GERALD “RED” DELL

The funeral service for Gerald “Red” Dell, 71, Raytown, MO and formerly Bath, will be 10:00am, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will be at Bath Memorial Cemetery. Red died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at his home.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Wednesday, with family present from 5-7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Jerry Dell was born April 1, 1937 in Aberdeen, SD, to Melvin & Ruth (Murray) Dell. He grew up in the Bath area where he attended school. He graduated from Bath High School with the Class of 1955. In 1956, he married Doreen Wright at Houghton, SD. He worked for area farmers and Laham at Hecla, International Harvester, and Safeguard. He moved to Raytown in the early 1980’s.

He was a past president of Machinist Union Lodge 862. Jerry loved golfing with his sons. He also enjoyed organizing and attending golf tournaments with his friends in Kansas City. Jerry was an enthusiastic Kansas City Royals fan. He was a little league baseball coach in Bath for several years. Jerry always looked forward to spending time with his grandkids, whom he loved.

Grateful for having shared Jerry’s life are his sons, Kevin (Susan) Dell, Aberdeen; Brian (Linda) Dell, Hennessey, OK; Daryl (Valerie) Dell, Medford, OK; daughter, Debbie Johnson, Aberdeen; brother, Leslie Dell, Aberdeen; grandchildren, Travis Scepaniak, Ryan (Kristi) Scepaniak, Dylon Johnson, Sandra (Kevin) Pons, Jessica Dell, Ashley (Craig) Bossert, Colton Dell, Clay Dell, Dexter Dell, Dustin Dell; great grandson, Isaiah.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Dennis, brother, Lester, son-in-law, Ed Johnson.

Casket bearers are Jerry’s grandsons & nephews: Travis Scepaniak, Ryan Scepankiak, Dylon Johnson, Kevin Pons, David Dell, Dan Dell and Jim Dell.

Honorary casket bearers are Jerry’s grandchildren & great grandson: Sandra (Kevin) Pons, Jessica Dell, Ashley (Craig) Bossert, Colton Dell, Clay Dell, Dexter Dell, Dustin Dell and Isaiah Scepaniak.

ERNEST S. SWENSON

The funeral service for Ernest S. Swenson, 92, Aberdeen is 10:30 am, Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church, rural Bath, SD, with Pastor Vicki Saudi-Worthington officiating. Burial will follow at Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery. Ernest died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Manor Care Nursing Home.

Visitation 1-7 pm, with family present from 5-7 pm, Tuesday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Ernest Sylvester Swenson was born January 24, 1917 to Severt and A. Karine (Hundstad) Swenson in Gem Township, Bath, SD. He was baptized and confirmed at Scandinavia Church, where he remained an active member all his life, serving many years as a member of the church council. He attended grade school in the Hundstad School in Gem Township. Ernest graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen in 1935, and attended Northern State Teachers College for one year.

He was employed at the K.O. Lee Company in Aberdeen from 1939-1946 and then went into farming with his father.

Ernest married Hazel Sandve at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen on October 12, 1958. He farmed and raised Registered Polled Hereford Cattle until he retired in 1991. He was a director in the S.D. Polled Hereford Association for several years.

Following retirement, he enjoyed collecting models of machinery he had used during his farming years.

Grateful for having shared Ernest’s life are his wife, Hazel, Aberdeen, brother, LaVerne, Aberdeen, sister, Gladys Hoefert, Seneca, SD, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Irene, brother-in-law, Robert Hoefert, sister-in-law, Della Swenson, niece, Barbara Pins, nephews, Leland Stange and Rodney Torguson, great nephews, Jeffrey and Jared Bitzer.

MARIAN ELIZABETH STONE

The funeral service for Marian Elizabeth Stone, 77, Aberdeen, will be 11:00am, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Aberdeen Christian Fellowship with Pastor Jon Droege officiating. Burial is at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls on Wednesday at 1:00pm. Marian died Tuesday, February 17, at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Monday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Marian was born at Old Cheyenne River Agency, SD on November 23, 1931 to Wallace and Elizabeth (Shields) Robertson. She attended boarding school at Cheyenne River Agency and graduated from Nettleton’s Business College with a degree in stenography. She also attended Haskell Indian School.

Marian was a long time employee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She began her career in Aberdeen and also worked at the BIA, Cheyenne River Agency. She later transferred to Department of Agriculture, National Forest Service in Custer, SD where she retired in December 1993 and returned to Aberdeen.

She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed being involved with all of her families’ activities. She especially enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting. They all enjoyed playing board games, putting together various craft projects, going to rummage sales, watching movies and just spending time together. She was also an active member of the Aberdeen Christian Fellowship Church. She loved God and her church family.

Grateful for having shared Marian’s life are her children, Leland (Rhonda) Baade, Aberdeen; Sherri Shields, Aberdeen; Rory Baade, Aberdeen; Wayne Stone, Aberdeen; Mary Sumption, Aberdeen; grandchildren, Sherilee (Sylvester) Pacheco; Ezra “Shane” Baade; Chris Baade; Grace, Carly & Lauren Sumption; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Makaia, Taj, Tanisha, Tai.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Stewart Baade and Dana Baade; brother, Steven Robertson and her parents.

The family prefers memorials to Aberdeen Christian Fellowship.

LILLIAN ROTT

The service for Lillian Rott, Leola, will be 10:30am, Monday, February 23, 2009 at United Methodist Church, Leola, with Pastor Don Peck officiating. Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Lillian died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Leola.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Sunday, with a prayer service at 7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Lillian Ann Joahim was born April 21, 1914 to William and Elizabeth (Iszler) Joachim. She grew up on a farm fourteen miles northeast of Eureka, SD.

She married Ben Rott on October 13, 1935, near Eureka, SD. They lived in Ashley, ND until 1942 when they moved to Leola. They farmed three miles south of Leola until they retired.

She was a member of Leola United Methodist Church. What she held highly and most important was her love for her God, faith, and family. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was loved by all.

Grateful for having shared Lillian’s life are her daughters, Sylvia Arioso, Leola, Cynthia Schock, Aberdeen, Monica (Roy) Meyer, Aberdeen, daughter-in-law, Sylvia Rott, Leola; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, two sisters, Clara (Christ) Janke, Eureka and Elizabeth Jundt, Hemet, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by husband, Ben Rott; one son, Earl Rott, and great granddaughter, Naomi Arioso Rath, her parents, William & Elizabeth Joachim, brothers, Theodore Joachim, Adam Joachim, Leopold Joachim, Eugene Joachim, sisters, Ida Woehl, Frieda (Pfeiffer) Kost, Olga Joachim, Alma Bertsch, Adaline Joachim.

MILDRED MORRIS

The memorial service for Mildred Morris, 97, Aberdeen, will be 10:30am, Thursday, February 19, 2009, First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Mildred died Sunday, February 15, at ManorCare Health Services

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Luella Thiel was born May 7, 1911 at Watertown, SD to Edward & Hazel (Spooner) Thiel. As a young child the family moved to Aberdeen, where Mildred attended school. After graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1930, she began working at JC Penny.

On July 7, 1940, Mildred married Lyle L. Morris at Aberdeen. She continued to work for JC Penny for thirty-eight years, until retiring in 1970. Lyle died in March of 1993 and she continued to live in Aberdeen.

Mildred was a past Queen of Daughters of the Nile and Scottish Rite Women. She was a member of Gay Nine Bridge Club and was a serving lady at the Family Y.

Grateful for having shared Mildred’s life are her nieces, nephews and friends

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

RAYMOND HABECK

The funeral service for Raymond Habeck, 50, Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm, Thursday, February 19, 2009, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial is at Riverside Memorial Park. Raymond died Tuesday, February 17, at his home.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Wednesday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Raymond Habeck was born on August 6, 1958 at Ipswich, SD to Clarence and Frances (Reber) Habeck. He attended school in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1976. He then farmed for a few years.

On August 27, 1982 Raymond married Kimberly Lipp at Aberdeen. In 1982, he started Habeck Radiator, which he owned and operated until the time of his death.

Raymond was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed the races at the Brown County Speedway, fishing, and hunting. Raymond loved watching his son’s activities.

Grateful for having shared Raymond’s life are his wife, Kim Habeck, Aberdeen; mother, Frances Habeck, Aberdeen; sons, Tyler, Jesse, and Lance Habeck, Aberdeen; brother, Clarence (Lori) Habeck, Aberdeen; sisters, Sharon (Rick) Neal, Aberdeen; Susan Habeck, Ellendale, MN; Shirley (Darryl) Hanisch, Aberdeen.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence.

Honorary Pallbearers are CHS Wrestling Team, Aberdeen Thunder Special Olympics, Dr. Conklin and staff, Lucille Gross.

Pallbearers are Tyler, Jesse, Lance, Matt, Jared, Justin, Jack Habeck, and Ryan and Jeff Neal.

SONNY LUCAS

The memorial service for Sonny Lucas, 59, Aberdeen, will be 2:00 pm, Friday, February 20, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Haggar & Pastor Ross Reinhiller officiating. Sonny passed away Wednesday, February 18, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Sonny (Clyde) Henry Lucas was born June 10, 1949 in Colorado to Clyde & Virginia (Robinson) Lucas. He spent 2 terms in the US Army in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged. During his service he worked at Ft. Carson as the grounds keeper of the Golf Course.

Sonny moved to Aberdeen in April of 1986 and married Linda Vining Kempf. They spent a wonderful 23 years together on their hobby farm.

Sonny was a member of the American Miniature Horse Association where he served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the American Horse Registry. He was a National Judge for the American Rabbit Breeders Association for over thirty years. He loved woodworking and creating gifts for family and friends. Sonny enjoyed spending time in his tractor and taking care of the farm.

Grateful for having shared Sonnys life are his wife, Linda, Aberdeen; mother, Virginia, Colorado; daughter, Lisa (Reggie) Tell-Berland; stepsons, Curtis (Carol) Kempf; Wade (Melissa) Kempf; grandchildren, Larissa; Taylor; Jayden; Scotty; Gabriel; and sister, Gladys (Larry) Robbins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Lucas.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Sonny Lucas Benefit Fund at Great Western Bank.

The funeral service for Marian Elizabeth Stone, 77, Aberdeen, will be 11:00am, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Aberdeen Christian Fellowship with Pastor Jon Droege officiating.
