Scott Skillingstad

Funeral services for Scott Skillingstad, age 47, of Canyon Lake, TX and formerly of Mobridge will be at 10 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Dale Hamre will be officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Scott passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 at his home in Canyon Lake.

Scott James Skillingstad was born on July 4, 1961 in Mobridge, SD to Clarmont and Linda (Merchant) Skillingstad. He grew up in Mobridge and attended school there. Following school he moved to Aberdeen. He married Rhonda Peacock and had a daughter, Ashley. He lived in Aberdeen for some time before moving to Texas. He married Tina Belden and had a daughter, Amber. Scott moved to Mobridge in 1993. He married Kim Tiger and had a daughter, Hanna. Together they lived in Bismarck until Hanna passed away in 2004 when he returned back to Mobridge.

Scott had numerous jobs mainly in construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, singing karaoke, throwing darts, and restoring cars. He was a very talented artist. There wasn’t much that Scott wasn’t good at.

Scott is survived by two daughters, Ashley Webb of Aberdeen and Amber Skillingstad of Mobridge, SD; special friend, Pam Kindel of Canyon Lake, TX; mother, Linda (Lloyd) Fandrich of Canyon Lake, TX; father, Clarmont Skillingstad of Hollywood, LA; brothers, Steve Berg of Billings, MT, Brent Swanson of Louisville, KY, Todd Knudson of Pierre, SD, and Justin Feyereisen of Yankton, SD.

Scott is preceded in death by his daughter, Hanna in 2004, maternal and paternal grandparents, aunt, Gayle Merchant and uncle, Ward Merchant.

Casketbearers will be Spencer Merchant, Tate Merchant, Jesse Hoven, Randy Scheckert, Randy Schmeidt, Jeff Grunendike.

Honorary bearers will be all of Scott’s many friends.

Frank One Feather

Funeral services for Frank One Feather 56 of Little Eagle will be 1:00 PM, CT Saturday, January 24 at the Blue Gym in Little Eagle. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Bullhead. There will be an all night wake service on Friday at the Blue Gym in Little Eagle beginning at 7:00 PM CT. Frank One Feather passed away January 14, 2009 at Med Center One in Bismarck, ND.

Frank One Feather was born on July 10, 1952 to Clifford One Feather Sr. and Vivian Otter Robe in Bullhead, S.D. Frank attended Little Eagle Day School and attended Standing Rock High School where he made 3 state appearances at the Class “A” State Basketball Tournaments. He was also involved in cross country, football and baseball and graduated from high school in 1971. He went on to earn his 2 year degree in 1988 at Sitting Bull College in Fort Yates, N.D.

Frank married Vivian Dupris, and they had 2 children; Naomi & Alton. Then he met Sharon White, their children are; Amy Jo One Feather, Amanda One Feather and Alberta White. Then met Emily Yellow Earrings their children are; Stacey One Feather and Frank Jr. One Feather.

Frank worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Roads Department in Fort Yates, N.D.; the BIA in the accounting office in Aberdeen, S.D.; a Security Guard at YACC in Mobridge, S.D.; and also a residential Aide at Lake Oahe Group Home in Fort Yates, N.D.

Frank is survived by his children; Naomi One Feather & 6 children of McLaughlin, S.D.; Alton One Feather Sr., wife Lynn & 5 children of Eagle Butte, S.D.; Amy One Feather & 1 child of Chamberlain, S.D.; Amanda One Feather of Chamberlain, S.D.; Alberta White of Chamberlain, S.D.; Stacey Yellow Earrings & 3 children of Little Eagle, S.D.; Frank One Feather Jr. & 1 child of Little Eagle, S.D.; 16 grandchildren. Two brothers; Walter One Feather of Little Eagle, S.D. and Clifford One Feather Jr. of Little Eagle, S.D.; Three sisters; Clara (Jeff Sr.) Spotted Horse of Little Eagle, S.D.; Rose One Feather of Little Eagle, S.D.; Doris One Feather of Little Eagle, S.D. and two special nieces; Chantell One Feather & Eden One Feather.

He was preceded in death by his father Clifford One Feather Sr.; Mother Vivian One Feather ; brother Wilfred One Feather and grandsons Casper & Vince.

Norma Schanzenbach

Funeral services for Norma Schanzenbach, age 77, of Selby will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the UCC Church in Selby. Burial will be in the Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A Family service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday at the church. Mrs. Schanzenbach passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Bowdle Hospital.

Norma Jean Schanzenbach was born January 31, 1931 to Lee O. & Lydia (Mathews) Hughes, Sr. in Council Bluff, Iowa. She attended school in Council Bluff until the 9th grade.

On March 16, 1949 she married Robert Schanzenbach in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home on a farm 4 miles SW of Selby. Norma was a homemaker raising her children, and helping Bob stack hay. They moved into Selby in 1980 and Norma worked at Shorty’s Truck Stop for 25 years as a cook and manager where she became very well known for her great cooking. She then went to work at the Selby Nutrition Site for 10 years as the coordinator. She moved into the apartment in 2002 where she has resided until the time of her death.

Norma was a bowler for many years and she enjoyed playing cards especially head & foot. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing quilts for the grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, fishing and boating.

Norma is survived by three sons; Robert (Susan) Schanzenbach of Ft. Pierre, SD, John (Laurie) Schanzenbach of Green River, Wyoming and Jay (Amanda) Schanzenbach of Box Elder, SD. one daughter; Janice (Larry) Goetz of Springfield, South Dakota, grandchildren, Reagan (Dustin) Schanzenbach-Byrum, Sarah Schanzenbach, Luke Schanzenbach, Nikita Schanzenbach, Brett Schanzenbach, McKayla Schanzenbach, Aaron Wilcox and Jenna Schanzenbach, great grandchildren, Brayden, Lincoln and Haidyn. Also one brother Lee (June) Hughes, Jr. of Council Bluffs, IA half brothers; Jim Hughes, Walter Hughes and Bill Leggio all of Council Bluffs, half sisters; Suzie Agnew of Craig, MI, Dorothy Benidict of Craig MI, Sue Lynn Leggio of Council Bluffs and many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Spud “Ginger” Schanzenbach of Selby.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, her parents; brothers, Joe Hughes and Henry Lee Hughes and one half brother, John Hughes.

Casketbearers are Luke Schanzenbach, Brett Schanzenbach, Jay Schanzenbach, Scott Schanzenbach, Aaron Wilcox and Dustin Byrum.

Mary Lee Eisenbraun

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Lee Eisenbraun, age 69, of McLaughlin will be at 2 PM MT on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in McLaughlin. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday at 1 PM MT under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be on Wednesday starting at 5:30 PM MT with a Prayer service at 7 PM at the church. Mary Lee passed away, Saturday, January 10, 2009 at her home in McLaughlin.

Mary Lee Senftner was born June 28, 1939 in Mobridge, SD to Frank and Clara Senftner. She grew up on a farm east of McLaughlin, South Dakota until the age of 4, when her father passed away .Then moved to a farm south of McLaughlin. Mary Lee attended McLaughlin public schools and graduated in 1957. Mary Lee married Art Eisenbraun on January 16, 1960 at St. Bernard’s Church in McLaughlin. Art & Mary Lee raised three sons; Cody, Bert and Boyd.

Mary Lee dedicated her 50 plus years of service to the Cenex in McLaughlin. Mary Lee worked as bookkeeper and office manger. She was always on call for anyone requesting gas, fuel or propane. Mary Lee loved working at the Cenex and you will never find a more dedicated employee. She was a kind generous person who was deeply faithful and lived her life willing to sacrifice for others. She worried about everyone’s welfare and was always willing to help others in need.

Mary Lee spent many years serving her community in the Ambulance service, fire department ducks unlimited and the Catholic Church organizations. Mary lee was a lifelong Elvis fan and loved to dance the jitterbug.

Mary Lee had a great love for her family and grandchildren. She always cherished the times when her boys came home to visit. She loved cooking for her family and friends. She loved McLaughlin and the people in the area.

Mary Lee is survived by her three boys; Cody (Julie) Eisenbraun of Minot, ND, Bert (Karen) Eisenbraun of Norfolk, NE and Boyd (Janet) Eisenbraun of Albert Lea, MN. Six grandchildren; Frank, Cord, Joel, Joshua, Paul, Mary and two step grandchildren; Collen Henderson, John Hupke both of Norfolk, NE, 2 sisters; LaVonne Lofgren of McLaughlin and Lorraine (Charles) Candrian of Regent, ND and 1 brother; Clarence (Jean) Senftner of McLaughlin.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her husband Art of 40 years in 2000, her sister Tish and her parents.

Casketbearers are Frank Eisenbraun, Cord Eisenbraun, Joel Eisenbraun, Josh Eisenbraun, Paul Eisenbraun and Paul Lofgren.

Pius Biegler

Mass of Christian Burial for Pius Biegler, age 77, of Timber Lake will be at 10:30 AM MT on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Burial will be at the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be start at 6 PM MT on Tuesday with a Rosary Service at 7 PM at the church. Mr. Biegler passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital in Mobridge.

Pius Balzar Biegler was born on March 29, 1931 to Ben & Mary (Tschosik) Biegler in Firesteel, SD. He graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1949. He joined the US Navy January 6, 1951. He was honorably discharged on November 16, 1954 and returned to Timber Lake to start farming.

Pius married Marie Silbernagel on September 16, 1958 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City, SD. They made their home on a farm North West of Timber Lake where he has resided until the time of his death. Pius loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing pinochle and cribbage.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Pius is survived by his wife; Marie Biegler of Timber Lake, his children; Karen Biegler of Wake Forest, NC, Debra (Everett) Porter of Edgemont, SD, Pamela (David) Charron of Glendale, AZ, Eugene (Kendra) Biegler of Rapid City, SD, Sonny (Jim) Wheeler of Philip, SD, 16 grandchildren; Jarrod Bihlmeyer, Jennifer Bihlmeyer, Nathan Bihlmeyer, Jessica Blanchard, Ryan Steveson, Kristi Porter, Kyla Porter, James Charron, Brett Charron, Eugene Biegler, Jr. and one great grandchild; Jayden Blanchard, two brothers, Alfred (Mary) Biegler of Timber Lake and Emil (Mary Anne) Biegler of Timber Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Phyllis Martian and an infant sister Martha.

Arthur Genzler

Funeral services for Arthur Genzler, age 72, of Brookings and formerly of Gettysburg will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. Pastor Mark Moldenhauer will be officiating. Burial will be at the Gettysburg City Cemetery under the direction of Ripley Memorial Chapel of Gettysburg. Mr. Genzler passed away Friday, January 09, 2009 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Arthur Genzler was born on January 16, 1936 in his parent's farmhouse; Arthur had a life-long passion for horses. Although he was hurt in a horse racing accident in 1952 when he was 16, Arthur rode and care for his horses. He loved his beloved Sox, who he cared for more than 20 years. As a boy, he was always riding a horse named Pal. He played baseball and later coached little league and a Teeners baseball team in Gettysburg.

He attended Appomattox School (rural Potter County) and later graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1955. A year later, he attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls. Arthur married Virginia Ralston on Sept. 29, 1956. He return home to enter the farming/ranching operation with his father, Fred, five 20 miles northwest of Gettysburg. They ran a 4,000-acre operation that included 600 head of cattle. In 1970, a 440-acre irrigation system was installed. It was the first irrigation system in Potter County.

In 1974, Arthur and Fred Genzler sold the farming/ranching operation. Arthur and Virginia purchased the Coast to Coast store from Ed and Dorla Kremlecek in 1976. In 1984, the Genzlers sold the store to Gary and Pat Baumburger. Arthur and Virginia moved to Vermillion in 1992. In December, 2008 they relocated to Brookings, S.D.

He loved his family and always looked forward to talking/seeing his sisters and seeing his nieces and nephews. He also loved his dogs, including Velvet as well as Cheyenne, Duke, Scamper, Laddie, Sam and Blackie.

He was known for his sense of humor and warm personality. He developed an interest in the stock markets and was a voracious reader of business sections. When he was younger, he read western novels and he loved to watch rodeos. Arthur also thoroughly enjoyed horse races, especially the Kentucky Derby.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, and three sons Don, Glendale, Ariz; Dan, Brookings, S.D.; and Jeff, Sioux City, Iowa; four sisters, Maria Pappas, Mountain Home, Idaho; Gladys Belt, Marion, Ken.; Ruby (Don) Ellsworth, Littleton, Colo.; and Phyllis (Joe) Thomas, Dayton, Ohio; as well as all of his numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents Fred and Charlotte Genzler and one sister Donna.

Casketbearers will be Lanny Wager, Joe Senyak, Larry Madsen, Stan Vogler, Kirk Hansen and Bill Hansen.

Honorary Casketbearers are Don Quimby, Bob Drew, Ken Koops, and Bob Umsted.

Howard Hamre

Funeral services for Howard C. Hamre, age 80, of Mobridge will be at 10:30 AM, Friday Jan. 9, 2009 at the Lakeside Bible Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM the family will be present from 4-6 PM. Mr. Hamre passed away Monday January 5, 2009 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Howard C. Hamre was born May 15, 1928 at Regent, ND to Clarence and Alma (Rogne) Hamre. In 1930 the family moved to Mobridge . He attended school in Mobridge thru the 10th grade when he quit school to help care for his brothers and sisters because his mother had passed away very young. Howard worked with his father and also worked for Antone Rygh as a farm hand and later worked as a plumbers assistant while the MDU power plant was being built. On February 15, 1951 he entered the US Army serving until February 15, 1953. Following his discharge he returned to Mobridge and went to work for Central Lumber. On November14, 1953 he married Willa Kay Batson at the Congregational Church in Yankton, South Dakota. They made their home in Mobridge, South Dakota were they have since resided.

In the late1950’s Howard began working at Morrison Appliance doing plumbing and heating work. As time went along Howard became both a licensed plumber and electrician and worked on the construction of the new Mobridge Hospital and Wrangler Hotel along with the construction of other Mobridge land marks.

In 1966 he started his own business Mobridge Plumbing and Heating with his brother Al and brother-in-law Arvid Gorder which they operated until August 1977. A change came to Howard’s life in 1977 when he turned his life over to the Lord and became the man his Lord wanted him to be and his family needed him to be.

Later in 1977 he went to work for Baker Wholesale which was a plumbing wholesale business in Bismarck. Howard worked in the pump repair side of the business, he became well known and respected for his ability to fix pumps. Howard retired in the fall of 1993 but continued to fix pumps well into retirement.

Howard was a member of Lakeside Church. He loved to garden, and supplied bedding plants and vegetables for the whole neighborhood. He would never plant a tree unless it would produce fruit. Howard also loved to hunt and fish.

Howard is survived by wife; Willa Kay Hamre of Mobridge, SD, 3 sons; Scott Hamre and fiancé Kimberly Berndt of Mobridge, Curtis Hamre and wife Lucinda of Mayville, ND, Craig Hamre and wife Lisa of Oxford, NE. 2 daughters; Crystal Hamre of Bismarck, ND, Julie and husband David Delnell of Kimberly, WI., 1 sister; Shirley Papik of LuVerne, MN. 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Al, Bob and Charles, 1 sister; Grace

Casketbearers are Brian Begeman, Eric Stroder, Beau Sorenson, Seth Hamre, Jarid Hamre and Noah Hamre.

Howard Conway

Howard Clyde Conway was born on December 31, 1935 to Albert and Anna Wittmeier Conway at the home of his parents South East of Pollock, South Dakota. He grew up in the Pollock-Herreid vicinity attending rural schools and later those in Pollock and Herreid.

He died at the Mobridge Regional hospital on January 3, 2009. He had been ill for a number of years and looked forward to the good days when he could be busy on the farm he began to call home in 1956.

In keeping with his wishes for a simple gravesite service with his immediate family attending will be held this week in the Fairview Cemetery, Herreid, SD. Pastor Steven Swann Jr. of the Herreid Baptist Church will officiate. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

On September 18th, 1955 he married Donna Orth at the Herreid Baptist Church. To this union was born one son, Michael Kent. After their marriage they lived in Tioga, North Dakota where Howard was employed by KBM Well Service in the oil fields. They later moved to California where he was employed at various business establishments in the Lodi vicinity. In 1956 they returned to South Dakota and began farming east of Herreid; on the farm Donna’s grandfather Orth had homesteaded when it was still Dakota Territory.

Howard joined the Herreid Baptist Church on December 31, 1959. He had always loved music and became a member of the Church Choir, The Baptist Men’s Quartet as well as other Community Quartets and the Campbell County Community Choir. He and his wife Donna sang many duets together at the funerals of relatives and friends; as well as other social events. He was a member of the Herreid Baptist Men’s Brotherhood, serving as an officer for many years. He was Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Board of Christian Education and the Advisory Board of the Herreid Baptist Church.

In June of 1988 he began working as a statistician for the South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. He served on the Campbell County Election Board for his District for many years. He was a Charter member of Campbell County Cemetery Board. In April, 1989 he began to work for Salzer Trucking of Herreid, South Dakota. He became a “milk man” hauling milk to the Pollock Cheese Plant from local farmers. He also brought candy for the children who waited anxiously for his appearance and each family on his route became “Special People.”

In 1996 could no longer haul milk due to a shoulder injury and it seemed like “retirement” would be near but then came new opportunities. Jim Miller of Miller Construction needed a truck driver and he wanted Howard to come to work for him. No lifting, just driving!!! And this worked out great for all concerned. But driving truck came to an end. Senftner Chevrolet in Herreid needed a Salesman and it was time to try something different and he went to work for them. One day it became apparent that the active life he had lead would have to come to an end because of health reasons. He continued to live on the farm that had become his home in 1956 enjoying his life there.

Surviving Howard are his wife , Donna of 53 years of Eureka. His son Michael and daughter-in-law Becky, Grandchild Kayla and husband Randy Czmowski, Grandchildren, Amanda and Matthew and Two special friends Desiree and Luke.

Howard was preceded in death by his mother in 1967, and his father in 1968.

Harriett "Hanky" Lagan

Funeral services for Harriett Lagan 88 of Gettysburg will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at Christ Church Episcopal in Gettysburg. Fr. John Tarrant will officiate. Burial will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery under the direction of Ripley Memorial Chapel Gettysburg. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the chapel. Mrs. Lagan passed away December 29, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, SD.

Harriett Naomi Mikelson was born March 16, 1920 at Alpha, MN to Oscar and Nina (Moore) Mikelson. She grew up and received her education in the Alpha and Jackson MN area. On June 15, 1938 she married James Lagan at Pappellion, Nebraska. Following their marriage they made their home in Omaha, NB until 1945 when they moved to Lemmon, SD. In 1947 they moved to Whitlock Crossing on the Missouri River west of Gettysburg where they owned and operated the Medicine Rock Café. In 1954 they moved the Café into Gettysburg and continued to operate it until 1959 when they sold it.

Gettysburg continued to be their home. James passed away in August of 1986. Harriett continued to live and work in Gettysburg until the time of her death. Recently she had been a resident of the Oahe Villa in Gettysburg.

While living in Gettysburg she worked as a waitress in almost every Café and lounge in town. Even in her later years she was able to out run and out work most all of the younger waitresses.

She was member of the Christ Church Episcopal of Gettysburg and past member of the Gettysburg Country Club. She enjoyed Golfing, Baking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Harriett is survived by 1 daughter; Kim Lagan of Pierre, SD, 1 daughter-in-law; Sandy Breitkreutz, 4 grandchildren; Curtis, Wanda, Corey and KaCee, 7 great grandchildren; Amber, Travor, Shawn, Jordyn, Faith, Cobey and Caynen, 1 great grandchild; Jackson.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband James, one son; Ronald, infant daughter; Cynthia, 3 sisters; Ora, Thelma, Bernice and 1 brother; Virgil.
