Vasilo Hampton, 77
Vasilo Louise Hampton died Saturday morning in Butte.
She was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Butte, the daughter of Louie and Kattina Angelous. She was raised in Butte and graduated from Central High school. She worked for Hennessy's Department Store for 10 years.
She loved animals and her family and friends.
Vasilo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lane and Cy Thiefault; grandchildren, William W. and John L. Porritt, Debbie Foster, Karen and Joyce Anderson; great-grandchildren, Stevie, Justin and Stephen Porritt; and close friends, Chris Carter, Jessica Floen and Madalyn Carter.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Duggan Dolan Mortuary. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Harold `Jim' Miller Sr., 76
BELGRADE -- Harold James ``Jim'' Miller Sr., of Belgrade, died at home Thursday.
He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Bozeman to Harold and Sarah (Gee) Miller. Jim lived his entire live in the Gallatin Valley. He graduated from Belgrade High School in 1943, and served in the Army in World War II. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver, driving for Kessler Dairy and Sweetheart Bakery.
Jim was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, farming, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Oscar Callantine; brother-in-law, Jim Callantine; grandson, Robert Glenn Miller; and son-in-law, Jim Armold.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Belgrade; daughters, Carol Jensen, Leah (Frank) Schimetz, all of Belgrade; sons, Harold Miller Jr., Sam (Janie) Miller, all of Whitehall; mother-in-law, Evaline Mitchell of Churchill; sisters, Lil (Archie) Meeks of Kansas, Darlene (John) Speece of Pennsylvania, Mary Ellen Fitzgerald of Bozeman, Charlotte (Stan) Mills of Utah; brothers, Robert (Alice) Miller, Dean (Shirley) Miller, all of Belgrade.
A graveside memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bozeman's Sunset Memorial Garden. A reception will follow in the Manhattan Legion Hall.

Leo Mock, 72
Leo Richard Mock died peacefully at his residence in Butte on Monday, surrounded by his loving family.
Leo was born on Feb. 21, 1929, in Butte, the son of Lester and Erma (Richards) Mock.
Leo was educated at the Blaine School before attending schools in Utah. After graduation, he proudly served for 15 years in the Navy. While in Navy, he met the great love of his life, Dixie Cloward. They were married in Bremerton, Wash., on March 22, 1952, and remained lifelong companions .
Leo was employed by Silver Bow County in the Weed Control Division until he became a foreman for the Forest Service. With his deep love of the mountains, he remained with the Forest Service until his retirement.
Leo belonged to the Disabled American Veterans. When not with his family, Leo enjoyed collecting fossil rocks and spending time in the Highlands. He had many talents, including building doll houses complete with detailed furniture. Leo brought many hours of joy to his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, James Meade; and sister, Echo Nilmeier.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Dixie; daughters and sons-in-law, Paget and Ken Godman, Layne and Tom Mantha, and Tawnya Mock, all of Butte; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Raquel Mock of Hamilton; grandchildren, Chris and Karen Godman of Wyoming, Jennifer Godman, Brian Godman, Aaryn and Bill Andrene, Dustin Mantha, all of Butte, and Alex Mock of Hamilton; great-grandchild, Tyler Andrene of Butte; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean and Stan Brelin and Jake and Betty Cloward; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his cousin, Jane Collins.
At Mr. Mock's request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
Memorials: Highlands Hospice or donor's choice.
Duggan Dolan Mortuary is in charge.

Dolly Casagranda, 97
Gladys ``Dolly'' Casagranda died Tuesday at St. James Healthcare.
She was born Oct. 14, 1904, in Butte to John and Nora Scott. She attended the Longfellow school and Butte Business College. She worked as a secretary to Pat and Bill Gaegon until her retirement. She has resided at Butte Convalescent Center.
Dolly married Guido Casagranda in Butte, Oct. 20, 1925. Guido died April 23, 1979. She is also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Henry Scott and John Scott, and sisters, Mary Burkard, Annie Thomas and Josephine Dougherty.
She enjoyed time spent with her family. She also enjoyed rock hunting and fishing.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Earl and Louise Casagranda of Butte, Clyde and Anna Casagranda of Townsend; grandchildren, Andy Casagranda, Glen Casagranda, Norman Casagranda, Gary Casagranda, Nancy Bossard, Judy Lobb, Rita Weightman, Bob Casagranda and Joe Casagranda.
Relatives and friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday in Duggan Dolan Mortuary, with Parish Vigil Services following at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services are at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the mortuary. Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials: charity of donor's choice.

Mabel Worth, 86
Mabel Worth died Monday evening at St. James Healthcare.
She was born in Butte on Oct. 19, 1915, to James and Beatrice (Martin) Bennetts. She received her education in Butte schools.
She was a member of the PTA for many years, the First Presbyterian Church, and she enjoyed crocheting, reading and her miniature doll house.
She married Albert Worth in Butte in 1937. He died in 1975. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ethel Whisner, Evelyn Nigg, Betty Edwards and Dorothy Tregidga, and by her brother, Bill Bennetts.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ross Beecher and Judy and Bernie Shelton, all of Butte, Donna Worth, Whitehall; son and daughter-in-law, Albert ``Bud'' and Lydia Worth, Idaho Falls; grandchildren, Theresa Voss, Sandra Riley, Joel ``Jeb'' Beecher, David Shelton, Michael Shelton, Larry Shelton, Philip Shelton, Ben Worth and Julie Potter; great-grandchildren, Kandi Voss, Shawn Voss, Colin Riley, Raven Shelton and Haley Ann Potter; sister and brother-in law, Grace and Gus Schreiber, Dillon; sister, Sylvia Bennetts, Butte; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Su Bennetts, Butte.
Her remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home where no wake or visitation is planned. Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. Friday, and join the family for funeral services at 11 a.m., the Rev. Lanny Rounds officiating. Interment: Sunset Memorial Park.

Catherine Lee, 88
Catherine Marie Lee died Wednesday in Spokane.
She was born in Butte Sept. 25, 1913, and married Hugh Lee in 1937. She retired from the Butte School District in the 1980s and moved to Spokane in 1995.
Catherine is survived by her son, Robert Lee and wife Judy of Spokane; daughter, Catherine Hauger of Spokane and Richard Hauger of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jodi and Dean, Jeff, Leanne and Jerry, Kristen and Henk, Janice, Jeff and Mimi, Todd and Jill; great-grandchildren Tate and Hailee, Corey and Katie, Courtney and Bryan, and Drew and Derek; sister, Mary Bureson of Arizona; sister-in-law, Alice Sustarsic and husband Ludie; and numerous other relatives and friends who gave her lots of tender loving care.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh in 1958; grandson, Austin Lee; sister, Marg Brennan; brothers, Connie Boyle, James Boyle, Tom Boyle, Ed Boyle, John Boyle, and longtime companion John Kremer.
Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte in the spring of 2002. Memorials: Our Lady of the Rockies or to hospice.
Spokane Cremation and Burial Service handled arrangements.

Jack Frost Sr.
In memoriam
Jack N. Frost Sr. died Friday in Crest Nursing Home in Butte.
He received his education in Oregon. Jack served in the Army during World War II. He then returned to Newport, Ore., and worked for the county road department until he retired. After his retirement he lived in Nevada, Idaho and Wyoming before coming to Butte in 1997 to be near his family. He loved to fish and go camping.
Jack is survived by his son, Jack Nelson Frost Jr. of Sparks, Nev.; stepdaughters, Sunnie Collins of Butte, Sally Bunger of Tucson, Ariz., Charlene Fredrick of Vancouver, Wash., Marlene Baker of Carlin Nev., Toni Babcock and Loni Driller, both of Coeur d'Alene, Michelle Hedgecok of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash., Rosalie Bramsen of Moses Lake, Wash.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Gerald Ohde, 54
In memoriam
Gerald ``Goofy'' Ohde died at this home.
He was born in Maple Lake, Minn., on Jan. 14, 1948, and attended school there. Upon graduation he joined the Marine Corps from which he was honorably discharged and was very proud of his service record, which included service in Vietnam.
Upon completing military duties, he returned to Minnesota where he worked in foundries for several years before moving to Bullhead City, Ariz., where he was injured and went on disability.
Ohde loved to travel, but after visiting the Mining City, he fell in love with Butte and called Butte home. Ohde met Marian Graber and fell in love again, and they were wed in 1991.
Ohde loved people, animals and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marian in November 2001, parents, and a twin sister in Minnesota.
He will always be loved and remembered by everyone who knew him, especially Barry Du Bois, Ed ``Doc'' Du Bois, Clancy Du Bois, Walter Carl and his many close friends.
`` May God bless him forever.''
Burial services were in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Irene Grosso, 83
In memoriam
Irene Johnson Wheeler Grosso died Wednesday in Belle Fourche, S.D., where she had been in a nursing home for the past four-and- a-half years as the result of a stroke.
She was born to George and Barbara Ann Johnson in Sheridan, Wyo., on Dec. 12, 1919. Her family later moved to Meeker, Colo., where she grew up and attended school. She married Charles L. Wheeler in 1933, and they made their home in Butte in 1945. They were married for 37 years before he died in 1971. She later married Bert Grosso, and they were together for 15 years before he died in 1993.
Irene loved her family dearly. She is survived by her daughters, Isabel and George Yates of Butte and Suzanne and Dennis Koski of St. Onge, S.D.; brother, George Lewis Johnson of Davenport, Iowa; 17 wonderful grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by a daughter and son; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one sister; and four brothers.
She would always welcome her family and friends with warmth and love and a sparkling smile. She was also dedicated to her faith and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She will be sadly missed.
Her remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home, where friends may call beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home under the auspices of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Cressie Alley, 86
WHITEHALL -- Cressie Alley died Friday in Butte.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Whitehall. Interment will follow in the Whitehall Cemetery.
Cressie was born near Cardwell Dec. 12, 1914. She lived all her life in Butte, Boulder, Whitehall at Pipestone Hot Springs and Helena.
She was an active Republican and a member of the Eastern Star. Cressie belonged to the Whitehall Saddle Club, V Club, Helena Garden Club and Whitehall Bowling League. She enjoyed gardening, collecting china and glassware, history, reading, politics and jury duty.
She was preceded in death by an infant son; parents, Roy and Lydia Edwards; brother, Henry ``Dutch'' Edwards; aunts, Mabel Manion and Pearl Rogers; and husband, John C. Alley.
Cressie is survived by her children and their spouses, Carol Douglas, Libby, Jim and Nancy Alley, Jennifer and Don Hoerauf, and Jeff and Leslie Alley, all of Whitehall; grandchildren, Steve Douglas, Vancouver, Wash., Bob Hoerauf, Whitehall, Dawn Douglas, Hoboken, N.J., Robyn Hoerauf, Helena, Jim Alley, Bozeman, Kevin Alley, Butte, Eric Alley and Chris Alley, attending Montana State University at Bozeman, and Tara Alley, Whitehall; great-grandchildren, Danyelle and Isabella Douglas, Vancouver, and Dillon and Dawson Hoerauf, Whitehall.
Memorials: Shriner's Hospital, Trinity United Methodist Church of Whitehall, or charity of the donor's choice.
Scott Funeral Home of Whitehall is in charge of arrangements.

Judy Connolly, 63
ANACONDA -- Judy Lee Connolly died Thursday evening at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula after suffering a massive stroke.
She was born June 2, 1938, in Glasgow, to Clayton and Tomina (Smette) Goheen. In 1949 the family moved to Anaconda. Judy graduated from Anaconda High School in 1956 and attended Butte Business College.
In 1958, she married William Connolly at the Anaconda Our Savior Lutheran Church. Judy was a devoted wife and mother of their two sons.
She belonged to the Hope Lutheran Church and enjoyed painting, ceramics, needle work and doll collecting, but her greatest love was spending time with family, especially her three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband William, Anaconda; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kora, Laurel, and Mark and Kristie, Anaconda; grandchildren, Heather, Dustin and Nathan; mother, Tomina Goheen, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law, Wes and Amy Goheen, Marysville, Wash.; aunt and uncle, Lois and Sandy Twitchell, Coeur d'Alene; sister-in-law Marie and husband Floyd Larkin, Deer Lodge; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church. Interment will be in New Hill Cemetery.
Memorials: Hope Lutheran Church or donor's choice.

Betty Osborne, 79
Elizabeth Ann ``Betty'' Osborne died Friday morning at St. James Healthcare.
She was born in Lewistown on July 21, 1922, one of 14 children to Thomas and Cecil (Perry) Hawkins. Of her childhood, she always said, ``The first one up was the best one dressed.''
Her formal education took place in Whitehall, until she married William John Osborne on July 26, 1938. They loved and laughed through raising four children and 58 years of marriage until John's passing in 1996.
She was a longtime Butte resident until moving to Whitehall in 1998 to be closer to her daughter.
Betty enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, camping, a good joke and a touch of R&R. Her hearty laugh and quick wit made her special and she will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents; grandson, Frank Rogers; brothers, Joey, Bob and Bill Hawkins; sisters, Ester Hawkins and Corrinne Finnell.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Sharon and Steve and Janet Osborne, Butte; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Rich Choquette, Whitehall, and Jonni Beth Hernandez, Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren, Tami Daly, Bill Osborne, Michelle Verall, Todd Choquette, Beth Halvorsen, Shera Konen, Lori Layne, Brittany Choquette, Jonette Marshall, Dawnelle Hernandez, Brandi Hernandez, Chris Bargman, Rick Osborne, Shawn LaMere, Shelly Weldon and Tanya LaMere; 41 great-grandchildren, one greatgreat-grandchild, Conner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Taylor, Martha and Bill Clover, Dovie and Ray Peel, and Nancy and Wally Landon; brother and sisters-in-law, Tom and Ruth, George and Mae, Jerry and Joan, and Harry and Charlotte Hawkins; special friends, Rick and Cori Bishop, Whitehall, and Jim and Joyce Ruckdaschel, Butte.
Betty left a legacy to her loved ones of ``Work hard, laugh a lot, and meet trouble head on with fire in your eyes.''
At her request, there will be no services. She will be cremated and her ashes spread on the Madison River with her beloved John. A private family service will follow. Memorials: charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Scott's Funeral Home, Whitehall.
