Madeline Gudmundson
Madeline Charlotte Gudmund-son, 84, of Petoskey, MI, and formerly of Utica, MN, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, MN.
Madeline was one of ten children born on February 23, 1922 to Carl and Emma (Saheim) Thomp-son at the homestead in rural Houston County, MN. She attended country school and graduated from Rushford High School in 1940.
Madeline took various courses in business and went to cooking school at the University of Minnesota. She worked all her life in various food service positions including White Castle, catering, and was a district coordinator of the Lewiston School lunch programs, where she especially enjoyed baking fresh bread daily for the students.
In the late 40’s, Madeline married Ervin Streier in St. Paul, MN. She later married Gynther Gud-mundson in 1966 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston, MN and they made their home in Utica, MN. Together they ran G&M Construction and The Lunch Wagon. They enjoyed serving at many auctions. Gynther died March 18, 1986.
Madeline was always active in her church. She was a member of the Dorcas Society and sang in the choir as long as she was able. She was well known for her poppy seed coffee bread served at many Easter breakfasts over the years.
For her retirement years, Madeline moved to Petoskey, MI, and was very active in promoting the new Petoskey mission, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Ladies Society. In 2003, she moved to Good Shepard Lutheran Home in Rushford, MN.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas (fiancé Pat) Streier and Larry (Sharon) Gudmundson; one daughter, Georgia (Paul) Manthei; seven grandsons, Shane, Adam, and Nathan Gudmundson, Joel (Ebony), Aaron and Jesse Manthei, and Jon Streier; one granddaughter, Jill Streier; one sister, Lillian Reps; three brothers, Martin, Clifford (Mathilda) and Harold (Beverly) Thompson; six sister-in-laws, Irene, Florence and Vivian Thompson, Vernes Gudmundson, Arlene Streier, and Margie Newberger; two brother-in-laws, Adolph (Frances) Streier and Joe Henry (Georgia) Streier, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gynther; four brothers, Olaf, Henry, Carl Jr., and Orlin; and a sister, Evelyn Johnson.
The Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston, MN. The Reverend Michael Lindemann officiated. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Utica, MN. Hoff Funeral Homes of Lewiston, MN, assisted the family with arrangements.

Ramona H. Walker
Ramona H. Walker, 69, of Flandreau, SD and Winnebago, NE, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Old Agency Commun-ity Center in Old Agency, SD, with Ascension Church pastors John Cloud and Gerald Heminger, Jr., officiating. Visitation was held on Thursday, June 8, 2006 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers were Rudy Bellon-ger, Tyrone LaRose, Dave Gilpin, Vern Smith, Louie Payer Sr., and Brent St. Cyc.
Cahill Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Ramona Heminger was born on October 25, 1936 in Sisseton, SD. She attended elementary school at the Big Coulee Day School, and high school at Flandreau Indian School, graduating in 1955. She attended Haskell Vocational School for one year.
She married Vincent Walker on June 1, 1957 at the Reformed Church in Winnebago, NE. She lived in Winnebago while working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She relocated to the Lower Brule BIA for one year, then to the Sisseton BIA for another year. She then went to the Flandreau Indian School until she retired in 1998, after 36 years with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Ramona is survived by her husband, Vincent; four daughters, Natalie Earth, Paulette Gilpin and Joy Walker, all of Winnebago, NE, and Vinetta (Rudy) Bellonger of Flandreau, SD; one son, Darren L. Walker of Winnebago, NE; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Belle Heminger; her father, LeRoy Heminger; two brothers; one infant son; and one infant granddaughter.

Mary Ann Sorenson
Memorial service for Mary Ann Sorenson, 48, of Watertown, SD was held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Ronald Brugger officiating. Honorary pallbearers were “the staff and residents of the ATCO Home in Watertown, SD. ” Interment was in the Sisseton Cemetery. There was visitation on Saturday, June 10, from 1:00 p.m. . until service time. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Ann Sorenson was born on July 1, 1957 in Sisseton, SD, to Oscar and Renae (Mortenson) Sorenson. She grew up and attended school in Sisseton, SD.
Mary lived at the ATCO Home in Watertown, SD most of her life. She worked in a woodworking shop where she made furniture. Mary loved to paint, and do crafts. She also liked to call her family on the phone to visit.
Mary passed away on May 31, 2006 at her home.
Mary Ann is survived by three brothers, Gene Sorenson of Waverly, MN, Lynn and wife Jill Sorenson of Plymouth, MN, and Mark Sorenson of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Janice Tuff of Browns Valley, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Roylyn Gilbert Fuentes
Roylyn Gilbert Fuentes, 36, of Sisseton, SD, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, in Sisseton, SD.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2006, at the Sisseton-Wahpeton Community Center. Alvin Birk-holz officiated. Lay Reader was Gerald Heminger Jr. and pianist was Billy Kohl. Burial was at the Ascension Presbyterian Church Big Coulee-Peever, SD. Pallbear-ers were Floyd Finley, Loren Marks, Jesus Sierras, Danny Smith, Guy Fuentes, Leslie Decoteau, Beau One Road, John One Road, Jerusalem One Road and Ricardo Fuentes. Honorary Pallbearers were “All of Roy’s Friends and Relatives. ”
Cahill Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Roylyn was born on May 10, 1970 to Beatrice Finley and Melvin Lake in Sisseton, SD. He attended John F. Kennedy Elemen-tary School, Roosevelt Junior High, Ray High School, and Mount View High School in Mesa, AZ. He graduated from Tiospa Zina Tribal School in 1999. After his high school graduation, he moved to Phoenix, AZ. He married and had two children, Roy Jr. and Felicity. He worked with road construction for 12 years.
He enjoyed hiking, swimming and bike riding. He also liked fixing things and construction work.
Survivors include his fiancee Carrie Anthony; his father and step-mother, Melvin and Selva Lake; his step-father, DuWayne One Road; his foster parents, Antonio and Patricia Fuentes; three children, Roylyn Fuentes Jr., Felicity Fuentes and Brianna Fuentes; three step-children, Trevor Anthony, Tyrelle Anthony and Tanisha Anthony; nine brothers, Beau One Road, John One Road, Jerusalem One Road, Louie Fuentes, Guadalupe Fuentes, Ricardo Fuentes, Antonio Fuentes Jr., Rick Lake and Breon Lake; 13 sisters, Trina (One Road) Keys, Arlene One Road, Nikki (One Road) Rodriguez, Joan One Road, Margaret Fuentes, Christina Fuentes, Wanda Fuentes, Grace Fuentes, Gwen Lake, Echo (Lake) Renville, Amber Lake, Rio Lake and Tia Lake; one aunt, Rita (McBride) Finley; and one uncle, Floyd Finley.
Roylyn was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice (Finley) One Road; one aunt, Louise (Shuffletowski) Finley; and one uncle, Roy Finley Jr.

Arlys Ann Nelson
Funeral Service for Arlys Ann Nelson, 67 of Sisseton, SD was held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Ronald Brugger officiating. The organist was Mona Greseth. Pallbearers were Paul Stapleton, Kenny Solberg, Brandon George, Andrew Fryer, Arlyn Opsal and Joe Just. Honorary Pallbearers were “All of Arlys’ Friends and Co-workers at Tekakwitha Nursing Center. Interment was in the New Effington Community Cemetery, New Effington, SD. There was visitation on Sunday, October 8, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Monday, there was visitation one hour prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Arlys was born on November 7, 1938 in New Effington, SD to Edwin and Lulu (Hicks) Schafte. She grew up and attended school in Sisseton. Following her education she was united in marriage to Tom Nelson in 1953 in Sisseton, SD. The couple farmed and raised their family on a farm near Sisseton, SD. Arlys started working at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in 1990 and she also worked at Landsberger Creamery. Arlys loved to play blackjack and bingo, she also liked to hunt, fish, and bowl, and she loved horses. Arlys passed away on October 5, 2006 after a lengthy illness. Arlys is survived by three children, Lala, Bryce and Jewell Nelson of South Dakota; two brothers, Michael of Pennsylvina and Dean of Florida; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and long-time companion, Allen Hanson of Sisseton, SD. Arlys was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Dennis.

Marion J. Falkingham
Marion J. Falkingham, 77, Browns Valley, MN, died Monday, October 9, 2006, in a Fargo, ND, hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley, MN, where she was a long-time member. Rev. Paul Warnier was the officiant. Music was provided by organist Ginny Westbrock and vocalists were the Zion Lutheran Choir and members of the Browns Valley Community Choir. Burial will be at a later date at the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley, MN. Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Carmen Hills, Austin Falkingham, Karen Larsen, Ben Fall, Anne DeLong, Erik Falkingham, and Amy Falkingham. Visitation was held Friday, October 13, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley, MN. There was a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marion Jane Kjellerup was born February 15, 1929, to Ernest and Olga (Greenlund) Kjellerup near New Effington, SD. Life in rural Roberts County was rough, and one of Marion’s greatest regrets was that she had to go to work and was unable to finish high school. It became one of her life’s goals to someday go back to school, and she was very proud to earn her GED from Sisseton Wahpeton Community College in 1998 at the age of 69.
Marion married Wayne Falkingham of Browns Valley, MN, in 1946, and together they raised three children, Jeff, Mike, and Patty. After her children were grown, Marion worked for many years at Ike’s Chicken Shack and later at Ben’s Service in Browns Valley. In life, Marion enjoyed cooking, especially for family and friends. She liked people, loved hearing about their lives, and always had a special place in her heart for teenagers. In her later years, she found equal joy in traveling to Arizona to make new friends and returning to Browns Valley to be with her many old friends.
Survivors include three children, Jeff (Bonita) Falkingham of Eden Prairie, MN, Mike (Eleanor) Falkingham of Browns Valley, and Patty (Don) Fall of Crookston, MN; seven grandchildren, Carmen (David) Hills, Austin Falkingham (friend Leah and her son Gunner), Karen (Jeremiah) Larsen, Ben (Erin) Fall, Anne DeLong, Erik Falkingham, and Amy Falking-ham; twin great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ellie Hills; a brother, Leo Kjellerup, his children, Douglas and Connie and their families; a sister, Lorraine Peickert, her children Lanny (Barb), Greg, and Steve (Roxanne) and their families; a special companion of 13 years fiance Harry Johnson, and his children, Claudia (Larry), Roger (Karen), and Cory (Robin) and their families. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 43 years, Wayne Falkingham, who passed away in 1989.

Robert T. Bates
Robert T. BatesRobert T. Bates, age 87, died Monday, October 9, 2006, at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, SD. Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006, at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings, SD, with interment and military graveside rites at St. Thomas More Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Eidsness Funeral Home, with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert T. Bates was born May 2, 1919, at Gettysburg, SD, to Clark and Rose Ann (Mawn) Bates. He graduated from Brookings High School. He enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard on October 12, 1937, and retired as a major on July 18, 1975. During World War II, he served on active duty with the United States Army Air Corps, the 141st Army Airwaves Communications Service Squadron in the Pacific. Bob graduated from South Dakota State College in 1947. On June 11, 1946, he married Susan Clemen of Ipswich at Aberdeen, SD. He sold insurance in Brookings and served on the Brookings City Commission. He was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings. He enjoyed amateur radio, golfing, genealogy, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the V. F. W., American Legion, and the Elks Club. In 2002 he moved to Sisseton, SD, where he lived at Greenleaf Assisted Living and then Tekakwitha Living Center.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Lois Bates, of Sisseton, SD; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Curt Hadland, of Scandia, MN; and four grandchildren, Laura Bates, Sarah Bates, Aaron Bates, and Brendan Bates. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan, on October 12, 1988; his sister, Mary; and his parents, Clark and Rose Ann Bates.

Jundy Ann Marion-Hemmy

Judy Ann Marion-Hemmy, age 65, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2007 in Presentation Medical Center, Rolla, ND.
Judy Ann Marion-Hemmy was born on April 22, 1941 in Belcourt, ND to Herman N. and Geogianna (Smith) Marion. Judy attended St. Ann’s Catholic School until the eighth grade, spent one year at Stephan Catholic School in South Dakota, and then graduated from the Turtle Mountain Community School in Belcourt, ND in 1959. Judy married James R. Smith on June 24, 1961 and together they had two children, Jeff and Jennifer. She went on to further her education at Eastern Montana College years later. Judy worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Indian Health Service as a personnel manager in several locations including, Billings, Aberdeen, and Washington. Judy was united in marriage to Patrick Hemmy on July 26, 1988 in Belcourt, ND. Following her retirement in 1990, she and Pat settled in Sacramento, CA; Sisseton, SD; and finally in her hometown of Belcourt, ND. She liked bowling and making ceramics in her younger years and she also enjoyed going to the casino, home decorating, being outdoors in her yard planting flowers, bird watching, and especially being with her family and friends. Judy will be lovingly missed by all of her family and friends.
Judy is survived by her husband, Patrick Hemmy of Belcourt, ND; son, Jeffery T. Smith of Williston, ND; daughter, Jennifer A. Smith of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Nathanael Chase Milne Smith, Joshua Hemmy, Destiny Hemmy, and Richie Hemmy; sisters, Barbara (John B. ) Knowles of Ocala, FL, Sarah Marion of Belcourt, ND, Yvonne "Putch" (Louis "Chuckie") Frederick of Belcourt, ND, Phyllis A. (Dave) Jollie of Belcourt, ND, and Cora (Warren) Anderson of Rolette, ND; and brothers, Frank E. (Lavina) Marion of Germantown, MD and Clark (Shirley) Marion of Belcourt, ND. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers and sisters, Narcis "Fuzzy" Marion, Herman Marion, Jr., Rene Marion, Robert Marion, Sr., and Therese Marion. Casket Bearers were Richard "Jiggers" LaFromboise, Lyle Morin, Conrad Bulltail, Josef Marion, Clarence Frederick, Louis "Chuckie" Frederick, Sr., Robert Marion, and Tre LaVallie. Honorary Bearers were the Class of 1959, David Jollie, John and Lorraine Crissler, Betty Drapeaux, Christine Davis and Alan LaBelle, Michael Hemmy, Pamela Milne-Smith, and all nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2007 in St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a rosary service at 8:00 p.m. . Funeral Mass was held on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the church with Fr. Bob Cronin, SOLT, presiding. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND in the spring. Arrangements were handled by Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, ND.

Helen Fitz
Funeral Mass for Helen Irene Fitz, 87, of Sisseton, SD was held on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD, with the Rev. Fr. Walter Butor OMI, celebrant. Pallbearers were Ernie Hutchins, Boyd Hansen, Arnold Volker, Gordie Robertson, Neil Long, and Harvey VanHeel. Organist was Bill Nelson and song leader was Sandi Jaspers. Interment was in the Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD. There was visitation on Monday, January 22, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the funeral mass on Tuesday, January 23, 2007. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Helen was born on November 13, 1919 at Garrison, IA, to Asberry and Cora (Turner) Simmons. The family moved to Ipswich, SD when she was five years old. In 1929 they moved to a farm seven miles southwest of Peever, SD. She attended grade school at Agency #2 country school and graduated from Peever High School in 1938. After graduation she worked on Ethel Beavers ranch west of Wilmot, SD until her marriage to Dick Foster on September 13, 1940 at Hawarden, IA. After her marriage she worked as a switchboard operator in Peever, SD for Frank Dudak. The couple farmed and raised their children on the farm until 1958 when Dick passed away.
Helen and her children moved to Sisseton, SD where she worked as an aide at the Community Hospital. On November 30, 1963 she was married to Herman Fitz. Herman and Helen resided in Sisseton and he passed away in 1999. Helen moved to Becker, MN in 2003 to live with her daughter. Helen liked crossword puzzles, sewing, listening to music, and she loved to care for and overfeed her pets. Her greatest joy was spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Helen passed away on January 19, 2007 at the Monticello-Biglake Hospital, in Monticello, MN. Helen is survived by three children, Dixie and husband Richard Heinecke of Sisseton, SD, DeAnne Foster and Warren Johnson of Becker, MN, and Dennis and wife Brenda Foster of Stillwater, MN; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brian and wife Katy Heinecke, and children Nicholas, Hayden, and Paige of Sisseton, SD, Brad and Tracy Heinecke and daughter Ava of Waco, TX, and Kristen and husband Brad Green and children Preston and Payton of Breckenridge, MN, Amanda and children, Alexis and Kenny Foster of Clearwater, MN, and Ashley and son John Foster of Stillwater, MN; six step-children, James and wife Rose Fitz of Cresco, PA, Janey and husband Pat Riley of Lakeville, MN, Jack and wife Carole Fitz of Inver Grove Hts, MN, Allan and wife Sally Fitz of Farmington, MN, Mike and wife Carol Fitz of Britton, SD, Pat and wife Lori Fitz of Sisseton, SD; fifteen step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three sisters, Mary, Bonnie, and Ellen; and one step-grandson.

Evelyn Tester
Evelyn L. (LaBelle) Tester, an elder of the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribe, died on Monday, January 15, 2007 in St. Paul, MN. Funeral Services were held Friday, January 19, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Kessler & Maguire Funeral Home in St. Paul, MN. Visitation was held Thursday, January 18, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Evelyn was born on July 3, 1915 near Veblen, SD. She was proud of her heritage and raised her children to have that same fierce pride in who they are. She is survived by her children Arnold (Barbara) of Binghamton, NY, Richard (Pat) of St. Paul, MN, Charles (Pat) of Hugo, MN, Carole (Bob) Ballard of Parrottsville, TN, Grace of St. Paul, MN, Dennis (Kathleen) of St. Paul, MN, Darlene of Elko, MN; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild soon to be born; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Ellen and Alfred LaBelle; her step-father Benjamin LaBelle; her brother Edwin; and her loving husband, Clyde A. Tester. The family said, “Our mother loved her children and was endlessly proud of them and her grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy that will not soon be forgotten. ”Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army, the Union Gospel Mission, or a charity of your choice.

Doris Beumer
Funeral services for Doris Beumer, age 76, of Browns Valley, MN, were held on Saturday, January 27, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot, SD. Burial was held following the service in the Valley View Cemetery in Browns Valley, MN. Presiding over the service was Rev. DeVern Schwenn. Special music was provided by Doris’ grandchildren and Rachel Jurgens with organist Neoma Ballhagen. Pallbearers were Doris’ grandchildren, Sarah Bell, Jennifer Hanson, Ian Beumer, Michael Beumer, Jon Bell and Grant Hanson. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Doris’ family and friends. Visitation was held on Friday, January 26, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Larson Funeral Home in Browns Valley, MN. There was a prayer service held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening at the Larson Funeral Home.
Doris Jeanne (Deyo) Beumer was born on February 21, 1930 in Clear Lake, SD, to parents, Ted and Helen (Duehr) Deyo. As a young girl, the family moved to Browns Valley, MN, where she attended school. Doris graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1948 and married Robert Beumer on December 4, 1948, at the Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley, MN. Doris and Bob worked side by side on their farm south of Browns Valley, where they were blessed with three children, Scott, Randy, and Terry. Doris’ love of the Lord and love for family were the foundation of her life. She taught seventh and eighth grade Sunday School for many years and was involved in the UMPW and Presbyterian Women, studying the scriptures, quilting, and always willing to serve wherever needed. She made quilts for her students and many others. Doris treasured the smiles on the faces of those she gave to. Doris was a wonderful cook and baked delicious caramel rolls and pies of every variety. She loved life on the farm and took great pride in her flowers and large vegetable gardens, always sharing with others. She enjoyed singing in the Browns Valley Community Choir for a number of years as well. Her beautiful eyes and smile and her caring and generous nature will be missed by those who loved her and called her friend.
Doris passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at her home near Browns Valley, MN, reaching the age of 76 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Helen. Doris is survived by her husband, Robert of Browns Valley, MN; sons, Scott (Jill) Beumer of San Antonio, TX, Randy (Judy) Beumer of Browns Valley, MN, and Terry (Laurel) Beumer of Browns Valley, MN; four grandchildren, Sarah (Jon) Bell, Jennifer (Grant) Hanson, Ian Beumer, and Michael Beumer; three sisters, Charlotte Goering, Phyllis Schwagerl, and Mary-Lou Toelle; one brother, Keith Deyo; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The Larson Funeral Home of Browns Valley, MN was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Bubak-Hanson

Funeral Service for Clara Bubak-Hanson, 102, of Sisseton, SD was held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD, with the Rev. Vern Donnell, Rev. Tim Peterson and Rev. Beverly Brafford-Perrella officiating. Pallbearers were Todd Brafford, Mark Bubak, Tom Elrite, Tommy Elrite, Bill Elrite, Jim Elrite, and Zeb Wolfe, grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were all of Clara’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Organist was Gloria Slaamot, and pianist June Evenson presented prelude music. Former pastors, Rev. Tim and Sybil Peterson, along with Krystal and Del Williams, also performed beautiful, meaningful musical selections. Interment followed at the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation hours held on Friday, January 26, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Clara Iverson was born on November 22, 1904 in Marshall County, SD to Knute and Seri Anna (Husted) Iverson. Clara was united in marriage to Albert Bubak on February 6, 1928 in Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Sisseton, Watertown and Webster. In 1942 they moved back to Sisseton where Clara worked for Stavig’s Department Store and was a clerk at Sisseton Livestock Auction. In 1952 they moved to Woodburn, OR. Albert passed away in 1983. Clara continued to make her home in Woodburn until returning to Sisseton in 1993. Clara was united to Andy K. Hanson on September 10, 1992 in Reno, NV. Clara entered the Green Leaf Assisted Living Center in Sisseton, SD, in September 2005. She enjoyed designing clothes, shopping, loved her bible, her church, and loved music, singing, and playing the piano and saxophone. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking Norwegian dishes. She also wrote a book about her life entitled “My Life on the Prairie”, describing the remarkable life lessons learned in her early years. She traveled to Norway in 1991 for an Iverson Family reunion, where 85 relatives attended the festivities. In 2002 she was nominated by the “Spirit of South Dakota” Awards Society, as one of 26 women in the state to be honored for their contributions of time and talent, making a difference in our state. Clara was a member of The First Assembly of God Church.
Clara passed away on January 24, 2007 at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton, SD. Clara is survived by her husband, Andy K. Hanson of Sisseton, SD; one son, Orville, and his wife, Shirley Bubak of Sisseton, SD; one daughter, Rev. Beverly Brafford-Perrella and her husband, Ralph Perrella of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Arnold Iverson of Woodburn, OR; one sister-in-law, Ruth Iverson of Vancouver, WA; nine grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Bubak; two daughters, Audrey and Ardy; one sister, Ida Gianella; and five brothers, Alfred, Magnus, Olaf, Albert and Edward.

James "Bud" Monson
Funeral Service for James “Bud” Monson, 83, of Veblen, SD was held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Darcy Ready officiating. Casket-bearers were Bud’s grandchildren--Cory Yammerino, Darin Yammer-ino, Jared Yammerino, RaNae Yammerino, Bracken Robinson, Maegan Dykstra, Cody Ringsaker, Colton Ringsaker, Caleb Ring-saker, Heath Butrum and Zayden Monson. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Bud’s Friends & Family. Organist was Gale Gleason. There was visitation held on Friday, March 23, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service. There was visitation on Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
James “Bud” Monson was born on July 19, 1923 on the Monson homestead in McKinley Township, Marshall County near Veblen, SD to Orville J. and Mae (Jones) Monson. Bud attended grades 1-8 at McKinley Township Rural School #1 and grades 9-12 Sisseton High School. On June 8, 1951, Bud married Vivian Mussetter. Bud’s life was filled with many activities and lines of work. While his main occupation was farming/ ranching, he also loved to build and improve equipment, such as a farmhand on a Ford truck chassis, car crusher, cattle head gates, water system, and railroad tie picker. He taught his children and many nieces and nephews his love of horseback riding, working cattle, haying, fencing and farming. He loved to read, learn, visit, travel, garden and camp with his grandchildren, even playing volleyball at his 80th birthday party. He embraced life and enjoyed a challenge. He looked forward to attending family and school reunions, renewing and making connections. Bud was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Veblen, McKinley Township supervisor, McKinley School Board, NFO, Farmers Union, Traverse Electric Cooperative, Sisseton High School Alumni Association and LaCoteau Saddle Club. He and Vivian were honored to be the SHS Co-Alumni of the Year in 2003.
Bud is survived by his wife Vivian of Veblen, SD; one son and five daughters, Terry (Mary Kay) Monson of Veblen, SD, Susan Yammerino of Sisseton, SD, Holly (Keith) Butrum of Veblen, SD, Lauri (Bill) Fugate of Kadoka, SD, Carol (Clark) Ringsaker of Watertown, SD, and Lezli Monson of Gillette, WY; eleven grandchildren, Cory Yammerino, Darin Yammer-ino, Jared Yammerino, Bracken Robinson, RaNae Yammerino, Maegan (Klayton) Dykstra, Heath Butrum, Cody Ringsaker, Colton Ringsaker, Caleb Ringsaker and Zayden Monson; eight great-grandchildren, Carlee Vetch, ChyLea Yammerino, Kailee Rinas, Shainna Cook, Taryn Yammerino, Avery Yammerino, Anthony Yammerino and Jamie Lyn Dykstra; one brother, Irving Monson of Veblen, SD; two sisters, Alyce Spooner of Britton, SD, and Patricia Hofland of Claire City, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Shannon Lynn Monson; a son-in-law, Jim Yammerino; and one special double cousin, Jim “Brud” Jones.

Charles Brandenburger
Charles John Brandenburger, age 70, Minneapolis, MN passed away March 7, 2007, at his home. Funeral Mass celebrated by Father Don Schwalm was on Monday, March 12, 2007, at the Miller Funeral Home Chapel, Fridley, MN, with visitation on Sunday evening at the funeral chapel. Interment was at the Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Charles was born January 12, 1937, to Nick and Mary (Braun) Brandenburger at the family farm of rural White Rock, SD. Charles attended school at Rosholt Independent School, Rosholt, SD.
Growing up Charles worked on the family farm. He was an enlisted member of the South Dakota National Guard prior to entering the U. S. Air Force on November 15, 1956, and was honorably discharged on November 14, 1960. During military service he earned the following medals: Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Out-standing Unit Award, and Air Force Longevity Service Award. Following his military service Charles worked in Minneapolis and continued working as a punch press machinist for many years before retiring. Charles married Jeanette Mary Kudak Toenjes on November 9, 1963, at Immaculate Conception Church, Columbia Heights, MN. Their children and family include Cathy Baxter and Roy Chester, Robby and Kathy Toenjes, Judy and Ray Kloncz, Peggy Branden-burger, Tim Brandenburger and April Deel; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Chuck's hobbies included hunting, fishing, and drinking coffee. He enjoyed his family and time with the grandchildren and was an active member of the Lions Club. He spent many hours up North at the cabin by McGregor perfecting his Northern Pike fishing and enjoying his birds. When not bird watching he was busy cooking, singing Karaoke, visiting or emailing his family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Kenny; one brother, Nicholas; and three sisters, Bernice Sander, Irene Fleisch-hacker Euge, and Florence Bran-denburger; and brothers-in-law, Milton Lonnee, Gerald Virnig, Elmer Sander, Joseph Fleisch-hacker, Vaughn Euge, Leonard Sluss, and Charles Lind. Those remaining are his wife; five children and their families; three brothers, Walter and Avis Brandenburger, Paul and Marlene Brandenburger, and Arthur and Connie Brandenburger; five sisters, Charlotte Lonnee, Evelyn Virnig, Dorothy Huehn, Mary and Donald Robertson, and Shirley Lind; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ardys Lorensberg
Ardys Lorensberg, 66 of Roslyn, SD died on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Her funeral was at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2007 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, Janet Johnson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Sunday, June 17, 2007, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Monday.
Ardys Marie (Rossier) Lorensberg was born on Sunday, January 19, 1941 to Rose (Rossier) Thorsness on the Rossier family farm near Lake City, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lake City. She attended country school near her home. On March 25, 1972 she married Raydon Lorensberg at Webster, SD. After their marriage the couple lived in Lake City and Roslyn before moving to the Lorensberg family farm in Independence Township, Day County northwest of Roslyn. She was employed at Dakotah, Inc. in Eden and also in Webster until she retired in 1996 after working for sixteen years. Also in 1996 the couple retired from farming and moved into Roslyn. She was a member of Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn where she was active in Circle and Ladies Aide. She enjoyed reading, sewing, baking and spending time with her friends, family and especially her granddaughter, Haley. Ardys was a kind and caring person and enjoyed giving to others.
Ardys passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 26 days. Survivors include her husband, Raydon of Roslyn; two sons, Kent (Sara) Lorensberg of Roslyn, SD and Scott Lorensberg of Aberdeen, SD; one daughter, Kimberly Lorensberg of Sisseton, SD; a granddaughter, Haley Lorensberg of Roslyn, SD; two sisters, Debbie (Phil) Hannasch of Britton, SD and Mary Ellen Engelman of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Larry (LeAnn) Thorsness of Round Rock, TX and David (Peggy) Thorsness of Rapid City, SD; and a sister-in-law, Debbie Thorsness of Warner, SD. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and one brother, Donald Thorsness.

Howard Koth
Howard H. Koth, 76, of Yorba Linda, CA died Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Revel Matheke officiated. Burial was in the South Logan Cemetery, north of St. Paul, with military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 116 of St. Paul. Visitation was from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Mr. Koth was born June 27, 1930, at Wilton, ND to William and Pauline Koth. Survivors of the immediate family include: his wife, JoAnn Berst Koth of Yorba Linda, CA; a daughter, Tami Koth of San Diego, CA; a son and daughter-in-law, Brettley and Mona Koth of Lexington, VA; and a brother, Vernal Victor Koth of Covina, CA. Additional survivors include a grandson, Henry; a niece, Laura Koth of San Francisco, CA; and a nephew, David Koth of North Hollywood, CA. He was raised in Veblen, SD. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Korea. He was a graduate of the University of south Dakota. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Berst in 1958. The couple moved to California. Howard began a career with the Northrop Corporation that would last 36 years, as an internal operations auditor. Howard was a member of the American Legion Post 0679, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9030, and was a 46-year, lifetime member of BPO Elks Lodge 2046 of Buena Park, CA. Memorials are suggested to South Logan Cemetery.

Marvin Duane Pederson
Funeral Services for Marvin Duane (Super Pete) Pederson were held on Sunday, June 2, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at Fron Lutheran Church, Starbuck, MN with Reverend John Beem officiating. Organist was Monica Gosseling. Interment was at the Fron Lutheran Cemetery, Starbuck, MN with the Starbuck VFW Honor Guard performing military honors. Marvin Duane Pederson, son of Helmer Sr. and Serina (Aadland) Pederson, was born May 17, 1923 in New Effington, SD, where he grew up and was baptized and confirmed at Ferkingstad Lutheran Church.
Marvin attended and graduated from New Effington High School. In 1942, Marvin enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in WWII as a Staff Sergeant. In 1945, he received an honorable discharge. Following his discharge, he moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he worked at Fairway Foods and also met his future bride. On June 20, 1948 he was united in marriage to Rosalie Mold in Sunrise, MN. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Starbuck, where they raised their children and owned and operated Pederson’s Super Market. Rosalie died on March 18, 1992. Marvin continued to run the Super Market, until his retirement in 1994. In 2005, he moved into the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, where he continued to live until the time of his death. Marvin was a member of the Starbuck VFW, American Legion, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Son’s of Norway and the Masonic Lodge in Glenwood. Marvin liked to travel, running his business, playing pool and cards. He enjoyed music and entertaining, especially the piano, organ, harpsichord and the guitar. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Marvin died on Friday, May 25, 2007 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN having lived to reach the age of 84 years.
He is survived by two sons: Richard (Deborah) Pederson of Brooklyn Park, MN and Blaine (Karla) Pederson of Starbuck, MN; ten grandchildren: Trevor Pederson (Kristeen Hammond) of Glenwood, MN; Troy Pederson (Karla Stone) of Glenwood, MN; Trent (Tracy) Pederson of Alamogordo, NM; Tricia Pederson of Starbuck, MN; Sarah Pederson of Willmar, MN; Andrew Pederson of Starbuck, MN; Alicia Pederson of Starbuck, MN; Kayla Pederson of Starbuck, MN; Charity (Eric) Baca of Brooklyn Center, MN and Cassidy Zimmerman (Rick Briggs) of Brooklyn Park, MN; nine great-grandchildren: Austin Pederson, Dylan Walker, Mariah Walker, Jordan Pederson, Bailey Pederson, Peyton Pederson, Hunter Blakeman, Noah Briggs-Zimmerman and Zachary Baca; two brothers: Kenneth (Ethel) Pederson of Franklin, IN; Helmer Jr. (Nyleen) Pederson of Bloomington, MN and three sister-in-laws: Marilyn Pederson of Minneapolis, MN; Irene Pederson of Minneapolis, MN; and Esther Pederson of Duluth, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife: Rosalie; one son: Ronald Pederson; parents: Helmer Sr. and Serina Pederson; three sisters: Martina (Gilford) Hill, Lenore (Ed) Moberg and Amy (Rolf) Lavik and six brothers: Theodore (Ethel) Pederson, Palmer (Alice) Pederson, Henry Pederson, Chester Pederson, Idan Pederson and Gordan Pederson.
