George Huff
Mundwiler Funeral Home announces the death of George Huff, age 84 of Wilmot, SD who died July 20 at his residence. Memorial services were Friday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Rev. DeVern Schwenn officiated. There was no visitation. Music was presented by Neoma Ballhagen, organist and Rev. DeVern Schwenn, vocalist. Honorary pallbearers were George’s grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
George Donald Huff was born October 8, 1919, at Summit, SD, the son of David and Lydia Belle (Beck) Huff. He attended various country schools. He was united in marriage on October 3, 1940, with Dorothy Mae Blood.
George lived at Hoquiam, WA and in Wilmot, SD. He was a carpenter, owning Huff Construction and also owned and operated George and Dort’s Tavern in Wilmot from 1969-1974. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot.
George Huff is survived by wife, Dorothy of Wilmot; three sons: Jim and wife Sandra Huff of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lawren Huff of Wilmot and Roger and wife Elaine Huff of Aberdeen, SD; two daughters: Joanne and husband Jon Tchida of Sioux Falls, SD and Georgia and husband Dan Halloff of Bloomington, MN; 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jack, four sisters, ten brothers and one granddaughter.
The Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements for George Huff.

Alvina M. Schlekewy
Alvina M. Schlekewy, 85 of Hankinson, ND, passed away Monday, July 19, 2004, at her home in Hankinson, ND after a long illness. Funeral Mass was on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philips Catholic Church in Hankinson with Fr. Joseph Huebsch as celebrant, and burial was at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Grenville, SD. Following the burial, lunch will be served at the American Legion in Grenville. Visitation was Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Frank Family Funeral Home in Hankinson, and also Saturday morning, one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers were: Allen Navratil, Brian Rumpza, Frank Rumpza, James Hammer, Jon Meyer, and Ron Rumpza. Honorary pallbearers were: “All her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. ” Organist will be Mary Ellen Krump with special music by Jim Hunt and Adeline Tracy.
Alvina (Herrick Rumpza) Schlekewy was born January 12, 1919 at Greenville, SD, the daughter of Peter and Theresa (Boik) Herrick. She attended St. John’s Catholic School Alvina was united in marriage to Benedict (Benny) Rumpza. After Ben’s death in 1956 she met and married Robert (Bob) Schlekewy at Eden, SD. After Bob’s death in 1992 she moved to Hankinson, ND.
Alvina was a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Hankinson, ND, the Altar Society, a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Altar Society and Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society in Eden, SD. She enjoyed spending time with her children, going out to fine restaurants, gardening, cooking , sewing and dancing.
Alvina is survived by two sons: Bob Rumpza of Mt. Vernon, MO and Gene (Melinda) Rumpza of Grenville, SD, two daughters: Darlene (John) Buchanan of Portland, OR and Sandy (Marshall) Meyer of Hankinson, ND, a step-daughter: Sandra Rumpza of Hastings, MN, and three step-sons: Lon Schlekewy of Norfolk, VA, Larry (Jean) Schlekewy of Americus, GA, and Bob (Judy) Schlekewy, Jr. of Cannon Falls, MN, 24 grandchildren, 28+ great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, a brother: Peter Herrick of Grenville, SD and a sister: Ceceillia Rumpza of Grenville, SD.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Peter and Theresa (Boik) Herrick, a daughter: Janet Navratil, a son: Ronnie Rumpza, a grandson: Benjamin Meyer, four brothers: Eddie, Stanley, Ted and Hank, three sisters: Magdeline, Regina, and Modesta, two daughter-in-laws: Getta Rumpza and Allana Rumpza.

Phyllis (Cornelius) Elliott
to Eugene and Irma (Olstad) Cornelius of New Effington, SD on October 11, 1951. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church in New Effington, SD.
She graduated from New Effington High School and from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion with a degree in Business in 1974. She was a much loved member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at USD.
She worked for the Mobil Oil Corporation in Arlington, IL as the first woman Marketing Rep in the Chicago District. She was named by the USD Business School as one of its top ten distinguished graduates in 1975. She later moved to Manhattan, NY where she was a merchandising coordinator for Mobile and then became a Regional Manager at Hartford, CT with the company. She took a management position with Automatic Data Processing in Buffalo, NY, and was a National Accounts Manager for ADP at the time of her death.
Phyllis was always involved in sports and was an excellent downhill skier. She belonged to the Washington, D. C. Ski Club during which time she skied the Swiss Alps. Prior to moving to Florida, she lived in Littleton, CO, and owned a ski condo in Keystone, CO. In high school and at USD she was a Drum Majorette and twirled fire baton. While living in Buffalo, NY, she was a Jill’s cheerleader for the Buffalo Bills Professional Football Team.
She loved to travel and besides traveling extensively in the United States, she traveled to Europe, New Zealand and Australia. While in Australia she took a 2500 mile trip with a bush pilot in a small aircraft as they delivered mail to the Outback. She enjoyed tennis and attended both the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament in England and the U. S. Open in New York. Her main love of our country was Colorado where she lived for many years.
Phyllis was married to Bill Elliot of Sanford, FL, and is survived by her husband and Bill’s three children, Josh, Jess and Jenna.
She is also survived by her parents, her sister, Elaine and husband Alan Sternquist, Pleasanton, CA; her brother Dennis and wife Pamela, Plymouth, MN; and brother Douglas and wife Dawn, Apple Valley, MN, as well as nieces and nephews Christopher Cornelius and Renae Cornelius, Ann Wyly Gregory, Cameron Wyly, Amber, Adam, Angela and Aaron Cornelius.
A memorial service was held in Sanford, FL and a memorial and internment service will take place in Snow Mass, CO.

Oswald G. Weinkauf
Oswald G. Weinkauf, 85, New Effington, SD, died Thursday, August 19, 2004, at a Rosholt care center.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington. Organist will be Deb Bredvik and vocalist will be Paul and Diane Bartnick.
Burial will be in the Walla Cemetery, rural New Effington. Active pallbearers will be grandchildren Jodeen and Neal Kutter, Wade and Gwen Navratil, Kirk and Dawn Navratil, Micheal Weinkauf, Denise Weinkauf, Brandi Weinkauf, and Jacqueline Weinkauf. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren Daniel, Brianna and Tanner Kutter, Samantha and Zachary Navratil and Adam Spah, Kya Navratil and Kylie Weinkauf.
Visitation will be Monday, August 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington. Visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Johnson Funeral Home of Rosholt is in charge of the arrangements.
Oswald was born July 21, 1919, in Minnesota Township near Hammer, SD, to F. W. and Caroline (Klein) Weinkauf. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Church, rural Hammer. After he attended rural school in Minnesota Township, he began farming with his father.
Oswald married Phyllis Swanson April 8, 1944, at Walla Lutheran Church, rural New Effington. He purchased a farm in Lein Township and farmed for over 40 years. He did electrical work and was an ASC crop reporter for many years. In 1984, he retired and moved into New Effington.
He was a member of Walla Lutheran Church, the New Effington Elevator Board, the Lion’s Club, and the Roberts County Farmer’s Union. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, horseshoes, dancing, playing cards, especially “Smear”, softball and the Minnesota Twins.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Phyllis; one daughter, Susanne (Franklin) Navratil of New Effington; one son, Merle (Nicki) Weinkauf of Cheney, WA; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Jodeen and Neal Kutter and their children Daniel, Brianna and Tanner, Wade and Gwen Navratil and their children Samantha, Zachary and Adam, Kirk and Dawn Navratil and their daughter Kya, Micheal Weinkauf, Denise Weinkauf, Brandi Weinkauf and her daughter Kylie, and Jacqueline Weinkauf; two brothers, Gust (Minerva) Weinkauf of Sisseton, and Norbert (Ethel) Weinkauf of Rosholt; two sisters, Hilda Kutter of Lidgerwood, ND, and Lorinda (Clifford) Sanders of Bozeman, MT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lillian and Estella; and two nephews.

James Lee "Jr. " Hook
Funeral Service for James Lee "Jr. " Hook, 15, of Sisseton, SD, was held on Monday, August 16, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD, with Rev. Ronald Campbell, Rev. Lyle NoisyHawk, and Spiritual Leader Joe Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Justin White, Justin LaCroix, Keith DeCoteau, Gary "Goggy" Brant, Darwin Greeley, Dusty Arredondo, Brandon Adams, Zach Hill, Justin Hook, Jordan Gill, Walter Seaboy, Eugene Seaboy, and Andrew Left Hand. Honorary Pallbearers were the “Active Pallbearers & All Members of the Tiospa Zina Football and Basketball Teams. " Organist was Billy Kohl with special music provided by Joe White Sr. . The Drum Group was the Young Dakotah's. Wake services were Saturday & Sunday, August 14 and 15, 2004, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center. Sunday's wake service was all night. Interment was in the White Family Cemetery, rural Sisseton. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
James Lee "Jr. " Hook was born on October 1, 1988 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Melissa Smith and Terrance Hook. James was raised by two very special people in his life, his auntie and his dad, Karen and Jacky White.
James attended Tisopa Zina School from K-9th grade and received a GPA of 3. 8. He excelled in every sport or activity he participated in. He enjoyed football, basketball, and boxing. He was ranked 4th in the nation in the Silver Gloves Tournament and was coached by Darrell DuMarce. He also participated in extra-curricular activities such as the Whole Shabang, and lock-in. James was awarded into the National Honor Society in May 2004. James passed away on August 12, 2004. Jr. will be missed by all his family, relatives and friends.
James is survived by his special parents, Jacky and Karen White of Sisseton, SD; his mother, Melissa Smith of Ft. Totten, ND; his brother, Justin Hook of Ft. Totten, ND; his sisters, Jocelyn Smith of Wagner, SD, Sarah Hook and Chelsea Hook of Ft. Totten, ND; his grandmothers, Bertha Redday of Sisseton, SD and Tina White of New Effington, SD; his grandfather, Michael Smith of Ft. Totten, ND; his great-grandmother Lillian Greeley of Sisseton, SD; his very special sisters, Toni Heminger and Carrie Greeley of Sisseton, SD; his little cousins, Darwin Greeley and Andrew Left Hand of Sisseton, SD; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
James was preceded in death by his father, Terrance Hook, and his grandmother, Rosella Hook.

Richard Alan Lufkins
Memorial Service for Richard Alan Lufkins, 45, of Rapid City, SD, was held on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Dakota Alliance Church, Sisseton, SD, with CLP Fillmore Simon officiating. Pallbearer was Harvey M. Renville. Honorary Pallbearers were "All of Richards Family & Friends. " Interment was in the Long Hollow Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Sisseton, SD. There was an all night wake service starting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the Dakota Alliance Church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
Richard was born on September 2, 1958 in Sisseton, SD, to Mary Jane Lufkins. Richard liked to listen to wooden flute music and he liked to help people. He was a very good listener and liked to work with his hands. Richard had been living in Rapid City the past couple of years, helping at the Sturgis Bike Rally.
Richard passed away on August 12, 2004 in Rapid City, SD. He will be missed by his family and friends. Some of Richard's cremains were left in Rapid City at a ceremony in honor of his life. Richard left Sisseton in 1963 and now he is back home.
Richard is survived by his father, Roger Cloud of Agency Village, SD; five sisters, LaVonne Lufkins of Sisseton, SD, Mary Lee Lufkins of Illinois, Joy Lufkins of Hankinson, ND, Jodi Lufkins-LaBelle of Stillwater, MN, and Julie Lufkins-LaBelle of Stillwater, MN; three brothers, Keith Lufkins of Sioux Falls, SD, Daryl Lufkins of Sisseton, SD, and Jason Lufkins of Townsend, MT; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, and one brother, David.

Thomas L. Larsen
Thomas L. Larsen, 52, of Hammer, SD, died Friday, August 13, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services were Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran in New Effington, SD, with Rev. Harold Watrous and Raymond Lavoie officiating. Organist was Deb Bredvik.
Burial was at the Ferkingstad Cemetery, rural Hammer. Pallbearers were Jerry Harrington, Randy Ostby, Dale Ostby and Tom Bisek. Johnson Funeral Home of Rosholt was in charge of the arrangements.
Tom was born June 29, 1952, to Nelbert and Anna (Cloutier) Larsen at Sisseton, SD. He was baptized at Ferkingstad Lutheran Church and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church. He attended school at Hammer, Claire City, and New Effington.
He did farm work for Curtis Hillestad, Donald Simonson, Dale Medenwald, Gale and Mark Fladland, Roger, David and Darrell Ceroll, and Mark Voss. He also worked on the New Effington Elevator during its construction. Tom enjoyed mechanical work and auction sales.
He is survived by his mother, Anna of Hammer; three brothers, William Larsen of Hammer, SD, Leland Larsen of Buffalo, MN, and Bradley Larsen of Murdo, SD; one sister, Judy (Nordeen) Brink of Murdo, SD.

June M. Enkers
June M. Enkers, 99, Rosholt, SD, died Friday, August 13, 2004, at the Rosholt Care Center, Rosholt, SD.
Funeral services were Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Assembly of God Church at Rosholt, SD, with the Rev. Robert Beasley officiating. Organist was Ruth Nelson and vocalist was Betsy Moeller.
Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at Rosholt, SD. Pallbearers were James Enkers, Jeffrey Enkers, Steven Enkers, Greg Enkers, Kyle Enkers, and Jacob Ramiraz.
Visitation was Monday, August 16, 2004, from 4-7 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Johnson Funeral Home of Rosholt was in charge of arrangements.
June was born June 28, 1905, in White Rock Township to Clay and Sarah (Davison) Ward. She graduated from Rosholt High School in 1924, and attended Aberdeen Normal Teacher's College in Aberdeen, SD.
On February 18, 1925, June married Edwin Enkers at her parental home near Rosholt. Edwin and June farmed for 54 years, three miles north of Rosholt. Edwin died July 2, 1979. June then moved to town in 1979. She became a resident at the Rosholt Care Center May 23, 2000.
She enjoyed writing stories, painting, gardening, and family.
Survivors include three sons, Duane and his wife Delores Enkers of Moorhead, MN, Roland Enkers of Moorhead, MN, and Dale Enkers, Breckenridge, MN; one daughter Ardyce Shelstad of Brooten, MN; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, six sisters, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter.

Stewart Dale Sundheim
Funeral services for Stewart Dale Sundheim were held Friday, September 24, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Fairview, MT with Pastor Rick Green officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, ND. Casketbearers were Keith Sundheim, Luke Sundheim, Otis Sundheim, Vern Anvik, Justin Brown, Mario Thorsen. Honorary Casketbearers were Dillon Sundheim, Elijah Sundheim, Conner Sundheim, Rodney Sundheim, Albert Emly, Dick Christensen, Delmar Dschaak, Norman Amundson, Wayne Miller and all of Stewart’s many friends and neighbors.
Stewart Sundheim, 75, of Fairview passed away peacefully at his home the morning of September 18, 2004 following a brief battle with lung cancer.
Stewart was born on January 13, 1929 at the family farm near Peever, SD to Edwin and Inga (Grinde) Sundheim. He attended grade school at One Road Township, Roberts County, SD (near Sisseton) and started high school in Sisseton. Stewart was confirmed at the Bethel Lutheran Church in South Dakota. He then moved with his family to Fairview, MT graduating from Fairview High School in 1947. Stewart joined the National Guard in 1949 eventually attaining the rank of Captain.
In the spring of 1953 he started dating Lois Eileen Hurley. After six weeks they eloped and were married April 18, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City, MT. They began their life together in Sioux Pass, MT where they ran Inga’s Grocery Store and Post Office and had their first two children, Joel and Sterling.
In 1956 they moved into Fairview for two years. While there, their first daughter, Laura was born. In 1958 they moved to the Hopperstead farm north of Fairview and were blessed with four more children, Tamra, Steven, Kendall and Kirby. They resided there until Lois’ death in 1996. Stewart’s children then moved him into the first home he owned on the Stodahl place north of Fairview which he purchased in 1977.
Stewart was active in several community organizations. He was a member and eventual President of the Jaycees; one of their biggest contributions to the town of Fairview was building the swimming pool. He was also a member of the Moose, Elk Lodge #1782, Sons of Norway, Montana Grain Growers Association and Zion Lutheran Church.
Stewart loved to socialize, play cards and Chinese checkers. Because of his participation and support of the local FFA organization he received the distinction of “Honorary Chapter Farmer. ”
Education was important. All seven children attended college or trade school. He sponsored scholarships in memory of both his mother, Inga, and his wife, Lois. He also quietly gave the valedictorian of Fairview High School a savings bond each year for the past dozen years.
Stewart was loved by family and friends and will be missed. He is survived by: sons, Joel (Debbie) of Snohomish, WA; Sterling of Lewistown, MT; Steven (Cindy) of Billings, MT; Kendall (Lana) of Bozeman, MT and Kirby of Billings, MT; daughters, Laura of Hardin and Tamra (Gary) Sessions of Flora Vista, NM; grandchildren, Melissa Derezes, Keith, Luke and Otis Sundheim, Alana Ceroll, Malorie and Elijah Sundheim, Shelby, Dillon and Conner Sundheim, Stephanie and Kelsey Sessions; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Taya Sundheim, who was born September 19, 2004, Chloe and Sophia Derezes; sister, Helen (Ed) Martin of Miles City, MT and brother LuVern (Irene of Marysville, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, brothers Orville and Enid and sister Florence Anvik.

Ruth M. Christians
Ruth M. Christians, 94 of Lidgerwood, ND passed away Monday, September 27, 2004, at St. Therese Nursing Home in New Hope, MN.
Funeral services were Friday, October 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lidgerwood, ND with Rev. Joseph Crosswhite officiating and burial was in Corona Cemetery, Corona, SD. Visitation was Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Frank Family Funeral Home in Lidgerwood, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Special music was sung by Curt Brownlee.
Ruth M. Christians was born on April 18, 1910 in Corona, SD the daughter of Emil and Anna (Dehnell) Seehafer. She grew up in Corona and attended school there.
She worked in Corona and on November 10, 1932 Ruth was united in marriage to Wilbert (Pete) Christians. They farmed near Corona for a short time, moving to Big Stone, SD and in 1939 they moved to Lidgerwood, ND where they managed the Benson Produce until they retired in 1972, and continued to live in Lidgerwood.
Pete Christians died on January 18, 1988 and Ruth continued to live in Lidgerwood until 2000 when she became a resident of the St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckenridge, MN. In 2004 she moved to St. Therese Nursing Home in New Hope, MN. Ruth was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, LWML, and a member of the Holy Cross Choir. Ruth enjoyed crocheting, making quilts, cooking and singing.
Ruth is survived by a son, Gerald (Jerry) and Patricia Christians of Maple Grove, MN; a daughter, Linda Christians Truitt of Berlin Center, OH; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Arnold and Ervin Seehafer; three sisters, Erna, Erma, and Lydia at infancy.
Frank Family Funeral Home of Lidgerwood, ND, was in charge of the arrangements.

Florence Sundheim Anvik
Funeral services for Florence Sundheim Anvik were held Friday, September 10, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Fairview, MT with Pastor Rick Green officiating. Interment was at the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, ND. Casketbearers were Jaycin Sundheim, Terry Anvik, Jim Horn, Glen Skov, Justin Brown, Woody Johnson, Sterling Sundheim. Honorary casketbearers were all of Florence’s nephews and nieces. The Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney was in charge of arrangements.
Florence was born on September 15, 1919 in Peever, SD to Edwin and Inga (Grinde) Sundheim. She grew up and attended schools in South Dakota. She moved with her parents and siblings to the farm northwest of Fairview, MT in 1945.
Florence married Warner Anvik on September 27, 1952 at her parents farm. Warner worked for the Dan LaBonte farm and they resided there until Warner’s death on February 20, 1957. They had one son, Vern Danny, and one daughter, Jennie Florence.Following Warner’s death. Florence and her two children moved to her parents’ farm. Florence enjoyed going to Church Circle meetings with her mother, Inga Sundheim, playing cards, playing bingo and socializing with many friends and relatives. Florence loved to enter her baked goods at the County Fair which took lots of ribbons. Florence had a remarkable memory of birthdays, anniversaries and important dates of family and friends. She always had a kind word for everybody and truly loved everyone.
Florence was loved by family and will be missed by her family and friends.
Florence died on Sunday morning, September 5, 2004 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care Facility in Miles City. She moved to the Extended Care Facility after sustaining a broken hip. Prior to entering Holy Rosary Extended Care, she resided at Parkview Caring. Florence resided at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility for some time before moving to Miles City to be closer to her children and sister.
Surviving her are: her daughter, Jennie (Jim) Horn of Belgrade, MT; her son, Vern Anvik of Miles City, MT; granddaughter, Ashley V. Anvik; two brothers, LuVern (Irene) Sundheim of Marysville, WA and Stewart Sundheim of Fairview, MT; a sister, Helen (Ed) Martin of Miles City, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Warner; two brothers, Enid and Orville Sundheim; a niece, Cheryl Muholland; and nephews, Dallas and Edwin Albert Sundheim.

Lloyd P. Duerre
The funeral service for Lloyd P. Duerre was held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at the First Lutheran Church of Britton, SD, with Reverends Sara and Terrill Sorensen officiating. Burial of his cremains took place in the Webster City Cemetery, with military honors. Price Funeral Chapel of Britton was in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Paul Duerre was born in Bristol, SD, on July 26, 1926 to Dewey and Stella (Barber) Duerre. He attended Troy Township Country School in Day County and graduated from Bristol High School in 1944.
He entered the U. S. Army in January 1945 and served in the European Theater with the Army of Occupation during WWII. After his discharge in November 1946, he attended South Dakota State College in Brookings, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture in 1950.
In 1951, Lloyd began work for the USDA Soil Conservation Service as a work unit conservationist, serving in Brookings, Woonsocket, and Aberdeen. In 1960 he was promoted to District Conservationist and eventually transferred to the Britton field office, serving both Marshall and Roberts counties. He was named outstanding District Conservation-ist for South Dakota in 1984 and retired in January 1987.
After retirement, he was employed as a field inspector for the SD Seed Certification Service, Brookings, and did soil testing for Cropfax Inc.
He was married to Marcella Whitmyre of Webster on August 13, 1960 and they made their home in Britton, SD.
Lloyd was a member of First Lutheran Church of Britton where he served as treasurer. He served on the Britton City Council, as a cub scout master, and as commander of both the VFW Post #3507 and Britton American Legion Post #80. He was a member of the Sons of Norway Odin Lodge of Webster. He belonged to the Yelduz Shriner’s of Aberdeen, Britton Benevolent Masonic Lodge, York Rite Masons of Huron, and Grand Chapter of Royal Masons of Woonsocket. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and ham radio operator. He loved spending time at Roy Lake.
Lloyd died Saturday, November 27, 2004, at the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton, SD, at the age of 78.
Survivors include his wife of Britton, SD; two sons, Kent Duerre of Lake City, SD, and Scott Duerre of Mitchell, SD; one daughter, Karen (Brett) Bodway of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Brent Duerre, Watertown, SD, Whitney and Mackenzie Duerre, Viborg, SD, and Grant Bodway, Fargo, ND; two brothers, Donald (Jackie) Duerre, Dickenson, ND, and John Duerre, Grand Forks, ND; two sisters, Gloria (Gib) Shope, San Antonio, TX, and Dee Ann Knebel, Converse, TX; one sister-in-law, Alice Duerre, Bristol, SD; and one aunt, Alice Duerre, Webster, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Britton Legion and VFW Color Guard, of which he was a long time member.
