Theodore J. Hippen
Died: Nov 17, 2003

Theodore J. (T. J.) Hippen was born July 24, 1911 in Chancellor, SD to John and Lena (Witte) Hippen.

He moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1930.

He entered the insurance business in 1937 in Sioux Falls and for many years was General Agent for Monarch Life Insurance Company.

He married Adelia E. Jacobson March 21, 1935.

Adelia passed away in 1957.

Ted later married Noma Frantz on May 17, 1973. Noma passed away in 1993.

He is survived by his son, Dennis and his wife Allison, of Dellwood, MN; three grandchildren, Hillary (Michael), Drew, Chase (Jaclyn); one great grandson, Cooper; one brother, Edward of Sioux Falls, SD; four sisters, Evelyn Witkop, Sioux Falls, SD Margaret Schmidt, Colton, SD, Florence Rutan, Bradenton, Florida, Elenor Noordsy, Sioux Falls, SD.

Three brothers, Preston, Lavern, Ernest and one sister, Rose, preceded him in death.

He was a member of Unity #130 Lodge Sioux Falls, Scottish Rite, El Riad Shrine, member of the El Riad Shrine Chanters, Eastern Star Rapid City, life member of the Elks Club, member of the Episcopal Church and Past Senior Warden of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

He was active with Crippled Children, Chairman of Under Privileged Children for the Shrine Circus for 27 years.

The family wishes to express thanks and appreciation to the Good Samaritan Village on Marion Road for all their kindness and assistance to Ted in the past months and ask that memorials be directed to the Good Samaritan Village.

Ted’s family thanks you for your support and presence today.

An invitation is extended to join them at the church fellowship hall for refreshments and fellowship following the committal service.

Elfrieda Karitons
Died: Nov 18, 2003

Elfrieda was born June 22, 1907 in Latvia.

Following her birth, she and her family moved to Russia during World War I.

They returned to Latvia in 1922, when Latvia was declared independent.

She grew up and received her education in Latvia, having attended the University of Latvia.

Elfrieda was united in marriage with Vilas Karitons on January 25, 1935.

In 1944, they were forced to leave their home in Latvia when Communist troops invaded the country.

They lived in a refugee camp in Germany until moving to the United States in 1949.

Elfrieda and Vilas settled in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where they continued to live until the time of her death.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Vilas, of Sioux Falls.

She is also survived by relatives living in Latvia.

The family of Elfrieda Karitons thanks you for your support and presence today.

Leland "Bud" May
Died: Nov 20, 2003

Leland B. May was born June 9, 1919, at Bedford, IA, to Harry and Alice (Graves) May.

He graduated from Bedford High School and in 1940, entered the US Army.

He served during WWII.

Bud was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Paxton in September 1941, at Des Moines, IA.

After he received his honorable discharge from service in 1945, the family lived in Des Moines, IA, where Bud began his career with National Cash Register as a technician.

During the summers of his employment with NCR, he studied electronics at a technical school in Dayton, OH.

In 1975, the family moved to Ft. Dodge, IA.

Bud began working for Data Business where he continued his work with NCR machines.

Following his retirement in 1988, he moved to Lake Pointset, SD, where he helped operate the family business at Lynmar Resort.

He enjoyed working outdoors on the resort grounds and also doing maintenance projects.

Mary Ellen preceded him in death in May 1993.

Bud enjoyed playing cards and pool, and liked fishing and camping with his family.

Carrying Christ with him wherever he would go, Bud was a man with deep faith.

His Lord was always an important aspect of his life.

Charitable and caring, Bud’s giving spirit will be long treasured.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Robert May and his wife, Barb, Sioux Falls, SD, Paul May and his wife, Rachel, Mt. Pleasant, IA, Richard May and his wife, Sally, Cedar Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother, Charles May, of Des Moines, IA.

In celebration of his life, the family of Bud May deeply thanks you for your prayers, support and presence today.

Marlon Gib Gibson
Died: Nov 22, 2003

Marlon “Gib” Gibson was born in Lennox, SD to Roy and Ina (Gors) Gibson on June 22, 1925.

He grew up and received his education in the Lennox area.

Gib enlisted and served in the United States Navy During World War II.

He enlisted on November 27, 1942 serving at the USNTS Great Lakes, IL and on the USS Iowa, and received an honorable discharge on October 27, 1945.

He was a man that was always on the go and always had a projected going.

He enjoyed going to local auctions, restoring things, gardening, both vegetable and flowers, and car racing.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Rick Gibson, Mert (Carla) Gibson, Laurel, MT, Paula Ollerich, Sioux Falls, SD, and Scott Gibson, Ft. Myers, FL; eight grandchildren, Amy Gibson, Melissa Felsheim, Scott Ollerich, Heather Gibson, Cole Gibson, Jason Gibson, Jared Gibson, Jeremy Gibson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents a son, Charles Gibson, and a grandson, Derik Gibson preceded him in death.

Keven Lee White
Died: Nov 25, 2003

Hartford, Keven Lee White was born at Sioux Valley Hospital on August 15, 1950, to Ralph and Dolores (Hansen) White.

He attended Lyons School and graduated from Tri-Valley in 1968.

Upon graduating, he farmed with his dad.

He also worked for Camfield Construction and Swartz Manufacturing.

He was assistant manager at the Minnehaha Coop Feeders by Crooks.

On September 22, 1972, he married Mary Gillen of Humboldt.

They lived on his grandfather’s farm.

He worked for the Colton Farmer’s Elevator and raised Sheep.

In 1980, they were nominated as Master Purebred Sheep Producers.

Keven worked for the Colton Farmers Elevator for 24 ½ years as the Assistant Manager until ill health forced him to retire.

He worked for the US Postal Service part-time from July 2000 until August 2003.

He then worked at Dakota Angler until the time of his death.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include five sons, Chad (Kelly) White, Aurora, Shane White, Hartford, Michael White, Sioux Falls, Curtis White, Hartford, Dustin and his friend Ashley, Sioux Falls; two brothers, Dennis (Juleen) White and Thomas (Michelle) White, Two sisters, Carol (Sean) Callahan and Kristi (Greg) Staton; one granddaughter, Sierra White; nine nephews and two nieces; special friend, Dr. Lori Krome; three pseudo sons, Earl Siemonsma, Wyatt Anfinson and Michael Venenga and many other special hunting and fishing buddies.

In addition to his father, Ralph White, his grandparents, Boots and Mabel White and Evald and Lottie Hansen preceded him in death.

Merlyn Gulbranson
Died: Nov 26, 2003

Merlyn “Merk” Gulbranson, age 74 of 6615 W. 43rd Place, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage after a courageous battle with cancer.

Merlyn “Merk” Gulbranson, son of Hilmer and Mathilda (Floren) Gulbranson, was born October 27, 1929 in Trent, SD.

He grew up there graduating from high school in 1947.

On July 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Dolores Thomas in Trent.

“Merk” began working for the Bell Telephone Company in Aberdeen, SD for a period of time before moving to Sioux Falls where he continued with the company.

He then was transferred to Des Moines, IA where he worked for seven years before retiring.

The couple then moved to Goodland, KS where “Merk” taught at a vocational school.

After seven years in Kansas the couple moved to North Carolina where they lived for seven years before moving back to Sioux Falls in 1999.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church, the Sioux Council of the Telephone Pioneers (past president) and a member of the Lions Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Dolores, four sons: Randy (Sandi) Gulbranson, Chadron, NE, Gary (Jorie) Gulbranson, Bellevue, WA, Guy (Laurie) Gulbranson, Mocksville, NC, Kevin (Ricki) Gulbranson, Miramar, FL, a daughter, Gay (Dewayne) Puthoff, Martinsdale, IA, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister, Arlene Kreber, Sioux Falls, and a host of other relatives and friends.

His parents, a granddaughter, Marci, a sister, Helen and three brothers, George, Norval and Lolly preceded him in death.

Sherry Putzier
Died: Nov 26, 2003

Sioux Falls, Sherry Kay Putzier, 63, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Sioux Valley Hospital.

Sherry the daughter of Lloyd and Bess (Knight) Shiflet was born in Ft. Pierre, SD on June 20, 1940.

She grew up and received her education in Ft. Pierre and gradated from Stanley County High School.

Following her high school graduation she attended Nettleton in Sioux Falls.

Sherry was united in marriage with Monte Putzier on July 24, 1960 in Pierre, SD.

In 1962 they moved to Sioux Falls and Sherry stayed at home to raise their family.

Sherry enjoyed family vacations, traveling and going to rodeos throughout the United States and Canada.

She enjoyed reading romance novels, watching Young and the Restless, and reality television.

Grateful for having shared her life are her, husband, Monte, Sioux Falls; sons, Scott (Susan) Putzier, Olympia, WA, Charles (Ann) Putzier, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Amanda, Catie, Alexandra, and Michael; sister, Nancy Norfolk, Denver, CO; and a host of family and friends.

Memorial services will be 2 pm Saturday at Miller Funeral Home 13th & Main.

Sherry was a strong believer in donation and with the help of the South Dakota Lions Eye Bank her family was able to fulfill her wishes.

Patricia Marie (Elliott) Swartz-McCarthy
Died: Nov 25, 2003

Trish was born on July 2, 1960 in Canton, SD to Phyllis and Ray Elliott.

She grew up and received her education in Sioux Falls where she attended Washington High.

Trish married Jeffrey Robert Swartz on March 17, 1979.

Their daughter Heather Marie was born in November of 1979.

Their first-born son Tyler Jeffrey was born in July of 1981 and the youngest child Taylor Robert was born in February of 1984.

She always said that her children were her greatest accomplishments.

The last years of her life were spent with her family and very special friend, Hank Rikkers.

Trish loved to camp at the lake whenever she could.

She had a love for animals, especially her two beloved dogs Whisper and Gizmo.

She is also survived by her son in-law, Justin Henderson, three brothers; Chuck, Steve ((Mary) and Mike Tebben, six sisters; Gloria Hutson, Linda Sletten, Mary Graves, Deb (Mark) Hennig, Lisa (Lance) Frisbee, Vickie Elliott, sister in-law, Cheryl Tebben; eleven nieces and ten nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her mother Phyllis Goeman, her father Ray Elliott, a son Tyler, two brothers, Larry and Brian Tebben and a sister, Robin Elliott, preceded her in death.

Margaret Schroeder
Died: Nov 25, 2003

Margaret F. Schroeder age 97, a long time Northwestern Bell Telephone employee, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at Dow-Rummel Village.

Grateful for having shared her life are her niece, Patricia Roberts, Northglenn, CO, a nephew, John Paul Schroeder, Overland Park, KS, several great and great-great, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Brandon Ausdemore
Died: Nov 24, 2003

Brandon Ausdemore, 20, Sioux Falls, passed away at his home after a long courageous battle with leukemia.

Brandon was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on April 8, 1983.

He attended school in New Richmond and Hudson Wisconsin for 9 years before moving to Sioux Falls in 1992.

He was a 2nd year senior at Roosevelt High School.

Brandon had a love for life with his happy go lucky style and contagious smile, loved to watch all sports both on TV and in person.

The Minnesota Vikings were his favorite football team.

For the past 4 years he saw the Vikings play.

He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Twins on television and going to the Sioux Falls Skyforce basketball games.

His greatest hobby was playing video games, which he was very good at.

He loved traveling, whether it is just around town or going someplace far away.

He had an amazing memory of trip events.

He will be remembered as someone that rarely complained about going through 6 plus years of chemo.

He was more concerned about the nurses and other patients than about himself.

Grateful for sharing his life are his parents, Pam & Ken Ausdemore, one sister, Britni.

Two grandparents: Lois Fischer from Homer, NE and Josephine Ausdemore from Sioux Falls.

Uncles, aunts, and first cousins include Chuck, Connie, Kari, & Kyle Schoenberner, Dan Ausdemore, and Marlin, Leisa, Erica, Michael, and Kaitlin Ausdemore.

He was preceded in death by two grandparents and one step grandparent.

The family of Brandon Ausdemore thanks you for your support and presence today.

Ronald Bedient
Died: Nov 27, 2003

Ronald Wade Bedient was born May 30, 1949 in Sioux Falls, SD to William Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Bertelsen) Bedient.

Ronald grew up and attended school in Sioux Falls.

Ronald started working for Avera McKennan Hospital in the food service department where he worked for 35 years until his health forced him to retire.

Ronald enjoyed hunting.

Ronald is survived by his brother, Larry W. Bedient of Sioux Falls; sister, Robin (Randy) Jaques of Sioux Falls; and nephew, Randy Jacques II of Sioux Falls.

The family of Ronald W. Bedient thanks you for your support and presence today.

Catherine "Jane" Schock
Died: Nov 28, 2003

Jane was born on May 14, 1924 in Rockwell City, Iowa to George and Wilhelmina Melody.

In 1926 her family moved from Iowa to Hoven, South Dakota, eventually settling in Gettysburg in 1935.

Jane graduated from high school in Gettysburg among a class of 32 students.

While in high school she was a cheerleader and enjoyed playing clarinet in the school band.

She met Ozzie while they were attending South Dakota State University.

They married on August 16, 1947, in Gettysburg.

They settled in Sioux Falls and raised six wonderful children.

Jane, an exceptional wife and mother, was very active in her community and her church.

A sports enthusiast, she was an avid golfer as well as spectator.

She enjoyed the Vikings and never missed watching a Twins game.

She is survived by her brother Bill of Sioux Falls.

Also grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Judy Davis and her husband Phil, Sioux Falls; Melody St. John and her husband Paul, Los Angeles, California; Peggy Kirby and her husband Kevin, Sioux Falls; Patty Gates-Firehammer and her husband Mark, Northampton, Massachusetts; Cathy Dudley and her husband Stephen, Portland, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ozzie, and her son David.

She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren Allison Davis of Chandler, Arizona; Paul and Colin Kirby of Boulder, Colorado; Brandon Gates of Bellingham, Washington; Kristin Kirby of Sioux Falls; Katie and Nicole Dudley of Portland, Oregon.

Lillian Simpson
Died: Dec 2, 2003

Lillian Borgendale was born July 9, 1907 in Dawson, MN.

She grew up in Dawson where she received her education, graduating from Dawson High School in 1924.

In 1926, she moved to Sioux Falls and attended Nettleton College.

On July 13, 1929, she was united in marriage with Robert S. Simpson at Canton, SD.

The couple lived in Sioux Falls where Lillian worked as a waitress, first at McKennan Café for 7 years, then at the Town & Country Restaurant for 8 years.

She retired in 1969.

Lillian was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church, the Women Of The Moose where she served on the Degree of Honor, and Grandmothers Club.

Her husband preceded her in death on October 2, 1980.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Robert J. Simpson and his wife, Minerva, of Simi Valley, CA and William A. Simpson and his wife, Beverly, of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Gladys Boxrud of Wilmar, MN and Phyllis Saltee, of Canby, MN.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; 2 daughters, Cora Ann and Helen; one son, Charles; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters

Mitzi Russick
Died: Nov 27, 2003

Mitzi Russick was born April 22, 1927, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Monte and Bernice Stern.

She graduated from Washington High School in 1945, and attended Carlton University.

Mitzi was a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls.

During her career she worked at Fantle’s Department Store and at Donahue Furniture. She retired in 1992.

In addition to her deep love for animals, her main interests were gardening, reading, and caring for family and friends.

Mitzi was known for her humor and goodness of heart.

Mitzi is survived by her sister, Barbara Kay, Roslyn Heights, NY; daughter, Susan Bott, Denver, CO; son, David Russick and his wife, Sara Russick and grandchildren, Lillian Rose Russick and Claire Mitzi Russick, Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Doris Stern, San Diego, CA, niece, Gwyn Enright, San Diego, CA; and two very special friends, Marjorie Trobak and Kay Steinmetz. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Charles Stern.

Memorials may be directed to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, 3720 East Benson Road, Sioux Falls, SD, 57104.
