IRENE GIMBLE

The graveside service for Irene Gimble, 89 of Scottsboro, AL, formerly of Aberdeen, will be at 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor John Farden officiating. Visitation will be from 11am until 2pm at the Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Irene died Thursday, January 31, 2008 in Alabama.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home of Aberdeen, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Colestock was born at Hecla, SD on September 10, 1918 to Frank & Anne (Kenny) Colestock. She grew up on a farm near Hecla and graduated from Hecla High School with the Class of 1936.

On June 10, 1944, Irene married Richard Gimble at Webster, SD. Together they had two daughters. Richard died on October 28, 1999 at Aberdeen, SD.

Irene worked as the head housekeeper at the Holiday Inn for nine years and was honored as one of the Top Ten House Keepers in a chain of 1,700 Holiday Inns. She also worked at the front desk of the Ward Hotel for seventeen years.

She was an active member of the Eagle’s and a life member of the American Legion Auxillary. Irene enjoyed dancing, sewing, walking, and bird watching. She was a great example as a mom and grandma to her family and worked to provide the best for her children, whom she loved to visit often.

Grateful for having shared Irene’s life are two daughters, Diane Gimble, New Orleans, LA; Carol Reimer, Scottsboro, AL; three sisters, Dorothy Gerken, Aberdeen; Loretta Pfutzenreuter, Oakes, ND; Viola Shilhanek, Aberdeen, SD; one brother, Bernard (Claudette) Colestock, Hecla, SD; four grandchildren, Lindsay Swenson, Denver, CO; Quentin Hunstad, Washington D.C.; Tonia Hunstad, Denver, CO; and Dawn Reimer, Boston, MA; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Green and Alex Swenson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anne and her husband, Richard.

CHERYL ALENE (DAHME) LADNER

The service for Cheryl A. (Dahme) Ladner, 56, Aberdeen, will be 1:30pm, Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Following a courageous battle with cancer, Cheryl died Friday, February 1, 2008 at her home.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm Monday with family present from 5-7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Cheryl Alene Dahme was born March 12, 1951 to Howard and Arlowine (Fuhrman) Dahme in Aberdeen, SD. Cheryl was baptized and confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Aberdeen. She grew up in Aberdeen attending Aberdeen Public Schools, graduating from Aberdeen Central in 1969. Later she attended Northern State University.

On March 9, 1973 Cheryl married Clark Ladner in Aberdeen. Cheryl had resided in Sioux Falls for the past fifteen years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Sioux Falls. The past few years she volunteered at Good Shepherd Center of Sioux Falls. Cheryl loved life, music and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Grateful for having shared Cheryl’s life are her parents, Howard & Arlowine Dahme, Aberdeen; three daughters, Melissa Ladner, Dana Point, CA; Jennifer Ramos, Vista, CA; Michelle Ladner, Aberdeen; one granddaughter, Rylee Ramos; brother, Gary (Molly) Dahme; three nieces, Sara Dahme; Lisa (Peter) Danielson, and children, Garrion & Alyssa; Betsy Dahme, and child, Noah; and nephew, Shawn Hansen.

The family prefers memorials to North Plains Hospice, Aberdeen and Good Shepherd Center, Sioux Falls, SD.

DUANE C. JOHNSON

The service for Duane C. Johnson, 75, Aberdeen, will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Duane died Monday, January 21, 2008 as a result of a tragic automobile accident near Rochester, MN.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Duane was born on November 16, 1932 in Madison, SD, to Oscar P. and Vera Mae (Hollingsworth) Johnson. He graduated from General Beadle High School, Class of 1951. He entered the US Army on December 2, 1952 and was honorably discharged on November 9, 1954. Following his discharge he attended General Beadle College in Madison.

Duane moved to Aberdeen in 1962 and on April 20, 1963 he married Marlys Hanson in Aberdeen. Duane was employed for forty years by Frank Scepaniak of Aberdeen. He still worked at the time of his death.

Duane was a member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed NASCAR, reading, and especially loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.

Grateful for having shared Duane’s life are his wife Marlys, Aberdeen; daughter, Pamela (Richard) Leafgreen, Racine, WI; son, Terry (Rachel) Johnson, Brownstown, MI; daughter, Susan ( Lance) Cutler, Maize, KS; brother, Doug (Burdene) Johnson, Madison, SD; sister, Glennys (Tom) McCool, Madison, SD; grandchildren, Derek, Jordin, Chelsea, Alex Leafgreen; Philip, David, Grace, Emma, Matthew Johnson; Gage & Ella Cutler.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

GENEVIEVE KIENOW

The service for Genevieve “Gen” Kienow, 88, Warner, SD will be 2:00pm, Monday, February 4, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Joanne Nagele officiating. Genevieve died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Mother Joseph Manor.

Visitation will be from 1-5pm, Sunday with family present from 1-3pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Genevieve “Gen” Nieuwsma was born May 31, 1919. She was the sixth of ten children of Ed and Jane Nieuwsma of Herreid, SD. She attended a country school in Emmons County, ND. After completing school, Gen and her sister, Agnes, moved to Washington state to work. A few years later, she returned to Aberdeen and worked at the Sears store until she met Merlin Kienow. They were married in 1944 and moved to the family farm west of Warner where they made their life together farming and raising their five children. In 1981 they moved to Warner. Merlin passed away September 18, 1998.

Gen was active in the women’s group at St. John Lutheran Church in Warner where she was a member of the Saturday morning circle. Gen was also a member of the Aberdeen Moose Lodge and the Warner Area Senior Citizens. She enjoyed baking, and is fondly remembered for her pumpkin pie, butterhorns, holiday meals, and Sunday roast beef dinners for her family after church. Gen was an avid Twins fan. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Although most of her time was spent close to home, Gen enjoyed attending the grain dealer conventions every winter with Merlin. A trip to Portugal in 1989 was a memorable occasion for them.

Gen spent the last eight years of her life living at Nano Nagel Village and Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo with the other residents. She received kidney dialysis three times each week, and her caregivers at the nursing home and the dialysis unit became very special friends

Grateful for having shared Gen’s life are her five children, Connie (Russ) Myers, Castle Rock, CO; Keith (Priscilla) Kienow, Omaha, NE; Leon (Deb) Kienow, Maryville, TN; Randy (Karen) Kienow, Aberdeen; Robert “Bob” (Sharon) Kienow, Mansfield; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon) Bunt; Scott (Shelley) Kienow; Chad Kienow; Cory Kienow; Tonya (Joshua) vanTol; Bryan Kienow; Jessica (Jeff) Hartman; Amy Kienow; Tyler (Kate) Kienow; Spencer Kienow; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Bunt; Matthew, Thomas, Grace Kienow; and MaKennah Kienow; two sisters, Katherine Kienow and Celia VanderVorste; one brother-in-law, Robert Brenner.

She is preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Bonnie; grandson, Jason; four sisters, Annie (Henry) Vermeer; Sadie (William) Plantage; Ella (Albert) Bennet; Agnes Brenner; three brothers, Peter (Genevieve) Nieuwsma; Cornie (Rena) Nieuwsma; Frank Elmer (Ethel) Nieuwsma; brothers-in-law, Gene VanderVorste and John Kienow.

Family would prefer memorials to St. John Lutheran Church or the Debt Retirement Fund.

LILLIAN SCHMIERER

The service for Lillian Schmierer, Aberdeen, will be 1:00pm, Saturday, February 2, 2008 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Burial will be 4:00pm at Ellendale Cemetery in Ellendale, ND. Lillian passed peacefully Monday, January 28 at her home in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 5-7pm, Friday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Lillian was born in Forbes, North Dakota to Gottfried and Minnie (Kerschman) Benderwald. She moved to Ellendale, North Dakota with her family in 1938. There she attended and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1945. After spending a year in Pittsburgh, she returned to Ellendale and went to work for The Dunphy Company.

In 1950 she married Walter Schmierer and moved to farm East of Ellendale. In 1956 they gave up farming and moved to Ellendale and bought the Ellendale Hotel and Café. In 1964 she moved to Aberdeen and attended The Aberdeen Business School of Commerce. After graduating she went to work for Brown County Co-op and also worked for the Johnston Culvert Company. She left there and moved to Philadelphia to manage an Apartment Complex. Returning to Aberdeen in 1980 she was employed at University as an Office Manager in the Development Office. After retiring from there in 1992 she enjoyed traveling with and supporting her grandchildren Liza & Jeffrey with their swimming and soccer.

Grateful for having shared Lillian’s life are her son, Ken, Ellendale; three daughters, Cheryl (Bruce) Fischer, Sioux Falls; Pamala Schmierer, San Diego; June Salwei, Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Adrian(Sarah) Young, Minneapolis; Jason Grote, Minneapolis; Nathan Cage, San Diego; Liza Salwei, Laramie, WY; and Jeffrey Salwei, Aberdeen; and three great-grandchildren, Nyjah Cage, Los Angeles; and Micah & Samuel Young, Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; only brother, Ivan; only sister Verdean; beloved son, Alan; and very dear pet, Bailey.

IRENE C. NOSTRUD

Services for Irene Nostrud, 93, are 10 am, Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Irene died on Tuesday, January 29 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.

Visitation: 1-7 pm, Friday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Irene Fellers was born to Thurlow & Nellie (Allen) Fellers on July 18, 1914 at Sheridan Lake, CO. As a small child she moved to South Dakota where she attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1934.

On June 18, 1940 Irene married George “Jud” Nostrud. She worked at Malchow’s, Phil Lere Interior Planning and The Finishing Touch as an Interior Decorator and drapery seamstress.

In her free time Irene enjoyed china painting, knitting, and needlepoint.

Grateful for having shared Irene’s life are her son, Douglas (Renae) Nostrud, Aberdeen; sister, Lois Fossum; granddaughters, Kierstin (John) Bittel, Topeka, KS; Meegan (Colby) Dodson, Independence, KS; great-grandchildren, Drew & Bret Bittel; and Blair Dodson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jud; brothers, Allen & Orville Fellers; and great-granddaughter, Liv Marie Dodson.

CLAUDE L. (JACK) MARZENELL, III

The memorial service for Claude L. (Jack) Marzenell, III, 57, will be 3:00pm, Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home with Pastor Jais Tinglund officiating. A memorial service will be held at Taxxi Hyatt Hotel in downtown Minneapolis from 5-8pm on Friday. Jack died Friday, January 25 at his home in Excelsior, MN.

Claude (Jack) Marzenell was born to Claude & Joyce (Ernst) Marzenell on January 19, 1951 at Aberdeen, SD. He attended Aberdeen Central High School where he was involved on the track & football team. After graduating from high school Jack went on to attend Northern State University where he majored in History. Jack served in the US Army Reserves for eight years. He worked as a Sales Rep for Graff Californiawear for twenty-eight years.

Jack was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching old movies, reading about History and he had a great sense of humor. Jack’s children were the love of his life.

Grateful for having shared Jack’s life are his father, Claude “Buzz” Marzenell, Jr, San Bentio, TX; children, Sam Marzenell, Portland, ME; Justin (Jackie) Marzenell, FL; Steve Rohr, CA; Jeff Rohr, CA; Marcella Marzenell, CA; and Nissa Rohr, Minneapolis, MN; four brothers, Timothy (Julia) Marzenell, Aberdeen; Steve Marzenell, Aberdeen; Guy (Kathy) Marzenell, Aberdeen; Todd (Nikki) Marzenell, Hermosa, SD; three sisters, Peggy (Joe) Burton, Omaha, NE; Kay (Tom) Hagemann, Rapid City; Becky (Doug) Tarver, Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Sam, Thomas, Benjamin Rohr; and Tyrece & JaNissa Rohr.

He is preceded in death by his mother and maternal & paternal grandparents.

FRIEDA (BENDER) WEISZ

The funeral service for Frieda (Bender) Weisz, 90, of 2222 3rd Ave. SE, Aberdeen, will be at 11:00am, on her 91st birthday, Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1732 S. Main St. The Reverend Tanya Rist will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Frieda passed away Saturday, January 26, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Visitation is 1-7pm Monday, January 28, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with family present from 5-7pm and a prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Frieda Bender was born on January 29, 1917 in Ashley, ND to George and Philipina (Rueb) Bender. She attended elementary school in rural Ashley, ND.

Frieda married Herbert J. Weisz on October 6, 1935, at Salem Lutheran Church near Hosmer, SD. They farmed for 13 years on the family farm. In 1948, they moved to Leola and lived there until they moved to Aberdeen in 1966. Frieda was employed at the Holiday Inn, in Aberdeen, until she retired in 1990. She then became a Foster Grandparent where she displayed her love for children for many years.

Frieda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Frieda enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing. She also liked gardening, cooking and baking.

Grateful for having shared Frieda’s life are her son, Clifford (Loretta) Weisz, of Auburn, WA; two daughters, Lorentina (Leo) Rogers, of Plymouth, MN, and Donna Lantgen, of Arvada, CO; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one sister, Anna Bender.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 1992, her parents, nine brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or your favorite charity.

MARJORIE MAY (WICKERSHAM) LANE

The memorial service for Marjorie May (Wickersham) Lane, 86, of Aberdeen, will be 10 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2008, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Aberdeen with Pastor Ross Prevo officiating. Marjorie died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Marjorie May Wickersham was born on March 21, 1921 to James “LeRoy” and Vesta (Chiles) Wickersham at Gettysburg, SD. She was raised and educated in the Gettysburg area and Missouri. She attended the Sioux Falls School of Cosmetology and received her beautician’s license.

Marjorie married Dale N. Lane on August 13, 1940 at Sioux Falls, SD. They moved to Aberdeen in 1957 when Dale started Lane’s NRG Feeds, Inc. Dale operated the business until he retired in 1981. Marjorie and Dale continued to make Aberdeen their home. Dale died on August 4, 2004.

Marjorie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Aberdeen. She voluntarily taught braille reading to children at the SD School for the Visually Impaired for several years. She loved reading as well as writing poetry. Marjorie also enjoyed knitting, quilting and all sewing hobbies, and flower gardening.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children; Sharon Cleveland and David Lane, both of Aberdeen, Jim (Melodee) Lane of Groton, SD, and Alan (Mary) Lane of Wilson, NC; eleven grandchildren, Becky (Shannon) Stucker of Aberdeen, Wayne Cleveland of Aberdeen, Jamie (Matt) Osborne of Aberdeen, C.J. Lane of Aberdeen, Lincoln, Logan and Marshall Lane, all of Groton, Ryan Houdek of Wisconsin, Jennifer McLees of Stantonsburg, NC, Brett McLees of Raleigh, NC and Michelle McLees of Wilson, NC; nine great grandchildren: Keith, Kody and Krystyna Stucker of Aberdeen, Faith and Destiny Cleveland of Leola, Matthew Emory of Wilson, NC, Ashley and Anthony Houdek of Milwaukee, WI, Cayton Thompson of Stantonsburg, NC, and Kennedy Osborne of Aberdeen; one great-great granddaughter, Trinity Cleveland of Leola; one brother, Gene Wickersham of Rapid City, SD; and sisters Nadine Sievers of Rapid City.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Vesta; her husband, Dale Lane; one brother, Buck Wickersham; one sister, Jackie (Ron) Jarrett and one great grandson, Shane Stucker.
