FRIEDA HEUPEL

The service for Frieda Heupel, 96, Aberdeen, will be 10:00 am, Friday, February 13, 2009 at Faith United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jack Erickson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Frieda died Monday, February 9, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Thursday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

ANDRA REBER

Andra Reber, 71, of Aberdeen died Friday, February, 6, 2008 at Aberdeen Health & Rehab. According to her wishes she was cremated and will have no public services. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

Andra Cool was born June 3, 1937 at Minneapolis, MN to John & Reatha (Gehrke) Cool. At the age of 3 the family moved to Sturgis, SD and later to Aberdeen. On June 23, 1956 she married Wesley Reber at Aberdeen. They then made their home on a farm near Groton. In 1977 they moved back to Aberdeen.

Grateful for having shared Andra’s Life are her Daughters Peggy (Wayne) Cease, Groton, SD, Reatha (Darwin) Hall, Aberdeen. She had two grandchildren; Oscar Cease and April Cease, one great granddaughter, McKenzie Cease and one step-great granddaughter Alissa Woldt. Andra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wesley Reber and two sons, JayJay Reber and Wesley Todd Reber, Jr.

ORVAL T. OMODT

The funeral service for Orval T. Omodt, 88, of Aberdeen, will be 11:00am, Monday, February 9, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery, Spring Grove, MN. Orval died Thursday, February 5, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 2-6pm, Sunday with family present from 4-6pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, Aberdeen.

Orval T. Omodt was born September 1, 1920, at Spring Grove, MN to Alfred & Ella (Blexrud) Omodt. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from Spring Grove High School, Orval continued to work on the family farm until 1961.

On May 4, 1955, Orval married Gladys Hallan. Orval transferred to Aberdeen in 1972 with Control Data. After retiring in 1984, he worked part time as a courier for Avera St. Luke’s Hospital and then in Central Supply. He then did volunteer work at St. Luke’s Auxiliary Guest House.

Orval was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway. He was very proud of his Norwegian baking and Norwegian heritage. Orval earned the Specialty Food Award with Sons of Norway for his baking. He was known for his sense of humor and his love of visiting with people.

Grateful for having shared Orval’s life are his wife, Gladys, of Aberdeen; three daughters, Lynn (Randy) Parker, of St. Cloud, MN; Linda (Pat) Kennedy, of Grey Eagle, MN; and Karen (Mike) Heier, of Aberdeen; six grandchildren, Kayleen Parker; Keith Parker; Jesse Bassett; Kelly Kennedy; Kim (Justin) Werk; and Amanda Preston; one great grandson, Jet Werk; and Orval’s brother-in-law, Carl Clessler.

Orval was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ella and his sister, Eleanor Clessler.

MILDRED CHRISTENSON

Mildred Christenson, 96, Santa Rosa, CA, died Friday, February 5, 2009 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen, SD.

GEORGE OLSON

The service for George Olson, 79, Aberdeen, will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tanya Rist officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and coffee following the service. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. George died Thursday, February 5, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 1-6pm, with family present from 4-6pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

George Arnold Olson was born March 13, 1929 at Aberdeen, SD to Arnold & Adeline (Knapp) Olson. This is the area where he grew up and attended school.

He married Joyce Koenig in 1951. She died in 1974. On May 1, 1976 George married Bernice Kapp at Aberdeen. After the Navy, he became employed at Aberdeen Finance from 1952-54 and from 1954-91, he worked for the Rhodes Group.

George was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, VFW, American Legion, Sertoma, and past member of the Elks. He loved fishing and playing Bridge.

Grateful for having shared George’s life are his wife, Bernice; sons, Richard (Sandy) Olson; Timothy (Ilene) Olson; daughter, Jewel Schneider; step daughter, Claudia Kapp; step son-in-law, Allen Arndt; brother, Robert Olson, eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Norman Olson, sister, Alice Olson, and step daughter, Yolanda Arndt.

IRENE HERZOG

The service for Irene Herzog, 99, Waukesha, WI, will be 11:00am, Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen, with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Mobridge, SD. Irene died Saturday, January 31, at Waukesha Springs.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Irene Althea Hein was born on September 16, 1909 at Mound City, SD to John and Pearl Harriet (Hanson) Hein. The family made their home on the Scott Ranch near Herreid, where Irene started school. She then attended Mound City and later, Jeiffle School before graduating from Mobridge High School with the Class of 1928. She worked at various stores in Mobridge.

Irene married Clarence Lamont Herzog at Glendive, MT on August 15, 1931. They made their first home in Glendive, MT, where her husband worked for Railway Express. In 1932 they were transferred back to Mobridge, then to Anaconda, MT, Glendive and later to Havre. Irene & Clarence moved to Bismarck and later to Fargo, ND where her husband retired. In 1966, they moved to Mobridge. They were both involved in an automobile accident in 1968 and her husband was killed. Irene continued to live in Mobridge until September of 1993 when she moved to Aberdeen.

Irene was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was always very active in many church activities, the Mobridge Garden Club; Mobridge Historical Society; Past Chair of the Klein Musician Board; Past President of the PTA-Fargo; and Mother’s Club.

Grateful for having shared Irene’s life are her sons, James (Donna) Herzog, Maple Grove, MN; John (Carmen) Herzog, Bloomington, MN; daughter, Carol (David) Vandenberg, Genesee Depot, WI; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, one brother and two sisters.

ESTHER ALMYRA JESCHKE

The service for Esther Almyra Jeschke, 94, Aberdeen, will be 1:30pm, Friday, April 10, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mansfield with Pastor Wesley Hafner officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Esther died Tuesday, April 7, at Mother Joseph Manor.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Thursday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Esther Almyra Albrecht was born on March 6, 1915 at Columbia, SD to Julius & Ruth (Morris) Albrecht. This is the area where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Columbia High School with the Class of 1933. In 1942, she attended Beauty School at Aberdeen, SD. She moved to Tacoma, WA and candled eggs for a time.

Esther met the love of her life at the Roof Garden Dance, and on June 4, 1952, she married Irvin Herman Jeschke at Aberdeen. They made their home on a farm near Northville, SD until 1991 when they moved to Aberdeen where they have lived since.

Esther was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mansfield, where she was active in LWML Ladies Aide. She was also active in the Warner Senior Citizens Center. Esther enjoyed sewing and quilting. She liked to keep a garden and raising flowers. Esther and Irvin loved raising Siamese cats. Visiting friends and family was a favorite pass time of theirs. For many years, they went to Texas for the winter with their RV after Irvin retired.

Grateful for having shared Esther’s life are her sister, Delores Berreth, Aberdeen; brother, Fred (Grace) Albrecht, Groton; a cousin, Marie (Frank) Quiggle, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Ruth, her husband, Irvin, one sister, Bernis Smith, four brothers: Wayne, Walter, Merle and Elmer, and her cousins, Leonard Albrecht and Joyce Kimball.

CARL WIEDEBUSH

The service for Carl Wiedebush, 95, Aberdeen, will be 10:30am, Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mansfield with Pastor Wesley Hafner officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Carl died Tuesday, March 31, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 1-4:30pm, Friday, with family present from 3-4:30pm and a prayer service at 4:30pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Carl Wiedebush was born August 7, 1913 at Mansfield to Fred and Minnie (Toennies) Wiedebusch. He was the youngest in a family of 13 children including four half-sisters, two step-sisters, one step-brother, three sisters and two brothers. He grew up and attended grade school in this rural area. Carl was confirmed on August 29, 1926, and was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Mansfield. It was here that he married Verda Bierman on June 29, 1937.

Carl spent much of his life farming the land that was homesteaded by his grandfather, Karl Wiedebusch, in 1893. He told many stories about farm life, one of the most memorable being the afternoon they were milking cows in the barn when a tornado blew the roof off. Carl and Verda retired and moved to Aberdeen in September, 1982.

Carl was a very devoted husband and father and lived each day with faith and family as his priorities. During his 71 years of marriage he and his wife shared similar interests and pastimes. They particularly enjoyed bowling leagues and won enough trophies to give one to every grandchild and great-grandchild, with a few left over. They also looked forward to evenings spent playing cards with relatives and friends. After his retirement Carl enjoyed tending to his lawn and garden, and would spend time ‘fixing and inventing’ with the tools he kept in his garage. Carl always seemed to have a twinkle in his eye. His family will remember him most for his wonderful sense of humor and his commitment and strong faith in his Savior.

Grateful for having shared Carl’s life are daughter, Maryl (Earl) Anderson, Aberdeen; son, Dennis ( Lynda) Wiedebush, Aberdeen; son, Randy (Carol) Wiedebush, Mansfield; grandchildren, Gaylon (Della) Anderson, Scott (Karla) Anderson, Dawn (Jamie) Hagen, Kevin (Aimee) Anderson, Greg (Katrina) Wiedebush, Joel Wiedebush, Darin Wiedebush, Kelli Wiedebush, great grandchildren, Kimberly, Holly, Katie, Kelsey, Taylor, Grace, Elizabeth, Jaicee, Kamryn, Kendyl, Lauren, Emily, Levi, Zanrick, Teightum, and Kennadee, sister, Martha Elsing, Aberdeen, and brother, Edwin (Irma) Wiedebush, Aberdeen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verda Wiedebush; daughter, Sharon Wiedebush; grandson, Gary Wiedebush; sisters Ann Hagman and Selma Mogck, and brother Fred Wiedebush.

EVELYN YESKE

Funeral service for Evelyn Yeske, 97, of Aberdeen, will be 10 am, Saturday, April 4, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Columbia. Evelyn died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Visitaiton 1-7 pm, Friday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with a prayer service at 7.

Evelyn Wynn was born in Denzil, Saskatchewan, Canada to Ernest and Pearl ( Whitney) Wynn. She married Arnold Yeske on June 6, 1931 in Columbia. The Couple farmed in the Columbia/Barnard area before moving to Portland Oregon in 1959 where they managed an apartment complex.

Evelyn enjoyed sewing and making nylon net scrubbers and was an avid reader. Gardening and growing flowers was a particular enjoyment for her. She belonged to various clubs and St. Johns church ladies Aid.

Mr. Yeske died on June 20, 1981 in Aberdeen.

Grateful for having shared Evelyn’s life are her daughters, Darlys (Milton) Leicht, Olympia, WA; Beverly “Betty” (Don) Thayer, Aberdeen; Joanne (Bill) Morgan, St. Helens, OR. 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Pearl Wynn, husband, Arnold Yeske, daughters, Jeanette Schaffer and Carol Hinz, brother, Verne Wynn, sisters, Leola “Dode” Peck and Ilene Aldahl.

Pall Bearers will be grandsons: Dan Thayer, Daryl Thayer, Donnie Hinz, Richard Hinz, Tom Hinz, Troy Schreiner and Randy Schaffer.

SHIRLEY MONTOYA

Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Montoya, 82, Aberdeen, is 11:00am, Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Tom Anderson, Celebrant. Burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Shirley died Sunday, March 22, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Visitation: 1-5pm, Wednesday, with a Wake and Rosary at 5pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Shirley Mae Thompson was born on September 30, 1926 to Paul and Laura (Kinney) Thompson at Detroit, MI. She grew up in Detroit and attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent. At age 15, after a serious horse riding accident, her family moved to Whittier, CA. There she met Herman Stephens, whom she later married. Herman’s Navy career took them to Washington, Long Beach, FL, and Texas. After almost two years in Texas, they moved back to California. Herman died in 1979. Shirley married Andrew “Art” Montoya at Yuma, AZ. They made their home in California and Shirley worked as an LPN and later as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes and hospitals. They had a cabin in the upper desert of Yucca Valley, CA that the family loved to spend time at. In 1982, Shirley moved to Aberdeen to be near her family. Shirley then moved to Aberdeen Health and Rehab in 2001.

Shirley became known as grandma and great grandma to many friends of her own family. She enjoyed raising roses and loved animals. Football was a favorite pass time of hers, both attending local games and watching the Michigan Wolverines. She liked to crochet doilies, do crossword puzzles, and play cards, especially 500 Rum. Shirley cared deeply for people and always felt a deep need to help others.

Grateful for having shared Shirley’s life are her daughters, Mary Stephens; Carmen (Daniel) Rux, Sr; grandchildren, Peggy (Doug) Denbesten; Dennis (Annette Gross) Curry; Gil (Sue) Navarro; Mike (Jan) Navarro; Dan Rux, Jr.; great grandchildren, Stephanie, Jamie, Bret, Craig, Kyle, Cassandra, Gabby, Sami, Jacob, Jose, Christopher, Nicole, Koby, and Sydnie; great-great grandson, Tray.

She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and sons-in-law, Tony Curry and Gilbert Navarro.
