On June 19, 1949, Wesley married Verna Ernst from Roscoe. They lived in Leola where he continued working for his brother. He then attended telegraphy school in Denver, but not finding a job with the railroad close to Leola, he once again went to work for his brother to remain near his family. It wasn’t long before Wesley & Verna purchased the Cities Service gas station in Leola. This entrepreneurship and an honest hard-work ethic marked the beginning of a long and successful relationship with the public as a small businessman, owning and operating businesses from 1958 through 1983 including: Rueb’s Market and Creamery in Leola, later known as Rueb’s Jack & Jill grocery store; Eureka Jack & Jill, McLaughlin Jack & Jill; and finally the Riverview Motel in Aberdeen. He was very active in Booster Clubs at Central High School in Aberdeen, a member of the Hub City Sam’s Camping Club, the Aberdeen Senior Center, and The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, where he sang for over 14 years with the Friendship Singers and volunteered for many community events and activities. He very much enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, traveling and playing games and cards with friends and family.

Although a shy and quiet man, he loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He will be missed by many, but not forgotten by any for his faithfulness, generosity, kindness, words of encouragement, great sense of humor and wonderful smile. His greatest joy was always his family and it was important to him that his children had a strong relationship with God. He encouraged them to be themselves and was proud of each one of them. His legacy of love will be cherished by all those who surrounded him.

Wesley was a devoted and loving husband to Verna and a very special father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his daughter and son-in-law, John and Glenda Shepela, Waldorf, Maryland; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sandra (Hoffman) Rueb and sons, Brian, Elliot and Justin, Plentywood, Montana; and son and daughter-in-law, Gavin and Connie (Dafoe) Rueb and children, Nicole, Wesley and Eric, Brussels, Belgium.
