BETTY M. KELLER

The funeral service for Betty M. Keller, 83, of Wessington Springs, SD, will be 10:30 am Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Free Methodist Church with Pastor Don Grubb and Gaylon VanZee officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, rural Wessington Springs. Betty died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Avera Weskota Nursing Home, Wessington Springs, SD.

Visitation will be 1-3 pm Tuesday, June 9, at the Free Methodist Church, Wessington Springs.

Betty Marie Sible was born on February 26, 1926 in Jeanette, Pennsylvania, the youngest of seven children born to John and Barbara Sible. She grew up and attended school in Jeanette.

Through a Church paper affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, Betty began corresponding with those in the military that were published in that paper. Her mother encouraged her to write to the servicemen so they would be sure to have mail from home. Betty wrote to several and never heard back from any but Charles. Charles enjoyed writing poems and short stories and had written one that Betty and her mother thought especially nice. Betty’s mother suggested she continue to write him and when he came home from serving his country in Germany, they met for the first time at Winona Lake, Indiana. Betty had never been away from home and traveled there by train with her mother.

Betty married Charles H. “Bud” Keller on June 21, 1948 in Jeanette, PA, Betty’s hometown. To this union were born four children; Becky, Charlie, Pam and Richard Keller. Charles was a Free Methodist Pastor and the ministry led them to many places including South Dakota, Iowa, and Indiana. Charles and Betty were thrilled to be able to return to South Dakota in 1992, as they had spent many years in the ministry here. Charles passed away April 28, 1996 in Wessington Springs and Betty moved to the Apollo Apartments. She then resided at Hillcrest Heights until her move to Avera Weskota Nursing Home three years ago.

Betty was always a dedicated Pastor’s wife who faithfully helped her husband in his ministries. She was a wonderful mother and felt it her duty to always keep any parsonage the family lived in as a welcome place for anyone who came to the door. Betty enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. She also enjoyed raising beautiful house plants. Betty loved caring for her family and her home.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Becky (Craig) Leslie, of Wessington Springs, Charlie (Becky) Keller, of Wessington Springs, Pam (Gene) Kenny of Mauldin, South Carolina, and Richard (Kirstin) Keller of New Paris, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Clayton (Jeanette) Leslie, Brandon (Sara) Leslie, Chad (Mandy) Keller, Misty Keller, Amanda Kenny, Megan Kenny, Cheyenne Keller, Ryan Keller, and Ava Baker; and her sister, Martha Schrock.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, June Mellon and Dorothy Kelly, and three brothers, Clifford Sible, Clarence Sible, and Kenneth Sible.
