OSCAR E. ISAAK

The service for Oscar E. Isaak, 98, Aberdeen, will be 11:00am, Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, with Pastor Ross Prevo officiating. Burial will be 3:00pm at the Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery, near Kulm, ND. Oscar died Friday, March 7 at Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen.

Oscar Emil Isaak was born on May 19, 1909 at Kulm, ND to Gottfried & Caroline (Liechner) Isaak. He received his education at Kulm.

On July 16, 1935 Oscar married Lenora Meidinger at Leola, SD. During those years Oscar and a friend Willie Weller engineered, manufactured, and sold puffed (exploded) wheat. Willie produced it, Lenora sacked it and Oscar loaded it into his model “A” and sold it to area farmers and stores. In 1951 Oscar and Lenora moved to Aberdeen where they made their home and raised their two children. He worked as a district representative for Harper Janitorial Supplies. Oscar was always a sales person who enjoyed meeting and dealing with people all over the region.

Oscar was known for his unique sense of humor. In his free time Oscar enjoyed reading, traveling, and music, especially playing the piano and guitar. Above all he loved spending time with his grandkids. His wife of seventy-two years passed away on August 17, 2007.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Mother Joseph Manor for their loving care throughout the years.

Grateful for having shared Oscar’s life are his children, Arnie (Mona) Isaak, Aberdeen; Donna (Ron) Brown, Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren, Lee (Toni) Isaak, Sioux Falls; Scott (Laura) Isaak, Aberdeen; Debbie (Randy) Simon, Marthas Vinyard, MA; Roger (Marian) Brown, Houston, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Sierra & ShyAnn Simon; Ashley & Jamie Brown.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, seven brothers; and two sisters.

MILDRED B. WALTH

The funeral service for Mildred B. Walth, 80, of Aberdeen, will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor D.T. Rawerts officiating. Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery, Roscoe, SD at 2:00 pm.

Visitation is from 1-8 pm, with family present from 5-8 pm and a prayer service at 8 pm. Friday, March 7, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

Mildred Bernice Werre was born on February 7, 1928 to Phillip & Katie (Geist) Werre near Hosmer, SD in Edmunds County. She was baptized at Schumacher Lutheran Church near Hosmer and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Roscoe in July of 1943. Mildred graduated from Roscoe High School with the Class of 1946. Mildred attended Northern State College where she received her teaching degree. She then attended Presentation School of Nursing, graduating in May of 1973 with an associate degree in Nursing.

On June 6, 1948, Mildred married Otto Henry Walth at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Roscoe. She lived in Roscoe until 1975 when she moved to Ipswich. In 1977, she moved to Country Village in Aberdeen where she was currently living.

Mildred worked at various nursing homes and hospitals including Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen Living Center, Dakota Midland, and Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Mildred was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved gardening and raising flowers. Mildred also enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and playing games with her family. Mildred especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Mildred’s life are her children, Ronald (Darlene) Walth, Austin, MN; Kathy (Roger) Rands, Mitchell, SD; David Walth, Aberdeen; Deb (Tim) DeWitt, Brookings, SD; Jeanne (Ron) Foos, Sioux Falls, SD; eleven grandchildren, two step- grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren; three sisters: Leona Morrison, Leola, SD, Phyllis (Calvin) Huber, Huron, SD, Janice (Delmer) Schock, Bowdle, SD; and several nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Philip & Katie Werre.

EARL SHANLEY

The service for Earl Shanley, 84, Aberdeen will be 2:00pm, Thursday, March 6, 2008 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Earl died on March 1, 2008, due to complications of a stroke at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving wife, Bernice and family by his side.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Wednesday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Family will be present between 4-6pm.

Earl Arnold Shanley was born May 31, 1923, at the Shanley Farm near Mansfield, SD to Earnest and Ella (LeFevre) Shanley. He attended Old Glory Country School in New Hope Township. On April 16, 1961 he married Bernice (Heupel) Agee. Throughout the years Earl farmed, worked at Athol’s Grain Elevator, and drove for Household Moving and Storage. He retired from Hyman Freight in 1981 after twenty four years of service.

Earl participated in various community and church activities over the years, but by far his favorite time was having coffee with his buddies. Earl enjoyed being with family and friends and was always ready to go fishing, play cards, take drives in the country or baking homemade angel food cake. Earl always said “If you like a nice white cake leave the oven light on while baking.” Ha!

Grateful for having shared Earl’s life are his wife, Bernice, Aberdeen; children, Jane (Shanley) Bahr, Portland, OR; Gail (John) McGee, Bowman, ND; Kip (Laura) Agee, Broken Arrow, OK; Gene (Kathy) Agee, Broken Arrow, OK; Sheila Agee and LuAnn Eidsness, Brandon, SD; grandchildren, Nathan and Mattie McGee; Chris Agee; Kim (Burke) Agee; & Jodi Agee; Bobby and Michael Agee. Two sisters, Lerna (Cliff) Keddie, Bella Vista, AK; Mae (Harold) Grandy, Yuma, AZ; two brothers, Tom (Bernice) Shanley, DesMoines, IA; and Lawrence (Shirley) Shanley, Mansfield, SD, ten Great Grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earnest & Ella Shanley; two brothers, Dennis Shanley; and an infant brother.

DENNIS GIBLIN

The service for Dennis Giblin, 51, Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm, Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Dennis died Thursday, February 28 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation will be from 1-7 pm, Wednesday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen with family present from 5-7 pm.

Dennis Giblin was born on August 13, 1956 at Pontiac, MI to Verlin and Dorothy (Sizemore) Giblin. The family moved to Mitchell, SD and later to Parkston where he graduated from high school with the class of 1975. He worked for his dad for several years and other various jobs. On August 26, 1995 he married Diane “Doc” Dockter at Aberdeen. They made their home in Aberdeen where he worked for Twin City Fan, Department of Transportation and Speedee Delivery. At the time of his death he was one of the owners of B&D Painting and Sandblasting.

He was an avid Kansas City Chief Fan and loved to watch the NFL. He also loved shooting pool, hunting and horse racing.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Diane “Doc” Giblin, Aberdeen, three sons, Jon Giblin, Sioux Falls, SD, Jesse Giblin, Vermillion, SD, Justin Giblin, Minneapolis, MN, daughter, Sara Giblin, Yankton, SD, mother, Dorothy Giblin, Parkston, SD, brothers, Mike Giblin, Mitchell, SD, Kevin Giblin, Parkston, SD, his best friend, Mark Boddicker and his dog, Snickers.

Dennis is preceded in death by his father, Verlin Giblin and sister, Cuma Giblin.

ALLAN WEIFENBACH

The service for Allan Weifenbach, 68, Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm, Monday, March 3, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, with Captain Dave Mowers officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Allan died Thursday, February 28 at ManorCare.

Visitation will be from 1-6pm, Sunday with family present from 4-6pm at the funeral home.

Allan Weifenbach was born on April 24, 1939 at Columbia, SD to Henry & Eva (Severson) Weifenbach. He attended Columbia High School until 10th grade when he had to leave and take over running the farm.

On June 11, 1962 Allan married Ruth Voeller at Columbia. In 1965 they moved to Aberdeen where Allan began working for Cass-Clay until 1977. He then began working as a maintenance worker at St. Luke’s Hospital and Presentation College. Soon after he started working for Mitzel’s Trucking until his retirement in 2000. In November of 2000 he was diagnosed with cancer.

Allan loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and having coffee at the Starlite. Allan enjoyed being a volunteer fireman for twenty-five years. He especially loved his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Allan’s life are his daughter, Dawn (Lee) Bird, Canton, SD; grandchildren, Alan Salwei, Sioux Falls, SD; Tifani Salwei, Aberdeen; Stefani Salwei, Canton; great-grandson, Bryden Salwei; two brothers, Kenneth Weifenbach, Hot Springs, SD; Roger (JoAnn) Weifenbach, Aberdeen; five sisters, Geraldine Bremmon, Britton, SD; Carol Johnson, Gillette, WY; Karen Day, Aberdeen; Norma (John) Taylor, Moorehead, MN; Kathy (Glen) Heim, Gillette, WY; ex-wife, Ruth Weifenbach; special friend, Dianne Furman; several nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents, Henry & Eva Weifenbach; two sisters, Marge Lamoureuux, Delores Selzler; four brothers, Dwayne, Donald, Gerald, & Edward Weifenbach.

NADENE HENLEY

The service for Nadene Henley, 75, Aberdeen, will be 10:00am, Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Nadene died Tuesday, February 26 in Wichita, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 1-8 pm, Sunday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen with family present from 5-8.

Nadene Bierman was born on January 6, 1933 at Aberdeen, SD to Herman & Dorothy (Smith) Bierman. She grew up and attended rural school in Mansfield, SD. Nadene was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1950. Nadene attended Northern State Teachers College where she received her Bachelors Degree in high school education with honors. She taught at Britton High School for two years.

On June 18, 1955 she married Gerald Henley at Mansfield, SD. In 1956 they moved to Aberdeen. She worked as a teacher, an office manager for Henley Plumbing & Heating, Howard Hedger lunch program, & South Dakota Student Loan until she retired in 2005.

Nadene was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the LWML. She enjoyed reading, crosswords and traveling. Nadene loved her family, church, & friends and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Above all she loved her Lord and was a woman of excellence. Nadene always had to have her Tuesday morning coffee with her dear and longtime friends for over fifty years.

Grateful for having shared Nadene’s life are her husband, Gerald Henley, Aberdeen; three sons, Joel (Betsy) Henley, Plymouth, MN; David (Brenda) Henley, Centennial, CO; Paul (DeAnn) Henley, Pflugerville, TX; mother, Dorothy Bierman, Aberdeen; grandchildren, Megan, Allison, Scott, Shana, Erica, Victoria, Micah, Katrina; and one sister, Rebecca (Mike) Jeschke, Aberdeen.

She is preceded in death by her father, Herman Bierman.

STEVEN C. BERNDT

The memorial service for Steven C. Berndt, 53, of Toronto, Canada, will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Steven died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at his home in Toronto.

Steven Charles Berndt was born on May 31, 1954 at Aberdeen, SD to Charles & Margie (Erbe) Berndt. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1972. In 1976 he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Jamestown, ND then in Gloscow, MT where he worked for twenty years. He married Penny Luiken.

Later he moved to Toronto, Canada where he met and married his best friend Janet O’Hara.

Steven loved the outdoors, hunting with his dad, trapping, fishing, and sports. He had a witty sense of humor. Steven will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared Steven’s life are his mother, Margie Berndt, Aberdeen; two sons, Austin Berndt, Minot, ND; Brandon Berndt, Minot, ND; four brothers, Rick (Lita) Berndt, Virginia Beach, VA; Ron (Lori) Berndt, Bismarck, ND; Scott (Barb) Berndt, Castle Rock, CO; & Ken Berndt, Aberdeen.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Berndt.

ERVIN J. GORNE

The funeral service for Ervin J. Gorne, 84 of Aberdeen will be 11:00 am, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. D.T. Rawerts officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am, Tuesday at the church. Ervin died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home 1111 S. Main St, is in charge of arrangements.

Ervin John Gorne was born October 16, 1923 to Jacob and Elsie M. (Walz) Gorne at rural Roscoe, SD. He was baptized at St. Jacobus Lutheran Church, Cloyd Valley Township, by Pastor Scherf on November 18, 1923. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bowdle, SD on April 10, 1939 by Pastor Albrecht. He attended rural grade school near his parent’s farm. Ervin graduated from Bowdle High School in 1943. Ervin enlisted in the United States Navy in WWII. He spent time in the Pacific region. He then re-enlisted during the Korean War. Ervin returned to the farm for a few years, then went to Minneapolis, where he was employed. In 1992, Ervin retired and moved to Aberdeen.

Ervin enjoyed baseball, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Grateful for have shared Ervin’s life are his brother Orville (Phyllis) Gorne of Aberdeen, two sisters, Lorraine Baer of Bowdle, and Janice (Larry) Dyer of Grand Island, NE, one nephew,Kevin J. Gorne of Aberdeen, one niece Kari (Kerry) Mertz of Arlington, SD one great nephew Derek Mertz and one great niece, Taylor Mertz.

Ervin is preceeded in death by his parents, Jacob and Elsie and one brother-in-law Erwin Baer .

JERRY PIERSON

Jerome (Jerry) Pierson, age 66, of Breezy Point, MN passed away Friday, February 22, 2008 at his home. Visitation will be Thursday, February 28 from 3 to 6 PM at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, followed by a reception at the R&A Bar.

Jerry was born December 31, 1941, in Britton, SD to Carl and Leone Pierson. A business owner, Jerry spent most of his life in the bar and restaurant business. He formerly owned the Commander Bar in Breezy Point from 1978 to 1981 and the Bar-n Restaurant and Bar in Aberdeen, SD. He currently owned the R&A Bar in Aberdeen and was actively involved with the development and management of the Birchwood Restaurant in Breezy Point.

Jerry lived a full life, exhibiting an entrepreneurial spirit in everything he did. He was a participant in life rather than a spectator and was known to take risks and create opportunities for himself and others. He loved to fish, play cards, and travel. He had a huge heart and will missed by all who knew and loved him.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Clarice Blaeser-Pierson; children: Tammy Quist of Estes Park, Colorado, Steve Pierson (Diane) of Fort Collins, Colorado, Wayne Pierson (Joy) of Murfreesborough, Tennessee, Debbie Bruce (Harold) of Grand Forks, North Dakota; former wife, Faye Roy of Aberdeen, Justin Pierson of Aberdeen; stepchildren: Stephanie Murray (Mike), Steve Blaeser (Lori Swanstrom), Larry Blaeser, Don Blaeser, all of the Pequot Lakes, MN area, Dave Blaeser (Cathy) of Lakeville, MN; sister, Carla Petersen of St. Paul, MN; niece, Anne Petersen of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren; and special friend, Connie Skatvold of Aberdeen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
