Ralph Winterbower, son of Walter and LuRue Winterbower, was born March 27, 1927 at Leavenworth, KS. He grew up there and worked at various jobs throughout his life.

He was married to Beth Winterbower for a time. Ralph then married Betty Winterbower. They later divorced.

He spent a few years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary. He then resided in Sioux Falls until his death.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church and enjoyed his Bible study group.

He is survived by numerous friends and acquaintances.

Anthony Edward “Tony” Bontje, son of Gerrit and Francina (Goossens) Bontje, was born January 22, 1924 in Haarlemmermeer, The Netherlands. He grew up in the Netherlands. As a young man Tony was confined in a farced labor camp in Berlin, Germany for three years. He moved with his parents and siblings to Larchwood, IA in 1952.

Tony was united in marriage with Charlotte M. Murphy in Larchwood on June 11, 1955. The couple made their home in Larchwood before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1971. Tony worked in inventory control at Cummins and Brown Drug before retiring. Following retirement he worked part-time at the 33rd and Minnesota Avenue Hy-Vee store for nine years.

Tony was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church and sang in the choir there for 16 years. He was active in Cursillo. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Christ the King Men’s Club. He loved flowers and making floral arrangements. He enjoyed gardening, reading and sharing his Catholic faith. Above all, Tony cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Charlotte Bontje, Sioux Falls, SD; his children, Steve Bontje and his wife, Debbie, Pierre, SD, Elaine Quinn and her husband, Mike, Lake Havasu, AZ, Jeanine Draper and her husband, Don, Anaheim, CA, Mike Bontje, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Bontje and his wife, Theresa, Sioux Falls, SD, Gary Bontje and his wife, Lois, Sioux Falls, SD, two sisters, Francine Hemauer and her husband, Bob, Sun Prairie, WI, Tonni Evans and her husband, Larry, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wilma Zacher.

Halden Joseph Larsen, son of Ralph W. and Matilda (Kapaun) Larsen, was born August 14,
1924 at Humboldt, SD. He grew up and was educated there. They moved to Sioux Falls in
1939, and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1943.

In February 1944, Hal entered the US Navy where he served our country during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in April 1946. He worked as a salesman for Sioux Falls Paint and Glass for 29 years.

Hal was united in marriage with Donna M. Schlueter on August 24, 1950 at Sioux Falls, SD.
They were one of the first 50 families in the Hilltop area. In 1979, they purchased “The Keg” which he owned and operated until 1994 when he sold the business to his son, Neil Larsen. Hal loved to spend time with his family and his friends at the Keg. He enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting and golfing.

He was a charter member of St. Lambert’s Catholic Church, and a member of the John M. Bliss VFW Post# 628.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Donna Larsen, Sioux Falls, SD; one daughter,
Nancy Funke and her husband, Butch, Brandon, SD; four sons, Grant Larsen and his wife,

Ruby Ramona Hay, daughter of John H. and Mary E. (Colburn) Hay, was born April 8, 1925 on a farm in Moody County, SD, near Flandreau. She grew up and received her education in Flandreau, SD.

Ruby was united in marriage with Rudolph W. Schmidt in Mitchell, SD on May 31, 1962. She worked as an operator for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company before retiring in 1977 after 17 years of service.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Roberta Przymus and her husband, Francis, Sioux Falls, SD; a stepson, Larry Gene Schmidt, Plymouth, MN; three step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph, on February 5, 1979; her parents; and two sisters, Rachel Newbern and Reva Niemela.

Lena Marie “Toni” Wilde, daughter of Ernest and Ida (Vanderwerf) Wilde, was born January 9, 1921 near St. Cloud, MN.She spent her early years in Monroe and Vilas, SD, moving to Sioux Falls in 1929. Toni received her education in Sioux Falls and was graduated from Washington High School in 1939. On March 8, 1942 she married Lawrence A. Martindale. She worked at various places including several dress shops, Shriver’s, Sioux Falls Book and Stationary, and SoDak Distributing. On May 9, 1958 she was united in marriage with Barrett T. Waters who was a recruiter for the U.S. Marine Corps. The couple moved to Camp Pendleton, CA where they made their home until his retirement in 1959. They then lived at Sylvania, GA for three years where Toni was employed with Southern Bell Telephone. They returned to Sioux Falls in 1962. Toni worked for Minnegasco for over seventeen years retiring in 1981. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.

Toni’s spare time was spent doing craft work. Over the years she participated in many craft shows, but for the past few years she took her crafts to a local shop specializing in “handmades.” She was called the “Angel Lady” by the shop manager because of her interest and love of making different kinds of angels for sale.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband; two grandchildren, Chris Hadaway, Ames, IA, Keith Hadaway, Cambridge, IA; three great grandchildren, Dustin Lynch, Cheyenne Hadaway, and Seth Hadaway; one brother, Charles D. Wilde, Sioux Falls, SD.

Toni was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Hadaway; her parents; one brother, Ernie Wilde; and one sister, Rose Paul.

Kenneth Leroy Bossman, son of Harvey and Ethel (Radloff) Bossman, was born September 3, 1939 near Harrisburg, SD. He attended Lincoln Bubolz School and graduated from Harrisburg High School. Ken furthered his education at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion; Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls; National College of Business in Rapid City; and Enterprises for the Blind in Arkansas.

Ken’s professional career included positions with the South Dakota State Highway Department in Pierre and Beresford, SD; Ross Accounting in Mitchell, SD; E.K. William’s Company in Sioux Falls; and the Internal Revenue Service both in Aberdeen, SD from 1972 to 1983 and in St. Paul, MN from 1983 to 1991.

Ken was a member of numerous civic and professional organizations including the South Dakota Association of the Blind; the HUB City Lions Club; the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International; the Elks; the Moose Lodge; and the Eagles. He was a member of Masonic Blue Lodges, Aberdeen Lodge #38 of Aberdeen, SD where he was a life member and a duel membership at St. Paul Lodge #3 of St. Paul, MN, Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, Minnesota Chapter #1 of Royal Arch Masons, St. Paul Council #1, Damascus Commandery #1 Knights Templar, Yeldez Shrine in Aberdeen, SD, and Ghora Khan Grotto.

Loren Alvin Wiese, son of Herbert and Leota (Else) Wiese, was born January 23, 1944 at Valley Springs, SD. He grew up there and graduated in 1961 with the last graduating class of Valley Springs High School.

Loren was united in marriage with Judy Den Boer on January 12, 1968 at Rapid City, SD. The couple settled in Sioux Falls, SD where he began working for Cummins Engine Co., Everroad Supply, Holcomb Freightliner and currently Sioux Falls Kenworth. Loren worked until April 16, 2002 when he became unable to continue due to his health.

Loren loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Sam. He enjoyed his work in the trucking industry and the friends he acquired through the years. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and later in life, carpentry, woodworking, and gardening.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Judy Wiese, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Michelle Harkema, Sioux Falls, SD; a granddaughter, Samantha Harkema, Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers, Larry Wiese and his wife, Shar, Rapid City, SD, Lonnie Wiese and his wife, Vicki, Mitchell, SD, Lance Wiese, Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Linda Danielson and her husband, Michael, Sioux Falls, SD; his mother-in-law, Jennie Den Boer, Rock Valley, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jack Roy Cummins, son of Roy and Ruth (Olson) Cummins, was born December 17, 1924 at Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Sioux Falls and attended Washington High School. He entered the US Army in 1943 where he served during WW II in India, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He spent 8 ½ years working in Dallas, TX and then moved to California. He worked for many years as a supervisor for Hughes Helicopter in Culver City, CA and Boeing Aircraft in San Diego and Los Angeles, CA. Jack helped design the templates for the Apache Helicopters. Following his retirement in 1984 he moved back to Sioux Falls.

Jack was a very skilled craftsman in sheet metal work and enjoyed the detail work of cars and model cars. He also enjoyed sports.

Grateful for having shared his life are a sister-in-law, Violet Cummins, Sioux Falls, SD; four nieces, Susan Kiner and her husband, Bob, Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy Johnson and her husband, Don, Cocoa Beach, FL, Denna Cummins, Dallas, TX, Joanne Roschewski, Torrance, CA; five great-nephews; and four great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Orval, Leonard, and Clayton; and two sisters, Mildred Keith and Evelyn Stewart.
