Nathaniel Paul
Funeral service for Nathaniel Paul, 19, of Sioux Falls, SD, formally of Waubay, SD, was held on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church at Waubay, SD with the Rev. Ronald Campbell and Rev. Les Campbell officiating. Pianist was Billy Kohl. Pallbearers were Robert White, Clement White, John Sargeant, Vern Rouillard Jr., Ray Rouillard, and Chris Rouillard. Honorary Pallbearers were "all of Nathaniel's relatives, all of the staff, and friends at the Children's School and Hospital in Sioux Falls. " Interment was at the St. James Episcopal Cemetery in Waubay, SD. Wake Services were held on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. James Guild Hall at Waubay, SD and on Friday, December 3, 2004 an all night wake started at 7:00 p.m. at the St. James Guild Hall.
The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
Nathaniel Eric Paul was born on September 1, 1985 to Joseph Vincent Paul and Gladys Irene (White) Paul in Watertown, SD. As a baby, Nathaniel was diagnosed with Spinal Meningitis and was sent to CCHS in Sioux Falls, SD. Nathaniel remained there throughout his life and grew up to become a wonderful and loveable person. He enjoyed working on puzzles, watching movies and loved going home for visits to his family in Waubay, SD.
Nathaniel became very ill after medical complications from brain surgery. Nathaniel passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at the St. Paul Children's Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Nathaniel is survived by, his father, Joseph Paul Jr. of Waubay, SD; his brother, Joseph Paul III of Waubay, SD; his sister, Sara Paul of Waubay, SD; and numerous other relatives.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Irene Paul; his maternal grandparents; and his paternal grandparents.

Celeste E. LaBlanc St. John

Funeral service for Celeste E. La Blanc St. John, 81, of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Sisseton, SD, was held on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD, with Rev. Fr. Walter Butor, OMI, officiating. Music was provided by Butch Felix and the drum group was Eyabay. Pallbearers were Sequoyah St. John, Mike La Blanc, Marcus St. John, Andrew St. John, Carlos St. John, and Chaske St. John. Honorary pallbearers were Danen St. John, Steve Renner, Al Kells, Tom La Blanc, Floyd Demarrias, Muchie Hemminger, Kyle St. John, Edwa St. John, Elmer St. John Jr., Stacey La Blanc, Chaske La Blanc, Kurt Perez, Randy Perez, Fidel Kirk, Nathan Thompson, Spencer Wan-na, Ponce Owens, Randy White, Mugsy Wanna, Duane Wanna, Ron Goodeagle, Clifford Robertson, Alcott Brant, Sonny La Blanc, Benji Thompson, Levi St. John, Stacy Wanna, Frankie De La Paz, Philip Mauricio, Herman Perez, Geronimo St. John, Jay Adams, and Sheldon St. John. Special honorary pallbearers were Kayan Thunder Hawk-St. John, Sheila Wanna, Barb St. John, Linda Perez, Lillian Wanna, Mona St. John, Merle Kay St. John, Diane White, Cindy Hall, Connie Keeble-Demarrias, Ross Philbrick-St. John, and Cleo Dumarce. Wake services were held on Monday, January 31, 2005, starting at 7:00 p.m. and an all night wake was held on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, starting at 7:00 p.m. at St. Catherine's Hall in Sisseton, SD. Interment was at St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery in Veblen, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Celeste was born on December 14, 1923, to Peter and Grace (Wanna) La Blanc in Sisseton, SD. Celeste was a homemaker who loved to sew and make beautiful quilts. She entered the Spirit World peacefully at her home with her family members present, following a courageous battle with cancer. Celeste will be missed affectionately by her relatives and friends.
Celeste passed away at her home in Minneapolis on January 28, 2005.
Celeste is survived by two sisters, Adeline "Dolly" King of Colorado and Barbara "Bobbi" Robbins of California; 14 children, Louise (Al), Phil (Kayan), Steve, Yvonne, Robert, Ed, Rodney (Rose), Kenny (Merle), Timothy, Ted, Sanford, Jeffery, Jack, and Roger; 37 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Grace; her husband, Edward; two daughters, Patricia and Jennifer; one son, Marlin; one brother, Wesley La Blanc; and one sister, Germaine La Blanc.

Hilma M. Greseth
Hilma M. Greseth, 95, Chisago City, MN, formerly of Veblen, SD, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Parmly Senior Housing in Chisago City, MN.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 5, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Veblen with the Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Organist was Coleen Halverson and vocalist was Jan Hanson accompanied by Sandy Curran. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery, near Claire City, SD. Pallbearers were Bob Ersland, Ted Lambert, Blaine Greseth, Edwin Greseth, Jr., Larry Greseth, and Tom Greseth. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt was in charge of the arrangements.
Hilma Marie Greseth was born May 28, 1909, near Basin, in Perkins County, SD, to John and Anna (Pederson) Johnson. The family moved to Madison, MN, where she grew up and attended school.
On December 15, 1931, Hilma married Floyd Greseth in Zumbrota, MN. They farmed in the Claire City area until retiring and moving to Veblen in 1975. Floyd died in 1992.
Hilma was one of the first residents of the Greenleaf Assisted Living Center in Sisseton, SD, moving there in September 1999. In June 2004, she entered Parmly Senior Housing in Chisago City, MN. Hilma enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
Survivors include her son Dean (Gayle) Greseth of Chisago City, MN; two grandchildren, Kristell (Mike) Mrosak and Steven (Caty) Greseth; and five great-grandchildren, Justine, Kailey, and Madalyn Mrosak, and Connor and Callen Greseth.

William F. Moore
William F. Moore, 87, Rosholt, SD, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at a Fergus Falls, MN, hospital.
Memorial services were held Thursday, February 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Father Dennis Deis officiating. The organist was Lana Sand and the vocalist was Carl Hansen.
Burial was in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Honorary urn bearers were his grandchildren. Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt was in charge of the arrangements.
William F. Moore was born November 30, 1917, to Mark and Mary (Firner) Moore in St. Paul, MN. He received his education in the St. Paul schools.
On September 28, 1940, Bill married Helen Lind in Minneapolis. A daughter, Carolyn Marie, and a son, James William, were born to this union. The family made their home in Minneapolis where Bill worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and later owned a filling station. He also served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. In 1963, Bill and Helen moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, and managed the Gover Oil Company. Helen died in 1976.
On January 20, 1979, Bill married Inez Wickander in Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived in Detroit Lakes and the St. Cloud, MN, area until they retired in 1985. From 1985 to 1992, they lived by a lake in the Alexandria, MN, area. In 1992, Bill and Inez moved to Rosholt, SD. The couple also enjoyed spending 17 winters in Mission, TX, from 1985 until 2002.
Bill was a member of the American Legion and the Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt. He enjoyed fishing, growing flowers, especially roses, and woodworking. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends. He remarked many times that he felt "doubly blessed" to have two families in his life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife Inez of Rosholt; daughter Carolyn and Larry Larsen of Minnetonka, MN; daughter-in-law Avis Moore of Eagan, MN; four step-daughters, Janet and Jay Cory of Breckenridge, MN, Carol and Kirk Moeckly of Britton, SD, Lois and Rodney Westby of Rosholt, SD, and Donna and Randy Holman of Castlewood, SD; two brothers, Fredrick Moore and Samuel Moore both of Minneapolis, MN; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; son James; step-granddaughter Chris-tine Moeckly; and brother Mark Moore.

Margaret Paige
Margaret Paige, of Bothell, WA, passed away December 26, 2004 at the age of 90. A former member of Bothell First Lutheran Church, she enjoyed arts and crafts, ceramics, baking cakes, and spending time with her loving family. A professional cook, she retired as manager from the Seattle Times cafeteria.
She is survived by her children Eunice Schneider of Shelton, WA; Gerald Gullickson (Gail) of Mountlake Terrace, WA; Ronald Gullickson (Wilma) of Shelton, WA; Sylvia Mangold (Edward) of Mill Creek, WA; Judith Walker of Mountlake Terrace, WA; her sister, Clarice Quarve (William) of Fairfield, OH; 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elder Paige, daughter Marilyn Morgan, son James Gullickson and granddaughter Vicki Savelle.
Funeral service was held Friday, December 31, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Rd., Lynnwood, WA. Visitation was on Thursday, December 30, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in her name may be made to Hospice of Snohomish Co., 2731 Wetmore Ave. #500, Everett, WA 98201-9931.

Debra Kay Rickert
Memorial service for Debra Kay Rickert, 51, of Sisseton, SD, was held on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sisseton, SD, with Rev. Steve Moberg officiating. Organist was Ember Dady and soloist was Pat Schubert. Visitation was on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Sisseton Cemetery. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Debra was born on January 28, 1954, to Alan and Betty (Steen) Rickert in Brookings, SD. Debi was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Sisseton, SD. Her early childhood was spent in Prairie Village, KS, and grade school in Sabetha, KS.
Her high schooling was in Sisseton, where she was one of the first of three generations to graduate from that school. Debi attended South Dakota State University (SDSU) and Patricia Stevens School of Charm in Minneapolis, MN. She had worked at various places as a teacher's aide, spending 16 years in Green Bay, WI, at that job.
While at Green Bay she met and married Peter Stevens. They made their home in nearby Appleton, WI. Debi then came to work at McCrossan Boys Ranch near Sioux Falls, SD. Debi then moved to Missoula, MT, where she and a significant other, Dan, became camp host and hostess for the State. They moved to the southern states, California and Arizona, in the winter months and back up north in the summer. Debi did help run the city of San Diego's Lake Hodges Camp for over five years before moving back to Sisseton, SD.
Debi lived with her dog and cat, working at K and K Convenience Store for the past five years. She enjoyed her work, and to some of the patrons, she was a pleasant one to kid about the NFL, but she was a staunch supporter of the Green Bay Packers. Debi lived in Green Bay at the time of the great players like Bart Starr and knowing them all personally, she was very much a Packers fan.
Debi lived on an acreage near Sisseton, SD, with a significant other, Cal, until her health forced her to move to town. Debi was an artist, handy at crafts, and drawing. She could take and make something decorative out of almost anything. She was also good at painting pictures on objects. Debi loved animals, cats, dogs, and especially horses.
Debi passed away on February 1, 2005, at her home in Sisseton.
Debi is survived by her father, Alan S. Rickert (Colleen) of Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers, Craig (Carla) Rickert of Sioux Falls, SD, Paul (Marie) Rickert of Sioux Falls, SD, and Paige (Julie) Rickert of Minneapolis, MN; one step-sister, Barbara (Allen) Lingor of Yankton, SD; and ten nieces and nephews.
Debi was preceded in death by her mother, Betty, and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Memorials in Debi's honor can be sent to the First Premiere Bank of Sioux Falls, 601 South Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57104.

John P. Loessin
Funeral service for John P. Loessin, 87, formerly of Hammer, SD, was held on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City, SD, with Rev. Douglas Wanderer officiating. Organist was Edwin Arndt. Pallbearers were Ronald Larsen, Donald Larsen, Pat Stickland, Robert Schultz, Billy Otto, Sonny Otto, Ray Larsen, and Cecil Stangland. Visitations were held on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and also Thursday, February 10, 2005, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton. Interment was at the Claire City Community Cemetery. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
John was born on November 1, 1917, to Otto and Mary (Eichler) Loessin in Hammer, SD. John attended country school. He spent most of his life in Hammer, SD, working as a laborer on farms and was an elevator manager there. During WWII, John worked in Oregon at the shipyards. He became a resident of the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, SD on June 9, 1989, and resided there until his death on February 5, 2005, at the age of 87.
John is survived by two sisters, Luella Larsen and Vandean Stave both of Huron, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary; four brothers, Alfred, Albert, Merle, and Harold; and three sisters, Clara Vig, Alice Krause, and Mildred Laing.
Memorials may be sent to the Loessin Scholarship Fund at SDSU in Brookings, SD.

Dolores Smythe
Dolores Mae Smythe, 87, of Allegan, MI, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility.
Dolores was born August 9, 1917 in Roslyn, SD, the daughter of Carl Odell and Clara C. (Stave) Olson. She loved the Lord, and singing, and was always active in her church. She also enjoyed family gatherings and often prepared special Norwegian dishes. She was an avid gardener and flowers always filled her home.
As a young woman, she and her sisters formed and sang in a well-known quartet. When her children went off to college, she enjoyed her work at the Benton Harbor K-Mart as the Jewelry Manager. Her husband, Eliot, was the VP and Secretary for Appliance Buyers Credit Corp., the finance company for Whirlpool.
She is survived by two children, Thomas and Tanya Smythe of Allegan, MI, and Edris and Masanori Takeda of Middleville; two grandchildren, Caitlin and Colin Smythe; two sisters, Helen Westby of Sisseton, SD, and Lucille Newcomb of Seattle, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eliot D. Smythe (Nov. 29, 1977); brothers, Orville, Omar, Russell, Carl and Mert; and sister, Edris Sims.
There will be no services. Dolores will be buried next to her beloved husband in Waltham, MA. Arrangements by the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel.

Ernest Mark Brooks
Ernest Mark Brooks, 90, of Sisseton, SD died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at his son’s home in Barrington, IL. He was cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date in South Dakota.
He was born February 4, 1914 in Howard, SD and attended high school in Philip, SD. He moved to Sisseton, SD in 1940 and with his brother, Clair, established the Brooks Brothers car dealership. He was a very avid sportsman and loved to golf, bowl, fish and hunt. He also enjoyed gardening and being outdoors working on various projects. He loved being busy. He was a member of the Masons and a Shriner for many years.
He is survived by his son Spencer (Linda) Brooks and his daughter Karamae (Frank) McCauley; his grandchildren, Jessica (Greg) Chapman, Elizabeth (Jim) Bohan and Andrew M. Brooks; his great-grandchildren, Rachel and Clay Chapman, Quinn Bohan and Sierra Hayes; his sister, Dorothy Burleson and Bernita Hacker and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen S. Brooks, his parents and ten siblings. Memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.

Bertha Lewandowski
Bertha Lewandowski, 82 of Waubay, SD, died on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Tekakwitha Nursing Home in Sisseton, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay, SD. Burial was at the Waubay Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation was at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer service at 6:00 p.m. and continuing at the church Thursday prior to services.
Bertha Mildred Rinas was born on Saturday, August 19, 1922 to William and Amanda (Wolff) Rinas in Hart Township, Roberts County, near New Effington, SD. She attended Old Effington School near her home and then worked at various jobs in the Sisseton area.
On November 18, 1947 she married Frank Lewandowski at Waubay, SD. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed in Alto Township, Roberts County north of Ortley, SD. She was a homemaker, raising her family at home. She entered Tekakwitha Nursing Home in Sisseton in January 2005. She loved gardening and growing flowers, cooking and baking.
Bertha passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Sisseton, SD, at the age of 82 years and 6 months.
Survivors include her husband, Frank of Waubay, SD; four sons, LeRoy (Karen) Lewandowski of Waubay, SD, Merle (Mary) Lewandowski of Bryant, SD, David (Donna) Lewandowski of Waubay, SD and Duane (Blanche) Lewandowski of Peever, SD; four daughters, Elaine Thennis of Webster, SD, Diane (Max) Fleischhacker of Sisseton, SD, JoAnn (Kenny) Snaza of Grenville, SD and Bernice (Dale) Dewerff of Watertown, SD; one sister, Martha Carlson of Sisseton, SD; nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph; one granddaughter, Malinda; two brothers and two sisters.

Archie J. Hayes
Funeral service for Archie J. Hayes, 74, of Agency Village, SD, was held on Thursday, February 24, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center in Agency Village, SD, with Spiritual Leader Gerald Tacan, Spiritual Leader Jonas Grey, and Russell Smith officiating. Pallbearers were Craig Blackthunder, LaVerne Blackthunder Jr., Algin Blackthunder, Corwin BlueDog, Narcisse Lufkins, and Stanley Lufkins. Honorary Pallbearers were all moccasin players and Archie's friends and relatives. Music was provided by a drum group. All night wake services were held on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, and Wednesday, February 23, 2005, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center in Agency Village, SD. Interment was at the SWST Traditional Burial Grounds in Sisseton. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Archie was born on May 30, 1930, to Alfred and Annie (John-son) Hayes in rural Sisseton, SD. Archie grew up and attended school in Sisseton at the Tekak-witha Orphanage School. After his education, Archie worked for farmers around the Sisseton area, his entire life.
Archie was a champion moccasin player in Canada, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Archie was the oldest moccasin player from the SWST. He loved to play baseball, liked watching WWF wrestling, and hanging out with his grandchildren.
Archie is survived by his children, Jerry and Rachael Hopkins; one sister, Carolyn Blackthunder of Waubay, SD; three brothers, Floyd Hayes of Agency Village, SD, Joe Hayes of Sisseton, SD, and Andrew Hayes and Faith Lufkins of Hankinson, ND; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Archie was preceded by his parents; one sister, Florestine; and two brothers, Ernest and Albert.

Larry Lee Goldsmith
Funeral service for Larry Lee Goldsmith, 67, of Sisseton, SD, was held on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD, with Rev. Ronald Brugger officiating. Organist was Marcia Peterson and soloist was Jenny Nelson. Pallbearers were Tom Jacobs, Jarod Jacobs, Jason Jacobs, David Seurer, Terrin Torvik, and Wayne Fonder. Honorary Pallbearers were Lawrence Hellwig, Richard Fonder, Bob Johnston, Don Jacobs, Virgil Lotzer, and Dave Johnson. Visitation was on Friday, February 25, 2005, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel and also one hour prior to service at the church. Interment was at Sisseton Cemetery. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Larry was born on November 8, 1937, to Lynn and Dorothy (Rudolph) Goldsmith in Princeton, MN. Larry grew up and attended school in Sisseton, SD, graduating in 1955. After his education, Larry started working at Motor Supply Auto Parts in Sisseton, SD, where he worked for 30 years.
Larry was united in marriage to JoAnn Erickson on February 8, 1964, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton. Larry was currently working at NAPA Auto Parts Store in Sisseton, SD. Larry loved to hunt, fish, and spend time at the lake cabin.
Larry died on Monday, February 21, 2005, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Larry is survived by his wife JoAnn of Sisseton, SD; four children, Todd and wife Christine Goldsmith of Mobridge, SD, Sharie Goldsmith and William Radford of Minneapolis, MN, Lane Goldsmith of Mobridge, SD, and Lisa Goldsmith and husband Michael Geist of Omaha, NE; one sister, Donna and Richard Fonder of Sisseton, SD; and four grandchildren, Lynda, Mary, and Rachel Goldsmith of Mobridge, SD, and Alexandra Radford of Minneapolis, MN.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Harry Tisch
Harry Tisch, of Big Stone, SD and formerly of Montevideo, MN, died January 24, 2005 at St. Frances West Hospital in Honolulu, HI at the age of 73.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo, MN. Rev. Paul Losik will officiate and interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Claire City, SD. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the funeral.
Harry Allen Tisch was born December 28, 1931 at Hankinson, ND, the son of Ira and Dora (Bladow) Tisch. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.
He attended elementary schools in Hankinson, ND and rural Claire City, SD and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1948. Harry was a graduate of Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.
He was united in marriage with Marjorie Akre of Veblen, SD on February 28, 1949. Five children were born to them: Donn, Mark, Candace, Suzan, and Shannon.
Harry worked as a depot agent and they lived in many locations including: Peever, SD, Excelsior, MN, Selby, SD, and Montevideo, MN. He retired from the Milwaukee Railroad after 30 years. Harry also worked as a rancher, farmer and business man. He built and remodeled several houses and also owned and operated a TV store and a laundry and dry cleaning business.
In 1997, he attended a Christian retreat called Walk to Emmaus, where he gave his life to the Lord. After that his life changed and he became a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ. Harry moved to Big Stone, SD last summer.
He is survived by two sons, Donn Tisch and his wife Margaret of New Ulm, MN, and Mark Tisch and his wife Debbie of Maryville, TN; three daughters, Candace Tisch and her husband Tom Ruble of Sonoma, CA, Suzan Hooper and her husband Robert of Prescott, AZ, and Shannon Tisch of Maui, HI; six grandchildren, Jerry Bobby, Tara and Briana Tisch and Brandon and Nitara Hooper; the mother of his children, Marjorie Tisch; one sister, Norma Koeppe of Duluth, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Roman.

James Curtis LaBelle
Funeral service for James Curtis LaBelle, 65, of Seattle, WA, formerly of Sisseton, SD, will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 2:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center at Agency Village, SD, with Rev. Ronald Campbell, John Cloud III Senior Catechist, and Filmore Simon CLP officiating. Pianist will be Becky Williams and special songs provided by Butch Felix and Carl Lufkins. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Wynde Jr., Sam Bendickson Jr., Harvey Michael Renville, Felix Renville Jr., Sylvanus Flute Jr., and Gerald Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Maynard Bernard, Nathan Thompson, Wesley Kampeska, Orson Bernard, Douglas Renville, Glen Renville, Benjamin Thompson, Lloyd LaBelle Jr., and Norbit Bellonger. Military rites provided by the Sisseton-Wahpeton Vietnam Veterans. There will be all night wake services on Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2, 2005, at the Tribal Community Center. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cemetery in Agency Village, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.

James was born on November 6, 1939, to Vivian Barse Wynde and Cole Renville in Sisseton, SD. DeCorah and Emma Renville LaBelle adopted James at infancy and he was raised in the rural Old Agency and Peever area. He attended Old Agency Day School, Tekakwitha Orphanage, and went to high school at Flandreau Indian School. James entered the United States Army on July 22, 1958, served in Korea, and was honorably discharged on January 10, 1961. James made his home in Seattle, WA, where he married Eleanor Running Bear. The couple had one daughter, Marcella Marie LaBelle. James was a member of the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Old Agency. James was a professional landscaper and took care of several estates in the Seattle area. He was a champion traditional dancer and traveled the pow wow circuit mainly on the West Coast. He will be sadly missed by his pow wow friends. James leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends on the Lake Traverse Reservation and in Seattle, WA. James passed away on February 17, 2005, in Seattle, WA.
James LaBelle is survived by one daughter, Marcella and his grandchildren, DeCorah and Jasmine Lyons of Seattle, WA; his sisters, Caroline LaBelle Renville of Sisseton, SD, Florence LaBelle Lopez of Seattle, WA, Carol Joy Renville Franklin of Kansas, Yvonne Wynde of Agency Village, SD, Ethel Wynde of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Lou Wynde of Minneapolis, MN, Karen Wynde Ramirez of Phoenix, AZ, Maxine Goodthunder Eidsvig of Minneapolis, MN, Cordelia Blackstone Keeble of Sisseton, SD; his brother Lawrence Larry Wynde Jr. of Watertown, SD.
James was preceded in death by his parents, DeCorah and Emma LaBelle, Vivian Wynde and Cole Renville, his sisters, Germaine LaBelle Renville, Grace LaBelle Wilson, Elaine LaBelle Spider, Donna Wynde Firesteel, LaVina Blackstone Bernard, and Madeline Blackstone Renville, and his brothers, Everette LaBelle, Theodore Wynde, and Donald Goodthunder.
