Wayne F. McHone
Died: Jan 30, 2003

Wayne F. McHone, son of James F. and Josephine (Randolph) McHone, was born March 11, 1912, in Burdett, SD. He grew up in Garretson, SD. At age 12, Wayne moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD where he received his education at Washington High School.
Wayne was united in marriage with Loretta Preuss on February 22, 1932, in Sioux Falls. He worked for the Council Oak Grocery Store in Sioux Falls for 15 years. Wayne then worked at John Morrell and Company for three years before entering the U.S. Army in 1943. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Wayne returned to Sioux Falls where he owned and operated McHone Garbage Service. He later worked for Hills of Rest Memorial Park as the head groundskeeper, while owning the Spur Tavern in Valley Springs, SD. Wayne then worked at Dow-Rummel Village as a maintenance man and at Sunshine Foods until retiring in 1998 at the age of 85.
Wayne was united in marriage with Phyllis Cummings on December 20, 1980, in Mitchell, SD. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling, but his passion in life was horses.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughters, Sandra TenCate and her husband, Robert, Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy Graves, Hartley, IA; one son, Pastor Randolph McHone and his wife, Nancy, Waterloo, IA; 11 grandchildren, Todd Knochenmus, Sioux Falls, SD, Scott Knochenmus, Sioux Falls, SD, Erich McHone, Waterloo, IA, Stephanie East, Story City, IA, Paul McHone, Dunkerton, IA, Gretchen McHone, Story City, IA, Rachel McHone, Story City, IA, Joel Griffin, Hartley, IA, Brady Griffin, Sandborn, IA, Ashley Graves, Iowa City, IA, Sarah Graves, Hartley, IA; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wives, Loretta and Phyllis; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Knochenmus; his parents; and a sister, Erma Range.
Wayne now rests from his labors, awaiting the resurrection to eternal life through his faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

John M. "Jack" Ulin
Died: Jan 30, 2003

John M. “Jack” Ulin, son of Otto and Elizabeth (Wrenn) Ulin, was born February 4, 1920 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up and received his education there.
Jack was united in marriage with Luella A. Flom on May 26, 1940 in Willmar, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Jack was employed at John Morrell and Company for 42 years before retiring.
Jack was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was an avid gardener. He loved and cared for all animals.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Luella; his children, Thomas Ulin and his wife, Patricia, Sioux Falls, SD, Mary Jo Everhart and her husband, Neil, Moville, IA, Betty Klemme and her husband, Darwyn, Sioux City, IA, Nancy Jensen and her husband, Cameron, Tea, SD; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, William Ulin and his wife, Agnes, Northridge, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Ulin, in 1989; and his parents.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at St. Mary Catholic Church following the committal service.

William VanVelzen
Died: Feb 02, 2003

William “Bill” VanVelzen, son of Peter and Jennie (Bos) VanVelzen, was born April 26, 1923 in Magnolia, MN. Bill moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD when he was six months old. Bill grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education at Washington High School. Following graduation, he worked a number of odd jobs in Sioux Falls.
Bill was united in marriage with Roma “Ferne” Besew on November 30, 1942 in South Sioux City, NE. He served in the United States Army in 1943. Following his honorable discharge later that year, Bill worked for John Morrell & Company for several years. He then owned and operated Roof Service for 45 years.
Bill was united in marriage with Beatrice Steensma on April 25, 1987 in Nashua, IA.
He was a charter member of First Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed antique cars, traveling and his work. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Beatrice VanVelzen, Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, William R. VanVelzen and his wife, Karen, Bloomingdale, TN, Pete VanVelzen and his wife, Maria, Sheldon, IA; two daughters, Lynn Devlin and her husband, Tim, Madison, SD, Edie VanVelzen Hopkins and her husband, Duane, Richfield, MN; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Olson and her husband, Bruce, Sioux Falls, SD, A.J. Silseth and her husband, Don, Grant, MI; three sisters, Jennie Getting and her husband, Art, Sioux Falls, Alberta Hubbling and her husband, John, Laverne, MN, Ann Feikema, Laverne, MN; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ferne, in 1984; a son, Michael, in infancy; his parents; a brother, Cornelius; and his twin sister, Jennie, in infancy.
Relatives and friends are invited to remain at First Christian Reformed Church for lunch and fellowship with the family following their return from Hills of Rest Memorial Park.

Angela L. Branson
Died: Mar 29, 2003

Angela Love Merklinger, daughter of Charles and Irena (Scott) Merklinger, was born on July 8, 1919 at Aberdeen, SD. She graduated from high school in Dell Rapids, SD.
Angela was united in marriage with Tommy N. Branson on February 20, 1939 in Parker, SD. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Madison, Montrose, and Fedora, SD before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1966. Angela worked as a cook for the Ebenezer Nursing Home and then worked at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Sioux Falls for 15 years. Angela was an excellent cook and baker, but above all, she always felt that being a wife and mother was her life’s work. Tommy preceded her in death on May 18, 1993.
She was a former member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Tea, SD and St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD before becoming a member of the Parish of St. Michael in Sioux Falls, SD.
Grateful for having shared his life are her son, Gary Branson, Sioux Falls, SD; four daughters, Phyllis Tunender, Norman, OK, Margie Dominy and her husband, Mark, Sioux Falls, Cheryl Crissman and her husband, Ernest, Lennox, SD, Linda Smith, Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Tommy, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Rex, and Orville; three sisters, Midge Bishop, and two in infancy.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at St. Michael Catholic Church immediately following the Mass and prior to going to Mt. Olive cemetery in Lennox, SD for the committal service.

Edwin M. Schjodt
Died: Mar 29, 2003

Edwin Morris Schjodt, son of Peter B. and Emily Schjodt, was born December 16, 1912 on the family farm near Renner, SD. Following his mother’s death when he was still a young child, he was raised by his aunt, Borghild Schjodt. He received his education at Berg School near Renner.
As a young man Edwin worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930’s. In 1939, he volunteered in the United States Army Air Corps where he served in several different capacities. He specialized in airplane mechanics during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Edwin owned and operated a garage in Renner with his brother, Lawrence. In 1957, Edwin re-enlisted into the United States Air Force. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972.
Edwin was united in marriage with Han Sun Kong on June 10, 1969 at Seoul, Korea. Following his retirement and discharge from the Air Force, the couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD, where Edwin was able to be at home to raise his four youngest daughters. He had a passion for playing golf, enjoyed bowling, watching boxing and NASCAR racing, playing cribbage with his friend, Bob Finch, playing cards and working crossword puzzles.
Edwin was a member of the Thompson-Schjodt American Legion of Renner, SD, and a longtime member of the Parker Golf Course and Elmwood Golf Course.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Han Schjodt, Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters from a previous marriage, Emilie Collins and her husband, Tom, Knoxville, TN, Glenda Sours and her husband, David, Olathe, KS; and his and Han’s four daughters, Jonnie Schjodt, Sioux Falls, SD, Sonja Grave and her husband, Kevin, Sioux Falls, SD, Susan Schjodt, Cheyenne, WY, Deborah Schjodt, Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, Eric Collins and his wife, Vicki, Sean Collins, Jennifer Reasoner and her husband, Jeff, Brandon Schjodt, Travis Grave, Olivia Grave; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Grace Collins and Amelia Lynn Collins; one brother, Lawrence Schjodt, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glynn; and his special aunt, Borghild Schjodt.

Dorothy M. Severson
Died: Mar 29, 2003

Dorothy M. Prestin, daughter of Clarence and Angeline (Bruns) Prestin, was born March 5, 1929 in Sac County, IA. She went to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Dorothy was united in marriage with Norman Severson in Luverne, MN on July 2, 1954. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. She worked as a nurse at McKennan Hospital, Good Samaritan Center, Good Samaritan Village and later at Sioux Valley Hospital. She retired in 1991.
Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. She was also a member of the Brandon VFW Auxiliary and a very active member of the Sioux Falls Women of the Moose.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Norman Severson, Sioux Falls, SD; one son, Larry Severson and his wife, Peggy, Anchorage, AK; two daughters, Diane Johnson and her husband, Ron, Minneapolis, MN, Angela Volman and her husband, Brian, Palm Bay, FL; eight grandchildren; four brothers, Dwayne Prestin and his wife, Marcie, Tucson, AZ, Clarence Prestin and his wife, Shirley, Killeen, TX, Kenneth Sieve and his wife, Mary, Worthington, MN, Darwin Sieve and his wife, Mary, Worthington, MN; one sister, Iva Dell Barber and her husband, Gene, Worthington, MN; her special friends, Jerry and Sue Smith, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

John B. Bailey, son of Dale Eugene Bailey and Margaret Mary (Mead) Bailey, was born September 8, 1955 in Mitchell, SD. As a child he moved to Presho, SD where he grew up and received his education.
John worked for several years with the Burlington Northern Railroad before poor health forced his retirement in 1987.
Grateful for having shared his life are two sons, Benjamin and Doug; his grandchildren; three brothers, Dale Bailey, Minneapolis, MN, David Bailey, Knoxville, IA, Scott Bailey, Sioux Falls, SD; four sisters, Patricia Zaugg, Sioux Falls, SD, Susan Smith and her husband, John, Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy Bailey, Minneapolis, MN, Jane Bailey, Sioux Falls, SD; his nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Evelyn E. Dybing
Died: Mar 26, 2003

Evelyn Ellen Grey, daughter of Charles E. and Tabitha E. (Robison) Grey, was born October 9, 1921 in Miller, SD. She attended Sunbeam School in Hand County and graduated from St. Lawrence (SD) High School in 1938. Evelyn helped her parents on their farm for three years before entering nurse’s training at St. Mary’s Hospital, Pierre, SD. After graduating with an RN diploma in 1944, she returned to Miller and worked at the hospital there for one year.
Evelyn was united in marriage with John H. Dybing at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller on June 24, 1945. The couple made their home in Presho, SD for 12 years before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1957. She worked for a time at Sioux Valley Hospital. Evelyn then transferred to Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital where she worked for 26 years. She had also worked at Worrall Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital, both in Rochester, MN. While working, she was a member of the South Dakota Nursing Association.
Evelyn had been a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church since 1959. After retiring, she served on the Senior Board and represented the church for six years as a member of the TELL organization. She was also a member of the WELCA. In addition, Evelyn was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the National Volunteer Health Agency and the Friendship Club. She was a long-time member of the Sioux Falls Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, faithfully serving in education and support of people with diabetes, their family and friends. In 1996 she was honored for many hours of dedicated volunteerism by receiving the Golden Rule Award sponsored by JC Penney Company and the Volunteer Information Center.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Johna Lee “Jody” Thornton, Sioux Falls, SD, Randy M. Dybing, Sioux Falls, SD; her granddaughter, Jessica Anne Dybing, Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on July 24, 1981; a son, Lester; and four brothers, Ralph, Lyle, Robert and Lee.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church following the funeral service and prior to leaving for the committal service.
Evelyn’s family requests that memorials be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
