ROBERT “BOB” GEAREY

Services for Robert “Bob” Gearey, 83, Aberdeen are 1 pm, Saturday, February 18, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Bob died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Manor Care Health Services.

Visitation will be from 1-7 pm, Friday at the funeral home.

Robert A. Gearey was born March 12, 1928 in Jamestown, ND to Warren and Emma (Gensberg) Gearey. He was raised and attended school in Aberdeen. Bob served in the Army from 1950 – 1952 where he worked in the kitchen. In 1954 Bob married Susan Marlene Imberi in Webster, SD. They made their home in Aberdeen for a few years but soon moved to Tacoma Park until 1997 when they moved back to Aberdeen.

Bob had many jobs throughout his career ranging from Eddie and Cox’ Bakery, International Harvester Company, sales for Smith Truck Sales, a mechanic for Brick’s Skelgas and Biegler’s as well as transporting for the hospital. Bob would often hire himself out to till local gardens for additional income.

Throughout Bob & Susan’s marriage, they had an incredible garden. People would come from all over North and South Dakota for Gearey’s Garden vegetables. They loved taking long family vacations and never missed a county or state fair. He enjoyed fishing, and ice fishing where he would scoop nets of bullheads. He also loved to hunt but he wasn’t a good shot. When long time friends, Regulas, would come to visit, Bob and John would go to the river for ice to make homemade ice cream. All the kids would take turns cranking the ice cream maker. He always needed to be busy working on cars, the garden or rentals that he owned.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Susan Gearey, daughters Judy Coleman, Sartel, MN, Michelle (Corey) Bunke, Aberdeen, three grandsons, Joe Coleman, Aberdeen, Nick Coleman, Rapid City, and Coltan Bunke, Aberdeen, one great-granddaughter, Eva, Rapid City, and one sister, Anita Gearey, Minneapolis, MN.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Warren and Emma Gearey, daughter, Charlotte Gearey, brothers; Harlan Gearey, Richard Gearey, Harvey Gearey, sisters; Ruby Seura and Beverly Gearey.

ADOLPH SPERLE

The funeral service for Adolph Sperle, 88, of Aberdeen, will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2012 at First Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Gary Wileman officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Adolph died Monday, February 13, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation is 1-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., on Wednesday, February 15, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home 1111 S. Main St.

Adolph Sperle was born March 28, 1923 in Ashley, ND to Gottlob and Christina (Merkle) Sperle. He attended school in rural Eureka, SD. Adolph worked on the family farm until he joined the Army in 1941 until 1944 where he served during World War II. When he returned from the army he met a blond named Olivia Schock and on October 20, 1946 they were married. In 1955 they moved to Aberdeen and he went to work for Kessler’s until he retired in 1987.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Olivia two children, Shirley (Mike) Sommers and Brenda (Paul) Coats, five grandchildren: Mike (Carol) Sommers, Jr., Pat (Gina) Sommers, Amanda (Justin) Curtis, Cora (Travis) Riter, & Nathan Coats, and twelve great grandchildren, Austin, Carley, Brandon, Paige, Braden, Alec, Erin, Megan, Elizabeth, Lillian, Dominick and Kiera who were the love of his life. He loved them and they loved their “Pa Pa” and “G Pa”, siblings, Otto Sperle, Ervin Sperle, Emma Wolfe and Esther Gienger.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Gottlob and Christina Sperle, siblings, Gottlieb Sperle, Ted Sperle, Oscar Sperle, Lydia Lammele, Irene Schneider, Emila Gaglareie and Ida Mastel.

HIRAM KUSLER

Services for Hiram Kusler, 82, Aberdeen, are 2 pm, Friday, February 17, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church: Pastor Tanya Rist officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Hiram died on Monday, February 13 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation: 1-7 pm, Thursday with family present from 5-7pm, and a prayer service at 7 pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.

Hiram Kusler was born July 20, 1929 to John & Amelia (Maier) Kusler at Leola. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Emanuel Lutheran Church, Long Lake.

Hiram graduated from Leola High School in 1947. He attended Northern State University.

On October 4, 1949 he married Lorraine Schmitt at Roscoe. Hiram taught rural school in the Leola & Long Lake area.

In 1950, they moved to Aberdeen, where he was employed at Fritz Forseth Insurance Agency. In 1955, they moved to Rapid City. They moved back to Aberdeen in 1957, and Hiram worked for Dornbush Agency, Reed-Johnston Insurance and Real Estate Agency becoming a partner in 1968. In 1978 he became owner of the Dakota Claims Service. In 1983, he managed Gerharter Insurance Agency.

In 1990, Hiram was employed at Simmons Middle School and Hub City Transit, retiring November 25, 2003.

He was Vice President of SD Association of Mutual Agents, a member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, singing in the choir, ushered and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Aberdeen Area Senior Center. Hiram sang with the Men’s Friendship Group and enjoyed coffee with his brothers and friends. He was an avid pool player. He loved attending sporting events, especially those of his children and grandchildren. Hiram cherished his family and friends. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Grateful for having shared Hiram’s life are his wife, Lorraine, sons, Nolan (Joy) Kusler, Omaha; Joel (Barb) Kusler, Rapid City; Paul (Stacey) Kusler, Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Kristi (Jim); Jason; Taylor & Connor; Austin, Adam, Aaron; Parker; great grandson, Dominik; and brothers, Howard (Berni) Kusler; Ervin (Elaine) Kusler; Myron (Mabel) Kusler, Ernie (Joey) Kusler.

Preceded in death by parents; grandparents; two nephews.

PHYLLIS WELLS

Services for Phyllis Krikac Wells, 85, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Plymouth Congregational Church with Pastor Jill Warner officiating. Burial at Riverside Memorial Park. Phyllis died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Bethesda Home.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Spitzer-Miller Fellowship Hall.

Phyllis Leone Lillemoe was born on February 13, 1926, near Frankfort, SD the daughter of John and Agnes (Ugland) Lillemoe. She attended school in the Conde/Brentford area and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD in 1944.

After a year at Northern State Teachers College, Phyllis taught at Fairview, SD. She then obtained her two-year degree from NSTC and taught at Canton for two years. In 1950 she graduated from Northern with a BS degree in physical education and minors in art and music.

She was united in marriage on February 14, 1950 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Canton, SD to William K. Krikac. They met in the Lincoln Dining Hall where she worked on the NSTC campus.

The couple spent the next 40 years together in Aberdeen where Bill was the business manager at Northern. Phyllis raised her four children and taught elementary in the Aberdeen School system in the 1960’s and 70’s. Bill died on March 2, 1990.

She was united in marriage on May 19, 1998 at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Aberdeen to John Wells.

Phyllis enjoyed traveling and went to Norway, homeland of both her parents, five times. She traveled there with both husbands and her grandchildren. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage.

She was very active in the Plymouth Congregational Church in Aberdeen where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir for over 40 years and played in the bell choir for over 30 years and held other church offices.

Her activities were many, including NSU Faculty Wives, Aberdeen Retired Teachers Association, Sons of Norway, PEO. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, where she served as state treasurer, and received the Alpha Pi achievement state honor. In 1994 Phyllis was honored as First Lady of Aberdeen by Beta Sigma Phi.

She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and she especially enjoyed music and playing piano. She walked to Hardee’s every day with her special friend, Glenna Fouberg.

Phyllis lived in the same house on S. 1st in Aberdeen from 1954 to 2009.

She was a NSU supporter/booster of music, athletics and memorial scholarships.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Beth Auwarter of Breckenridge, MN, son, Bill (Betty) Krikac of Clark, grandchildren Eric (Fernanda) Auwarter, Mt. Vernon, WA, Collin Auwarter, Abercrombie, ND, Jackie (Greg) Larson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Rachel (Ben) Pierson, Dell Rapids, Billy Krikac, Sioux Falls, Becky Scott, Rapid City, Sarah (Jordan) VanBerkum, Aberdeen, SD, Natalie (Brian) Murphy, Volga and Sonny (Aimie) Law, Faulkton, great grandchildren Charlie, Grady, Alissa, Taylor, Julia, Zoe, Caleb, Abbie, Chloe and Jack, sisters Josephine (Morris) Burch of Custer, Orinne Hagen of Webster, and Marguerite (Jack) Bergren of Mound, MN and daughter-in-law Joanie Krikac, Rapid City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill in 1990, her husband John in 2010, her sister Frances Twedt, son Keith Krikac, son Dan Krikac, granddaughter Jennifer Krikac and son-in-law Gordon Auwarter.

MILDRED “MILLIE” EUNICE WILLIAMS

Millie “Millie” Dunker Williams, 87, formerly of Brentford, SD, died Sunday, February 11, 2012 at Dow Rummel Villate in Sioux Falls.

Arrangements are pending with Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

LUELLA L. FEIOCK

Services for Luella L. Feiock, 88, Aberdeen will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Battey officiating. Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Luella died Sunday, February 12, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home 1111 S. Main St.

Luella L. Steiger was born on August 18, 1923 to Albert and Christina (Stoecker) Steiger on the family farm near Leola, SD. She attended school in Leola, graduating in 1942. After receiving her education, Luella taught at rural schools in McPherson County for three years.

Luella married Elmer Feiock on July 4, 1944 at her parent’s farm near Leola, and had three sons added to this union. They raised their family on a farm near Leola until moving to Aberdeen in 1968. They purchased rental property in Aberdeen and managed it together for 32 years. Luella worked at Control Data for 17 years.

Luella was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Aberdeen. Church was a very important part of her life and she served with Ladies Mission Society, was a Deaconess, and taught Sunday school. Luella enjoyed embroidering and growing flowers. She was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her delicious apple pies and Kuchen. Luella’s strong faith and love for God is a legacy that she has passed on to her family. She loved to spend time with her family and especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Luella’s life are her husband, Elmer, Aberdeen, three sons, Les (Connee) Feiock, Harrisburg, SD, Stan (Lupe) Feiock, Phoenix, AZ, and Elmo (Myra) Feiock, Aberdeen, four grandchildren, Jason Feiock, Jeff (Ann Marie) Feiock, Jon (Megan) Feiock, all of Sioux Falls, and Chad Feiock, Powell, TN, seven great grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel, Madelyn, Robert, Maria, Jack, and Sophia Feiock, and sisters, Olivia Schaible and Lorraine Fauth, Aberdeen.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Christina Steiger.

The family prefers memorials to Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

MILDRED A. JENSEN

The funeral service for Mildred A. Jensen, 89, Aberdeen is 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Mildred died Wednesday, February 8, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Visitation is from 1-7 p.m., Friday, February 10, with family present from 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mildred Alice Quandahl was born on October 11, 1922 to Nels and Melissa (Curtis) Quandahl at Groton, SD. She grew up and attended school in the Verdon and Groton area. Mildred graduated from high school in Conde, SD. She would often tell of the time she went to the theatre in Groton to see Gone with the Wind when it was first released. After graduating, Mildred worked at a café in Groton and it was there that she met her husband of over 51 years, Ben Jensen. They were married on October 11, 1944 at Groton. They farmed in the area until 1960 when they moved to Mansfield, SD. In 1968 they moved to Aberdeen. Mildred began babysitting in her home.

After moving to Aberdeen, Mildred enjoyed flower gardening and was especially fond of her flowers. She moved to her home on Prospect Avenue in Aberdeen in 2001. Reading was a favorite pastime of hers. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Mildred spent several winters in Florida with her daughter Norma and grandchildren. Mildred’s greatest joy came from time spent with her family and she truly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately named her GG.

Grateful for having shared Mildred’s life are her son, Donald (Ruby) Jensen, Eden, SD, two daughters, Norma (Bob) Ozley, Flemming Island, FL, and Linda (Duane) Rogers, Aberdeen, her grandchildren, Jackie (John) Morrison and their daughter Samantha, Jeffrey (Shelly) Stanley and their children, Kyle, Ryan and Elizabeth, step-grandchildren, Shelly (Paul) Steiner and their children, CJ and Alex, and Ron Nehls and his daughter Nichole, and one sister, Patricia Quandahl, Long Beach, CA.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, parents, Nels and Melissa and brother, Duane Quandahl.

MARY R. PERRY

There will be no Aberdeen services for Mary R. Perry, 89, of Aberdeen. There will be family services held in California.

Mary died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at ManorCare Health Services, Aberdeen.

RALPH LUTTER

Funeral services for Ralph Lutter, 93, Ashton, SD, will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at First Assembly of God Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Gary Wileman officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 pm, Saturday at the Ashton Cemetery, Ashton. Ralph died Tuesday, February 7, at his home near Ashton.

Visitation will be from 1-7:00 pm with family present from 5-7:00 pm Friday, February 10 at the Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home Fellowship Hall, located directly east of the funeral home.

Ralph Hubert Lutter was born on June 3, 1918 to Adam and Alice (Woodruff) Lutter at their family home in rural Ashton. He graduated from Ashton High School with the class of 1937. Ralph was accepted into SD School of Mines and Technology. Due to the Depression, he did not attend college, but remained at home to become a joint partner in the family farm. On June 3, 1948 he married Jeanette Miller in Aberdeen. They made their home on the family farm near Ashton. They had four children.

Ralph was a charter member of the Redfield Assembly of God Church where he was a past Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and was active in other church functions. He was also a member of First Assembly of God Church, Aberdeen.

After many years of farming and raising live stock, Ralph and Jeanette enjoyed traveling, site seeing and visiting their children and grandchildren throughout the US and Europe.

Grateful for having shared Ralph’s life are his children, Kathy Hunt, Betty (Alan) Kruse, Patricia (David) Laughlin, Robert (Linda) Lutter, grandchildren, Stephanie (K.C.) Hildenbrand, Jamie (Chris) Phillips, Kari (Keegan) Bullis, Tricia Laughlin, Katie Laughlin, Alexia (Nathan) Mills, Alisha (Eric) Nixon, Adrianna, Jesse and Joseph, great grandchildren, Tyler, Emma, Claire, Avery, Carson, Cooper, Landon, Broden, Jacob, and Samantha.

Ralph is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, parents, Adam and Alice Lutter, sister, Arlene Fortin and baby sister.

DOROTHY ELSEN

Services for Dorothy Elsen, 75, of Hecla, SD will be 10:30, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Jay Haaland officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Dorothy died Sunday, February 5, at her home.

Visitation will be from 1:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday with family present from 5:00 – 7:00 pm and a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home 1111 S. Main St.

Dorothy Fuller was born October 9, 1936 to Edward and Ada (Hill) Fuller at Ludden, ND where she attended school through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Donnley Elsen on January 31, 1955 at the parsonage in Hecla, SD. They made their home on a farm west of Hecla.

She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, reading, watching television, listening to country music, and attending many music concerts. Dorothy was an especially big fan of Elvis, George Strait, Ricky VanShelton and Vince Gill. Her favorite actress was Elizabeth Taylor. Dorothy and Donnley enjoyed going to many horseshoe tournaments most of all and working in the fields. She enjoyed spending time with her large family. Dorothy especially enjoyed reminiscing with her siblings. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hecla. She just recently became cancer free.

Celebrating her life are her husband, Donnley Elsen, her children; Dale (Rhonda) Elsen, Britton, Dawn (Allen) Skoglund, Greeley, CO, Duane (Julie) Elsen, Britton, Dustan (Leela) Elsen, Clark, Darren (Tami) Elsen, Aberdeen, Denise (Greg) VandeKamp, Aberdeen, Danelle Elsen (Ryan Bonsall), Tea, SD, thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, four sisters; Pat (Bob) Blazer, Havre, MT, Marie Cloud (Don Zamzow), Minden, NV, Betty (Dave) Revard, Ventura, CA, Bonnie (Calvin) Reamer, Oakes, ND, and one brother; Andy Fuller, Carson City, NV.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Ada Fuller, her sister, Myrtle McGrath, her brother, Joe Fuller, granddaughter, Stephanie Elsen and grandson Devin Elsen.
