Thursday October 14th, 2010 at 10:00am

Francis Mark Heidrich, 49, Belle Fourche, died Friday, October 8, 2010 at his home in Belle Fourche.
A rosary will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newell. A mass follows at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Timothy Hoag officiating. Inurnment will be at the Hope Cemetery near Newell.
A memorial has been established.
Francis was born August 4, 1961 at Belle Fourche, SD, to Jack and Mary (Schumacher) Heidrich. He attended school in Nisland and graduated from Newell High School.Francis worked for ACC at Colony, WY. He worked for the sawmill in Belle Fourche and Woods' Sawmill in Spearfish before joining Johnson Tree Service in Rapid City. He moved to Houston, TX, and was employed with Big John's Tree Service. The company moved him to Las Vegas where he worked until 2006.
He returned home to Belle Fourche where he enjoyed fishing and boating. He was a member of the Center of the Nation Sportman's Club.Survivors include his father, Jack Heidrich, Nisland; brothers, Edward (Vicki) Heidrich, Park City, MT, Greg Heidrich, Ft. Smith, MT, Dean Heidrich, Belle Fourche, LeRoy Heidrich, Belle Fourche; one sister Sue (Robert) Schnaible, Belle Fourche; also numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mildred Fern Voigt

June 1, 1927 - October 4, 2010

3:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct 16th

Mildred Fern Voigt (nee Preszler), 83, of Memphis, TN, was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Oct 4, 2010 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born in Meadow SD, June 1, 1927 to Jake and Christine Preszler. Mildred attended Meadow Central School and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1945 and graduated from Rapid City School of Business in 1946. She was a Legal Secretary in a law firm for five years in Rapid City SD.
Mildred was married to J. Fred Voigt in 1950 and in 1951 she became a USAF wife and full time homemaker. In 1953 her husband, an Engineer, joined CB&I Co. and they made 13 moves in the West, Mid West, North West, and Mid South US before his retirement in Memphis in 1993.
Mildred was a devoted full time homemaker which included being a 4-H club leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and school room mother activities. In numerous LCMS congregations and district offices in the Northern IL District she served as Social Ministry Chairman, Evangelism Board Member, Sunday school and VBS Teacher, Fellowship Board Member, Coordinator and secretary to District Project Compassion, and Prison Ministry Committees.
While member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Memphis TN her LWML Service included being President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Christian Growth Chairman. While in the Memphis, TN Zone: Served in offices of President, Vice President/Christian Growth Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer and Publicity/Historian. District: Project Compassion Coordinator for the Northern IL. Dist. LWML. A Member/ and Chairman of the Mid-South District LWML /Christian Growth Committee. Third Vice-President of Mid-South District LWML (Mission Projects Chairman) and First Vice- President of the Mid-South District LWML. Mildred enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, quilting and especially fishing on Lake Barkley near Cadiz, KY for the past 32 years.
She is survived by her sister Pearle Ehlert, husband J. Fred, and children Jim (Cyn), Wendy (Wayne), Brad, Jay (Cathy); grandchildren David, Gail (Phil), Erin (Kevin), Janell, Allison, Mathew, Michael, Christine, Emily; Great-grandchild, Eileen-Alannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers: Arthur, Ervin, Harold, Harry, Raymond, Robert, Kenneth and two sisters, Lillian and Esther.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 16th from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m. at Blessed Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Aaron Pingel officiating. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18th at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Memorial donations are welcomed to: Earl Dailey Scholarship Fund SDSM&T Foundation, 501E St Joe St, Rapid City, SD 57701.
Mildred’s quote: “I believe that Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, won salvation for me through His suffering, death and resurrection. I leave those who survive me the comfort of knowing that I have died in this faith and have now joined my Lord Jesus in eternal glory.”

Gail Dachtler

July 31, 1936 - October 4, 2010

Service was held:

2:00 p.m., Friday, October 8th, 2010

Gail Dachtler, 74, Whitewood, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010, at Fort Meade VA Black Hills Health Care System.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 7th from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 8, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitewood First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood with Pastor Steve Agan officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitewood Cemetery.
Gail was born July 31, 1936, at Sturgis, SD, to William G. and Elizabeth Ann (Young) Dachtler. Gail attended country elementary school and Sturgis Brown High School. He joined the United States Air Force in December of 1953 and was honorably discharged in December of 1957.
As a young man, Gail enjoyed breaking horses with his brother and traveling with his daughter. He worked as an agricultural mechanic and a forestry logger for several years.
Survivors include his daughter, Connie Dachtler of Newell, SD; his brother, Donavon (Velma) Dachtler of Whitewood, SD; and his sister, Meddill Gruidel of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Harold, Maurice, Lloyd, and Lowell.

Dana Lyle Peep

March 9, 1929 - October 3, 2010

Service was held:

11:00 Thursday October 7, 2010

Dana Lyle Peep, 81, Spearfish, died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the Sturgis Regional Health Care Center.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Mt. View Baptist Church in Spearfish.
A memorial has been established to the Hospice of the Northern Hills.
Dana was born March 9, 1929 at Aberdeen , SD, to Charles "Lynn" and Florence E. (Hughey) Peep. He grew up on the family farm near Gettysburg. He enrolled in college at Ames, IA before enlisting in the Air Force.
Dana married Nita LaNelle Batey at San Angelo, TX, on December 22, 1952.
Dana was a jet pilot over Korea. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the farm for a short time. The family moved to Chadron, NE where Dana managed the municipal airport. The family also owned and operated Peep Aerial Spraying. Dana also found time to graduate from Chadron State College. He taught high school English at Oelrichs, SD. The family moved to Alexandria, SD where Dana taught English for one year. They moved to Pierre in 1966 and Dana worked for the Department of Social Services until 1971. They moved to Spearfish and Dana accepted a position with the federal government in Kansas City. As soon as Nita finished her degree she joined him in Kansas City. In 1978 they returned to South Dakota and settled into their home in Boulder Canyon. Dana worked for the State of South Dakota as an investigator for unemployment insurance until retiring in 1992.
He spent his retirement with the grandkids, camping, hiking, fishing and boating. Dana and Nita enjoyed the snowbird life and travelling. Dana liked flea markets and collecting old knives. Dana was a member of the Elks, American Legion, VFW and the Sturgis United Methodist Church. He attended the Methodist Church in Spearfish.
In recent years the couple moved to Spearfish in order to be closer to family.
Survivors include his wife, LaNell Peep of Spearfish; sons, Stephen (Nancy) Peep of Spearfish and Clif (Laurie) Mason of Bellevue, NE; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Albert and Charles.

JERALD MERLE PFITZER

The service for Jerald Merle Pfitzer, 76, Aberdeen, will be 10:30 am, Tuesday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial will be 2:00 pm at the Java Cemetery, Java, SD. Jerald died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1-7 pm, Monday at the funeral home.

Jerald Pfitzer was born on June 27, 1931 at Mobridge, SD to Julius S. and Amelia (Fiechtner) Pfitzer. He grew up and attended school in Java. He graduated from Java High School with the class of 1949. He then attended Northern Normal where he received his teaching certificate. He taught for a brief time and worked for the county and railroad in Java. In 1970 he moved to Aberdeen where he worked for Nelson Auto and later moved to Hopkins, MN where he worked for Honeywell. He later retired in Aberdeen.

Jerald was a member of Elks Lodge 2221 in Hopkins and volunteered for the fire department in Java. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Jerry loved visiting his many friends at Kens C. Store. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared Jerald’s life are four sons, Merle (Holly Sorenson) Pfitzer, Britton; Dave (Deb) Pfitzer, Groton; Mark Pfitzer, Trinadad, CO; Danny Pfitzer, Fort Lauderdale, FL; two daughters, Donna (Rick) Cowan, Aberdeen; Cindy Pfitzer, Clear Lake; one brother, Orville (Carol) Pfitzer, Britton; one sister, Julie (James) Leibel, Aberdeen; twelve grandchildren, Kendal, Meranda (Lucas), Gaven, Drew, Derek (Danielle), Dawn (Scotty), Lance, Andy, Josh, James, Jessica, and Kristina; and two great-grandchildren, Julia and Danae and a nephew and four nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents and Anna Pfitzer.

ERVIN KRANZLER

The service for Ervin E. Kranzler, 92, Aberdeen is 10:00am, Monday, December 10, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Ervin died Tuesday, December 4, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation will be from 2-7 pm Sunday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ervin Kranzler was born on October 3, 1915 to Fred and Magdalena Kranzler. He grew up and attended school in the Roscoe area.

He married Rose Guthmiller on November 26, 1939. They farmed east of Hosmer until 1971 when they moved to Aberdeen.

He did custodial work for many years at various places.

He was cared for at home by his wife with the help of AngelKare until his hospitalization.

Grateful for having shared Ervin’s life are his wife, Rose; one son, Robert (Judy) Kranzler, Hagerstown, MD; two daughters, Elaine Schumacher, Norma Nielsen, both of Aberdeen; one sister, Ramona, Hayward, CA; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John & Elmer; and one sister, Lydia Dabbert.

BENJAMIN BENDEWALD

The service for Ben Bendewald, 81, Aberdeen, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, December 10, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Tanya Rist officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Ben died Tuesday December 4 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 2-7 pm, Sunday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Ben Bendewald son of John and Katharine (Daschendorf) Bendewald was born May 31, 1926 on the family farm near Ashley, ND. On June 20, 1948 he married Frances Retzer in Leola, SD. They had one son and three daughters, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Ben began farming on his own in the Warner area in 1957 and in 1965 moved to their present farm SW of Aberdeen.

Ben had that smile and laugh that everyone will remember and miss. Music was an important part of his life. He loved to sing, play the accordion, banjo, guitar, and organ. He and his wife of almost sixty years were exceptional dancers. He also had a love for animals, tractor pulls, his old Chevy pick-up, and his travels through many states including Alaska, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Baja, Mexico, and a tour of the White House was a highlight of his travels.

Grateful for having shared Ben’s life are his wife, Frances, Aberdeen; one son, Benny (Patty) Bendewald, O’Neil, NE; three daughters, Peggy (Steven) Gebur, Groton, SD; Betty (James) Feist, Prior Lake, MN; Donna (Wes) Graybill, Sierra Vista, AZ; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and three brothers.

HAROLD MCCORMICK

Services for Harold Leo McCormick, 94, a lifetime resident of Columbia, will be 2:00 pm, Friday, December 7, 2007 at Columbia Congregational Church with Pastor Sheila Apland-Ottenbacher officiating. Masonic services will be held at the church following the funeral services. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Harold died Monday, December 3 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Harold Leo McCormick was born September 15, 1913 to Leo & Mary Elizabeth Wylie McCormick at Columbia. He grew up in the Columbia area and attended school at the Lundzman School. It was natural that he became a farmer in this farming community.

He was an avid baseball player and fan. He coached the Columbia Amateur men’s baseball team and the girl’s softball team for many years and his teams took home many trophies. He raised prize Greyhound hunting dogs. Next to baseball he loved coyote hunting. Winters were always spent hunting and playing cards with family and friends. He was a talented musician and sang with a Barbershop Group from the Aberdeen area. Evenings were spent playing the piano, singing or playing the harmonica.

He was a member of the Columbia Congregational Church of Christ, a fifty year member of the Masons, past master of Columbia Lodge # 43 A.F. & A.M., a Scottish Rite Mason where he was on a degree team for years; he was a member of the order of the Eastern Star and the Royal Order of The Moose. He was an officer in the Columbia Commercial Club and supported community activities. He helped build the Masonic Temple, the black smith shop and the auditorium all in Columbia.

On August 8, 1956 this confirmed bachelor married Mary Hostetter Kimball and helped raise her four small children. He loved to dance and he was even known to dance till dawn at the dance hall at Tacoma Park after watching his brother Burt drive race cars at Tacoma Park Speedway. He retired from farming in 1978, then kept busy mowing the City Park.

Grateful for having shared Harold’s life are his children, Rita (Dennis) Stange, Brandon; Judy (Wilbur) Albrecht, Columbia; Lana Cuzzart, Sioux Falls; Gary Kimball, Aneta, ND; one sister, Esther Graves, Aberdeen Living Center; thirteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers; two sisters; one son-in-law; and one grandson.

MARIAN MARTENS

The service for Marian Martens, 84, Nevada, will be 2:00 pm Monday, November 26, 2007 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main. St. with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Marian died Sunday, November 18 at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Visitation will be from 9am-2pm, Monday, November 26 at the funeral home.

Marian Bradley was born on April 7, 1923 in Conde, SD to Glenn and Mary (Harwood) Bradley. This is the area where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Conde High School with the class of 1942. On August 7, 1943 she married William (Bill) Martens in Reno, NV. They lived in various places before moving to Fremont, CA in 1960. She worked at Alameda Naval Air Station. Bill died on August 1, 1982 and she continued to live in Fremont until 2001 when she moved to Gardnerville, NV.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Charron (Jack) Silveira of Gardnerville, NV, Diana Martens of Fremont, CA, Marill Hill of Fremont, CA, grandchildren, Lesleigh (Louis) Clark, William Silveira, Bradley Hill, Brianna Hill and Michael Manson, great grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Jax, Jessy and Jacob, sisters, Helen Cowie of Aberdeen, Blanche Peters of Darien, WI, Ruth Blondo of Groton, SD, Vida McNab of Oakland, CA, Joyce (Leland) Prentice of Rockford, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Marian is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, George and Robert Bradley, sister, Mary Hersey and one infant sister, niece, Jane Ann, nephew, Guy and great nephew, Scott.

EDGAR HEUPEL

The memorial service for Edgar E. Heupel, 91, Aberdeen, will be at 10:30 am, Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. with Pastor Tanya Rist officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Memorial Park in Aberdeen with military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Edgar died Friday, November 23, 2007 at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Edgar Emil Heupel was born on June 10, 1916 at Leola, SD to August G. and Maria (Klooz) Heupel. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. He entered the US Army on April 8, 1942 and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945. He then moved back to Leola where he farmed with parents until 1956 when they moved to Aberdeen. He was a handyman in Aberdeen and worked for various people and could fix most anything. On May 5, 2003 he entered the Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Edgar was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the V.F. W.

Grateful for having shared his life are his brother, Harold (Mina) Heupel of Aberdeen, sisters, Alma Vilhauer of Polson, MT, Viola Smolnisky, Leola, SD; Annie Quinn, Rapid City; and Rene Lightfoot of Watertown, SD and many nieces and nephews.

Edgar is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Olivia Young, Lillian Rath, Irma Muhlbeier, and Vivian Snow
