Alice Faye LeMar was born December 12, 1954 to Philip and Agnes (Boe) LeMar in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Sioux Falls where she attended Washington High School. Alice was a homemaker and daycare provider.
She married Pierre Barnabe on March 6, 1998 in Sioux Falls. Alice attended East Side Baptist Church in Sioux Falls. She loved her family, and raising her children was a priority. Alice enjoyed gardening and taking care of her home. She liked visitors and entertaining company.
Surviving relatives include her son, James Goodrich and her daughter, Michelle Goodrich, both of Sioux Falls; her parents, Philip and Agnes LeMar of Sioux Falls; her sisters, Marcia Banks of Sioux Falls, Rose Morris of Colorado Springs, CO, and Inez Shapiro of Bend, OR; numerous nieces and nephews; her uncle, Curly LeMar; her aunts, Lois Boe, Ann Boe, and Vera Boe; numerous cousins; and other family the Hoyer Honomichl family, Karen Griffin and the Wilson family, and a very close friend, Dodie Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon LeMar, in 1985.

Milford Soward was born January 16, 1934, at Madison, SD, to Alvin and Hilda (Lommen) Soward. He moved with his family to George, Iowa, where he attended school.

Following his marriage to Carol Karsten, the couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD. On July 15, 1952, he began his career at the South Dakota Air National Guard in the Motor Pool division. He retired on May 1, 1986, after 34 years. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Soward Repair, an auto repair and starting service.

Milford enjoyed fishing at the Missouri River, area lakes, and Canada. In his free time, he was involved with restoring his 1937 Chevy pickup. Milford freely made himself available to others for their auto needs.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Bob Soward, Sioux Falls, SD, Mike Soward, Spearfish, SD; granddaughter, Sarah Soward, Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers, Eldon Soward and his wife, Peggy, Lake Preston, SD, James Soward, Los Angles, CA, and Edward Soward and his wife, LaVonne, Sioux Falls, SD. His brother, William, preceded him in death.

Donald Brodock was born March 14, 1929, at Lansing, Michigan. Following his graduation from high school at Middleville, MI in 1947, he joined the United States Navy. Don served during the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to Marlene Pearson on June 1, 1952, in Garretson, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Don worked for Manchester Biscuit Company. In October 1961, he began his career at Lakeside Dairy as a technician in the milk-packaging department. Don retired from Lakeside Dairy in 1998 after 37 years. Marlene and Don were just days short of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

For a number of years, he enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. He loved the outdoors. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, he was involved as an Indian Guide Leader, in addition to coaching softball and Gray-Y Basketball. Don was a member of First Lutheran Church where he was a past usher.

Throughout his life, Don maintained a strong work ethic and was a deeply committed provider for his family. The legacy he leaves behind as a loyal and loving husband and father will remain forever.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marlene Brodock, Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Kevin Brodock and his wife, Barbara, Colorado Springs, CO, Reed Brodock, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Kerri Brodock, Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, Darin, Corey, Ross, Ryan and Erika; sister, Ethel Karns and her husband, Parmer, Lansing, MI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Verne Harvey, son of Sylvia (Sayles) and William Harvey, was born September 12, 1914 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He grew up there attending Washington High School.

In 1934, he was united in marriage to Dorothy I. Lorenzen. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan where Verne worked for US Rubber. They moved back to Sioux Falls in 1947 where he and a partner owned and operated Soo Cab Company. Throughout the years, Verne later operated Yellow Cab and Safeway Cab, retiring from Yellow Cab in 1976.

Verne enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his favorite social activity was playing cards.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Dorothy; a son, Dennis Harvey and his wife Luisa, Vermillion, SD; a daughter, Sherill Kinsley and her husband Richard, Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Donald Harvey; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

His parents, several siblings and sons, William R. and Steven L. Harvey, preceded him in death.

Myrline M. Young, daughter of Alvia (Alinder) and Chester Young, was born February 11, 1917 in Northville, SD. She grew up in the Northville and Ashton, SD areas and completed her education in Morristown, SD.

On July 15, 1940 she was united in marriage to Malcolm Schliemann in Rock Rapids, IA. The couple lived in Iowa for a short time before settling in Sioux Falls. Myrline’s life centered on being a loving homemaker and mother. She enjoyed sewing and playing the organ.

She was a member of the Golden Age Club and the Sioux Valley Horseshoe Club. Myrline was a nine-time state Horseshoe Pitching Champion in South Dakota.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Malcolm; a daughter, Malvia Pritchard, Montrose, SD; two sons, Donald and his wife Marlene, Sioux Falls, Milford and his wife Shirley, Beaver Creek, OH; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Loran Young and his wife Arlene, Tucson, AZ; her sister, Ardith Olson and her husband Robert, Volga, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Milford and her twin, Myrle; a sister, Eleanor Young and a grandson.

Lois May Johnson was born April 1, 1917 to Eddie and Agnes (Newman) Johnson at their home in Centerville, SD. She grew up in Centerville where she received her education, graduating from Centerville High School. She then attended the University of South Dakota. Lois worked for the State of South Dakota with the Highway Dept. in Pierre for 7 years. She worked for Jack Rabbit Bus Lines, then began her career as coordinator and administrative assistant for the US Army. She held that position for 23 years, retiring in 1973. Following her retirement, she enjoyed working at Designers Limited in Sioux Falls.

Lois was a member of First Congregational Church for over 50 years, was very active in the Toastmistress club, and was a member of the Ivy Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Centerville, SD for over 50 years.

Surviving relatives include her sister, Doris McAthie and her husband, William, of Sioux Falls; two nephews, Dale McAthie and his wife, Ruth, of Canton, SD and Dean McAthie and his wife, Janet, of Carmel, CA.

Linda Lee Leaf
Died: Jul 12, 2002

Linda Lee Hofer, daughter of Orville and Irene (Anderson) Hofer, was born May 15, 1961 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Bridgewater, SD and graduated from Bridgewater High School. She then moved to Sioux Falls where she worked for a period of time before moving to Minneapolis, MN.

In Minneapolis, she met her future husband Eric J. Leaf and they were united in marriage on April 23, 1988 in Sioux Falls. The couple lived in Minneapolis and later returned to Sioux Falls where Linda was presently employed at New Start Credit Services. Linda will be remembered for her caring, giving, personality that was never judgmental.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Her greatest joy was watching her son Casey in anything that he participated in.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Eric; her son, Casey; parents, Orville and Irene Hofer, Bridgewater, SD; three sisters, Marcia Smith, Sioux Falls, Shelli (Todd) Kirby, Salem, SD, Janelle Hofer, Deptford, NJ; a brother, Eugene (Tara) Hofer, Bridgewater, SD; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Willard and Jean Leaf, Bemidji, MN; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Mary Tuenge
Died: Jul 16, 2002

Mary R. Tuenge was born May 8, 1916, in Wilmont, MN, to August and Barbara (Angermeir) Oberloh. As a young child, she moved with her family to Sioux Falls, where she attended public schools.

Mary was married to Herman Tuenge in the early 1930’s, at Canton, SD. She worked as a waitress.

On September 13, 1949, she married Arthur Tuenge, at Luverne, MN. Working as a care provider, Mary was employed with Sioux Valley Hospital for 12 years and then began working for Bethany Lutheran Home. She retired in 1981. Also active as a volunteer for the Veterans Administration Hospital, Mary had logged-in over 1000 volunteer hours for various departments. She then worked as a private in-home care provider in Sioux Falls.

Arthur died on January 19, 1966.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed crocheting, handwork, and making afghans. She also enjoyed traveling on several trips throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

She was a member of Augustana Church, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Auxiliary, Degree of Honor, Rebecca’s Noble Grand, Ladies Encampment Auxiliary, and the International Order of the Odd Fellows.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Fred Tuenge, Sioux Falls, SD, Ronald Tuenge and his wife, Darsha, Rock Rapids, IA, David Tuenge and his wife, Janet, Sioux Falls, SD, Douglas Tuenge, Worthing, SD; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, two sons, Mike and Robert; three daughters, Elaine, Lorraine and Deanna; and a great-grandchild, Josh, preceded her in death.
