Milton L. Wilder
Milton Levern Wilder Sr., 52, husband of Mae Frances McFadden Wilder, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at William Bryan Jennings Hospital.

Born March 22, 1949, in Florence, he was the son of Pinckney and Louise Adger Wilder. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Scott’s Branch High School in 1968. After serving in the U.S. Army, he earned an associate’s degree from Central Carolina Technical College. He was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where he was active on many auxiliaries including the board of trustees and usher board. He was also a member of the Black River Baptist Association Brotherhood Alliance and Sunday school superintendent of St. Mark. After graduating from high school, in addition to serving in the U.S. Army, he held several jobs in Clarendon County and elsewhere. Prior to retirement due to his disability, he was self-employed.

Survivors besides his wife and parents include four sons, Lorenzo Holliday of Rock Hill, David Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla., Milton Jr. and Erik Wilder of the home; four daughters, Ruth Ann Edwards of Myrtle Beach and Victoria, Regina and Tanya Wilder of the home; four brothers, Sgt. Maj. Pinckney Wilder of Middletown, R.I., Harold Wilder of Summerton, Felix Boston of Pinewood and Kenneth Wilder of El Paso; 10 sisters, Barbara and Thelma Wilder of Bronx, N.Y., Brenda Watkins of Brandon, Fla., Mary, Marguerite and Dorothy Wilder of Pinewood, Bessie Spencer of New York, N.Y., Betty Richardson of Dallas, Texas , Linda Shannon of Sumter and Cora Shannon of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and a foster-son, Kelly Ceasar of Pinewood.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Doll Rogers; and four brothers, Mark, Matthew, Richard and Thomas Wilder.

Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Mark Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Chandler officiating, and the Revs. Johnus Matthews, Roosevelt Boyd, O’Donald Dingle, J.H. Pringle, D.L. Grant and Evangelist Naomi Georgia assisting.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

George W. Ridgeway
George W. Ridgeway, 76, husband of Bertha Tobias Ridgeway, died Monday, October 1, 2001, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Manning, he was the son of the late J.W. and Elizabeth Tobias Ridgeway. He was a retired truck driver for Ryder Truck Lines and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors besides his wife of Lexington include a son, Dale Ridgeway of Lexington; two sisters, Mae Gamble and Elizabeth Holliday of Manning; and two grandsons, Chip and Brian Ridgeway.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leon Ridgeway.

Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stephens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Carl M. Ridgle
Carl McDowell Ridgle, 73, husband of Pauline Barnes Ridgle, died Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at his home in Greeleyville.

Born Oct. 15, 1927, in Coward, he was the son of the late Johnny M. and Edith Dority Ridgle. He was retired from the Town of Greeleyville, and was a former member of Greeleyville Church of God.

Survivors besides his wife of Greeleyville include a son, Carl M. “Bubba” Ridgle Jr. of Manning; a brother, Luther Ridgle of Andrews; five daughters, Dorothy Moore and Patricia Graham of Kingstree, Betty McCall of Alcolu, Mary Branham of Greeleyville and Deborah Ciehanski of Kirksville, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Greeleyville Church of God with the Revs. Francis “Buddy” Jones and Sarah Jones officiating.

Burial followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Alfred I. Robinson
Alfred I. Robinson, 88, died Saturday, October 6, 2001, at his home after an illness.

Born in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Evander S. Robinson and Harriet C. Buddin. He was a retired farmer, carpenter and was a member of the Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas A. Robinson and Douglas Arthur Robinson of Turbeville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were 11 a.m. Monday at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Luvenia S. Branch
Luvenia Sinkler Branch, 63, died Tuesday, October 9, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born June 14, 1938, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Sinkler Sr. and Cora Anna Buckman Sinkler. She attended Sumter County public schools and in her youth, joined St. John Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Walter Branch and Ernest Branch of Sumter; a daughter, Lee B. Adams of Columbia; six brothers, Roosevelt Sinkler and Norman Sinkler of Pinewood, James Sinkler of Manning, Mark Sinkler and Levi Sinkler of Rochester, N.Y., and Eddie Sinkler Jr. of White Oak, Pa.; four sisters, Bertha King and Gladys Alston of Sumter, Rosanna Harriett of Rochester and Minnie McKay of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Services were 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John Baptist Church in Pinewood with the Rev. E.J. Timmons, pastor, officiating, and the Revs. Roosevelt Boyd and Herman Holland assisting.

Burial followed in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Leroy Robinson
Leroy “Roy” Robinson, 49, husband of Glenda Howard Robinson, died Saturday, October 6, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born May 21, 1952, in Sumter County, he was the son of Thomas Robinson and Edith Grant Robinson. He attended Sumter County public schools and was a 1971 graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a member of Joshua Baptist Church in Dalzell. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant.

Survivors besides his wife and parents include two sons, Justin Leroy Robinson of the home and Robert Rose of Boston, Mass.; a daughter, Colonda Tiffany Robinson of the home; two brothers, Charlie Robinson and Bernie Robinson of Sumter; three sisters, Edith Watkins, Sarah Jones and Karen Dow of Sumter; and a grandchild.

Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Joshua Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Dennis, pastor, officiating, and the Revs. Dorothy Maple, James Durant and Minister Rosa Muldrow assisting.

Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

Wallace Lee
OLANTA -- Wallace Lee, 70, husband of Dorothy Carmon Lee, died Monday, October 15, 2001.

Born in Florence County, he was the son of the late Henry Steven Lee and Eula Hudson Lee. He was retired from Santee Print in Sumter.

Survivors besides his wife of Olanta include three sons, Otis Lee and his wife, Jettie, of Cades, Sammie Lee and his wife, Patricia, of Florence and Ronnie Lee and his wife, Amy, of Scranton; four daughters, Ellen Windham and her husband, Thomas, of Olanta, Emma Morrison and her husband, John, of Florence, Faye Atkinson and her husband, A.Z., of Lynchburg and Connie Casey and her husband, David, of Scranton; two sisters, Carolyn Coleman and her husband, Elbert, of Lynchburg and Nan Hickman and her husband, Melvin, of Manning; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were 3 p.m. Wednesday at Olanta Church of God of Prophecy.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Sarah C. McFadden
Sarah Cousar McFadden, 85, widow of Bounes McFadden, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at National Healthcare.

She was born March 7, 1916, in New Zion.

She received her education from Martha Perit Presbyterian School in St. Augustine, Fla., and Kendall Institute in Sumter. She joined Friendship Presbyterian Church, where she served as an usher and a member of the senior choir and Presbyterian Women.

Survivors include two sons, LTC Letroy McFadden of Leesburg, Va., and Lawrence Cousar of New Haven, Conn.; a brother, Henry Cousar of Sumter; and a sister, Florence Jackson of Sumter.

Services were 3:30 p.m. Friday at Friendship Presbyterian Church with pastor Stanley W. Jones officiating and the Revs. Willie Wright Jr., Carnell Hampton, Jerome McCray and Dr. Leon Winn assisting.

Rebecca W. Colclough
Rebecca Washington Colclough, 89, widow of Major Colclough, died Sunday, October 21, 2001, at her home.

Born Sept. 23, 1912, in the Westminister community, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Mary Emma Tomlin Colclough.

She attended the public schools of Clarendon County, Allen University in Columbia and Durham Beauty of Durham, N.C. She joined Westminister Presbyterian Church and served on the senior choir and the deacon board. She retired from Meyer’s Manufacturing of Norfolk, Conn.

Survivors include a son, Robert Colclough of Alcolu; a daughter, Mary Emma Theus of Bronx, N.Y.; a foster daughter, Mary Clark of Manhattan, N.Y.; a granddaughter she reared as her own, Betty Blackwell of the home; a sister, Willie Jane Wacker of Deland, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gertrude Oliver.

Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Westminister Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Jones Jr. officiating and Dr. Franklin D. Colclough assisting.

Burial followed in Westminister Cemetery.

Samuel Jones
Samuel Jones, 65, husband of Augusta Jones, died Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 8, 1936, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Lee and Lucille McCullen Jones. Educated in the public schools of Sumter County, he served in the United States Armed Forces and was a disabled Korean War Veteran.

Survivors besides his wife include four sons, Vincent, Darius, Shane and Tyerone; three daughters, Denise, Mickie and Barbara; a brother, Fred Jones; three sisters, Alfreda Harris of Rochester, N.Y., Geneva Covington of Sumter and Emma Durant of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Jones; and two sisters, Mary Jones and Annie Mae Jones.

Services were 11 a.m. Monday at Palmer Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Daisy J. Bennett
Daisy Johnson Bennett, 93, widow of Wash Bennett Sr., died Monday, October 29, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 25, 1908, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late William and Lucretia Johnson. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She was a member of Liberty Hill AME Church, where she served on the stewardess and missionary boards.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Frank and Annie L. Bennett, of Summerton; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Joseph, George and Wash Bennett Jr.

Services were 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Hill AME Church with the Rev. Malachi Duncan, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Grandsons served as the pallbearers.
