William Lloyd MacConnell
Funeral service for William Lloyd MacConnell, 54, of Sioux Falls, SD were held on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the Eddie Robertson American Legion, Veblen, SD with Rev. Ronald Campbell and Senior Catechist John Cloud III officiating. Pallbearers were Glen Wanna, Vincent Azure, Val Azure, David Cloud Jr., George MacConnell, Stanley MacConnell, Chad MacConnell, and Charles MacConnell III. Honorary Pallbearers were "All Vietnam Veterans, and All William's friends and relatives". Pianist was Billy Kohl. Interment was in St. Luke's Episcopal Cemetery, Rural Veblen, SD. Wake services were Thursday, May 10, starting 7:00 p.m. at the Eddie Robertson American Legion, and Friday, May 11, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Charles MacConnell's home, rural Veblen, SD. The Cahill Funeral Home of Sisseton was in charge of arrangements. William was born on July 31, 1946 in Sisseton, SD, to Charles and Olive (Robertson) MacConnell. He grew up in rural Veblen and attended school at Wahpeton Indian School, and the Veblen Public School. Bill married Jackie Wanna in August of 1967. The couple had one son, Glen Wanna. Soon after the wedding, Bill was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Vietnam where he was in the 25th infantry as a field radio mechanic. During his service, Bill was M.I.A. for fourteen days. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Bill received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm for his service. Bill was a member of the Kit Fox Society. Bill returned to the area and worked for the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe as a police officer. In 1974, Bill was married to Germaine Leith. To this union, a daughter, Melissa MacConnell was born. He spent a short period working in Connecticut as a carpenter where he met many friends. Bill was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard, where he served many pow-wow's. Bill helped in the bringing back of the remains of our people, who are in the Smithsonian Institute, in Washington, D. C. Bill resided in the Veblen and Sisseton areas his entire life. Bill passed away on May 9, 2001 in Sioux Falls, SD. William is survived by one son, Glen Wanna of Veblen, SD; one daughter, Melissa and husband Raymond Burris of Keystone, SD; his father, Charles MacConnell of Veblen, SD; Nine siblings, Karen and Jim Giroux of Eagle Butte, SD, Shirley MacConnell, Clifford "Tuffy" and wife Sandy MacConnell, Edith "Dolly" MacConnell, Wesley MacConnell, Marsha and husband Scott LaCroix, Lillian and husband Spencer Wanna, all of Veblen, Gary Crawford of Sioux Falls, and Richard "Tahansi Ponce" Owen of Veblen, SD; six grandchildren, Raini, Moriah, and Raymond Jr. of Keystone, SD; and Tashina, Gwen, Glen Jr. of Veblen, SD and many nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his wife, Germaine; mother, Olive; Nieces, Angelee and Sammy Jo MacConnell; Maternal grandparents, Angeline LaFromboise Robertson, and William Robertson; Paternal Grandparents, Ada Nickels and Shiriff MacConnell.

Andrew "Peewee" Tuff Jr.
Funeral service for Andrew "Peewee" Tuff Jr., 59 of Peever, SD were held on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Peever Lutheran Church, Peever, SD with Rev. Ronald Campbell, Senior Catechist John Cloud III and Rev. Steve Moberg officiating. Organist was Billy Kohl with special music by Elden Lawrence. Pallbearers were Curt Redearth, Nicky Crawford, Edwayne Crawford, Stacey Miller, Kent Miller, and Pat Kraemer. Honorary pallbearers were Jonas Keeble, Maynard Beaudreau, Mike Whempner, Levi Keoke, Roger Eldridge, Alvah Quinn, Sr., Terry Crawford, Lyle Crawford, Harley Christopherson and "All of Andrew's many friends." Interment was in the Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD. Wake services were Monday, May 7, 2001 starting at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and Tuesday, May 8, 2001 an all night wake service at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of the arrangements. Andrew Gene Tuff Jr. was born on June 14, 1941 in Peever, SD to Andrew and Blanche (Bailley) Tuff, Sr. He grew up and attended school in Peever, SD. After his education he entered the United States Army where he served from April 5, 1967 until March 15, 1969. For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal. "Peewee" returned to the Peever area where he worked for area farmers, and was employed by the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe in building maintenance. Peewee was married several times. Peewee passed away on May 6, 2001 at the Public Health Hospital in Sisseton, SD after a lengthy illness. Peewee loved to fish. Peewee is survived by six children, Sharla Abraham of Peever, SD, Wanda Rehnelt of Litchfield, MN, Mike Adams of Owatonna, MN, Jeff Danials of Litchfield, MN, Jesse Tuff of Litchfield, MN and Tiffany Beaudreau of Peever, SD; Three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Erickson of Peever, SD, Mrs. Thelma Neilson of Sisseton, SD, Mrs. Delores Barry of Moose Lake, MN; one brother, Alvin and wife Lorraine Tuff of Peever, SD; ten grandchildren, and special friends, Arlene, Karena, Kent, Stacey and Charlene Miller. Peewee was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers.

Cora L. Wenn
Cora L. Wenn, age 86, of 410-4th Ave. N.E., Watertown, S.D., passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at a local care center. She was the widow of Chauncey Wenn. Memorial services were held on Saturday, December 1, at 1:00 p.m. at the Wight and Fox Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Westgard of the Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, S.D. There was no visitation. Don Seim was the soloist accompanied by A.J. Sherrill. Relatives requested to meet at the funeral home on Saturday, at 12:30 p.m.
Cora Leola Wenn, the daughter of Oliver E. and Hilda O. (Kaas) Sigurdson was born on October 24, 1915 in Dutton, MT. She lived in several communities. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1934. 1934. . Cora worked at Bee's Beauty Shop until her enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1944. After her discharge in 1946, she returned to Watertown and worked for Montgomery Wards Store. On August 19, 1947 she married Chauncey B. Wenn in Watertown, SD. Dakota. The couple lived in Watertown until 1955 when they moved to Hopkins, MN. In 1978 they retired to Pickerel Lake, and then returned to Watertown in 1988. Mr. Wenn passed away on March 24, 2000. Cora was a Charter member of the Women in Military Servry Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Orville and Richard Sigurdson; one sister, Shirley Haug; and one son, Chauncey Wenn, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Gary Wenn of Ham Lake, MN; a daughter-in-law, Madelaine Wenn of Kelseyville, CA; three grandchildren, Missy and her husband Jimmy Pasquale of Oregon City, CA, Julie Wenn of Santa Rosa, CA, and Tim Wenn of Ham Lake, MN; one sister, Illa Mae Downs of St. James, MN; a brother-in-law, Dale Haug of Yuma, AZ; and five sisters -in-law, Eleanor Sigurdson, Alva Sigurdson, and Lorraine Wenn all of Watertown, Doris Wenn of Clarksville, GA, and Mary R. and her husband Glenn Scott of Naples.

Gary Nater
Gary Nater, age 49, of Cottage Grove, died suddenly on November 8, 2001. Survived by wife Sheena Baker; children, Mark of Clermont, FL and Kristan of Orlando, FL and their mother, Marsha Nater of Cottage Grove; step-daughter, Hannah "HB" Baker of Cottage Grove; sister, Claryce Swanson of Arizona and brother, LeRoy (Cathy) Nater of Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and beloved dog, Norm.
Preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Sophie Nater. "He went too soon and he will be deeply missed." Memorial service 10:00 a.m. Monday at KOK Funeral Home -Cottage Grove Chapel, 7676 80th St. S. with visitation 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Humane Society for Companion Animals.
Eudora K. Rodriguez of Madras, died at Mt. View Hospital on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the age of 62 years, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Greeley, CO on January 13, 1939 to parents, Leo and Mabel (Johnson) Hull.
As a young girl she worked with her father and learned the meat processing business then as an adult she owned and operated a tavern while living in Sisseton, SD. She lived in the Portland area for many years and nine years ago she moved to Madras. Besides loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was an avid reader, lover of cats and working in her garden especially her roses.
Surviving are: daughters: Vickey Rodriguez of Madras, Cindy Hieb of Edmond, OK; sons: LeRoy Johnson of Maui, HI, David G. Johnson of Lynnwood, WA; sisters: Ellen Clark of Roslyn, SD, Jodell Machner of Sisseton, SD; brother: Leo John Hull of Sisseton, SD, and her loving companion, Tony Rodriguez of Madras. There are ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Eudora was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the Madras Conservative Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Freshour officiating.
Autumn Funerals of Redmond was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Lewandowski
Funeral services for Leonard Stanley Lewandowski, age 73, of Browns Valley, MN was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father Arlie Sowada officiating. Organist was Norma Jung and trumpet soloist was Jim Jung. Lector was Edward Lamers. Honorary pallbearers were all of Leonard's many friends. Active pallbearers were Ronald Hillberg, Curt Myrum, Mike Heck, Stevie Lamers, Lynn Stadtler and Mike Myrum. Military rites were given by the William Krensing American Legion Post #58 and the Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Visitation was Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment was at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Browns Valley. The Larson Funeral Home of Browns Valley was in charge of the arrangements.
Leonard Stanley Lewandowski was born September 27, 1928 to parents Michael and Rose (Miotke) Lewandowski in Grenville, SD. He was baptized in Grenville, SD and was confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD. He attended St. Peter's Catholic School and the Sisseton Public School.
In June of 1953 he entered the service in Kansas and was discharged for the Korean War in April of 1955. He received the National Defense and United Nations Service Medals and had become an Acting Sergeant. After the service he came back to Browns Valley and began farming in Roberts County, SD. Leonard was united in marriage to Joy Yvonne Wencel on October 22, 1959 at the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, MN. The couple continued to live on the farm and Leonard continued to farm until the time of his death.
Leonard Lewandowski died December 2, 2001 reaching the age of 73 years, 2 months and 5 days. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Browns Valley, the Sisseton VFW Post #3342 and the William Krensing American Legion Post #58 in Browns Valley. Leonard liked to hunt and enjoyed working the land.
Survivors include his wife, Joy (Wencel) Lewandowski of Browns Valley, MN; two sons, Daryle Lewandowski of Browns Valley, MN and David Lewandowski of Watertown, SD; six sisters, Mary Philen of Browns Valley, MN, Amanda Sykora of Browns Valley, MN, Rosella (Larry) Serocki of Browns Valley, MN, Evelyn Kleindl of Browns Valley, MN, Alvina (Edward ) Lamers of Browns Valley, MN and Burkarda Stadtler of Browns Valley, MN; two brothers, Jim (Beatrice) Lewandowski of Fargo, ND and Mike (Geraldine) Lewandowski of Browns Valley, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Sophie Matherson, Lillian Philen and Joan Serocki.

Richard D. Pond
A memorial service was held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001, in Tualatin Foursquare Church in Tigard for Richard D. "Dick " Pond, who died November 26 at the age of 56.
Mr. Pond was born October 31, 1945, in Vancouver, WA. He graduated from Cleveland High School and served in the U. S. Air Force. He was a mechanic for Tri-Met for more than 32 years and a member of Local 757.
Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Pond--Lauchengco and Teresa Webb; parents, Delos "Demps" and Dorothy; brothers, Tracy and Greg; former wife, Marsha McVay; companion, Billie Schults; and two grandchildren.
Remembrances can be sent to Portland Rescue Mission. Arrangements were made by Rose City.

Elizabeth Jaspers
Funeral mass for Elizabeth Jaspers, 94 of Eden, SD was held on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden, SD with Rev. Fr. Jim Friedrich celebrant. Pallbearers were Larry Krista, Peter Krista, George Krista, Tom Krista, David Krista, Cyril Krista, John Krista and Jerry Krista. Honorary pallbearers were "All of Elizabeth's family and friends". Organist was Mary Wagner and special music was provided by the Sacred Heart Catholic Choir. Interment was in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Eden, SD. Visitation was Monday, December 3, 2001 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church in Eden, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service at the church. There was visitation on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church also. The Cahill Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Elizabeth was born to Ferdinand and Mary (Tschida) Krista on their homestead in Eden Township, Marshall County, SD July 6, 1907. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1926. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Christian Jaspers on October 9, 1934 in Eden, SD. The couple lived on a farm across the road from "Old Eden" in Lake Township. Christ passed away in 1953. Elizabeth remained in the area (her entire life) with her son James and daughter Betty. Elizabeth spent many enjoyable hours in gardening and quilting and other endeavors of a rural homemaker. Her greatest interest was her collection of photo albums and keeping them organized to keep up to date on family and friends. Her love of travel pursued the same goal. She was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden. Elizabeth passed away at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton, SD on November 29, 2001.
Elizabeth is survived by six children, Jerome and wife Rosemary Jaspers of Blaine, MN; Joel Jaspers of New Brighton, MN; Sister Chrishelle SSND (Joanne) Jaspers of Rochester, MN; Sister Kristen SSND (Judith) Jaspers of Lonsdale, MN; Betty Jaspers of Eden, SD; and Mary Jean and husband Jim Balik of Waterloo, IA; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son James, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, four brothers and five sisters.

Robert E. "Bob" Wise
Funeral mass for Robert E. "Bob" Wise, 76, of Osakis, MN was held on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Norman Volk O. M. I. celebrant. Organist was Bill Nelson and song leaders were Cindy Marohl and Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers were Jason Luskey, David Morrisette, Jeremy Hepola, Scott Valentine, David Briggs, Cletus George and Cathy Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were "All of Bob's family and friends". Interment was in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Military rites were provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and the Fort Sisseton V. F. W. Post #3342. Visitation was Tuesday, December 4, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. scripture service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert was born on September 1, 1925 in Louisville, KY to John and Cora (Spencer) Wise one of eleven children. Robert attended school in Highland Park near (Louisville) KY. Robert entered the United States Army/Air Force on November 29, 1943 and was discharged April 9, 1945. For his service Robert received the American Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. He was assigned to the Ellsworth Air Force Base in Raped City, SD in October of 1945. Robert met Donna George in October of 1945, the couple was united in marriage on February 4, 1946 in Rapid City, SD. To this union three daughters were born. Robert and his family resided in Sisseton from 1959 until 1964 where he worked at Dady Distributing, and St. Paul, MN where he worked for a construction company for 15 years. Robert retired in 1982. Robert and Donna traveled between Florida and finally Arizona in winters, and resided in Osakis, MN in summers. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Robert passed away on December 1, 2001 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN after a lengthy illness.
Robert is survived by his wife, Donna Wise of Osakis, MN; three children, Patricia Morrisette of Waverly, MN; Sharon Luskey of Kissimmee, FL; and Carolyn and husband David Briggs of Mesa, AZ; six siblings Mrs. Rosa Lee Gordon of Louisville, KY; Sylvester and wife Mildred Wise of Mount Washington, KY; Evelyn and husband Preston Greenwell of Louisville, KY; Tom and wife Dodie Wise of Louisville, KY; Clarence and wife Doris Wise of Valley Station, KY; and Eugene and wife Pauline Wise of Mount Washington, Ky; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, twin brother Lester, James, Thurman and Louis.

Patricia "Pat" A. Sumner
Funeral services for Mrs. Larry Lee (Patricia "Pat" Audrey) Sumner, age 64, of rural Florence, SD, were held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 6, 2001, in the Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown, SD with Pastor Dwight Fearing officiating. Mrs. Sumner passed away on December 2, 2001 at home.
Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers were Pat's grandchildren: Jeremy Boswell, Jamie Sumner, Kara, Jason and Kami Sumner, Shelby, Tory and Trent Sumner, Tosha, Shauna and Eric Simonton, Kayla Jacobson, Zachary and Madison Sumner and Tyler and Kaylee Sumner. Active pallbearers were Pat's sons: Jeff, Tim, Tom, Lee, Tony and Tracy Sumner and her son-in-law, Dell Jacobson. Music was provided by the C.O.C. Worship Team.
Visitation was at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD, on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Thursday preceding services at the church. The family was asked to meet at the church on Thursday, at 10:00 a.m., to attend the service.
Pat was born on February 1, 1937, to Ed (Becking) Maag, in Watertown, SD. She attended school at Esterly Country School, and graduated from Florence High School in 1955. She worked at General Mills in Minneapolis.
On June 21, 1958, Pat married Larry Lee Sumner at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence, SD. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Osseo, MN until 1964 when they moved back to the family farm near Florence, where they have lived since.
Pat was a member of the Christian Outreach Center of Sisseton, SD. She started AGLOW International in Florence in 1997 and served as its president until 2000. She went to Jerusalem with AGLOW and did mission work in Mexico and at Rosebud, SD. She was a member of Right to Life for many years.
She spent much of her time praising the Lord Jesus, praying and studying her Bible, Pat loved working with the youth as a religious instructor for many years. She enjoyed painting, doing crafts, quilting, crocheting, reading, gardening and canning. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and taking them to the lake cabin.
Pat is survived by her husband, Larry Lee, of Florence; one daughter, Shari and her husband Dell Jacobson, of Florence, SD; six sons: Jeff and his wife, Star Sumner, of Henry, SD; Tim and his wife, Beth Sumner, of Florence, SD; Tom and his wife, Sherri Sumner, of Florence, SD; Lee and his wife, Susan Sumner, of Aberdeen, SD; Tony and his wife, Melinda Sumner, of Watertown, SD and Tracy Sumner of Florence, SD; five brothers: Vince and his wife, Mary Maag, of Sioux Falls, SD; Don and his wife, Delores Maag, of Florence, SD; Les Maag of Minneapolis, MN; Vic and his wife, Judy Maag, of Florence, SD and Jerry and his wife, Lynn Maag, of Barrett Lake, MN; three sisters: Evonne and her husband, Joe Lesnar, of Grenville, SD; Alice and her husband, Duane Breuer, of Guymon, OK and Kim Maag of Watertown, SD; and 16 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gary, her parents, and one brother, Darrell.

Clifford A. Olson
Col. Clifford A. Olson, U. S. Army Retired, 82, of Chambersburg, PA, died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at his home.
Born November 29, 1918, in Sisseton, SD, he was the son of the late Alfred and Carrie Olson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lt. Elizabeth McNamara, Army Nurse Corps, in 1988. They were married in February 1949.
He enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936. He accepted an appointment as junior forester for the U.S. Forest Service in 1938. He worked in the Black Hills and Harney National Forests from 1938 to 1940. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1941 and was assigned to an Armor Unit. He went to England in 1943 and participated in the D-Day invasion of France in 1944. He received a battlefield promotion to 2nd lieutenant in Belgium in 1944. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. From 1945, he served various command and staff assignments in the U. S., Germany, Japan and in Korea during the war. He retired in 1974. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, all of Chambersburg. During his retirement, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America of Chambersburg.
He is survived by two sons, Clifford A. Olson Jr. of Chambersburg and Roland Olson of Reno, NV; a grandson; a brother, Mickey Olson of Minneapolis, MN and two sisters, Louise Roth of Sisseton, SD and Alice Cripps of Palisade, MN.
A brother, Alfred Olson Jr. of Arizona and a sister, Josephine Nordstrom of Aberdeen, SD, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, October 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. Luis Rodriguez was celebrant. Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Visitation was Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the church. The family requested the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Anna L. Moshier
Funeral Mass for Anna L. Moshier, 88, of Sisseton, SD were held on Saturday, December 8, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Norman Volk O.M.I. Celebrant. Organist was Bill Nelson and song leader was Cindy Marohl. Pallbearers were Mark and Matthew Schenecker, Gayln and Kenneth Olson, and Randy and William Arbach. Honorary Pallbearers were "All of Anna's Family and Friends." Interment was in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation was Friday, December 7, 2001 from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Anna was born on September 10, 1913 in Wilmot, SD to John and Lois (Coy) Sutton. She attended country school before moving into Wilmot in 1925 after her father’s death. Anna moved to Sisseton in 1926 where she attended Sisseton High School. Anna was united in marriage to Lawrence Moshier on February 14, 1932 in Sisseton. The couple owned and operated L. A. Transfer, a branch of the Silver Express Truck Line. After they sold their trucking business, the couple farmed east of Sisseton until Lawrence died in March of 1966. Anna sold the farm and moved to town where she purchased Two Old Cranks and changed the name to the 10-81 Club (later known as Brothers III, and The Golden Cadillac). She owned and operated the 10-81 Club for 18 months. The club was sold and Anna moved to Paulsbo, WA where she lived for five years. Anna returned to Sisseton in 1973. Anna was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Catholic Church belonging to many altar society bands. She loved to read, knit, crochet and do crossword puzzles. Anna passed away on December 4, 2001, at the Browns Valley Health Center after a lengthy illness.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Darlene Arbach of Sisseton, SD; Gail Magnuson of Ada, MN; Shirley and husband Merle Hanson of Portland, OR; Gwen Schenecker of Watertown, SD; and Lisois and husband Lonis Wendt of Vivian, SD; 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Cheryl Anderson and one great-grandson, Christopher LaCasse.

Albert "Alby" Nicholas Geurts
Funeral services for Albert "Alby" Nicholas Geurts were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2002 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the Larson Funeral Home in Browns Valley. The Celebrant was Fr. Jack Nordick with Norma Jung serving as organist and The St. Anthony's Choir provided special music. Honorary pallbearers were all of Alby's family and friends. The active pallbearers were Alby's grandsons. Interment was at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Browns Valley.
Albert Nicholas Geurts was born on September 21, 1923 at Arthur Township, Traverse County, MN to parents Arnold and Elizabeth (Roerig) Geurts. He grew up on the farm and attended country school District #5 near Beardsley, MN and graduated in 1941 from Browns Valley High School. Albert entered the Navy and was stationed over seas on a destroyer escort. In his early years Alby operated a portable feed mill. He worked as a mechanic for various repair shops and car dealerships and then in 1955 he opened his own business "Alby's Align Shop" in Browns Valley. He also owned a commercial fishing business for a short time and was a part time policeman in Browns Valley.
Albert was united in marriage to Ramona Richardson on June 30, 1964. He continued to live in Browns Valley and worked as a mechanic until entering the Browns Valley Health Center in 1996.
Alby was a great storyteller, avid hunter and fisherman and was very good at bowling and horseshoes. He loved to have fun with family and friends. Albert was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a member of the Usher's Club, a Boy Scout Troop leader for a short time and called Bingo for many years. He was a very prayerful man and faithful to his church.
Albert passed away on Sunday evening, November 3, 2002 at Canby, MN reaching the age of 79 years, one month and 11 days.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan (Mike) Spindler of Browns Valley, MN, JoAnn (Lyle) Kruse of Canby, MN, and Jan (Bob) Taplin of Mankato, MN; two sons, Robert (Eileen) Skjonsberg of Browns Valley, MN and Ron (Renae) Skjonsberg of Viborg, SD; two brothers Don (Betty) Geurts of Little Canada, MN and Gerald "Swede" (Lila) Geurts of Browns Valley, MN; 19 grandchildren Mark, Ann, Mike, Jr., Matt, Kaylyn, Jessica, Jordan, Brittany, Elizabeth, Jason, Kristy, Eric, Rob, Ron, Jr., Joni, Nichole, Naomi, Amber and Cassandra; 8 great grandchildren Kendra, Kaden, Ian, Tyler, Jevontia, Jendaya, Jaylona and Christian.

Edna G. Fransen
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna G. Fransen, age 94, of Sisseton, SD, and formerly of Aberdeen, SD, began at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2003, in the Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, SD, with the Reverend Steve Slaamot officiating. Music was presented by Gloria Slaamot, pianist; a quartet composed of Calvin Hills, Gloria Slaamot, April Moen, and Holly Anderson; a duet by Allison Mary Fransen and Julia Hills; a duet by Julia Hills and Melvin Hovland; and a piano and mandolin instrumental duet by Janet and Lloyd Bakke. There was a revival in the church Saturday one hour before services. Pallbearers were Calvin Hills, Irving Slaamot, Rollie Hoffman, Errol Stai, David Pederson, and Kenny Fransen. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery, rural Summit, SD.
Edna was born on Dec. 2, 1908, near Havelock, ND, the daughter of Peder M. and Inga A. (Hanson) Pederson. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1927. She taught school for a short while until attending several different colleges in South Dakota where she obtained a two-year teaching certificate.
Edna was united in marriage to Herbert A. Fransen on Dec. 6, 1942, in Inglewood, CA. She taught in Northeast South Dakota country schools for 30 years. Her husband died on March 17, 1952.
Upon her retirement, Edna moved to Aberdeen, SD, where she was a librarian at the city library for several years. Edna was a foster grandparent volunteer for 25 years at the School for the Visually Handicapped and at the Boy’s Club in Aberdeen. Her motto was: “Do unto others as ye would have them do unto you.”
Edna died on Monday, January 20, 2003, in the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and Calvin Hills, rural Sisseton, SD; one son, Martin Leo Fransen, Fargo, ND; one granddaughter, Allison Mary Fransen, Fargo, ND; one sister, Mrs. Eleda Larson, Mabton, WA; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Adeline Pederson, Sioux Falls, SD, and Mrs. Myrtle Fransen, Watertown, SD; and several nieces and nephews and foster children.
In addition to her husband, her parents, one sister, and two brothers preceded her in death. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank was in charge of the arrangements.

Ober L. Torvik
Ober Torvik, 88, of Pierre, SD passed away at Maryhouse Nursing Home January 19, 2003.
Ober Lawrence Torvik was born at Sisseton, SD to Waldemar Torvik and Maria (Johnsrud) Torvik on September 13, 1914. Ober graduated from Sisseton High School.
He left home at 17 years of age and went to California where he went to sea in the Merchant Marines. For five years he traveled to many foreign countries and Alaska. Ober attended college at Santa Rosa College in California until he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps at Sacramento, CA in August 1942. Ober served with the 91st Air Force bomb group as a B-17 mechanical engineer. He was shot down by German fighter planes and spent two years as a prisoner of war. He received multiple citations as well as the Purple Heart.
Ober married Maxine Dady on February 2, 1946 while still in the service. On honorable discharge from the service Ober worked in Sisseton as a car salesman for 11 years. In 1956 he bought a beverage distributorship in Pierre which he operated until 1972. He then became a South Dakota Real Estate Broker developing the first solar home in the area, the Camelot subdivision as well as house and business sales.
Ober was a member of Ex-POW, American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans and Elks. Ober was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was active in the 4th degree Knights of Columbus as both an officer and a member.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 56 years, Maxine, of Pierre, his daughter, Denise, and husband, Dennis Smart of San Marcos, TX and grandsons Peter and Christopher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
A prayer service was held Wednesday evening, January 22, 2003 at 8:00 p.m., with visitation from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., at Maryhouse Chapel with Fr. Hal Barber presiding. A Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2003 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Hal Barber officiating.
A Memorial Fund has been established in Ober's name.

John Andrew Hannasch
Funeral Mass for John Andrew Hannasch, 21, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Sisseton, SD was held on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Norman Volk OMI, celebrant. Organist was Cindy Marohl and song leader was Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers were Dan Cameron, Topher Cameron, Pat Ercink, Shane Raw, Aaron Veflin, Kipp Bredvik, Dan Thelin, and Brian Kleindl. Honorary Pallbearers were "All John's Cousins and Friends. " Interment was in the Scandia Cemetery, rural Sisseton, SD. Visitation was Tuesday, April 1, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cahill Funeral Chapel and from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation was Wednesday, April 2, 2003 one hour prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
John was born on December 9, 1981 at Graceville, MN to Kenneth and Millicent (Tasa) Hannasch. John attended school in Sisseton graduating in 2000. John furthered his education at North Dakota College of Science at Wahpeton, ND for one year and was presently a student at North Dakota State University at Fargo, ND. John was also working for Pepsi America at Fargo, ND.
John was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church where he was baptized and confirmed. John loved to make people laugh and talk with everyone, especially about his cars. John passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2003 as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
John is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Millicent Hannasch, of Sisseton, SD; three brothers, Jason Hannasch and fiance' Amanda Bredvik of Watertown, SD, Steven Hannasch of Fargo, ND and Aaron Hannasch of Sisseton, SD; paternal grandmother, Ann Hannasch of Sisseton, SD; maternal grandfather, Magnus Tasa of Sisseton, SD; nephew Trevor of Watertown, SD, great-aunt Ruth Sherman of Lyndale, WA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
John was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William Hannasch; maternal grandmother Agnes Tasa; and aunt Jane (Hannasch) Haskamp.
