Gerald 'Jerry' Totman, 69

Gerald “Jerry” Totman, 69, Whitewood, died July 7, 2011 at the Advanced Care Hospital in Billings, Mont.
Jerry was born March 7, 1942, at New Ulm, Minn., to Harvey and Ruby (Millard) Totman.
He graduated from high school in Minneapolis. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1969. He married Jill Thompsen in 1963. To this union two children were born, Todd and Zana. Terry and Jill then lived in Fridley, Minn., from1972-1999. During that time he worked at Sequoia Supply in Minneapolis for 20 years. He then moved to Spearfish, where he owned Sherwood Lodge for 18 years, along with Hotoddy's snow plowing. He was a social butterfly. Jerry was also an avid horseback rider and loved trail rides and wagon trains through the hills. He always enjoyed taking his grandchildren on the wagon train, but was glad to see them go home. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Deadwood Post 5969, where he served as commander and chaplain.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, along with two brothers, Ronnie and Darwin and a sister, Darlene.
He is survived by his wife, Jill; son, Todd (Denise) Totman; daughter, Zana (Chas) McKinney; 11 grandchildren, Brandon McKinney, Cassie (Jeremy) Boldt, Amanda (Tony) Williams, Aaron Otterness, C.J. McKinney, Zack Otterness, Brittany McKinney, Jake McKinney, Hunter McKinney, Tommy Totman and Nick Hook. He also is survived by four great-grandchildren, Ali Jensen, Declan Jensen, Archer Woodrick and Cash Williams.
Memorial services for Jerry will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.

Adrian Michael Garcia, infant

Adrian Michael Garcia, infant 0 comments
Adrian Michael Garcia, infant son of Loren and Jodi Garcia, was stillborn July 7, 2011 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Mt. View Baptist Church in Spearfish with Pastor Matt Branum officiating.
Adrian is survived by his parents and brother Christian of Spearfish; grandmother Karen Rembold of Spearfish and grandfather Robert Garcia of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Michael Rembold and grandmother Sara Garcia.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Services, Spearfish.

Lonnie Wayne Johnson, Sr., 55

Lonnie W. Johnson, Sr., passed away at his home in Lead on July 6, 2011.
Memorial services for Lonnie will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead.
Lonnie's survivors include two sons, Lonnie Johnson, Jr. of Deadwood, Jerimy of Douglas, Wyo., and a daughter, Tiffany Johnson of Marina del Rey, Calif., and one grandchild.
Arrangements are under the care of Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel of Lead.

Irene Tammi, 79

Irene Tammi, 79 0 comments
Irene Tammi, 79, Sturgis, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Monday, July 11 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with the Rev. Michael Fox officiating.
Burial follows at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established.
Irene was born April 24, 1932, in Bismarck, N.D., to Christ and Katie (Rohrback) Schumaker.
She attended country school in the Arpan area. Later, she worked at the hospital in Belle Fourche.

Milton "Mickey" Donald Hayes, 87

Milton "Mickey" Donald Hayes, 87, our beloved father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2011.
He was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. on March 23, 1924.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Arlene; and his son, Arthur.
Surviving are his daughter Ginger Lowry of Colorado (Jim Bellew), and her daughter Christi McNulty and her daughters Catie and Erin of Colorado; her son, Paul Willner, his wife, Courtney and their children Aiden Mickey, Rominey and Landon Hayes of Florida.
He is also survived by his son Milton Hayes “Mel” and his wife Donna of Colorado; his daughter Reba Knuckles and her husband Dennis of South Dakota, their daughters Amy Pino and her husband Sheldon of South Dakota; and Leslie Grisham and her husband Bryan and their children Preston (aka Duke to his great-grandpa) and Peyton of South Dakota.
A private graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Pine Slope cemetery in Belle Fourche, at a later date.

Jerald Totman, 69

Jerald Totman, 69, of Whitewood, died July 7, 2011 at Advanced Care Hospital in Billings, Mont.
Jerald is survived by his wife, Jill; son, Todd Totman; daughter, Zana McKinney; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.

Patty L. Cain, 67

Patty L. Cain, 67 0 comments
Patty L. Cain, 67, of Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday July 11, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Jeff Dilks officiating.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.
A public prayer service will be held at 5 p.m.
Interment will be held at Pine Slope cemetery in Belle Fourche.

Audrey Gail Coxbill Gabel, 71

Audrey Gail Coxbill Gabel, 71 of Spearfish, died of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease on July 5, 2011.
She was born on May 3, 1940 to Ferne and Earl Coxbill who resided in Atkinson, Neb. Audrey was valedictorian of her graduating class and went on to obtain her bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University. She received both her master's and doctorate degrees from the department of botany and plant pathology at Iowa State University.
Audrey taught biology at Black Hills State University for 18 years and continued her research on the fungi of the state after her retirement. She is the author of many scientific articles and presented papers at both national and regional meetings. She presented her last scientific talk at the April 2011 meeting of the South Dakota Academy of Science. Audrey, along with one of her former students, Elaine Ebbert, also authored a photographic guidebook to fungi of the Black Hills.
Audrey was an avid backpacker, hiker and cross-country skier. She enjoyed nature and travel, especially long distance hikes in foreign countries. She had a dynamic enthusiasm that entered all aspects of her life from her professional career to her personal relationships. Her conservation efforts in the community, dedication to teaching and research, energetic involvement with friends and family and overall spirit of curiosity and adventure will be remembered by those who had the good fortune to know her.
Audrey was formerly married to Richard Wacha of Des Moines, Iowa, and married Mark Gabel in 1985. She is the mother of two children, Heather Wacha of Iowa City, Iowa, and Richard Wacha of Taipei, Taiwan. She is survived by her husband, Mark; her children; her sister, Bette (Coxbill) Cox of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and her brother, Clifford Coxbill of Okeechobee, Fla.
Memorials may be sent to the Black Hills State University Herbarium or the Black Hills Program of The Nature Conservancy. A non-religious celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 in the Matthews Opera House in downtown Spearfish.

Leo J. Giacometto, 101

Leo J. Giacometto, 101, of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in Belle Fourche.
He is survived by his son, Leo E. Giacometto of Stevensville, Mont.; daughter, Marianne Kopkowski of Belle Fourche; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Giacometto.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 10 at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 11 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche.
Burial will follow at Pine Slope cemetery in Belle Fourche.
