NOREEN E. TIMIAN

Memorial service for Noreen E. Timian, 78, Aberdeen, will be 10:00am, Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Our Savior Lutheran with Pastor Jais Tinglund officiating. Noreen died Wednesday, September 24, at her home.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Noreen Thorfinnson was born December 13, 1929 in Mountain, ND to Arni & Sigridur Thorfinnson. She attended grade school and graduated high school in Mountain. Noreen married Harvey Hartje in 1948. They made their home in Crystal, ND where they owned and operated the Corner Bar. Noreen moved to Seattle, WA in 1966 where she worked for Boeing as a draftsman. She married Richard Timian in 1968 and the couple made their home in Haleiwa, Hawaii where Richard was employed as a millwright. The couple retired to Aberdeen in 1988 and resided at Richmond Lake.

Noreen always enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. She and her husband traveled widely throughout the U.S. taking time to visit small communities and get to know people on a personal basis. She believed in reaching out to those less fortunate than herself with friendship, love and support. Her family learned from her example, life is far richer when helping and giving to others. Throughout many personal and financial challenges, she maintained her strength. She dedicated her life to raising her five children and to supporting her husband who suffered from an extended illness in later years. She found great enjoyment in the time she spent with her family and loved the holidays when she could have more of them close by.

Grateful for having shared Noreen’s life are her children, Harvey Hartje, Duvall, WA; Bruce (Vicki) Hartje, Aberdeen; Sheran Hartje, Aberdeen; Kimberly Fiala, Duvall, WA; Lloyd (Janet) Hartje, Woodbury, MN; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Elmer, Clarence, Jack, Thelma, Stella, Lynn, Fred, Sydney, and Dick.

CLAUDE "BUTCH" F. GIROUX

The service for Claude “Butch” F. Giroux, 69, Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm, Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen with The Rev. Lies Campbell officiating. Burial will be at 1:00pm Monday at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City. Butch died Monday, September 22, at his home.

Visitation will be from 2-8pm, Friday at the funeral home.

Claude “Butch” Giroux was born June 25, 1939 in Rosebud, SD on Rosebud Sioux Reservation to Claude & Agnes (Fox) Giroux. His mother and her nine children moved to Lemmon, SD, when he was a child. He attended school and graduated in Lemmon, SD.

Butch enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas in the Korean War for over one year. He served hauling supplies.

Butch went to school for heavy machinery and worked construction for many years.

Butch moved to Aberdeen, SD in the late 1970’s. He began to work for Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service in the Department of Office Services.

Butch raised his two children and was a dedicated grandfather.

Grateful for having shared Butch’s life are his children, Colette Marie Giroux, Aberdeen; Dustin Claude Giroux, St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Aliyah Raine Giroux, Calvin Zaine Giroux, Billie Jean Giroux, Dustee Jaine Giroux; brothers, George Giroux; James (Karen) Giroux; Patrick Giroux; Larry Giroux; sisters, Claudette (Milton) Schott; Ada (Frankie) Klusner; Barbara Yellow; and Deborah Giroux.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two nephews.

ALANNAH RILEE MEANEY

Alannah Rilee Meaney was born into heaven on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. There will be a private family burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Grateful for having shared in the hope of Alannah’s life are her mother and father, Diana Towsley and Phillip Meaney, Jr., grandparents, Ailene and Chris Pearce (Zebulon, NC), David and Carolyn Towsley (Cocoa, FL), Phil and Carole Meaney (Globe, AZ).

Alannah is loved and missed dearly by her family.

HARRIET LAVONNE “BONNIE” GARDNER

The service for Harriet LaVonne “Bonnie” Gardner, 80, Aberdeen, will be 10:00am, Friday, September 26, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Bonnie died Sunday, September 21 at Redfield, SD.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Thursday at the funeral home.

Harriet LaVonne Quinn was born May 8, 1928 to Ralph & Harriet (Angerhofer) Quinn at Aberdeen. She attended school at Central High School, graduating in 1946. After she graduated, she began working for Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. Soon after she met Kenneth Eugene Gardner and they were married on February 21, 1948. Together they raised three sons: Craig, Gary, and Kirby. Bonnie retired from the phone company on June 29, 1981.

Kenneth & Bonnie enjoyed spending time at the lake cabin. Bonnie continued to make her home in Aberdeen after Kenneth passed away in 1994.

Bonnie loved ice skating & roller skating. She enjoyed bowling with her telephone company league.

Grateful for having shared Bonnie’s life are her sons, Craig Gardner; Gary Gardner; Kirby Gardner; grandchildren, Brandi, Chad, Scott, & Trent; great grandchildren, Paige & Gavin Pfeiffer.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Ray Quinn; two sisters, Marvel Gabert & Margie Schmidt.

FLOYD ZIMMERMAN

Services for Floyd Zimmerman, 81, Aberdeen, are 2:00pm, Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1732 S. Main St., with Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Floyd died Saturday, September 20, at ManorCare Health Services.

Visitation: 1-7pm Monday, September 22, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., with family present from 5-7pm and a prayer service at 7pm.

Floyd Zimmerman was born on September 21, 1926, to Gottlieb and Matilda (Lutz) Zimmerman at Artas, SD. He grew up and attended school in Artas. Floyd worked for the Soo Line Rail Road from 1942 until 1946. He then moved to Aberdeen in 1946 and worked for Swift & Co. until 1951.

Floyd married Martha Scherle on September 5, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They moved to Forbes, ND and Floyd was drafted in to the Army in January, 1952. He was honorably discharged in June of that year for health reasons. Floyd and Martha moved back to Aberdeen where Floyd began a career at Aberdeen Glass in 1952. The company changed its name to House of Glass in 1987, and Floyd continued to work there until retiring in 1993. He then worked part time as a delivery person and enjoyed staying active.

Floyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping and hunting. A favorite pas time of his was metal detecting, which he would often do to help others find lost items. Floyd liked playing Cribbage. Floyd and Martha cherished their time together with friends on bus trips to casinos. Morning coffee group at McDonald’s also became a treasured time to spend with friends. Martha and Floyd celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Floyd truly loved time with friends and family, and especially loved time spent with his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Floyd’s life are his wife, Martha, son, Kim (Holly) Zimmerman, Aberdeen, two grandchildren, MacKenzie and Kaden Zimmerman, and four sisters: Ella Holsworth, Eureka, SD, and Delores Fischer, Diane (Loren) Hassebroek, and Martha (Mel) Moulner, all of Aberdeen.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents.

CYNTHIA (CYNDI) KLEIN

Memorial service for Cynthia (Cyndi) Klein, 50, Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm, Friday, September 26, 2008 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen, with Father Edward Pierce officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Cyndi died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at her home in Aberdeen.

WILLIS GLAESMAN

Services for Willis “Willie” Glaesman, 81, of Aberdeen, are 2:00pm, Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Faith United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Military Honors by Sydney L. Smith Post #24. Willis died Wednesday, September 17, at his home.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. is in charge of arrangements.

Willis “Willie” Glaesman was born May 16, 1927, on his family’s farm near Ashley, ND to John & Mary (Stern) Glaesman. He grew up and attended country school near the farm. Willie worked on his mothers farm for four years and then for Oscar Rau & Henry Eslinger on their farms, before moving to Wishek, ND where he married Irene Bader.

Willie & Irene stayed and worked on his father-in-laws farm for one year and was drafted into the Army during the Korean War.

Willie was discharged from the Army on December 9, 1955. He and Irene moved back to Aberdeen where Willie began working as a cook at the Alonzo Ward Hotel. He also worked for Coca-Cola and Northern Wholesale. In 1975, Willie began working for the City of Aberdeen, Parks & Rec. Department. Willie’s greatest joy was having played a part in the building of Story Book Land at Wylie Park.

Willie & Irene were members of Faith United Methodist Church for twenty-seven years and First United Methodist Church for the past twenty years.

Willie loved traveling to see his family, he cherished the time he spent with his children & grandchildren. They were a true blessing to Willie

Grateful for having shared Willie’s life are his wife, Irene (Bader), Aberdeen; children, Sandie (Jeff) Hince, Coon Rapids, MN; Rod (Becky) Glaesman, Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren, Donelle Hince; Kelly (Jonathon) Kraft; and Emily Hince; great grandchildren, Austin Hince, Mary Petyo; sister, Viola Heinrich, Aberdeen; and many nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wilmar, Herbert & Edwin; sisters, Irma, Ella, & Ida.

LUELLA ANDERSON

The service for Luella Anderson, 99, Aberdeen will be 1:00pm, Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Erickson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Luella died Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Luella Ann Davidson was born to Charles & Alvina Davidson on March 15, 1909 at Foster, NE. On April 4, 1934, Luella married Quinten L. Anderson at Faith United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. She sold cosmetics at Owin Angels and Herbergers for many years.

Luella was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

The family would like to say thank you to Aberdeen Health & Rehab for all their care while Luella was there.

Grateful for having shared Luella’s life are her nieces & nephews, Mrs. Tom (Linda) Van Scoy, Aberdeen; Pat Oban, Sturgis; Ruth Anderson, Big Lake, MN; Ron (Darlene) Anderson, Plymouth, MN; and Jackie (Bruce) Allen, Rapid City; Jon Anderson, Guam; Pete & Don Anderson, Washington State.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Quinten “Andy” Anderson and her parents, Charles &Alvina.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Linda Van Scoy, 609 Willow Dr., Aberdeen, SD.

HAROLD HOLGERSON

Harold Holgerson, 84, Aberdeen died Friday, October 31, 2008 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

MADALYN STOLTENBERG

The service for Madalyn Stoltenberg, 84, Aberdeen will be 11:00am, Monday, November 3, 2008 at Plymouth Congregational UCC, with Pastor Jon Damaska officiating. Burial is at West Rondell Cemetery-rural Stratford. Madalyn died peacefully Thursday, October 30, at her home in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 2-5pm, Sunday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Madalyn was born November 5, 1923 on her family’s farm near Conde, SD to Thomas and Esther (Johnson) Haney. Madalyn attended country school until entering Brentford High School graduating in 1942. Madalyn married Floyd Stoltenberg at Aberdeen, SD on October 18, 1944. Madalyn lived with Floyd on their family farm near Stratford, SD until moving to Aberdeen in 1990. Madalyn and Floyd were longtime members of the Hub City Good Sams Club and both enjoyed traveling to all 50 states.

Madalyn was also a member of Sunshine Circle, Help One Another Extension Club, and the neighborhood Birthday Club. Madalyn was an avid participant in exercise classes at the Aberdeen Recreational Center until her illness and often played dominoes with friends. Madalyn enjoyed reading and sewing and made quilts for her children and grandchildren to mark special milestones.

Madalyn was a member of the Brentford United Church of Christ and in 1992 became a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Aberdeen.

Madalyn is survived by her son, Randall (Marlis) Stoltenberg of Stratford, SD; her daughter Jill (Thomas) Hanley of Aberdeen; her sister Ruth (Marvin) Mannie, Redfield, SD; her sister Donna Winkler, Mt. Home, Idaho; her brother Richard (Gwen) Haney, Ft. Jones, CA; 8 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, husband, infant daughter, son Kevin, and infant great-granddaughter.

Madalyn was a strong, kind farm wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends.
