Mary Adell Heagy, daughter of Andrew T. and Clara (Breitenfeldt) Heagy, was born December 25, 1916 at Bryant, SD. She grew up there and graduated from Bryant High School in 1935. She then attended Nettleton Business College.
Mary was united in marriage with Carl R. Gruber on January 3, 1942 at Beatrice, NE. The couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1945. In the early 1970’s, she became a co-owner of the Tip-Top Cafe for five years. Her husband, Carl, died May 2, 1974. Mary worked as a cook at Good Samaritan Center for six years and then worked as an office and crafts helper at Dow Rummel Village for eight years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and Dow Rummel Village Auxiliary.
Mary enjoyed cooking, playing the organ and spending time with her grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Karla Van Ningen, Sioux Falls, SD, Deborah Dede and Roland Horstman, Hartford, SD, and many children of the heart; seven grandchildren, Candy, Heather and her husband, Curtis, Diana, Jessica, Jay, Clinton, and Eric; four great-grandchildren, Rachael, Zachary, Emilee, and Shea; a sister, Ruth Oien, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Carl, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth; and two sisters, Geraldine and Lorena.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at St. Joseph Cathedral immediately following the Mass of Christian Burial and prior to the interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

William “Bill” VanVelzen, son of Peter and Jennie (Bos) VanVelzen, was born April 26, 1923 in Magnolia, MN. Bill moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD when he was six months old. Bill grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education at Washington High School. Following graduation, he worked a number of odd jobs in Sioux Falls.
Bill was united in marriage with Roma “Ferne” Besew on November 30, 1942 in South Sioux City, NE. He served in the United States Army in 1943. Following his honorable discharge later that year, Bill worked for John Morrell & Company for several years. He then owned and operated Roof Service for 45 years.
Bill was united in marriage with Beatrice Steensma on April 25, 1987 in Nashua, IA.
He was a charter member of First Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed antique cars, traveling and his work. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Beatrice VanVelzen, Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, William R. VanVelzen and his wife, Karen, Bloomingdale, TN, Pete VanVelzen and his wife, Maria, Sheldon, IA; two daughters, Lynn Devlin and her husband, Tim, Madison, SD, Edie VanVelzen Hopkins and her husband, Duane, Richfield, MN; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Olson and her husband, Bruce, Sioux Falls, SD, A.J. Silseth and her husband, Don, Grant, MI; three sisters, Jennie Getting and her husband, Art, Sioux Falls, Alberta Hubbling and her husband, John, Laverne, MN, Ann Feikema, Laverne, MN; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ferne, in 1984; a son, Michael, in infancy; his parents; a brother, Cornelius; and his twin sister, Jennie, in infancy.
Relatives and friends are invited to remain at First Christian Reformed Church for lunch and fellowship with the family following their return from Hills of Rest Memorial Park.

John M. “Jack” Ulin, son of Otto and Elizabeth (Wrenn) Ulin, was born February 4, 1920 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up and received his education there.
Jack was united in marriage with Luella A. Flom on May 26, 1940 in Willmar, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Jack was employed at John Morrell and Company for 42 years before retiring.
Jack was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was an avid gardener. He loved and cared for all animals.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Luella; his children, Thomas Ulin and his wife, Patricia, Sioux Falls, SD, Mary Jo Everhart and her husband, Neil, Moville, IA, Betty Klemme and her husband, Darwyn, Sioux City, IA, Nancy Jensen and her husband, Cameron, Tea, SD; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, William Ulin and his wife, Agnes, Northridge, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wayne F. McHone, son of James F. and Josephine (Randolph) McHone, was born March 11, 1912, in Burdett, SD. He grew up in Garretson, SD. At age 12, Wayne moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD where he received his education at Washington High School.
Wayne was united in marriage with Loretta Preuss on February 22, 1932, in Sioux Falls. He worked for the Council Oak Grocery Store in Sioux Falls for 15 years. Wayne then worked at John Morrell and Company for three years before entering the U.S. Army in 1943. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Wayne returned to Sioux Falls where he owned and operated McHone Garbage Service. He later worked for Hills of Rest Memorial Park as the head groundskeeper, while owning the Spur Tavern in Valley Springs, SD. Wayne then worked at Dow-Rummel Village as a maintenance man and at Sunshine Foods until retiring in 1998 at the age of 85.
Wayne was united in marriage with Phyllis Cummings on December 20, 1980, in Mitchell, SD. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling, but his passion in life was horses.

Joe D. Marbus, son of John D. and Lena (Uithoven) Marbus, was born January 11, 1922, on a farm near Valley Springs, SD. He attended country school there.
Joe was united in marriage with Gertrude Pap on March 4, 1943 in Valley Springs. They farmed in the area for five years before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1950. He was employed as a truck driver for Gamble Robertson until 1951. Joe was then employed at John Morrell and Company until retiring in 1982. In 1960, the couple moved to Brandon, SD where they became members of Brandon Lutheran Church. Joe was also a member of the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department. He was an extremely social person who enjoyed camping and loved spending time with family and friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Gertrude Marbus, Brandon, SD; a son, John R. Marbus and his wife, Sharon, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Judy Kendall and her husband Bill, Spicer, MN; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Illa L. Ausen, daughter of Ludwig and Julia (Olson) Ausen, was born November 4, 1911 in Jasper, MN. She grew up there and attended country school. After attending high school in Jasper, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD.
Illa was united in marriage with Allan Romslo in Jasper on June 6, 1933. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Illa was employed in sales at Fashion City, G & G Fashions and for ten years at Edwards Dress Shop.
Illa was a member of East Side Lutheran Church, where she was active in Circle.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Connie Berg and her husband, Vern, Sioux Falls, SD; two nieces, Jerilyn Weber and family, Minneapolis, MN, Lynn Schrick and family, Sioux Falls, SD; two nephews, Rodney Knutson and family, Elk Point, SD, Roger Knutson and family, Canton, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan, on April 13, 1984; her parents; and two sisters, Eva Knutson and Norma Reichert.
