MARGARET ELIZABETH NIEMEYER

The funeral service for Margaret Elizabeth Niemeyer, 88, Aberdeen, is 10:00am, Friday, November 19, 2010 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest in the Faulkton Cemetery with her parents and other family members. Margaret passed away Wednesday, November 17, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.

Margaret E. Niemeyer, daughter of Fred and Maude (Faulkner) Niemeyer was born on March 23, 1922 at her home near Faulkton, SD. After attending country school through the first grade, Margaret attended school in Faulkton, graduating in 1940. She graduated from Aberdeen Commercial College.

In March of 1942 she went to work for the War Department in Washington, DC. At the end of the war she lived briefly with her younger brother and his family in New York, moving to Los Angeles with them in 1945. She was employed at a law firm in Los Angeles, and then returned to South Dakota in 1946 with her older brother and his family.

She began work in Aberdeen in 1947, first at R.E. Huffman Co., then Jackson Hardware. In 1956 Margaret began work at the Social Security Administration. She retired in 1982.

Margaret did volunteer work for Alexander Mitchell Library, Dacotah Prairie Museum, her church, Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce and the Storybook Land Information Center.

For over 50 years she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Susannah Wesley Circle, Beta Sigma Phi and YWCA Business Women. Margaret was also a member of National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees and the Woman’s Club of Aberdeen.

Grateful for having shared Margaret’s life are 14 nieces and nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews and 8 great great nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 2 nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to First United Methodist Church, 502 South Lincoln Street, Aberdeen, SD 57401, or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, 386 Park Avenue South, 17th Floor, New York, NY, 10016.

ADA BERNICE SIMON-NEACE

The funeral service for Ada Bernice Simon-Neace, daughter of Lynn Marie Simon and Drew Neace, is 10:00am, Saturday, November 20, 2010, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Aberdeen with the Rev. Kathryn Costas officiating. Ada was stillborn on November 15, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Burial at Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street.

Ada Bernice Simon-Neace was born on November 15, 2010 to her loving mother and father, Drew Neace and Lynn Marie Simon at Aberdeen, SD. She was so loved and so wanted by her family. Her mom and dad had her room set up just right for her. Her bed and clothes were laid out and ready for her. Her grandparents Tom and Linda were looking forward to letting her play in grandpa’s shop, with the dog, and taking her to Story Book Land. Her grandparents Curt and Kristi were thinking of the walks they could take her on, especially to the park and Twist Cone. They also looked forward to dancing and singing with her around their house as they do with their other grandchildren.

Ada was a beautiful baby girl who touched so many lives in such a brief time. We will always miss and love you, but God wanted a precious little angel by his side. You will forever be in our hearts.

Ada was the treasured daughter of Drew Neace and Lynn Marie Simon of Aberdeen, beloved granddaughter of Tom and Linda Simon, Aberdeen, Curt and Kristi Gienger, Aberdeen, Jerry Neace, Rochester, MN and Janel Combellick, Eagle Butte, SD, cherished great granddaughter of Delores Gehrts and Esther Gienger, both of Aberdeen, neice of Forrest and Tanya Spraw, Aberdeen, Mike and Stacey Leutzen, Great Falls, MT, Christopher Gienger, Columbia, Missouri, Savanna Neace, Aberdeen, and Kellye Neace, Aberdeen. She will also be greatly missed by her 11 cousins.

Ada is being greeted in heaven by her great grandparents: Bernard and Grace Simon, Peter and Hazel Dupris, Rueben Gienger, John Gehrts, and Marlene and Bill Neace, her aunt Bernice Spraw, uncle Alexander Neace, numerous aunts and uncles and special friend, Darlene Niederman.

MARY LOU SCHUELKE

Service for Mary Lou Schuelke, 83, Butte and formerly of Aberdeen will be 11:00am, Monday, November 22, 2010 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street, Aberdeen. Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial in Riverside Memorial Park. Mary died November 12, 2010 in Butte.

Visitation will be Monday morning prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary Lou Schuelke was born June 1, 1927 in Aberdeen to Roy R. and Nettie Amelia (Shannon) Boatman. She graduated from Columbia High School and then graduated from pharmacy school in May, 1949 from South Dakota State University.

Mary married Alan Schuelke of Groton in September, 1949.

Mary started her pharmacy career in Bittner’s Drug Store in Aberdeen covering Daniel Drug and Stout Drug in Aberdeen, Huron Clinic in Huron, Bryan’s Pharmacy, Salem and finally retired from Casey’s Drug, Chamberlain in 1994 full time and worked part time after for a few years. She moved to Butte in March, 2005 to be close to her son Bruce and family.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Nancy Schuelke of Minneapolis, Bruce and Judy Schuelke of Butte and daughter Tamara Schuelke of Sioux Falls, eight grandsons and one granddaughter: Drew and Tyler sons of Tom, Courtney and Logan children of Bruce, Anthony, Nathan, Charles, Keith and Kyle, children of Tamara. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Donovan Thomas Schuelke, uncle, Clifford Shannon, aunts, Mary Shannon Wallace, Isabelle Shannon Thompson and ex-husband Alan Schuelke.

Mary was kind hearted and loved to be with others. She loved her country gospel music and reading romance novels. Her favorite memories were going to supper with her lady friends at Al's Oasis in Chamberlain, a boat cruise to Alaska with her son Tom and Family from Minneapolis, her visit this spring with her daughter Tam from Sioux Falls and her Holiday gatherings with Bruce and his family in Butte. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and an inspiration to us all. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Aberdeen AA Yellow House, 519 South Arch Street, Aberdeen, SD 57401.

LORETTA WALTMAN

The funeral service for Loretta B. Waltman, 90, of Aberdeen, will be Saturday November 20, 2010 at Aberdeen Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Brian LaCroix officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen. Loretta died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm Friday November 19, with family present from 5-7, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

Loretta Bulah Stein was born on August 20, 1920 to Louis and Esther (Kernkamp) Stein at Alexandria, MN. The family moved to Columbia, SD in 1928. Loretta grew up and attended school there and later the family moved to Aberdeen. She finished school and worked in Aberdeen until age 18 when she moved to Watertown, SD for two years. She then returned to Aberdeen and married William Waltman at Bemidji, MN on February 27, 1945. They made their home in Aberdeen where she worked for Tiffany Laundry, the Capitol Café and Alonzo Ward Hotel. Mr. Waltman passed away on September 28, 1966. Loretta continued to make Aberdeen her home and worked at the Alonzo Ward Hotel. She later worked at Super 8 Motel and retired in 1982.

Loretta was a member of the Aberdeen Wesleyan Church.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband William, parents, Louis and Esther, brother Marvin Stein and sister Dorothy Corne, and nephew Curtis Bain.

MARGARET WESTBY BENSON

The memorial service for Margaret Westby Benson, 90, Aberdeen, will be 11:00am, Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating. Private family burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen, on a later date.

Margaret immersed herself in life through her family, church, community, and friends. She was loved and respected by all who knew and always displayed a zest for life.

Born to Harold and Alveda Larson Westby, Margaret joined brothers, Herbert and Morton, and, later, her sister, Lucille, on the family farm in Gem Township. After completing country school she attended high school in Aberdeen, graduating from Central in 1938. She studied at the Aberdeen School of Commerce and subsequently worked as a secretary at Jackson Hardware. Margaret met Bennie Benson, the love of her life, through the church, and they were married July 10, 1943 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, one of several bases where he was stationed with the Army Air Corps. After the war, they returned to Aberdeen, raised three children, and established themselves as engaged, energetic members of the community.

Margaret was a 75-year member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she served in many capacities from president of women’s groups to church delegate representing Bethlehem at state and national conferences. She led Bible study classes for children, teens and adults, including twenty years of Bible Study classes at Bethesda; she accompanied choirs on the piano, and organized innumerable church activities over the years. Margaret was also a member of, and newsletter editor for, Sons of Norway. She served as PTA president at Henry Neill School, and volunteered with Lutheran Family Services as well as Bethesda. She received the Sertoman of the Year award in 2002, honoring her for her years of service to the people of Aberdeen.

Margaret and Bennie loved traveling and visited family in Sweden, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and England. In 1983, they explored China with their 3 adult children. They also traveled the US from coast to coast.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Bennie, daughter Nancy Benson of Portland, OR and granddaughter Julia Benson Moran; daughter Linda Benson of Rochester Hills, MI and husband David Maines; and son Douglas Benson and wife Dorothy of Aberdeen, grandchildren Eric Benson of Pacifica, CA and Jessica Margaret Benson of Davis, CA.

She is also survived by her sister, Lucille, of Vancouver, WA, numerous nieces and nephews, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers.

Gifts in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Bethesda Building Fund or to Bethlehem Lutheran Church educational fund.

The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Bethesda Home for their years of kindness and love.

RORY D. BAADE

The funeral service for Rory D. Baade, 52, Aberdeen, will be 1:00pm, Monday, November 15, 2010 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St, Aberdeen, with Pastor Jon Droege officiating. Rory died Thursday, at Aberdeen health & Rehab.

Visitation will be from 9am until the time of service at the funeral home.

Grateful for having shared Rory’s life are his brothers, Leland (Rhonda) Baade, Wayne Stone, sisters, Sherri Shields and Mary (Quincy) Bad Moccasin.

Rory Dean Baade was born in Sioux Falls, SD on December 18, 1957 to Elwin Baade and Marian Stone. He graduated with a GED. He attended college at the American Indian Art Institute in New Mexico and also attended school at Kenneth Hagen School of Ministry in Olkahoma. He also attended a technical school for televistion production in Montana.

Rory worked in various vocations such as broadcast technician, construction and maintenance.

He enjoyed traveling, listening to music, playing guitar, writing poems and songs. Rory enjoyed spending time with his friends and was always ready to help someone in need. He loved animals and had several pets throughout his life.

Rory was a free spirit who lived life on his own terms.

SR. ELLEN KEENAN

Sister Ellen Keenan, 85, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died November 9, 2010 at Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen, SD.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Ellen Keenan will be November 11, 2010 at

1:00 p.m., in Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Convent, Aberdeen, SD. A Scriptural Wake Service will be November 10, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Father Joseph Sheehan, will be celebrant and homilist.

Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery with Spitzer Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street, in charge of arrangements.

Katherine Ellen was born August 10, 1925 to Molly (Swanton) and Patrick Keenan in Glandore, Co. Cork, Ireland. She received her early education in Ireland and graduated from Loretto Convent High School, Fermony, Co. Cork in 1943. Katherine Ellen attended Presentation College specializing in X-ray at St. Luke’s Hospital (1949-1953) and did undergraduate studies at Boston College (1958-1959) and later at Regis College, Denver, CO (1970-1971). She entered Presentation Convent January 31, 1960 and made her first profession of vows August 10, 1962, receiving the name, Sister Magdalen. She ministered at St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, N. E. Baptist Hospital, Boston, and Holy Rosary Hospital, Miles City, MT. Sister did parish work in Willmar, MN. and pastoral ministry at St. Luke’s, Aberdeen and Queen of Peace, Mitchell. She ministered in Sisters Care with the Sisters of St. Joseph in St. Paul. Sister Ellen retired to Presentation Convent in Aberdeen in 2002 and spent her last years at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.

Sister Ellen Keenan is survived by her community family of Presentation Sisters and a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Keenan, Jamaica Plain, MA. She is preceded in death by her parents Molly and Patrick Keenan, a sister Nancy and a brother Joseph.

Members of the Aberdeen Knights of Columbus will serve as casket bearers.

RAYMOND HIEPLER

The memorial service for Raymond Hiepler, 77, Lemmon, will be 1:30pm, Sunday, November 14, 2010 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Lemmon, SD. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Raymond died Sunday, November 7, at Lemmon, SD.

Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Gone Fishing

DALE E. STANLEY

The funeral service for Dale E. Stanley, 59, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 1:30pm, Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at New Life Fellowship, 619 8th Ave. NW with Pastor Joe Moslander officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Dale died Saturday, November 6, at his home with loved ones around him, after a year long fight with cancer.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Tuesday, November 9, with family present from 5-7pm and a prayer service at 7pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

Dale Eugene Stanley was born to Everett and Helen (Bachman) Stanley on May 22nd, 1951 in Watertown, SD. Dale grew up and attended school in Clark. Dale was Fertilizer Manager for Community Oil in Clark for 17 years. Dale also served on the Clark Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Crew for many years. He moved to Aberdeen in 1990 where he married Arlene Webb.

Dale battled cancer for an entire year. He tried so hard to beat it and still lived and loved life to the fullest. Even during his hard fight against the cancer, he would fish and hunt during breaks from chemo and radiation treatments. Dale and his sons, Justin & Corey, took several fishing trips to Canada. They also fished on the Missouri River, even though he needed help getting into the boat, he would still find the strength to reel in the fish. Dale loved playing Texas Hold’em and won in many tournaments throughout the years. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed beyond words.

Grateful for having shared Dale’s life are his wife, Arlene Webb/Stanley, Aberdeen, his mother, Helen Stanley, DeSmet, sons, Justin (Angela) Stanley, Corey (Jamie) Stanley, stepsons, Mike Webb, Jeff Webb, Danny Webb (Treva), Greg Webb (Melissa Kessler), stepdaughter, Amber Joy Webb (Ben Fischer), grandchildren, Olivia, Ashley, Brittney, Lindsey, Dylan, Destiny, Liberty, Skylar, Teyah, Brayden and Breah, brother, Dennis Stanley (Patty), sisters, Deb (Terry) Hieb, Doris (Duane) Poppen, and Dianne (Brian) Karber.

He is preceded in death by his father, Everett Stanley.

ERNA LAURA EISEMAN

The funeral service for Erna Eiseman, 80, Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm, Monday, November 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Erna died Friday, November 5, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 4-7pm, Sunday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Erna Laura Eiseman was born July 25, 1930 at rural Java, SD to Gertrude (Seif) and Gustav Hirsch. This is the area she attended school and grew to adulthood. She remained on the family farm until 1952 when they moved to Eureka, SD.

She married Howard A. Eiseman on October 8, 1954 at Aberdeen, SD. They lived in Eureka where she worked at the hospital and café. In 1970, they moved to Aberdeen, SD. While in Aberdeen she worked for Dakota Midland Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital until 1980, when she retired to take care of her grandkids. She continued to live in Aberdeen and entered long term care in 1998.

Erna was a member of First Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an excellent baker and was especially known for her kuchen. Erna loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Erna’s life are her husband, Howard Eiseman, daughters, Mary (Mark) Tolvstad, Mellette SD, Susan Darling, Silver Lake, KS, Ruby (James) Hood, Minot, ND, grandchildren, Heather (Dan) Smedra, Jaime Hopp, Cassi Tolvstad, Cody Tolvstad, Samie Darling, Kelsey Darling, Natasha (Knolan) Lee, Jimmy Hood, Dreu Hood, great grandchildren, Madilyn, Jacob, Derek, Lexi, sisters, Clara (Aaron) Jung, Minneapolis, MN, Anita (Marvin) Weig, Kathryn, ND, and brother-in-law, Floyd Rodin, Jamestown, ND.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Cindy, parents, and sister, Liala Rodin.
