Dorothy Linneman

Dorothy Linneman, age 80, of Big Stone City died November 9th at the Northridge Care Center in Ortonville. Private family services will take place at a later date.

Dorothy was born on June 2, 1928, in Delhi, MN. She was the daughter of Glen and Florence (Baer) Bolland. She was united in marriage on January 26, 1952, with Bernard Joseph Linneman in Kahoka, MO.

Dorothy was very proud of her private pilot license. She worked part time as a florist in a greenhouse. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cross word puzzles, ceramics and mosaics. She and Bernard had lived the past 17years in the Big Stone Lake area. Bernard died May 25, 2008.

Dorothy Linneman is survived by one son, Joseph and wife Cheryl of Sartell, MN; one daughter, Patty and husband John Binsfeld of Big Stone City, SD; three grandchildren: Jeff Linneman of Bemidji, MN; Sharon Bemis of St. Cloud, MN; Christine Bemis, USN, stationed in Hawaii; two step grandchildren: Ashley and Adam Preusse of Sartell, MN; one sister Marge Sweeney of Buffalo Grove, IL; a sister-in-law: Bernadine Leak of Heber Springs, AK; niece Robbi Anderson of Huntington Beach, CA and her beloved dog, Chance “Chester”.

Dorothy Mundwiler

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Dorothy Mundwiler died in the loving care of the Milbank Area Hospital - Avera Health on Saturday, November 8th.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 14th at 10:30 a.m. at American Lutheran Church in Milbank.

Rev. Janine Rew-Werling and Rev. Craig Werling will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday at the Mundwiler Faith Chapel in Wilmot from 5 – 7 p.m.; on Thursday at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank from 4 – 8 p.m. and continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service.

Honorary bearers will be Dr. Kay, Dr. Van, and the entire staff of caregivers of the Milbank Area Hospital - Avera Health. Casket bearers will be Tim Mundwiler, Calvin Brown, Dr. Fred Schofield, F. J. Schofield, Paxton Schofield, and Scott Brown.

Music will be provided by Carol Ydstie, organist; Paula Pillatzki, vocalist; Father Dana Christensen, vocalist; Della Doran, vocalist; and Ray Ogdahl, vocalist.

Dorothy Helen (Green) Mundwiler was born July 1, 1924, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of James A. and Willie (Goza) Green. She lived with her family in Okmulgee and graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1942. She attended Okmulgee Business College until 1944. Dottie worked as a legal stenographer for a law firm in Okmulgee. She was employed in the Headquarters of the Glennan General Hospital as secretary to Col. Charles Gandy, and also worked in the Special Services Section of the hospital. She was united in marriage on February 7, 1945, with James Edward Mundwiler, at the First Assembly of God Church in Okmulgee.

Following Jim’s military discharge, Jim and Dottie moved to Milbank, SD in 1946. They lived in Lidgerwood, ND and worked for Walby Funeral Home from 1948-1950. Jim was recalled into active duty during the Korean Conflict and they moved to Fort Carson, CO. Following the Korean Conflict, they moved to Great Falls, Montana before returning to Milbank in 1952. Together, they assumed ownership of the Mundwiler Funeral Home and Ambulance Service. Jim’s father, Orrie, died in 1953, and Jim and Dottie assumed ownership of the Mundwiler Furniture Store. They later sold the furniture store to Oscar and Anne Torness.

Dottie was among the first female funeral directors licensed in the state of South Dakota. Together, Jim and Dottie represented the second generation of family funeral service for the Milbank area. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, was Past Matron of the Esther Chapter #20 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past President of the Auxiliary to the American Legion, Birch-Miller Post #9, a charter member of the Milbank Hospital Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Matronette’s Extension Club. She was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician. She enjoyed gardening at Big Stone Lake. Her grandchildren were the delight and joy of her life.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Peggy and Calvin Brown of Red Oak, IA; Susan and Dr. Fred Schofield of Glendale, AZ; and Timothy and Tana Mundwiler of Milbank, SD; seven grandchildren: Scott Brown, F.J. Schofield, Paxton Schofield, Gira Schofield, Kaylee Mundwiler, Amber Mundwiler, and Jamie Mundwiler; nieces: Karen (Schuelke) and husband Matt Casale of Anoka, MN; Susan (Green) and husband Bruce Orr of Naperville, IL; nephew: John and wife Janeta Green of Owasso, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her grandson, Michael Mundwiler Brown, and two brothers.

Jamie Sear

Jamie Alícia Sear, age 18, of Milbank died suddenly the afternoon of October 31, 2008, in Alexandria, MN.

Jamie is survived by her mother, Rebecca Neafus; her father, James Sear; four half siblings: Michael, Tiffany, Heather, and Anthony; grandmothers: Jane Neafus and Rose Salazar; grandfather, Duane Lloyd; uncles: Duane and Dean Badboy as well as loving great grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends in both South Dakota and Minnesota, and her special friends at Montage, Inc.

She was attending Alexandria Technical College pursuing her passion for fashion and business management, was active in Student Marketing Association/Delta Epsilon Chi and involved in the fashion show production.

She loved light, laughter, color, texture, family, friends, her pets, traveling, swimming, and dancing. She will be deeply missed by everyone who loved her.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 5th from 5 – 7 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 6th at Central United Methodist Church, 201 South 5th Street, Milbank, SD at 3:00 p.m.

Sophie Cizmadji

Sophie Cizmadji, age 79, one of the special ladies of Angela Hall, died October 28th at St. William’s Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 31st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Saint Joseph Cemetery in Lake Zurich, IL.

Visitation will be Thursday at St. William’s Care Center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. then at St. Lawrence Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A scripture and rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the church, one hour prior to the Mass. Honorary bearers will be the ladies of Angela Hall. Music will be provided by Sandy Tucholke, organist and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir.

Sophie Cizmadji was born January 15, 1929, in Michigan. She was the daughter of Rose Cizmadji and Nicholas Vokoski. In July of 1929, Sophie was placed in the St. Agnes Foundling Home in Michigan. At age six, she moved to St. Anthony’s Orphanage and in 1937, was transferred to St. Mary of Providence School. In 1942, Sophie moved to Milbank, SD to work and live with the Sisters of St. William’s Care Center and hospital. She has since resided.

Sophie is survived by her loving family at St. William’s Care Center.

Norman Moldenhauer

Norman Wilfred Moldenhauer, age 73, of rural Twin Brooks died October 23rd at his residence.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Rev. Keith Bicknase will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday at Mundwiler Funeral Home from noon to 7 p.m. and continue at the church on Monday, one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers will be his grandchildren: Jeremy Tostenson, Paul Tostenson, Justin Tostenson, Matthew Tostenson, Christopher Klesges, Joshua Klesges, and Sydney Moldenhauer.

The banner bearer will be Jamie Mundwiler.

Honorary bearers will be the staff and board member of First Bank and Trust, the staff and board members of REA, the Rambling Pheasants RV Club, the Two Cylinder Club, and the Antique Car Club.

Music will be provided by Tyler Poppen, organist; Carol Walford, vocalist; Sylvia Konstant, pianist; and the Celebration Ringers Bell Choir.

Norman Wilfred Moldenhauer was born May 21, 1935, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Telo and Selma (Schweer) Moldenhauer. Norman grew up in the LaBolt, SD area. He graduated from Milbank High School and also received technical training in Kansas City, MO. He was united in marriage on December 27, 1953, with LaVerna May Hansen in Milbank. Norman served in the United States Army National Guard.

Norman and LaVerna lived a short time in Kansas City, MO and in the spring of 1954, moved to the farm west of Twin Brooks. Norman farmed and drove truck. He was a loan officer at Production Credit Association. He was loan officer and later President of Community State Bank of Stockholm. He was a board chairman of First Bank and Trust in Milbank, a member of the Grant County Planning Commission, a member of the Two Cylinder Club and member of the Antique Car Club. He volunteered his time and service to the Stockholm museum and was a life member of the Grant County Historical Society. He was an active member of the Rambling Pheasants RV Club and enjoyed spending winter months in warmer climates. He was a board member of REA and a board member of Stockholm Mutual Insurance.

Norman was a faithful member of the Lutheran faith and dedicated service to both Emanuel Lutheran Church and American Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Milbank Lion’s Club.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, LaVerna; two daughters: Norma Kristy and husband Bill Tostenson of Twin Brooks, SD; Dr. Lisa and husband Dr. Bob Klesges of Memphis, TN; one son: Kyle and wife Deb Moldenhauer of Watertown, SD; 7 grandchildren: Jeremy Tostenson, Paul Tostenson, Justin Tostenson, Matthew Tostenson, Christopher Klesges, Joshua Klesges, and Sydney Moldenhauer; 5 great grandchildren: Tayla Schulte, Madison Schutle, Hallie Schulte, Kaylee Tostenson and Micah Tostenson; one sister: Jeanette and husband Leonard Haliburton of Milbank, SD and one brother: Jerry and wife Sharon Moldenhauer of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Karla.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the Emanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Annine Meyer

Annie Meyer, age 95 of Milbank, formerly of Albee, SD died October 19th in Milbank.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo. Rev. Keith Smith will officiate and burial will be in the Troy Cemetery.

Music will be provided by Donna Johnson, organist and Rita Wellnitz, vocalist. Honorary bearers will be: Albert Andresen, Ryan Sasada, Steven Buck, and David Wellnitz. Casket bearers will be: Matthew Branum, Bill Schaffer, Don Wellnitz, Gene Limberg and Arlo Wellnitz.

Visitation will be at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service.

Annie Marie (Halldin) Meyer was born February 28, 1913, in Grant County, SD. She was the daughter of Carl and Hulda (Bengston) Halldin. She attended three years of high school in Strandburg, SD and graduated from Revillo High School in 1932. She was united in marriage on October 15, 1932, in Revillo, with Robert G. Meyer.

Annie and her husband operated a business together in Albee. Annie was the postmaster for the Albee Post Office from 1947, until she retired in 1987. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo. She took classes and received a diploma in furniture upholstering. She was a winner in the “Make it With Wool” contest.

Survivors include one daughter, DeLaine Rosalie Branum of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren: Dianne Sasada, Tylese Buck, and Matthew Branum; two great grandchildren: Steven Buck and Ryan Sasada. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one grandson, three sisters, and three brothers.

Eggie Hublou

Edward P. “Eggie” Hublou, age 81, of Milbank died October 11th at St. William’s Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank.

Father Ken Lulf will officiate and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a scripture and rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Honorary bearers will be Leon Schliesman, Tim Stengel, Tim Mundwiler, and Tim Jurgens. Casket bearers will be nephews: Gerald Pauli, Michael Pauli, Thomas Pauli, Alan Hublou, Richard Hublou, Charles Layher, and John Weiland.

Music will be provided by Nancy Johnson, organist and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir.

Edward Peter Hublou was born March 25, 1927, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Edward J. and Clare (Mitchell) Hublou. He attended St. Lawrence Catholic School and graduated from Milbank High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army, enlisting on June 25, 1945. He was honorably discharged on November 11, 1946.

Eggie returned to the family farm and began his career of agriculture farming and milking cows. He retired from farming in 1996, and moved into Milbank. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and served as an usher. He was a member of the Catholic Foresters. He was a serious competitor playing cards and cribbage. He took delight in his family and friends, and always looked forward to spending holidays, special occasions, and a home cooked meal together. He was described as a “walking almanac,” remembering dates and trivia like no one else. He was a huge baseball fan, especially enjoying the Milbank Fire Chiefs and the Minnesota Twins.

Left to cherish his memory are two sisters: Ione Hublou of Milbank and Betty Ann Pauli of Milbank; a sister-in-law: Lucille Hublou of Milbank and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Jay and Ralph; and two sisters: Elaine Weiland and Mary Layher.

Victor L. Lempka

Victor Lempka, age 88, of Big Stone City died October 8th at the Ortonville Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 11th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City. Father Daniel Wolfgram will officiate and burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday at Mundwiler Funeral Home beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a scripture and rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Casket bearers will be: Travis DeGrote, Brian DeGrote, Mick Dalton, Marlin Hupka, Harold Lempka, and Tom Lempka.

Music will be provided by Paula Rausch, guitarist and Amanda Rausch, vocalist.

Victor Lawrence Lempka was born August 7, 1920, at St. Mary’s, NE. He was the son of Thomas and Julianna (Thoma) Lempka. He was baptized, received First Holy Communion, and was confirmed at St. Mary’s. He attended St. Mary’s (NE) Catholic School before working on the family farm. He was united in marriage on September 12, 1950, with Mary Jane Wolf, at St. Mary’s with Father Walter Potocki officiating.

The couple moved to Crete, NE and Victor was manager of McDonald’s Clothing Store for a few years. They moved to Big Stone City, SD and Victor was employed at the Gamble’s Store. He later owned and operated his own business of appliance sales and service.

Victor was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City. He enjoyed gardening and loved the outdoors. His grandchildren and great grandchild were his pride and joy.

Victor Lempka is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Margaret and Dennis Roggenbuck of Boise, ID and Linda and Brian DeGrote of Montevideo, MN; six grandchildren: Caroline Roggenbuck, Mary (and husband Ben) Novick, Lisa Roggenbuck and Amy Roggenbuck, all of Boise, ID; Travis (and wife Kelly) DeGrote of Hermosa, SD and Heather DeGrote of Montevideo, MN; one great grandchild: Fiona Novick of Boise, ID; three sisters: Regina Pella of Tecumseh, NE; Agnes Lempka of Tecumseh, NE and his twin sister, Victoria Hupka of Lincoln, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Jane; four brothers: Ted, Con, Roman and Sylvester; three sisters: Veronica, Margaret and Monica.

Grace Czmowski

Grace Czmowski, age 84, of Milbank died October 6th at Milbank Area Hospital - Avera Health.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will officiate and burial will be in the St. Otto Cemetery in Webster.

Visitation will be Thursday at Mundwiler Funeral Home beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a scripture and rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Michael Czmowski, Randy Czmowski, Monte Czmowski, Lonnie Czmowski, Bryan Wattier, and Dan Stueber.

Music will be provided by Nancy Johnson, organist Deb Rausch, vocalist, and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir.

Grace Emma Anna (Rohde) Czmowski was born November 25, 1923, in Butler, SD. She was the daughter of Louis Arthur and Emma Bertha Nora (Gramberg) Rohde. She attended rural school at Midway School, Butler Township and Webster High School. She was united in marriage on November 25, 1940, with Herman Anton Czmowski at Webster, SD.

Grace and Herman farmed together south of Webster from 1940-1983. Herman died in 1973. Grace moved into Webster and resided there until 1993, then lived in Watertown from 1993-2001. She moved to Milbank in 2001 and has since resided.

Grace was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster, and active with the Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed music and dancing. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening. She liked to play Yahtzee and participated in the neighborhood birthday party club.

Grace is survived by three daughters: Marie and husband John Bohls of Omaha, NE; Carolyn Wattier of Watertown, SD; Dorothy Sayre of Brookings, SD; three sons: LeRoy and wife Sherry Czmowski of Webster, SD; Tony and wife Joan Czmowski of Milbank, SD and Tim and wife Patty Czmowski of Sioux Falls, SD; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Mae and husband Landis Nelson of Webster, SD; one brother, Louis and wife Helen Rohde of Keystone, SD; and four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons-in-law, two brothers, one sister, one half brother and four grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be given to St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Wallace P. Bracht

Wallace Bracht, age 90 of Milbank died October 4th at Golden Living Center in Milbank.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 8th at 10:30 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Milbank.

Rev. DeVern Schwenn will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Mundwiler Funeral Home from 4 – 7 p.m. and continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.

Honorary bearers will be all Wally’s nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will be: Jon Dravland, Joe Dravland, Mike Trapp, Mark Boerger, Cliff Vitters, and Dick Skaarer. Music will be provided by Sheila Dailie, organist; Sherry DeBoer and Mark Boerger, vocalists.

Wallace Paul Bracht was born October 5, 1917, on a farm west of Milbank. He was the son of Louis and Sarah (Pauli) Bracht. He attended rural school at Grant Center #2. He was united in marriage on October 7, 1941, with Dorothy Marie Busk, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church parsonage in Twin Brooks, SD.

The couple made their first home at 601 South Third Street in Milbank. Wally worked at the McCormick-Deering Store for Art Gesswein and George Boekelheid as a mechanic. Later, Wally farmed and did custom combining. Wally was a Golden Harvest Seed Corn Dealer. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards and always enjoyed attending the state fair. He enjoyed reading farm magazines, watching his crops grow, and surveying his land.

Wallace Bracht is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Milbank; two daughters and sons-in-law: Becky and Tom Dravland of Pierre, SD and Cindy and Mark Neuharth of Huron, SD; two grandsons: Jon and wife Becca Dravland of Sioux Falls, SD and Joe Dravland and fiancé Jennifer Taylor of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters-in-law: Berniece Bracht of Watertown and Marion Benting of Milbank. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Marland, and Ray.

Ruby Hines

Ruby Hines, age 95, of Wilmot died October 4th at Milbank Area Hospital - Avera Health.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Wilmot Lutheran Church. Rev. Steve Moberg will officiate and burial will be in the Wilmot Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Mundwiler Faith Chapel in Wilmot and continue at the church on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.

Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren. Casket bearers will be: Mike Hines, Mark Hines, Jay Hoffman, Charles Remund, John Remund, James Remund, Ronn McDaniel, and Steve Wetrosky. Music will be provided by Neoma Ballhagen, organist; Steve Wetrosky, Brianna Wetrosky, and Rachel Remund, vocalists.

Ruby Magdeline (Barlund) Hines was born May 12, 1913, in Marvin, SD. She was the daughter of Peter P. and Thora (Slaalin) Barlund. She attended school in Wilmot and graduated from Wilmot High School in 1933. She was united in marriage with Harold C. Hines on May 2, 1938, in Wilmot.

In Ruby’s earlier years, she worked as a waitress and at the dry-cleaners. Ruby and Harold lived a short time in Morris, MN and in Ortonville, MN before settling in Wilmot, SD. She was a faithful member of the Wilmot Lutheran Church and active with the ladies activities. Her family will cherish the memories of her wonderful cooking and sharing Sunday dinners together. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid bird watcher and bird feeder.

Mrs. Ruby Hines is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Kelly and Beth Schwartz Hines of Faribault, MN; one son-in-law: Norman “Bud” Remund of Wilmot; one brother and sister-in-law: Norman and Jeanette Barlund of Milbank; 8 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Rosa Lynne, six sisters, four brothers, and one great great grandson.

John C. Foote-Blum

John Foote-Blum, age 66, of Milbank and Springfield, MN died September 29th at his residence in Milbank.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Parkview United Methodist Church in Milbank. Rev. Beth Conrad will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The organist will be Sheila Dailie. Casket bearers will be: D.J. Turner, Jacob Blum, Gregory Blum, Jim Ward, Dezmond Ward, and Jack Barnes. A eulogy will be given by Jim Ward, nephew.

John Carl Foote-Blum was born June 16, 1942, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of John Valentine and Mildred (Bowen) Blum. He attended school in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School in 1960. John served in the United States Navy. He returned to South Dakota and began his career as a signal maintainer for the Milwaukee Rail Road, the Soo Line, and the Canadian Pacific Rail Road. He retired in 1999, due to health reasons.

John was united in marriage on September 15, 1990, with Elaine Foote. He loved his family and grandchildren and was passionate about his Lord. His family takes comfort knowing that John is in his heavenly home with Jesus Christ. John was an avid gardener, spending many hours in his Milbank garden. He also was an avid fisherman, enjoying fishing with his children, grandchildren, and friends. In recent years, John enjoyed selling and telling the healing accounts GoChi.

John Foote-Blum is survived by his wife, Elaine of Springfield, MN; one daughter: Amber Turner of Centeron, Arkansas; two sons: Jay Blum of Gary, SD and Dustin and wife Sandra Blum of Fergus Falls, MN; four grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Schafer of Gillette, WY and Carolyn Vines of Rapid City, SD; a brother-in-law: Phillip Buisse of Sturtevant, WI and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Anthony; four sisters: Norma, Sally, LaVerna, and Wanita; two brothers: Larry and David.

The family suggests memorials be given to Heifer International.
