Funeral services for Clifford Young Hawk, 17 of Wakpala will be 10:00 AM, CT, Tuesday, December 30 at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, Wakpala, All night wake, Monday evening at the church. Prayer service at 7:00 PM, Burial at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Cemetery, Fr. Ron Schwartz and Standing Rock Lay Readers will officiate. A Lakota Naming ceremony will be held Monday, 3PM at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge followed by a procession to the church. Clifford passed away on Dec. 25, 2008 of a single vehicle accident near Whitehorse.

Clifford Antonio Young Hawk was born at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN on January 3, 1991 to Scott Scharmer and Michelle Young Hawk. He attended school in St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN, LaPlant, South Dakota and Wakpala, SD. While attending school at Wakpala, he decided he wanted to do more with his life, so he enrolled in the Job Corps. He attended Job Corps in Nemo, SD where he achieved his certificate/license in Electrical maintenance his first job was with First Dakota Enterprises in September of 2008.
Clifford lived briefly with his aunt and uncle, Walter and Rose Jordan while a toddler; later in his childhood he lived briefly with his sister and brother in law, Desiree and Sage Miner.

Clifford was an easy going guy; he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, often saying he wanted all of them to know who UNCLE was. He also loved spending time with his cousins, always calling them his brothers. He was always available to help out his aunties when they needed him.

He had much respect for life and his family. He had a very special bond with his grandfather, Nelson Young Hawk and was proud to carry his name. He also had much love and respect for his dad, Scott. He was also very much a momma’s boy, being the youngest of 6 children; he accomplished a lot in his 17 years. Clifford’s favorite song was “I Can’t Believe It” by T-Pain and Lil Wayne. We’re all going to miss him very much.

Clifford is survived by his parents, Scott Scharmer and Michelle YoungHawk of Wakpala. Brothers; Walter T.J. (Deelia) Jordan of Wakpala and Victor (Stacy) Angulo, Jr. of Mpls. MN, sisters; Desiree (Sage) Miner of White Horse, Brooke (Jorge) Ducheneaux of Swift Bird and Vicki (Joe) Hollow of Mpls. MN, nieces; Angelle, Eve, McKenzie, Sacred, Pressley, Brylie, Dante, special niece; Keearah Ayshia Hawk of SwiftBird, nephews; Clifton, Jorge JJ, Angelo, Carmelo, Cruz, special nephew; Alonzo Jonathan Barrera, White Horse, grand parents; Gladys Hawk of Wakpala, John Four Bear, Mobridge, Robert Tiger, Wakpala, Hunka Uncle; Lyle Poor Bear, Godchild, Mark (B-Mark) Trangsrud and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jayson Duane Tiger-Trangsrud was born on October 1, 1984 to Mark & Stephanie (Tiger) Trangsrud in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up and attended grade school in Minneapolis, his junior year in Iowa and high school in Wakpala. Following his education he continued to live in Wakpala. He enjoyed traveling to many pow-wows around the United States with his uncle and various family members. He also liked a variety of music.

Jayson may not have talked about it or showed it, but he believed very much in his Lakota ways, which was taught to him by his grandma Alice and family. Jay loved his daughter; Shaylin and was excited about bringing another child into the world in January. His brother, cousin and closest friends considered him to be an older brother and role model. He was also a loving cousin and godfather to Heaven Morsette, daughter of one of his closest Aunt Ardie.

He was also known to many as Jay-dub and fat-boy. Jay was known for his kindness, and crazy sense of humor, he always had a way of brightening up someone’s day and making them smile. There was never a dull moment when you were with Jayson.

Even though his life was cut short at the age of 24 he had many aspirations and dreams that were not fulfilled, they will be fulfilled through his loved ones. He touched many hearts while residing in Minneapolis and through out Indian Country. Jay dub being the oldest grandson, was very protective over his closest family and friends especially his only living grandparent Robert.

Although he has left us we all know he is in a better place with his grandmother; Alice and his father; Mark. He will surely be missed, but we all know that he is looking down upon us with his kindness and arms wide open.

With all that said; In remembrance of Jayson all the family ask is when you mourn and cry remember all the times you shared with him, he will always be there for you through good and hard times.

So to our big brother, son, uncle, nephew, father and grandson “You will be truly missed and will always have a special place in our hearts”. We love and will miss you always.

Jayson is survived by his mother Stephanie Tiger of Wakpala, brothers Branden Trangsrud and Tristen Tiger both of Wakpala. Dave Dekker

Funeral services for Dave Dekker, age 74, of Mobridge will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Corner Stone Community Church in Mobridge. Burial will be a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Monday Starting at 4:00 PM at the Corner Stone community Church. A prayer service will be held Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the Church. Dave passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at his home in Mobridge.

Dave Dekker was born September 26, 1935 at Oskaloosa, Iowa to Fred and Helen (Gaass) Dekker. The family lived in Pella, Iowa. Dave was born during the depression and for a time while he was a young boy he and an older brother John lived with an aunt and uncle in Illinois for a short time before joining the family in Bellevue, Nebraska where he attended school graduating in 1953. On September 25, 1956 Dave entered the US Coast Guard.

On October 10, 1959 he married Nancy Elliott in Windham, Maine. Following their marriage they made their home in Marshfield, Mass where Dave finished his tour of duty in the Coast Guard. Following his discharge from the Coast Guard on Sept 23, 1960 they made their home in Bellevue, Nebraska where Dave worked at Offutt AFB in the water department and later he worked for the Water Dept at Bellevue. In 1969 Dave went to work for the Sun Newspaper which was owned by Warren Buffet, where he was advertising manager. In 1974 they came to Mobridge where Dave worked as an Advertising Manager for the Mobridge Tribune until 2000 when he retired. He was then recruited to work for Aberdeen Farm Forum until 2003 when he retired once again. After his retirement Dave would help out at Lucky's Gas N More, Mobridge Motors and Kesling Funeral Home. Dave enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching Nebraska Football.

Dave was a member of the Corner Stone Community Church and served as a deacon and a member of the Mobridge Ham Radio Club.

Dave is survived by his wife Nancy of Mobridge, two sons; Tom (Dani) Dekker of Mobridge and David Dekker of Mobridge, one daughter; Diane Dekker of Mobridge (Fiancé Lee Redlegs of Chandler, AZ), 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, one brother John (Jeri) Dekker of Lyons Nebraska and one sister Vicky (Floyd) Jo Hansen of Friend, Nebraska and Elli his dog that saved his life in 2001.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter; Carol Lynn and one brother Robert.

Funeral services for Jerry Miller, 78 of Trail City, SD will be at 10 AM, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Kesling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 4 PM Monday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Jerry passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Willard Jerome "Jerry" Miller was born on January 27, 1932 in Mobridge to William "W.C." and Hulda (Bluemke) Miller. He attended school in Selby. He worked many years as a farm hand, coal hauler and also construction. He was an expert on dynamite and water witching. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting on Sundays, reading his outdoor and western magazines and books, listening to Kesling Gospel Hour on Sunday morning and having popcorn on Sunday night with his daughter, Janice. He was a very outdoor person. He believed people should have a simple life which would include food, shelter and friends. His best buddies in the world were always his dogs. If you needed a ride or help Jerry would always be willing to lend a hand. He loved his grandchildren. He moved west river in the mid 1970's and has lived in Trail City since 1992. His indian given name was the "Mighty White Hunter". He married JoAnne Goodhouse in 1973. She passed away July 15, 1975. Jerry married Audrey Hartinger on December 23, 1978. He later married Glenda Eagleman in 1985 and she passed away in December of 1985.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Janice Goodhouse (Bill) Netzer of Trail City, four grandchildren, Dustin Swimmer of Wakpala, Nicole Gipp of Mobridge, Madison Gipp of Ft. Yates and James Netzer of Trail City; two great grandchildren, Breann Gipp of Ft.Yates and McKayla Foolsbear of Mobridge; nephew, Dennis (Carol) Zabel & family of Selby; two nieces, Judy (Jack) Schenk & family of Cheney, WA, and Dianne (Ron) Stroh & family of Selby.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W.C. in 1956 and Hulda in 1974, brother LeRoy at birth in 1933, half brothers, Wilbur Miller, Earl Miller, half sisters, Alma Gisch and Lorine Zabel, grandson, Dillon Gipp in 2010.

Baby Paul Archambault

Mass of Christian Burial for Paul Archambault, Jr., 17 of Bullhead, SD will be at 11 AM CT, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Bullhead Gym. Burial will be in St. John's Episcopal Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. An all night wake will start at 6 PM Friday at the gym with a prayer service at 7 PM. Baby Paul passed away March 21, 2010 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Baby Paul James Archambault Jr. was born on October 17, 1992 to Paul and Harriet (Rampersad) Archambault in Mobridge, SD. Baby Paul was well liked throughout the community. He was seen helping with car repairs and helping as a ranch hand. He was "always" lending a helping hand to everyone. Baby Paul was in the process of getting his GED and applied for college courses. He always had a smile on his face! He loved driving around either in his dads truck or on the four wheeler. He was always on the go even temperatures were below zero, he couldn't be kept indoors. Baby Paul also enjoyed horseback riding. He liked spending time with his uncles, Loren and Edgar and his cousin, Tyler. He loved all his nieces and nephews very much. He attended Bullhead Day School and McLaughlin High School. Baby Paul also played sports in middle school, including basketball and football. He enjoyed taking trips to Spokane, WA to see his aunt and cousins.

Ramona Reiker

Memorial services for Ramona Reiker, 78 of McLaughlin, SD will be at 10 AM MT, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the UCC Church in McLaughlin. Rev. Leola Allen will be officiating. Inurnment will be in UCC Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Mrs. Reiker passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

Ramona Fern Reiker was born on August 14, 1931 in McLaughlin to Art and Emma (Schneider) Berg. She attended school at McLaughlin and also helped out on the family farm. In 1952 she married Ben Reiker in McLaughlin and they made their home on a farm east of McLaughlin. Ramona raised her family on the farm and also raised chickens which she in turn sold the eggs and the chickens to help make ends meet. She loved her life on the farm. She worked hard and enjoyed it. While they were on the farm they were also foster parents for numerous children. They retired in 1976 and moved into McLaughlin where they owned the B & R Dray Line in McLaughlin.

Ramona was a lifetime member of the UCC Church, a member of the ladies aid, and was very active in the Senior Citizens Center where she would visit and play cards. She enjoyed traveling especially to see her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, planting a huge garden every year and spending countless hours taking care of it. She was also known for her cooking and canning abilities. Ramona was a wonderful mother and grandmother, spoiling her grandkids every chance she got. She entered the Mobridge Care Center in 1997 where she has since resided. She liked the socializing and activities she was able to do with her fellow residents and staff.

Ramona is survived by five children, Charlotte (Dan) Hern of Rapid City, Michael (friend Theresa) Reiker of Watertown, Bella (Alvin) Volk of Selfridge, ND, Nora (Maynard) Walker of Gillette, WY, and Robin (Jake) Woods of Billings, MT; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Jim (Jean) Berg of Inwood, IA, Tom (Friend, Sandi) Berg of Mobridge, Arlen Berg of Rapid City, Doug (Sue) Berg of Rapid City; one sister, Dona Berg of Rapid City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben in 1987, and two grandchildren, Jonathan Hern and Justina Reiker.

Honorary casketbearers will be all of her friends and staff at the Golden Living Center, her grandchildren: Christopher Reiker, Jessica Reiker, Matthew Volk, Casey "Boo Boo" Walker, Daniel Reiker, Jesse Hern, Jamie Hern, Nicholas Walker, and Nicole Volk, her great grandchildren: Damian Wisdom, Nova Hern, Kelly Hern, Cole Holzer, Clay Holzer, Charles Holzer, and Davis Reiker.

The Thompson Brothers will provide special music. Jeannie Schulz will be the pianist.

Clara Schaeffer

Funeral services for Clara Schaeffer 96 of Mobridge, SD and formerly of Herreid, SD will be Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Norway Lutheran Church rural Glenham, SD. Pastor Dennis Fonkert officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral Home. Mrs. Schaeffer passed away March 12, 2010 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Clara Gjefle Schaeffer was born on October 15, 1913 on a farm south of Pollock, South Dakota to Thomas and Marit "Maggie" (Byfuglien) Gjefle. She attended grade school at Hillside School and then graduated from Pollock High School in 1932. In 1934 she received her State Certificate from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. For seven years she taught in rural schools in Campbell County. Her credits were transferred from Augustana to Northern State in Aberdeen. By attending summer school and one regular year of classes Clara got her degree from Northern State College in 1942. She continued teaching until 1950, were some of this time was spent in the Civil Service where the teachers stayed in a dormitory with the children, taking turns supervising. The boys and girls helped the cooks prepare morning and evening meals and cared for their rooms as well as their clothes.

In 1950 Clara married Edward Schaeffer and they bought a farm southwest of Herreid. This was their home until they retired and moved into Herreid in 1979. Clara loved to travel and had taken several tours to various parts of the U.S., Canada, and three trips to Europe. The biggest thrill of Clara's life was visiting the birthplace of her Grandmother in Norway. To see the house where she lived, the crude fireplace used for cooking as well as the home made furniture, all that was difficult for Clara to comprehend. When the relatives showed pictures and there was one of herself as a child, then she had to believe this was all real. The old house was fascinating with much of the furniture of long ago still there and in good condition.

Clara is a member of Norway Lutheran Church and a past member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid where she taught Sunday School, was a member of Ladies Aid, American Legion Auxiliary, The Herreid Senior citizens and the Friendly Neighbors Extension club

In October 2000 Clara enter the Prairie Sunset Village and was most thankful to be there where she received such good care.

Clara is survived by two daughters; Linda Schaeffer of Albuquerque, Mew Mexico and Karen Schaeffer of Portland, Oregon, nieces and nephews; Marsha (Karl) Merz, Nola (Jim) Irish, Tom Hay, Danny (Janice) Gjefle, Marilyn (Florian) Voller, Kevin (Denise) Hay, Wally Hay, Ed (Stephanie) Van Beek, Mark Van Beek, Gary (Brenda) Larson, Kathleen LeDoux, Patricia Cartwright, Tom Cartwright, many grandnieces and grandnephews, and sister-in-law; Peggy (Everett) Van Beek of Pollock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988, brother Carl, two sisters Thelma in 2003 and another sister Thelma in early childhood.

Casketbearers will be Clinton Kost, Larry Odde, Merle Schuetzle, Carl Gjefle, Darrell Haak, and Dennis Haak.

The organist will be Marilyn Brockel and the soloist will be Martin Mickelson.

Mass of Christian Burial for Ronald Marshall, age 61, of Kenel, SD will be at 10 AM CT, Saturday, at the Kenel Catholic Church of Assumption. Burial will be at 2 PM MT, Monday at the Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. An all night wake will be Friday at the Ft. Manuel Hall in Kenel at 5 PM CT with a Rosary service at 7 PM. Ronald passed away March 13, 2010 at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center in Sturgis SD.

Ronald Cletus Marshall was born on November 19, 1948 to Robert and Marcella (Shooting Bear) Marshall in Kenel, SD. He was educated in Ft. Yates and graduated high school in 1968. Ronald enlisted in the US Army on October 31, 1968. He did one tour of service in Vietnam. While in Vietnam he earned the National Defense 57 Service Medal, the Vietnam campaign Medal with 60 service, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Civil Action Medal First Class. He was Honorably Discharged on October 29, 1971.

Ronald married Pamela Brown in 1974. To this union he became father of two sons, Dustin and Daryl. While married Pamela he attended trucking school in Moorhead, MN for some time before returning home to Kenel. During this time in Kenel Pamela passed away leaving Ronald to raise his sons. He started working for Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the BIA as a Realty Specialist and remained there until the time of his passing. He also graduated from Standing Rock Community College in 1987 with a Farm and Ranch Management Degree.

In 2003 he met Marliss Martinez and on October 2, 2006 they were married at the Messiah UCC Church in Little Oak Creek. They made their home in Kenel. Ronald enjoyed playing softball on the Kenel Jets team and was always reminiscing about playing on that team with a big smile. He was also an avid rodeo fan, attending and participating often as a bull rider. He supported the Standing Rock boys and girls basketball teams trying to make it to the Lakota Nation Invitational every year. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo and visiting with his friends and relatives. He spoke highly of all his coworkers, Vietnam veterans, Rock Creek Post 82, Cheyenne River Lakota Akicita, Little Eagle Post 239, and Mathew Horse Post 259 in Cannonball, ND.

Ronald is survived by his wife Marliss Marshall of Kenel; sons, Dustin (Claudette) Marshall of Kenel and Darrell Marshall of Phoenix, AZ; Step daughter, Manuelita Henry, Adopted son Darwin Marshall of Minot, ND, Special niece, Teresita Stone Child; 6 grandchildren, Pamela, Dustin Jr, and Shane Marshall, Cody, Gunner and Savannah Guardipee; favorite grandchildren; TyAnna Bobtail Bear and Tre'juan Marshall of McLaughlin; sisters; Aleta Martin of Kenel, Roberta Ramsey of Ft. Yates, and Alvina Martin of Kenel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Marvin Martin & Delbert Martin,

sisters; Ramona Marshall Bender, Delphine Martin, Florence Marshall Goben; Grandparents, Clifford Marshall, Bill, Ted, Victor Marshall, Guy Shooting Bear, Ervin Shooting Bear, and Helen Little Bear Shooting Bear.

Ronald fought cancer from the effects of the Vietnam War bravely for 13 months before passing away on March 13, 2010 with his wife, Marliss at his side.

Casketbearers will be Everett Iron Eyes Jr., Wesley Long Feather, Frank White Bull, Duane Vermillion, Cletus Long Feather, Emanual Martinez, Brian Marshall, Dustin Marshall, Randy White Jr., Jon Howard.

Honorary Bearers are All Vietnam Veterans, Veterans Service Officer, Wynelle Clown, Veteran Industries Employees in McLaughlin, Standing Rock Farms, Lavonne Running Bear, Standing Rock Farm Board, Randy Bear Ribs, Clyde Walking Elk, Terry Yellow Fat, Everett Chasing Hawk, Randy & Adele White, All Past & Former Co-workers at Reality offices on SRST/BIA, Chuck Ramsey, Sam Two Shields, Thomas Pheasant, Brian Marshall, Sr., George Jones, Richard Charging Eagle, Delane Cook, Martina Looking Horse, Bernadette Hill, Scott Larrabee, All Tribal Employees, our apologies if we missed anyone
