Frieda (Batterman) Struck, 88
May 28, 1923 - January 10, 2012
Funeral services for Frieda Viola Struck were held Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston.
Burial was in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Delmont, with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston, in charge of arrangements.
Frieda Viola Struck was born May 28, 1923, to Harm and Caroline (Drefs) Batterman. She grew up on the family farm and attended Douglas Public country school through the eighth grade.
She was united in marriage to Roy Struck Nov. 26, 1944, in Omaha, Neb. While Roy served in the armed forces there, she worked at a drug store in Omaha. After his discharge, they moved to a farm near Delmont. They farmed there for many years. In the early years, she worked for the Horst Cafe and also the Delmont Bowling Alley. She was an assistant cook at Delmont Public School for many years until her retirement.
After her retirement, she lived in Delmont for a few years and then moved to Parkston where she resided for 15 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church while in Delmont and Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston.
She died Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. She attained the age of 88 years.
She is survived by three children, Marvin Struck, Mitchell, Connie (Harley) Wubben, Salem, and Gail (Roger) Mehlhaff, Tripp; eight grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Louwagie, Luverne, Minn., Beth (Chris) Martinez, Ft.Collins, Colo., Mike Struck, Denver, Colo., Kelly (Erik) Nelson, Sioux Falls, Jennifer Wubben, Spearfish, Kimberly (Chris) Boettcher, Sioux Falls, Corey Mehlhaff, Sioux Falls, and Jill (Mike) Nuebel, Parkston; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Minnie (Nathan) Vilhauer, Parkston; and a brother, Norman (Violet) Batterman, Parkston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and nine siblings, Hattie Schrank, Helen Frey, Albert Batterman, William Batterman, Martha Struck, Helmuth Batterman, Erna Guthmiller and Albert and Martha Batterman in infancy.

Lavalle (Gau) Weber, 77
July 17, 1934 - Jnauary 13, 2012
Funeral services for Lavalle M. Weber were held Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Parkston.
Burial was in the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Dimock.
Lavalle was born July 17, 1934, to Henry and Alvinia (Dvorak) Gau at Armour. They then moved to a farm west of Ethan, where she spent her childhood and attended country schools. She attended Ethan High School and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1952.
On Sept. 30, 1952, she married Patrick Weber. After a short stay in Mitchell, they moved to Dimock where she spent the rest of her life. She worked as a bookkeeper for Weber Construction for 35 years. She also managed two apartment buildings. She was active in church, as a member of the altar society and taught religion for seven years.
She died at her home Friday, Jan. 13. She attained the age of 77 years.
She is survived by her husband Pat Weber, Dimock; and five children, Gary (Cathy) Weber, Dimock, Linda (Ed) Lynch, Luverne, Minn., Jan (Tom) McCoy, Sioux Falls, Deb (Scott) Flanders, Eden Prairie, Minn., and Ron Weber (Kim Stoakes), Canton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerome Gau, Rapid City, and Gene (Darlene) Gau, Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister, Delores (Leo) Sibson, Mitchell.
She is preceded in death by her parents.

Jason Sudbeck, 33
August 31, 1978 - February 25, 2012
Funeral Mass for Jason Sudbeck was held Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock.
Jason was born Aug. 31, 1978, to Dan and Pat (Mechtenberg) Sudbeck of Dimock. He grew up in Dimock and attended school in the Parkston School District. He graduated as valedictorian from the Class of 1997 at Parkston High. After high school, he was accepted at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, where he was a member of the PIKE fraternity. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology and pursued his master’s degree in those fields.
He was a member of the church choir and a member of the Alumni All-State Choir. In 2010, he was invited to perform with the group at the Washington Pavillion in Sioux Falls.
He spent his career in the field of chemistry. He was a research assistant and teaching assistant at USD. He briefly was an Adjunct Instructor at DWU. The past five years he held positions with NanoScale and Cardinal Health PET Manufacturing. He recently worked with Steri Cycle out of Fargo, N.D.
He unexpectedly died Feb. 25, 2012, in his home of health problems. He attained the age of 33 years.
He is survived by his parents, Dan and Pat Sudbeck, Dimock; sister, Dawn (Jon) Reuvers, Vermillion; brothers, Jeff (Tabitha), Casper, Wyo., and Matt (Chelsey), Gillette, Wyo.; grandparents, Ruth Sudbeck and John and Joyce Mechtenberg, all of Parkston; nieces and nephews, Kade, Reid, Taylor and Brooke.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Norbert Sudbeck; and two uncles, Rick Mechtenberg and Rich Reinhardt.

Bernice (Weber) Walton, 86
April 21, 1925 - February 26, 2012
Funeral Mass for Bernice Mary Walton was held Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston was in charge of arrangements.
Bernice was born April 21, 1925, to Fred and Catherine (Bowar) Weber at Dimock. She attended SS Peter and Paul Parochial School in Dimock and graduated from Parkston High School in 1943. She worked at Kreske Drug and Simpson Hatchery.
She was united in marriage to Albert Walton Feb. 17, 1947, in Mitchell.
She died Sunday, Feb. 26, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. She attained the age of 86 years.
She is survived by her eight children, Donna (Jim) Hauser, Dimock, Cheryl (Joe) Thuringer, Parkston, Pamela (Tom) Muntefering, Dimock, Kathy Bailey and special friend, Gary Barcus, Beresford, Lee (Lola) Walton, Rapid City, Gary Walton, Mitchell, Nadine (John) Ehrisman, Parkston, and Barb (Bob) Weber, Mitchell; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Weepie, Mitchell; and a brother, Luverne (Virginia) Weber, Dimock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; grandchild, Mary; three brothers, Arnold, Elmer and Eugene Weber; sister, Alvina Kummer; son-in-law, Joe Bailey; three sisters-in-law, Devona Weber, Viola Weber and Lorraine Weber; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Weepie and Victor Kummer.

Norman Beiswanger, 83
January 9, 1929 - February 29, 2012
Funeral services for Norman Beiswanger were held Monday, March 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, Parkston, with burial following in Parkston Protestant Cemetery.Arrangements were by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston.
Norman Albert Beiswanger was born Jan. 9, 1929, on a farm near Parkston to Clarence and Justina (Wentzel) Beiswanger. He attended a country grade school and graduated from Parkston High School in 1947. He married Anita Gerlach June 8, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Together they lived and farmed near Parkston.
They were members of Salem Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and as an usher for many years. He served on many boards-Susquehanna Township, Parkston Coop, Parkston Creamery and Hutchinson County Committee. He worked for the Hutchinson County ASCS office, checking grain bins for 20 years.
He retired from farming in 1991, but remained living on the farm until 2007 when they moved to Parkston.
Norman died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston at the age of 83.
Survivors include four daughters, Faye (Steve) Doolittle, Lincoln, Neb., Audrey (Steve) Wegehaupt, Omaha, Neb., Cindy (Terry) Cosand, Sioux Falls, Denise Beiswanger, Sioux Falls,; ten grandchildren, Cory Doolittle and fiancee Emily DeCamp, Kendra (Dustin) Garrels, Jill (Joshua) Austin, Sarah (Kyle) Miller, Matthew and Kimberly Wegehaupt, Kyle (Brooke) Cosand, Brett, Drew, and Kjerstin Cosand; four great-grandchildren, Kade Miller, Cody and Kaylee Austin, Delaney Wegehaupt; one sister Lorraine Koster, Parkston, and friend Darrold Kuiper, three sisters-in-law Donna (Irving) Dewey, Fergus Falls, MN, Irene Gerlach, Mitchell, Wilma (Leland) Triebwasser, Dell Rapids; one brother-in-law, Vernon (Charlene) Gerlach, Mitchell; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita, May 26, 2011; his parents; a twin brother, Raymond; one sister-in-law, Esther Hohn; three brothers-in-law, Alfred J. Hohn, Everett Reimnitz and Herbert Koster.

Sandra (Guthmiller) Reiner, 69
October 25, 1942 - April 2, 2012
Funeral services for Sandra Reiner were held Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp, with the Rev. Greg Way officiating. Music was furnished by David and Shelly Finck, and Shelly Finck, organist.
Interment was in the church cemetery. Goglin Funeral, Tripp, were in charge of arrangements. Active and honorary casketbearers were her 13 nieces and nephews: Marc Reiner, Matthew Reiner, Christopher Reiner, Jennifer (Reiner) Fosness, Ryan Reiner, John Reiner, James Reiner, Jared Reiner, Steve Reiner, Brooke Reiner, Elliot Reiner, Lauren Reiner and Ava Reiner.
Sandra Kay Reiner was born Sunday, Oct. 25, 1942, at Parkston to Alvin and Eileen (Guthmiller) Reiner. She graduated from Tripp High School in 1961. She moved to California in the early 1970s, where she worked as a civilian employee on Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc, Calif. She later moved back to South Dakota. She was a member of Friedens Reformed Church and served on Friedens Ladies’ Guild. She also volunteered at the Good Samaritan Society, Tripp, and was active in the Tripp American Legion Auxiliary.
Due to health problems, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society, Tripp, in Feb. of 2010.
She died Monday, April 2, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 69 years, five months and seven days.
She is survived by three brothers and their families, Leon (Pat) Reiner, Tripp, Maurice (Connie) Reiner, Omaha, Neb., and Michael (Annie) Reiner, Tripp; one sister-in-law, Joanne Reiner, Freeman; and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Eileen Reiner; and a brother, Glen Reiner, in 1989.

Elinor Dunn, 97
January 13, 1915 - February 20, 2012
Memorial mass for Elinor “Ellie” Dunn was held Monday, May 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.
Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston was in charge of arrangements.
Ellie was born Jan. 13, 1915, to James and Mary (Collins) Dunn in Petersville, Iowa. She moved with her family at a young age to Mitchell, where she attended school. After graduating from the eighth grade, she worked at the creamery in Mitchell before moving to Victorville, Calif., in 1935, where she worked as a waitress. For many years, she moved to Anchorage, Alaska, for the summers, where she also worked as a waitress. She moved back to Victorville for the winter months. In 1982, she moved back to South Dakota and lived in Sioux Falls, where she volunteered for many years at St. Vincent DePaul. She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral.
She died Monday, Feb. 20, at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston. She attained the age of 97 years.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce Dunn, Monticello, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Cyril Dunn; and a twin sister, Eileen Murphy.

Darlis (Hoeltzner) Schillinger, 67
January 24, 1945 - May 10, 2012
Darlis Schillinger, Salem, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Darlis Hoeltzner was born Jan. 24, 1945, to Jacob and Mabel (Schrank) Hoeltzner in Mitchell. She grew up and attended school in Mitchell. On Nov. 11, 1977 she married Nathan Schillinger, and they lived together in Salem. She worked at Care-a-Lot Daycare for nine years and also worked for the City of Salem for more than 20 years.
Her hobbies included sewing, embroidery, crochet, playing bingo, going fishing and having coffee with friends. She also loved collecting Elvis Pressley memorabilia.
She is survived by her husband, Nathan of Salem; a daughter, Cherie Stirling of Parkston; two step-daughters, Sandra (Kevin) Miller of Billings, Mont., and Patty (Kevin) Wilson of DeSmet; a step-son, Richard Schillinger of San Angelo, Tex.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ila Rae Radzitis of Fond du Lac, Wisc.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Paul Stirling, and a great-granddaughter, Kaydence Dant.

Marcia (Pierson) Mogck, 91
October 21, 1920 - May 12, 2012
Marcia Mogck died Saturday, May 12, at the Good Samaritan Center, Sioux Falls. The funeral service will be Saturday, May 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem United Church of Christ, Parkston, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Parkston Protestant Cemetery. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Mary Jane Heib, 58
January 19, 1954 - May 9, 2012
Cremation of Mary Jane Hieb has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
Black Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Sevices, Sturgis, were in charge.
Mary Jane Hieb was born Jan. 19, 1954, to Rudolph and Naomi Hieb at Parkston. She graduated from Tripp High School in the spring of 1972. She graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics in the spring of 1976. She worked for the telephone company in Scottsbluff, Neb., and worked as a manager/trainee for various restaurants and retired from Pizza Hut in 2009.
She died Wednesday, May 9, at her residence in Summerset. She attained the age of 58 years.
She is survived by a brother, Larry (Tina) Hieb, Westmoreland, Md.; two nephews, Nicholas and Jonathan Hieb; and a niece, Julianna Hieb.
She was precded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Naomi Hieb.

Marcia (Pierson) Mogck, 91
October 21, 1920 - May 12, 2012
Funeral services for Marcia Mogck were held Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston.
Burial was in the Parkston Protestant Cemetery with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston, in charge of arrangements.
Marcia T. Mogck was born Oct. 21, 1920, to Sherman and Virllie (March) Pierson in Haywarden, Iowa. She grew up in Alcester, where she attended school. After graduating from Alcester High School in 1938, she attended General Beadle Normal school in Madison, where she obtained her teacher’s certificate. For the next four years, she taught in Westfield, Iowa, and Salix, Iowa.
On June 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Kermit Mogck in Wichita Falls, Texas. She moved back to Alcester and lived with her parents while Kermit served during World War II. After his discharge, the couple moved to Parkston, where she substitute taught for the Parkston School District. She was a member of the Progressive Literary Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Ladies Aid.
She died Saturday, May 12, at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of 91 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo (Lonny) Giesen, Sioux Falls, and Cindy Mogck, Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Chad (Misty) Giesen, Chandter, Ariz., and Stephanie Giesen, Minneapolis, Minn.; and six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Paxton, Avery, Easton and Adler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kermit; two brothers, Don and Stan Pierson; and a sister, Shirley Lanning.
