ARMOUR -- Margaret Bess Varilek, 76, of Armour, SD died Friday, August 27, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Center, Armour, SD.
Funeral service will be Monday, August 30, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Geddes, SD with burial following in the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Geddes, SD.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 29, 2004, from 6-8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Geddes, SD. Prayer services will be Sunday, August 29, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Geddes, SD.
Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Armour, is in charge of the arrangements.
Margaret Bess Varilek was born on January 27, 1928, south of Geddes, SD to Clarence and Lillian (Petrik) Durham. She graduated from Geddes High School, Geddes, SD in 1945. She attended Yankton College, Yankton, SD and attained a teaching certificate. She taught one year at White Swan School, rural Geddes, SD. On February 2, 1946, she married Elvern Varilek in Geddes, SD. Elvern died on June 13, 2004. She dedicated her life to her children and cooking.
Margaret was a member of United Methodist Church and circle, Geddes, SD, extension board, county fair board, civic club, was a 4-H leader and was famous for bull sale meatballs.
Margaret is survived by five children: Donna (Larry) Dufek, Watertown, SD; Tom (Carol) Varilek, Geddes; Mick (Lynn) Varilek, Geddes; Kathy (John) Guenther, Elk Point, SD; and Lory (Dave) DuFrain, Geddes, SD; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Ed) Bruner, Lake Andes, SD; three brothers: Buzz (Donna) Durham, Lake Andes, SD; Richard Durham, Geddes, SD; and Mervin (Carol) Durham, Lake Andes, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvern; twin granddaughters; special friends, Tony and Marie Oberembt; and one sister-in-law.

VERMILLION -- Arlen Wheelock, 71, Vermillion, died Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2003) at the Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital.

ELK POINT -- John "Jack" Donnelly, 78, Elk Point, died Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2003) at the Prairie Estates Care Center, Elk Point.

Helen M. Grajkowske
PARKSTON -- Helen M. Grajkowske, 92, Parkston, died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at Avera Bormann Manor, Parkston.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church, Parkston. Burial is in the Parkston Protestant Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today (Friday) at the Salem Lutheran Church, Parkston.
She was born Aug. 17, 1911, to Henry and Anna (Voege) Gehring on the family farm near Milltown. She attended country school near Milltown through the eighth grade prior to working for various families in their homes. She married James Grajkowske in September 1936. She then worked for Prieb & Sons and later Parkston Produce until finally working at the Parkston Good Samaritan Center.
She was a member of the Women's Relief Corps and enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean (Ronald) Buehner, Emery; one son, Terry (Marcia) Grajkowske, Mitchell; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Alma Folkerts, Emery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one great-grandchild, one sister and three brothers.
Clorice J. Faulk
Clorice J. Faulk, 86, Yankton, died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at Avera Sunset Manor, Irene.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ray, Cantrell & Wintz Funeral Home, Yankton, with the Revs. Nelson and Marilyn Stone officiating. Burial is in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton.
Pallbearers are Bob Baldwin, Arlan Boelter, Dick Goff, Greg Ringler, Loren Skinner and Jason Skovly.
Visitation is from 1-9 p.m. today (Friday) at Ray, Cantrell & Wintz Funeral Home with the family present from 7-8 p.m.
She was born Feb. 19, 1917, at Homer, Neb., to Fred and Alice (Hibbs) Goff. She attended kindergarten through the 12th grade at Lyons, Neb., graduating from the Lyons High School in 1935. On June 9, 1935, she married Arnold Faulk at Sioux Falls and they were married for 54 years and one month. They farmed near Mission Hill moving to Yankton in 1961. She retired from the Human Services Center in 1976, following 15 years of employment there.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Yankton.
She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Jerry (Barbara) Faulk, Yankton; one daughter, Janice Wiedmeier, Rapid City; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bess Baldwin, Warrensburg, Mo.; and special friend, Marge Hansen, Yankton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and three brothers.
Memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ, Yankton.
Donald L. "Don" Johnson
Donald L. "Don" Johnson, 83, Yankton, died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Yankton, with the Rev. Dean Trapp officiating. Burial is in the Yankton Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, with the family present in the fellowship room at 7 p.m. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Michael S. Mendel
HOUSTON -- Michael S. Mendel, 68, Houston and formerly of Freeman, died Sept. 26, 2003, at his home in Houston.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial is at the Salem Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, Bridgewater.

Marjorie Keeler
LAKE ANDES -- Marjorie F. Keeler, 92, Lake Andes, died Thursday (Sept. 11, 2003) at Wagner Indian Health Services Center.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lake Andes, with burial in the St. Philip's Episcopal Cemetery, rural Lake Andes.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Koehn Brothers Funeral Home, Lake Andes. There is an 8 p.m. prayer service at the church.
She was born June 4, 1911, at Geddes to Fred and Rose (Bordeaux) Barbie. She attended St. Mary's School for Girls in Springfield and later married Edison Keeler at Lake Andes. She lived her entire life in the Lake Andes area.
She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the church altar guild, Rebecca Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors, extension club and was also a 500 Club member.
Survivors include six children: William (Sarah) Keeler, Little Rock, Ark.; Mary Lou (James) Templeton, Lake Andes; Charles (Maria) Keeler, Richland, Wash.; Vesta (Tom) Habben, Lake Andes; John Keeler, Sioux Falls; and Edison (Linda) Keeler, Dickinson, N.D.; four sisters: Ilene Banta, Lake Andes; Eleanor Alred of Utah; Katherine Pippen of California and Barbara Sing of Alaska; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, two grandsons and two brothers.

WAGNER -- Leona Roman, 90, Wagner, died Friday (Sept. 12, 2003) at the Wagner Community Hospital.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Wagner.
Burial is in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner.
Visitation is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home, Wagner.
A rosary/wake service is at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Anna Smidt
FREEMAN -- Anna V. Smidt, 102, Freeman, died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at the Freeman Community Nursing Home, Freeman.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Freeman. Burial is in Salem Community Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 4:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.
The Walter Funeral Home, Freeman, is in charge of arrangements.
Anna Graber was born April 4, 1901 in Turner County. She married Harold Smidt June 28, 1928. They farmed south of Freeman. Her husband died in 1969.
She is survived by three nieces, one nephew and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Graber, Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Delores Quast
MODESTO, Calif. -- Delores Quast, 70, Modesto, Calif., died Wednesday (Nov. 5, 2003) at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Modesto.
Delores was a native of South Dakota and lived in Modesto since 1980. She was a nurse for more than 30 years. Since retiring, she was active in Inner Faith Ministries, Townsend Opera, Emanuel Lutheran Church and the Munnie 9ers Golf Club.
Survivors include her children: Debra Quast, Sacramento, Calif.; Dianne Quast, Spokane, Wash.; and Gary Quast, Santa Rosa, Calif.; four grandchildren; her brothers: Elmer Neth, Walter Neth, Emil Zeeb and Carl Zeeb, all of South Dakota; and her sister, Eleanor Renner of South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Quast.

Elmer Hochstein
COLERIDGE, Neb. -- Elmer Hochstein, 79, Coleridge, Neb., died Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2003) at his residence.
The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, Neb., with the Rev. John Pietramale officiating. Burial is in St. Michael's Cemetery, Coleridge, with military services by the Coleridge American Legion Post No. 114.
Visitation is 1-5 p.m. Thursday, with a 2 p.m. rosary, at Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
There is a 7 p.m. vigil service Thursday night at the church.
