Ashley Zephier

SIOUX FALLS -- Ashley Zephier, 8 month old daughter of Barry and Mary Zephier of Sioux Falls, S.D., and formerly of Yankton, S.D., passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 13, 2002, unexpectedly at her home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at the Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with the Rev. John Fischer officiating. Burial will be in the Beaver Creek Cemetery, rural Crofton, Neb.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Zephier, Nadien Zephier, Austin Zephier, Gregory Crossman, Michael Crossman, Wendy Crossman, Joshua Gratzfeld and Leah Gratzfeld.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the Kostel Funeral Chapel.

Ashley was born Feb. 10, 2002, to Barry and Mary (Crossman) Zephier in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Those who will cherish her memory are her parents, Barry and Mary of Sioux Falls; one sister, Kayla Zephier, at home in Sioux Falls; maternal grandparents: Joe and Joyce Gratzfeld of Yankton; and Gregg Crossman of Dallas, Texas; maternal great-grandparents: Arnold and Jeanette Tramp of Yuma, Ariz.; and Walter and Ann Crossman of Palm Coast, Fla.; maternal step-great-grandparents, Joe and Sylvia Gratzfeld of Yankton; and paternal grandmothers: Faith Zephier of Yankton; and Grace Counoyer of Wagner, S.D.

Frieda Doering

SIOUX FALLS -- Frieda Orilla Doering, age 90, formerly of Yankton, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at St. Michael's Parish, Sioux Falls, S.D. with Rev. John Helmueller officiating.

Visitation will be at the church from 10-11 a.m. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton, S.D. with Msgr. Carlton Hermann officiating. Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield, Neb.

Frieda was born on Aug. 12, 1912, to Roscoe and Bertha (King) Beach Buskirk in Bloomfield, Neb. She attended school through the eighth grade in Bloomfield. She married Jesse James Howard on Oct. 10, 1928, in Lake Andes, S.D., by the Justice of the Peace. They had a son, Orval E. Howard of Sequim, Wash. and Mrs. Ray Suitor (Darlene) of Sioux Falls, S.D. She was self-employed as a wallpaper hanger for 16 years. Jesse passed away in 1949. On Aug. 6, 1950, she married Walter Doering at the Methodist Church in Bloomfield, Neb. They farmed northwest of Crofton until 1962 when Walter had a heart attack and had to quit farming so they moved to Bloomfield. Frieda has resided in Sioux Falls from 1990 until her death.

She received Jesus Christ as her personal savior on May 30, 1972.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, World War I Auxiliary and the G.A.R. Hall, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Senior Citizens Center, all of Yankton.

Survivors include a son, Orval (Jan) Howard, Sequim, Wash.; a daughter, Darlene (Ray) Suitor, Sioux Falls, S.D.; a step-daughter, Donna Joslin, Carson, Calif.; two brothers: Virgil Beach, Oregon, and Raymond Beach, Yucca Valley, Calif.; two sisters: Vera Claussen, South Sioux City, Neb.; and Penny Norman.

Frieda was blessed with seven grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and three step-great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Beach and Bertha Buskirk; her first husband, Jesse James Howard; her second husband, Walter Doering; one brother, Roland Beach; two sisters: Mary Everette and Loretta Parkins; two step-sons: James and Charles Doering; and one grandson, Eugene Doering.

Many friends and family will miss Frieda but she is where she wants to be, with our Lord and Savior and all of those who preceded her in death. May she rest in peace.

Gertrude Clark

VERMILLION -- Gertrude Laura (Barton) Clark, 78, Vermillion, died Tuesday (Oct. 15, 2002) at the Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Vermillion. Burial is in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Vermillion.

Visitation begins at noon Friday at the church.

The Hansen Funeral Home, Vermillion, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Oct. 31, 1923, at Philadelphia, Pa. She married James Page Clark in 1944, and moved to Tennessee. She has lived in Vermillion since 1991.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by two daughters: Norma (Jerry) Wilson, Vermillion; Dianne (Bob) Wagner, Crystal River, Fla.; and one son, Dale (Lauren) Clark, Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers; one sister; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or First Baptist Church.

Viola Uecker

CUSTER -- Viola W. Uecker, 93, Custer, died Sept. 28, 2002, at Meadowbrook Manor, Rapid City, as the result of a stroke.

Memorial service was held Oct. 4 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Custer.

The Behrens Mortuary, Rapid City, was in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 1, 1909, at Yankton to Albert A. and Louisa (Bloom) Weiland. She spent her childhood years in Yankton and later taught country school in Yankton County. She then moved to Chicago where she worked for several years as a receptionist. She married the Rev. R.W. Uecker June 7, 1936. The couple resided in Custer until 1964. They then moved to Ada, Minn., and then to Garner, Iowa. Upon her husband's retirement, they moved back to Custer in 1978. Her husband died in 1997.

She is survived by one son, the Rev. Warren W. (Carol) Uecker, Madison; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and four sisters.

Mark Ehrismann

COLSTRIP, Mont. -- Mark Ehrismann, 56, Colstrip, Mont., formerly of Wagner, died Sunday (Oct. 13, 2002) at his home in Colstrip following a battle with brain cancer.

Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner.

Visitation is from 1-7 p.m. today (Friday) and from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home, Wagner.

He was born Dec. 17, 1945, at Wagner to Royal and Javon (Smith) Ehrismann. He spent his youth and attended rural schools in the Wagner area, graduating from Ravinia High School in 1964. He attended Southern State Teachers College, Springfield, graduating in 1968 with a degree in secondary education/social science. He taught school in Bonesteel before moving to St. Mary's, Mont., in 1972. He was a guide at Glacier Park. In the fall of 1972, he moved to Dillon, Mont., where he worked at Pfizer's Talc. He received his EMT certification, being one of the first in Montana to receive the EMT National certification. He also attended Western Montana College, receiving a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He resumed his teaching career at Brady, Mont., Polaris, Mont., and finally Colstrip in 1985, where he taught in the Colstrip School system. He married Joan Gronlund April 24, 1993, at Colstrip. He retired due to health reasons in 2001.

He was active with the Colstrip Volunteer Fire Department. He also obtained his private pilot's license and was involved with the Civil Air Patrol, being certified in Mountain Rescue. He was a member of the MEA, Miles City Elks Lodge, past board member of the Yellowstone Teachers Credit Union. He was also an avid hunter and especially enjoyed the mounting, mainly the East Fork of the Blacktail.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, Colstrip; his parents, Royal and Javon Ehrismann, Wagner; one brother, Randy Ehrismann, Sioux Falls; one sister, Karen Wiechmann, Wagner; his parents-in-law, Arden and Marilyn Gronlund, Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents

Mary Guthmiller

SIOUX FALLS -- Mary Guthmiller, 82, Sioux Falls, died Thursday (Oct. 17, 2002) at the Good Samaritan Village.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Burial is in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Sioux Falls.

Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5-8 p.m., at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.

She was born July 16, 1920, in Yankton County to Earl and Maude (Young) Stone. She attended school in Gayville and graduated from Southern Normal Teachers College, Springfield. She taught in the Menno area for 10 years. She married Sam Guthmiller July 16, 1948. They lived in Yankton for a short time and then moved to Sioux Falls. She worked in the kitchen at the Veterans Hospital, Sioux Falls for 10 years. Her husband died in 1976.

She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friend, vacationing, reading and keeping up on current events.

She is survived by two daughters: Donna Guthmiller and Deb (Brian) Shaw, all of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren; special daughters: Gloria, Julie and Jane; one sister, Dorothy Nelson, O'Neill, Neb.; one brother, John Stone, Minneapolis, Minn.; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and three sisters.

Clarice Fedderson

BERESFORD -- Clarice M. Fedderson, 83, Beresford, died Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2002) at Bethesda Nursing Home, Beresford.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. today (Friday) at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, with the Rev. Chad Brucklacher officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are Troy Fedderson, Daniel Fedderson, Don Carlson, Douglas Fedderson, Douglas Ellefson, Ron Carlson, Gary Carlson and Adam Mulder.

The Wass Funeral Home, Beresford, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 3, 1919, near Volin to Bernt and Anna (Anderson) Ellefson. She attended West Prairie and Lindberg rural schools in Yankton County. She married Kenneth Fedderson March 16, 1940. They lived in the Alsen area where they farmed. They moved to Beresford in 1970. Her husband died in 1999 and she continued to reside in Beresford.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Trondhjem Lutheran Church and later became a member of Roseni Lutheran, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, Mission's Society and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Nite-N-Gal Extension Club.

She enjoyed bowling, playing dominos, crocheting and collecting bells; and was known as a wonderful cook and hostess.

She is survived by two sons: K. James (Joyce), Marshall, Minn.; David (Donna), Beresford; two daughters: Shirley (Clarence) Mulder, Huron; and Sherilyn (Harold) Tott, Sioux City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Judy Johnson, Sioux Falls; Olive Johnson, Tulsa, Okla.; and Lois Carlson, Beresford; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant son, one daughter-in-law, one sister and one brother.

Karen Weiss

DIMOCK -- Karen Weiss, 59, Dimock, died Thursday (Oct. 17, 2002) at Avera St. Benedict Hospital, Parkston.

Services are pending with the Clements-Wiese Funeral Home, Parkston.

Michael Fischer

WAGNER -- Michael B. Fischer, 33, Wagner, died Friday (Nov. 1, 2002) at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, after a battle with cancer.

Funeral mass is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Wager. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner.

Visitation is from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today (Monday) at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home, Wagner. Rosary/wake services are 7 p.m. today at the church.

He was born June 6, 1969, at Sioux City, Iowa, to Jerome and Angie (Flammang) Fischer. He graduated from Wagner High School in 1987, SDSU in 1991 and USD School of Law in 1997. He completed his summer internship from May-August 1997, for Tom Daschle in Washington. He was admitted to practice law by the South Dakota Supreme Court on Oct. 2, 1997. He was employed with Anderson Law Office, Wagner, from August 1997-February 2002. He was presently employed with the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation. He was also a real estate broker and a managing member of Lake Francis Realty. He married Sandra Slaba Aug. 13, 1994, at Geddes. They lived in Wagner.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and chairman of Charles Mix County Board of Mental Health. He was a former member of the Labor Day Committee and Wagner Fire Department.

He will be remember for card collecting. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, the New York Yankees and the Nebraska Huskers and loved his family softball team.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, Wagner; parents, Jerome and Angie Fischer, Wagner; brother Dan, Sioux Falls; sisters: Julie Soulek, Chamberlain, and Christie, Vermillion; parents-in-law, Dave and Pat Slaba, Geddes; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and two uncles.

Ross Frazier

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Ross Elliot Frazier, 26, of Bloomington, Minn., and formerly of Yankton, died Friday (Nov. 1, 2002) at his home in Bloomington as the result of an apartment fire.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Ray, Cantrell and Wintz Funeral Home, Yankton.
