ROSE ELLEN MILLARD

The memorial service for Rose Ellen Millard, 83, Aberdeen, will be at 2:00pm, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Aberdeen, with John Gasco officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Rose passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm Tuesday May 3, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, SD.

Rose Ellen Draper was born on May 18, 1927 to Thomas & Cecila (Hayden) Draper at Aberdeen SD. This is the area where she grew up and attended school. On June 2, 1945, Rose was united in marriage to Harold Frank Millard. They made their home on the family farm near Mina SD. Two children were added to this union. Rose enjoyed assisting Harold on the farm, as well as gardening, flowers and crocheting.

Harold passed away in March of 2009.

Grateful for having shared Rose’s life are her daughter, Linda Kay (Guynn) Peterson, and son, Eugene “Herb” (Dianne) Millard, five grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren, sister Ruby Bulian, Aberdeen, brother Harry Draper, Helena MT, sister Alice Rerich, Fairfield CA, brother Ray Draper, Ottawa IL, and sister Grace Olson, Aberdeen.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, sister Anna Stenstrom and brothers Thomas Draper and Llewelyn Draper.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

H. TREVOR ANDERSON

The funeral service for Harold Trevor Anderson, 63, of Aberdeen, will be 11am, Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park, Aberdeen. Trevor died Monday, April 18, at his home surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 2-5pm Wednesday for viewing, family will be present from 5-6pm with no viewing, and a prayer service at 6pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Harold Trevor Anderson was born on November 6, 1947 at Breckenridge, MN to Harold & Doris (Westby) Anderson. He grew up in Rosholt, SD where he attended country school through 7th grade and graduated from Rosholt High School. Trevor worked on the family farm and was active in 4H activities. He earned an Associate Degree in Agricultural Science from SDSU.

On August 2, 1968 he married Linda Shoemaker at Wolsey, SD, and had a daughter, Melissa (Johnson).

On May 7, 1983 he married Shelia Hill at Castle Rock, CO. Trevor and Shelia had a daughter, Lacey, and a son, Levi. They lived in Colorado and Texas before returning to Aberdeen in 1990.

Trevor remained active as a leader in 4H, through rodeos, horseshows, and teaching his children and grandchildren. He shared his love of horses with others by showing and training horses, announcing horseshows, team penning, and rodeos.

A rancher at heart, Trevor also became an auctioneer, a brand inspector, and owned Anderson Saddlery, where he sold, repaired and built saddles, and tack, and did custom leatherwork. Trevor always enjoyed working with his hands and visiting with the customers.

Trevor especially enjoyed spending time with his family, having cookouts, bon fires, and playing with his grandchildren. He could usually be found humming or singing an old country song while working around his shop and farm. He liked to find a shady spot under a tree to rest after a day’s work.

Grateful for having shared Trevor’s life are his wife, Shelia Anderson, Aberdeen, children, Melissa (Sean) Johnson, Aberdeen, Lacey Anderson (Tim Mehlhaff), Aberdeen, Levi Anderson (Samantha Drobny), Mansfield, SD, grandchildren, Jordan Johnson, Erin Johnson, Keeley Beck, mother, Doris Anderson, Rosholt, SD, brothers, Trent (Teresa) Anderson, New Brighton, MN, Todd Anderson, Wasilla, AK, Leon (Jill) Anderson, Rosholt, SD, Brian (Joan) Anderson, Rosholt, SD, sister, Teresa Anderson, Spearfish, SD, and 14 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Fritjof Anderson.

SHIRLEY ANN OLSON

Services for Shirley Ann Olson, 74 will be 7:00pm, Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Grace Reformed Church in Corsica, SD with a visitation from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the church. Pastor Donald H. Mohr will officiate. A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm, Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street, Aberdeen with a visitation from 1:30pm-3:00pm. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Aberdeen. Shirley died on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO.

Shirley Ann (Kadlec) Olson was born March 29, 1937 to Albert and Minnie (Kleffman) Kadlec near Loyalton, SD in Edmunds County. She attended rural school in Powell Township and then Ipswich High School graduating in 1955 as valedictorian.

She worked for Edmunds County in Ipswich as clerk in both the treasurer and auditor offices, also serving as Deputy County Auditor. She attended ND State School of Science in Wahpeton while working for an auto dealer. In Aberdeen she worked for Dakota Farmer, Ken Holum, and General Services Administration.

She married Dean Olson in May 1959 and lived in Ipswich, Aberdeen, Britton and Groton. They had four children, one son and three daughters, before divorcing in 1975.

She was active in First Presbyterian Church in Britton and Groton – choir, Sunday School teacher, and United Presbyterian Women as a local and state officer. She received the SD Woman of the Year Award in 1970. She was also a local and state officer of the Jaycettes in Britton and Groton.

She began working for the US Postal Service in Groton in 1968 and worked at the Aberdeen Distribution Center before being appointed Postmaster in Corsica, SD in 1977. She taught stamp collecting to thousands of students and served as a trainer for the stamp program and the Quality of Work Life process.

Shirley joined the National League of Postmasters in 1977 and was a very active member. She served several years in the state organization; then as Regional Coordinator, National Vice-President, and National Chairman of the Effective Service Committee. Following her retirement, she became State President of the South Dakota Retirees. She received the SD Postmaster of the Year in 1983 and the 573 Postmaster of the Year award in 1997. She attended all state conventions from 1977 – 2010 and all national conventions from 1981 – 2009. Shirley retired in 2003 with 37 years of combined federal service.

She was active in community and church organizations, including the Corsica Commercial Club, Priscilla Library Club, Parent Teachers organization and Music Boosters. She served as co-chairman of the state centennial celebration in Corsica.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, some international and domestically to all but five states: AL, MS, OK, SC, and VT. She loved to send birthday cards, notes of encouragement, warm thank-you’s, and get-well cards, etc. There didn't have to be a reason to get a note in the mail from Shirley.

Survivors include one son, Russell of Aberdeen, SD; three daughters Marcia Olson of Overland Park, KS; Anita Olson of Eagan, MN; and Donna (Tony) LeJune of Lee’s Summit, MO; two granddaughters Brittany and Rebeka LeJune; one niece Karla (Stan) Lewis, Parker and Vincent of Nisland, SD; two nephews Jon (Andrea) Kieckhefer, Noah and Lexa of Volga, SD and Joel Kieckhefer of Santa Fe, NM; and brother-in-law Robert Kieckhefer, Brookings, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, sister Janice Kieckhefer and Dean Olson.

In lieu of flowers family requests memorials to the National League of Postmasters Scholarship fund, Attn: Earl Carey, Sec/Treas, 1607 D Maiden Lane, Wenatchee, WA 98801 or memorial of your choice.

BEVERLY COOK

The memorial service for Beverly Cook, 80 of Oregon City, OR will be 10:00am, Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main Street, Aberdeen. Dr. Harold E. Salem will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. Beverly died on November 10, 2010 at her home in Oregon City.

Beverly Lou Dickey was born April 20, 1930 in Mellette SD, to Harvey and Mary (Arthurs) Dickey. This is the area where she grew up and attended grade school followed by graduation from Aberdeen Central High school.

Bev than relocated to Oregon City Oregon, where she married William (Bill) Cook in 1971. Bev was a mother, wife, grandmother and friend as well as a homemaker, artist and business woman. She was creative and a life-long learner.

In the middle years of her life, she began pursueing her interests as an artist. She took classes learning to make porcelain dolls. She also enjoyed creating lamp shades. Her interest in lampshades led Bev and Bill to start their own business in the late seventies and early eighties called Beverly’s Shade Shop which was located in southeast Portland OR.

Bev was also creative at home. She loved her flowers and scrap booking. She was a gifted cook and decorator especially during the holidays. Bev was a woman who loved to get involved, and would often help Bill with his projects. She was known as a very caring woman and willing to give all that she had.

Bev and Bill made many memories together that will sustain Bill in the days and years to come. Bill was faithful in caring for Bev, especially in her latter years with her increased health issues. Bill was grateful to be able to care for her in their own home in Oregon City until the time of her passing.

Beverly was preceded in death by her sister Bernice Rawstern and brother-in law Elias.

WALTER RONALD “RON” HARTMAN

The funeral service for Walter Ronald “Ron” Hartman, 68 of Aberdeen, will be 10:00am, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Kevin Zilverberg and Father David Janes, Celebrants. Ron died Thursday March 7, 2011 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Burial at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.

Visitation is 1-6pm, Tuesday, April 12, with Wake Service and Rosary at 6pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, SD.

FRED F. REUER

The funeral services for Fred F. Reuer, 96, of Parkside Retirement Community, Aberdeen will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Tanya Rist officiating. Burial will be Sunset Memorial with military honors by the Sidney L. Smith Legion Post 24. Fred passed away on April 9, 2011, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 1-7 pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 with family present from 5-7 pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.

Fred was born August 8, 1914, on the family farm near Lowry, SD, to Christian & Christina (Rueb) Reuer. He attended rural school while working on the family farm, where he learned a strong work ethic he carried through his entire life. He finished his education at Hanson Automotive & Electric School in Fargo, ND. Fred served in the US Army from July, 1941, through August, 1943, when he was honorably discharged. Fred joined Nelson Auto Electric, Inc, on his return from the service and became a partner in the company in 1972, retiring in 1983.

He married Helen Melcher on June 24, 1944, in Aberdeen, where they resided for their entire married lives. Fred was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served in many offices and committees. He had been a member of Sidney L. Smith Legion Post 24 for over 50 years and was also a member of the Elks Lodge. Fred & his wife Helen were very involved members of Aberdeen Belles and Beaux Square Dance Club for over 40 years, dancing in many cities and towns across the US & Canada. Fred also served as president of the SD State Square Dance Clubs. Fred & Helen also enjoyed traveling together on their many bus trips throughout the United States.

Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman and a dedicated fan of the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, and NSU Wolves basketball teams.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Helen, one daughter Peggy (Paul) Sandberg of Dubuque, IA, his two granddaughters: Katrina (Mark) Goacher of Denton, TX, and Melanie Sandberg of Cambridge, MA, one great-grandchild expected in November, a brother-in-law Clayton Perman of Mobridge and a sister-in-law Ceil Edrich of Hoven, a sister-in-law Oriole (Calvin) Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and five sisters.

CHRISTINA D. "NINA" HARMS

The funeral service for Christina D. "Nina" Harms, 22, formerly of Aberdeen will be 1pm Friday April 8, 2011 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S Main Street, Aberdeen, with Father William Osborn, Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery, Redfield. Christina died March 25, 2011 at Kearns UT.

Christina Doreen Harms was born August 17, 1988 in Rapid City SD. She was adopted by Ken and Linda Harms of Aberdeen where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 2007.

Christina enjoyed listening to music, spending time on the computer and time spent with family, especially her daughter Harley. She was known for her smile and loving heart.

Grateful for having shared Christina’s life are her father Ken (Jodi) Harms, Aberdeen, daughter Harley, brother Philip Harms, Aberdeen, grandparents Dean & Rose Harms, Redfield, uncles Randy (Heather) Harms, Sioux Falls, SD and Joey Harms, Huron, SD, aunts Vicki Hopper, Sioux Falls, SD, Bonnie Lewis, TX and Marie (Lyle) Chapin of Luverne, MN.

ALTHEA M. BUECHLER WEISHAAR

Services for Althea M. Buechler Weishaar, 97, Minneapolis and formerly of Aberdeen and Bowdle, SD will be Saturday, April 9, 2011. A visitation will be held at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home 1111 S. Main Street, Aberdeen from 9:00am-10:30am. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm with visitation one hour prior to the service at Lien Funeral Home 3082 S. 2nd Street, Bowdle. Pastor Patrick Hahn will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at Bowdle. Althea passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Redeemer Residence.

Althea M. Hieb was born on September 22, 1913 in Hosmer, SD to Rudolph and Mary (Walth) Hieb. This is the area where she attended school and worked on the family farm.

Althea was united in marriage to Herman Buechler on October 24, 1935. The couple made their home and farmed west of Bowdle until his death on January 12, 1950. Althea resided in Bowdle where she worked as a custodian at various businesses until 1968 when she moved to Aberdeen.

Althea married William Weishaar on April 16, 1979. While in Aberdeen she was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five children; Marvin Buechler, Robert Buechler, Arlene Pfitzer, Marian Buechler and Janet Buechler, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great grandson. The oldest of 13 children, she is also survived by her brother Harry Hieb and sisters Leontina Morlock, Erna Huber and Helen Satmary and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Mary Hieb and two husbands Herman Buechler and William Weishaar.

Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home of Aberdeen and Lien Funeral Home of Bowdle are in charge of arrangements.

DORIS ANGERHOFER

The service for Doris Angerhofer, 82, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30am, Friday, April 1, 2011 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Doris died Sunday, March 27, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 1-7pm, Thursday, with family present from 5-7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

Doris Jean Keller was born August 2, 1928 in Aberdeen, SD to Charles and Elizabeth (Balliet) Keller. This is the area where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Central High School in 1946.

Doris worked at International Harvester Co., and P.A. Bradbury Co. as a secretary. She married Donald Angerhofer December 1, 1948 and became a full time mother. Later she went to work for Riddles.

Doris taught Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Groton. She was a member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. She was involved in the Good Cheer Circle, LWML and Stephen Ministry. She belonged to two bridge clubs and enjoyed golf. Doris volunteered at the schools where her children attended and community functions, the Hospital Auxiliary, Brownies, Girl Scouts and Blue Birds.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Donald, her children, Barbara (Patrick) Kelly, Bloomingdale, IL, Jane (David) Ruhnke, Austin, MN and Nancy (Eugene) Smith, Warner, SD, grandchildren, Shannon (Jeremy) Watts, Joshua (Jennifer) Ruhnke, Johnathan Ruhnke, Nicole (Jared) Callahan, great-grandchildren, William and Morgan Ruhnke.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Marion Mathis and Helen Gunderson.

The family prefers memorials to Lighthouse Preschool.
