GREENWOOD — Josephine Chastain Boyter, 80, formerly of 204 Kitson St., widow of Frank Boyter Sr., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Magnolia Manor.
Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late James and Lula Snyder Chastain. She attended Northside Holiness Church.
Survivors include a son, Frank Boyter Jr. of Greenwood; two daughters, Ruby Cothran of Waterloo and Margaret Williams of Greenwood; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 2 today at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by Mr. Marvin Dangerfield.
Visitation is from 12:30-1:30 today at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her son, Frank Boyter Jr., 217 Kitson St.
Memorials may be made to Magnolia Manor, 1415 Parkway, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Charles Callaham

McCORMICK — Charles Callaham, husband of Janie Bell Price Callaham, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Brewer Nursing Home.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late Robert and Frances Gilchrist Callaham. He was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch. He was a retired construction worker.
Surviving in addition to his wife of McCormick is a son, Cleveland Callaham of Plum Branch; a sister, Carrie Blocker of Plum Branch; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of his son, Highway 67, New Hope Road.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Janie Pitts

DONALDS — Janie Pitts, 85, of Donalds, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include a niece, Anita Davis of the home; a sister, Alice Davis of the home and two brothers, Roger Davis of Long Island, N.Y. and Jefferson Davis of the home.
Services will be announced by Abbeville & White Mortuary, which is in charge.

Alyce Frazier Smith

GREENWOOD — Alyce Frazier Smith, 82, of 101 Donegal Drive, Emerald Place, widow of the late Aaron Smith, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the home of her niece.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late James G. Frazier and the late Verda Singleton Frazier. She was a member of Faith Christian Center Church. She was formerly a member of the Catholic Church, while residing in Charlotte. She was a graduate of Brewer Normal School. She was a retired florist and a retired worker with the Charlotte School System. She was a member of Alpha Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The family is at the home of her niece, Carolyn Lanier, 101 Donegal Drive.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary, which is in charge.

Dorothy Weeks

GREENWOOD — Dorothy Johnson Weeks, 77, of 201-A Brooks Stuart Drive, widow of Henry Boyd Weeks, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at her home.
Born in Ameagle, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Zella Mae Painter Johnson. She was a member of Providence Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Deanna Timms of Hodges, Brenda Cole and Patricia “Patsy” Holloway, both of Greenwood; two sisters, Myrtle Cooper of Charleston and Betty Cronlotac of Middlebrook Heights, Ohio; two brothers, Roy Johnson of York and Richard Johnson of Hampton, Ohio; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Laurin Young and the Rev. Dan Alexander. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Larry Paysinger, Raymond Dill, Terrell Holloway, Don Riggins, Mark Faulkner and Tommy Eddy.
Visitation is from 6-7:30 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Sid and Brenda Cole, 223 Chipley Road, Callison Highway.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles Callaham

PLUM BRANCH — Services for Charles Callaham are at 1 Wednesday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. W.H. McCain, pastor, and the Rev. Otis Cunningham. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers are church officers and friends of the family.
The family is at the home of a son, Cleveland Callaham, New Hope Road.
Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, is in charge.

Dollie Mae Cartledge

PLUM BRANCH — Dollie Mae Stevens Cartledge, 70, wife of Deacon James D. Cartledge, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at her home.
Born in Plum Branch, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Willie Mae Jones Stevens. She was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church, where she was a former president of the Missionary Society, a senior choir member, a deaconess and an usher board member. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, treasurer of the Heroines of Jericho and a member of Cedar Spring Burial Aide Society and Mount Moriah Burial Aide Society.
Survivors include her husband of the home; eight sons, Willie Raymond Cartledge, Leroy Cartledge, Arthur Cartledge, Claude Cartledge and Joe Lewis Cartledge, all of Plum Branch, Reginald Wayne Cartledge of Greenwood, Kenneth Cartledge of Charlotte, N.C., and Larry Cartledge of Columbia; a brother, Willie A. Stevens of Plum Branch; a sister, Nancy Harrison of Callison; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home on Route 1.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, which is in charge.

Miriam D. Field

SENECA — Miriam D. Field, 91, of Eden Gardens, Greenwood, formerly of Seneca, widow of James Perry Field Sr., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002.
She was a retired secretary, working for Byrd-McLellan Agency, and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, James Perry Field Jr. of Greenwood and Jane Elizabeth Field of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.
Services are today at 2 at Seneca Mortuary, with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family is at the Irick home, 313 Hillandale Road, Seneca.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 210 W. South 6th St., Seneca, S.C. 29678.
Seneca Mortuary is in charge.

Fred Hudgens

GREENWOOD — Fred William Hudgens, 71, of 112 Windsor Oak Court, husband of Shirley Wrenn Hudgens, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Doyle and Onnie Shirley Hudgens. He was a Korean War Army veteran and retired as composing room supervisor of The Index-Journal after 35 years service. He was a member of Woodfields Baptist Church, the Men’s Sunday School Class of the church and Mathews Masonic Lodge No. 358.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two stepsons, Vernon Devore of Greenwood and Jody Devore of Spartanburg; three sisters, Lucille Adams of Anderson, Gail Hamilton of Dunkirk, Md., and Joyce Allison of Hodges; a brother, Troy Hudgens of Greenwood; and two step-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Robert Miller and the Rev. Reuel Westbrook. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Rodney Blanton, Bill Wilson, Jack Wheless, Bill Hagood, Jim Joyce and Manuel Timms.
Honorary escorts are the Stoney Point Golf Rangers, along with Mike Monahan, Smiley Bryant, Tunny Blackmon, Warren Cox and Kenneth Wheless.
Visitation is from 1-2 Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Ted McMeekin

ABBEVILLE — R. Ted McMeekin, 61, of 237 Third Ave., Lake Succession, Iva, formerly of 506 Sunset Drive, Abbeville, husband of Frances Stancil McMeekin, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at his home.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late J.D. and Thelma Bishop McMeekin. He graduated from North Greenville Junior College and Furman University. Owner and operator of McMeekin Contracting, he was also a card room supervisor with J.P. Stevens Co., Calhoun Falls, for 23 years. He was a charter member and past commander of Olde Abbeville Camp No. 39, Sons of Confederate Veterans and a member of the Abbeville Jaycees and Lions Club. A Mason and member of Clinton Lodge No. 3 A.F.M., he was also a Shriner. He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and RA leader.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Ginger M. Williamson of Fayetteville, Ga.; two sons, Dr. Stan McMeekin of Taylors and Dave McMeekin of Greer; and seven grandchildren.
Services are at 3 Wednesday at Abbeville First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Reiny Koschel and the Rev. Jerry Dalton. Burial, with Masonic rites, is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 12:30-2:30 Wednesday in the church social hall.
The family is at the home in Iva.

Mrs. Pitts, widow of Moses Pitts, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at her home. Born in Baltimore, she moved to Donalds at an early age.

Lorna Branch

JAY, Fla. — Lorna Elizabeth Branch, 55, wife of Bobby Branch, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Lambert and Louise Scott. She was a secretary at Burkhead Cotton Gin Co., Jay, and a member of Century Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, James “Jimmy” Jenkins of East Brewton, Ala., and Daniel Ray Jenkins of Jay; a daughter, Angela Elizabeth Branch of Jay; three brothers, Danny Burroughs of Greenwood, Richard Burroughs of Spartanburg, S.C., and Rocky Burroughs of West Palm Beach; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Darlene) Blackmon of Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
Services are at 2 today at Flomaton Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Dixon. Burial is in Flomaton Cemetery, Flomaton, Ala.
