Frank A. Kennedy
NEW ZION — Frank A. Kennedy, 59, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born on Jan. 1, 1943, in the New Zion section of Clarendon County, he was the son of Carrie Tomlin Kennedy and the late Willie Kennedy Sr. He was educated at Walker Gamble School in New Zion. He joined Howard Chapel AME Church at an early age. He was a former employee of Dreher Meat Co. of Baltimore.

Survivors besides his mother include a son, Frank Kennedy Jr. of Baltimore; a stepson, James Junior Young of New Zion; four daughters, Darlene Kennedy of Columbia, Rosa Dee Dee Evans and her husband Derric of New Zion, Linda Kennedy and Carrie Kennedy of Baltimore; four brothers, Sunny Kennedy and his wife Irene of Baltimore, William A. Kennedy and Anthony Kennedy of New Zion and Marshall Kennedy of Greenville; four sisters, Inez Pouge and Flossie M. Makell of Baltimore, Pearl Cousar of Sardinia and Cora Wheeler of Turbeville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Lee, Henry, Willis, Willie Jr., Harmon and Eugene Kennedy; and two sisters, Ophelia Kennedy and Betha Bennett.

Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Howard Chapel AME Church. The Rev. Edward Roberts, pastor, officiated.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Sylvester Stukes
PINEWOOD — Sylvester “Bubba” Stukes, 74, husband of Annie Bell Stukes, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born April 14, 1927, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Moses and Maybell Logan Stukes.

Stukes worked as a farmer to help support his family. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County.

For 28 years, he worked at Fort Roofing Sheet and Metal Company in Sumter and was a member of the Paxville Hunting Club.

Survivors besides his wife include five daughters, Emma Mae Gaymon and her husband David and Dorothy Ann Pleasant and her husband Dumont of Pinewood, Jenny Lynn McCuren and her husband Herman and Zetta Richardson of Columbia and Betty Jean Scott and her husband Robert of Hemingway; a brother, Esau McCleod and his wife Betty of Dobby Ferrie, N.Y.; a sister, Sarah Matthews of White Plains, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Stukes; two sisters, Epsie Capers and Ella Nora Conyers; and two brothers, George Stukes and Marshall McCleod.

Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Pinewood. The Rev. Edward L. Sanders officiated, assisted by the Rev. John Johnson.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were friends of the family.

Louise W. Cain
Louise Wilson Cain, 64, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at her home.

Born in Hunlock Creek, Pa., she was the daughter of John T. and Alberta Decker Wilson. Mrs. Cain was an Accountant/Chemist and Real Estate Agent.

Survivors include a son, James R. Cain of Redding, Conn.; a daughter, Judith C. Cain of Mt. Pleasant; and a brother, John C. Wilson and his wife, Alice, of Danville, Pa.

Services were 2 p.m. Saturday at J. Henry Stuhr, Mt. Pleasant Chapel.

Interment followed in Mount Pleasant Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

David P. English Sr.
David Paul English Sr., 51, husband of Kristine Fullerton English, died Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at his home.

Born May 6, 1950, in Olney, Md., he was the son of Paul Morris and the late Daisy Fraley Morris. He was a produce manager for Food Lion and a Methodist.

Survivors besides his father of Sumter and his wife of Manning include a son, David Paul English Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Jennifer English of Myrtle Beach; four brothers, Tracy Morris of New Windsor, Md., Scott Morris of West Sunbury, Pa., Gary Morris of Surfside and Richard English of Clarksbury, Md.; and two sisters, Darlene Booty of Miami, Fla., and Bonnie Byers of Frederick, Md.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. William J. Holmes officiating.

Charles M. Kinsey Jr.
Charles Maxwell “Poodle” Kinsey Jr., 69, husband of Lois Bunch Kinsey, died Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at his home.

Born in Ehrhardt, he was the son of the late Charles Maxwell Kinsey Sr. and Laura Stanley Kinsey. He was a member of Ehrhardt Baptist Church and a 1954 graduate of The Citadel. Mr. Kinsey was also a former member of the Bamberg County School Board, the Bamberg County Hospital Board, served as Bamberg County Councilman and Chairman, owned and operated Farmer’s Trade Store in Ehrhardt, and was named Citizen of the Year in Bamberg County.

Survivors besides his wife of Manning include a daughter, Renee Kinsey Culbertson of Georgetown; a son, Charles Maxwell Kinsey III of Manning; two brothers, Dr. Frank Kinsey of Kiawah Island and Dr. Joseph Kinsey of Lake City; two sisters, Nell Black of Manning and Cynthia Johnson of Columbia; and three grandchildren.

Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Ehrhardt Baptist Church with the Rev. Grover Mixon officiating.

Burial followed in Ehrhardt Cemetery.

Charlie C. Osborne
Charlie Churchill Osborne, 58, husband of Patricia Welch Osborne, died Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Turbeville, he was the son of the late William Henry Osborne and Clarisa Dennis Osborne. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a self-employed contractor.

Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include three sons, Maj. Charlie C. Osborne Jr. of Austin, Texas , and Junior Welch and Johnny Welch of Sumter; a daughter, Melissa Frye of Sumter; four brothers, Dennis Osborne, Hugh Osborne and Ray Osborne of Sumter and the Rev. W. Claudie Osborne of Turbeville; three sisters, Nancy Carraway of Sumter, Elsie Speer of Ninety-Six and Daisy Polson of Bethune; and seven grandchildren.

Services were 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Revs. W. Claudie Osborne, Kenny Griffin and Billy Tschorn officiating.

Burial followed in Bethel Baptist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Estelle Singleton
Estelle Singleton, 96, died Thursday, August 23, 2001, in Philadelphia.

Born in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late James and Indrum Drayton James. She attended Rimini schools and in her youth, joined Antioch AME Church. She moved to Philadelphia and continued her religious work at Zoar United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three children and number of grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Drayton Sr. and James “Pat” Drayton; and a sister, Carrie Drayton Dow.

Services were 11 a.m. Friday at Zoar United Methodist Church in Philadelphia.

Allen L. White
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Allen Levan White. 47, died Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at his home in Anchorage, Alaska.

Born in Alcolu, he was the son of the late Isaac Levan and Louise Walker White.

Survivors include his wife Sunny White of Alaska; two daughters, Angela White of Lexington and Suki White of Atlanta; and a sister, Miriam Carnell of Florence.

Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Infant Baby Boy Bowman
The infant son of Tamika Bowman and Everett A. Rendell Jr. died Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Survivors besides his parents include a brother, Terry Yon; maternal grandparents, James and Esther Bowman of Summerton; a paternal grandfather, Everett Rendell Sr. of Summerton; a maternal great-grandmother, Janie Carter of Summerton; and a paternal great-grandfather, James Green Sr. of Summerton.

Graveside services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant UME Church in Panola with the Rev. William T. Johnson officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ronald E. DuBose
Ronald Edward DuBose, 53, husband of Susie Evans DuBose, died Monday, September 3, 2001, at his home.

Born in Lake City, he was the son of the late Elbey Ray DuBose Sr. and Mellow Snow McCutcheon DuBose. He was a member of Pineview Pentecostal Holiness Church in Kingstree. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and a self-employed truck driver.

Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, Ashley DuBose of Florence and Ronald Edward DuBose II of Charleston; a daughter, Casey Gause of Kingstree; a brother, Elbey Ray DuBose Jr. of Kingstree; three sisters, Janet Weeks of Moncks Corner, Gayle Baxley of Turbeville and Teresa Tisdale of Sumter; three stepchildren; and seven grandchildren.

Services were 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Coward officiating.

Burial followed in Florence National Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may be made to Tri-County Hospice.

Ike Epps Jr.
Ike Epps Jr., 75, husband of Classie Fulwood Epps, died Sunday, September 2, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born April 15, 1926, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Ike and Queenie McKnight Epps Sr. He was a kind, loving and gentle person.

Survivors besides his wife include four sons, Larry Epps of Sumter, James Epps Jr. and Tommy Epps of Lynchburg and Elroy Epps of Turbeville; five daughters, Ella Wright of Sumter and Rosa Epps, Betty McCray, Cathy Carter and Sylvia Dewitt of Lynchburg; a sister, Geneva Wilson of Lynchburg; 30 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Epps; four brothers; and a sister.

Services were 1 p.m. Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lynchburg with the Rev. James R. Cannion officiating.

Burial followed in Goodman Cemetery in Lynchburg.
