 2004.
Born in Abbeville, she was a graduate of St. Mary’s and Winthrop colleges and received a master’s degree in history from UNC Chapel Hill. She retired after teaching in the Columbia area and served as the clerk of the South Carolina Senate. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ann Pamela Cunningham Chapter, she served as regent from 1979-86. She was also a member of the Wisteria Garden Club.
Survivors include two brothers, Benjamin S. Barnwell of Raeford, N.C., and F. Edward Barnwell of Columbia.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Melrose Cemetery, Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Home at Still Hopes, One Still Hopes Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169.

John H. Griffin, of 213 Tompkins St., husband of Pearl Griffin, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.

The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are Charlie Spearman, Terry White, Stacey Aiken, Anthony Coates, Craig Patterson and Reggie Speech.
Flower bearers are nieces and cousins.

Ann Sherrill Smith Johnson
CHARLOTTE, NC – Ann Sherrill Smith Johnson, 85, of Charlotte, NC died July 20, 2004 in McCormick Health Care Center, McCormick, SC.
Born in Forest City, NC, she was the owner of Maico Hearing Aids. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Horton of Greenwood, SC, a son, Maxie Smith of Charlotte, NC and a sister, Gladys Young of Gastonia, NC. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her husband, J.E. Smith, a son, Charles E. Smith, her mother, Lela Melton Sherrill and her father, E.E. Sherrill.
Services will be at 3:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church with Dr. Byron Jones & Rev. Marvin Green officiating. Interment will be in Bethany Baptist Cemetery, Forest City, NC.
Visitation will be at Bethany Baptist Church on Friday from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
The family will be at the home of her daughter Gail Horton, 130 Peake Court, Ninety Six, SC 29666.
The family suggests memorials be made to Refiner’s Fire Christian Assembly, 509 Colonial Dr., Greenwood, SC 29649.

Bennie Lee Johnson
Bennie Lee Johnson, 81, of 2829 Highway 25 N., died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Richard C. and Essie Wimes Johnson. He was a member of Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, Hodges, and a former employee of the City of Evanston, Ill.
Survivors include a son, Charles Richard Johnson of Seattle; two brothers, Joseph Johnson of Greenwood and Richard Floyd of Evanston; two sisters, Mrs. William (Eula Mae) Aiken of Hodges and Mrs. Landon (Alberta) Lee of Greenwood; two grandchildren reared in the home, Malik Johnson and Elisheba Johnson, both of Seattle.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.

WARE SHOALS — Rachel Rodgers Rice, 85, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at National Healthcare in Greenwood.
The family is at the home of a daughter-in-law, Eyvonne Rice, 49 Cemetery Road.
Services will be announced by Robinson-Walker Funeral Service.

Effie Richardson
GREENWOOD – Effie Holmes Richardson, 80, resident of 112 Northgate Street, wife of Sion T. “Red” Richardson, died July 21, 2004 at her home.
Born in Edgefield County, October 13, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius V. and Mattilee Schenk Holmes. She was a graduate of Edgefield High School and the Greenwood College of Commerce. Mrs. Richardson retired from Greenwood Moose Lodge #834 after 31 years and American Legion Post #20 after 21 years of service.
A member of Lupo Memorial UnitedMethodist Church, the UMW and the Sample Sunday School Class of the church, she was also a member of The Women of the Moose where she held a degree in The Academy of Friendship and Star Recorder.
Mrs. Richardson was predeceased by her first husband, Wofford Anderson, a second husband, D. I. “Mac” McGaha and three sisters, Cornelia Taylor, Dot Hazel and Ruby Johnson.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a daughter, Beth and husband, Boyce Banks of Greenwood; two sons, Neil and wife, Maree Anderson, Glen and wife, Kathi Anderson, all of Greenwood; two step-daughters, Cathy and husband, Donnie Coker and Sandra and husband, Jack Shropshire, all of Greenwood; three step-sons, Larry and wife, Carolyn Richardson of Troy; Jack Richardson of Darlington and Mark and wife, Monty Richardson of Bradley; five sisters, Mary Ray of Simpsonville, Louise Collins of Columbia, Alva Jackson and Frances Collum, both of Edgefield and twin sister, Edith Petty of Clover; a long time friend, Jimmy Sprouse of Piedmont; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Sperry officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Steve Hamilton, Jeff Banks, Brent Banks, Mike Richardson, Keith Coker and Zvi McManus.

SUMMERVILLE — Vivian Janette Bryant Bishop, wife of Jack C. Bishop, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at a local hospital.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Tommie and Agnes Bryant. She was a charter member of Old Fort Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Co-Ed Sunday School Class and the Joy Singers. She was a lunchroom cashier at Newington Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jack C. “Chip” Bishop Jr. of Waynesville, N.C., Michael Bryant Bishop of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Kevin Thomas Bishop of Lexington; a daughter, Sara Elizabeth “Betsy” Knox of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Pat Young of Chester; a brother, T.J. Bryant of Greenwood; and nine grandchildren.
Services are at 10 Saturday at Old Fort Baptist Church in Summerville. Burial is at 5 p.m. in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, with visitation at the gravesite following the service.
Visitation is also from 6-8 tonight at the James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville.
