John Leischner, 85
February 3, 1927 - May 18, 2012
John Leischner died Friday, May 18, at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston. Funeral service was May 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston, with burial following in Parkston Protestant Cemetery. Arrangements were by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston.
John Louis Leischner was born Feb. 3, 1927, on the family farm near Parkston to Solomon and Pauline (Melhaff) Leischner. He attended a rural grade school and started high school in Parkston, but had to stop to help his mother on the farm. He married Betty Noreen Radel Jan. 7, 1949, at Plum Creek Baptist Church near Clayton. With the exception of his time serving in Panama during the Korean Conflict, the couple lived on the family farm and raised their family. After retiring from farming in 1999, he continued to help on the farm. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed hunting, dancing, attending ball games and traveling, especially winters in Texas.
He was a member of the United Brethren Church in Milltown. While a member of this church, he was baptized in the James River at Sandy Point. He later joined the United Church of Christ in Parkston. Throughout his life, he served on various community boards and the church board, as well as being a member of the American Legion.
He married Joyce Erpenbach June 17, 2006, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. The couple made their home in Parkston.
He died Friday, May 18, 2012, at Avera Bormann Manor, Parkston, at the age of 85.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, Parkston; a son, Terry (Kristie) Leischner, Parkston; a daughter, JoAnn (Tim) Snyder, Delta, Colo.; a step-daughter, Rene (Jeff) Mahrhauser, Sioux City, Iowa.; brother-in-law, Merle (Deloris) Radel, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a longtime friend, Alan Schuler, Parkston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty, in Feb. 2004; and his sisters: Lucille Lindeman and her husband, Art; Laverna Tiede and husband, Ruben, and a nephew, Douglas Lindeman.

James Triebwasser, 62
April 13, 1950 - May 21, 2012
Funeral services for James D. Triebwasser were held Satudray, May 26, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at the Memorial Baptist Church in Parkston.
Burial was in the Parkston Protestant Cemetery with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston in charge of arrangements.
James D. Triebwasser was born April 13, 1950, to August and Hattie (Bettcher) Triebwasser in Parkston. He grew up in Parkston and attended Parkston High School. He served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1971 and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in 1976. After his time serving his country, he moved back to Parkston, where he was an over-the-road trucker.
He was united in marriage to Deb Rauscher on June 2, 1990, in Parkston.
He died on Monday, May 21, at the Royal C. Johnson VA Center in Sioux Falls. He attained the age of 62 years.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Deb, Tripp; son, Stacy Sprinkel, Mitchell; three sisters, LaVonne (Roger) Stoebner, Mitchell, Imogene (Norman) Doering, Janesville, Wis., and Connie England, Roseau, Minn.; two brothers, Roger (Lynne) Triebwasser, Mitchell, and Jerry Triebwasser, Parkston; four step-children, Stephanie (Kent) Jenkins, Omaha, Neb., Sarina White, Duluth, Minn., Stacy Treib, Woonsocket, and Martin Johnson, Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Calvin; and a sister, Joselyn.

Norbert Lehrkamp, 89
July 26, 1922 - May 25, 2012
Funeral services for Norbert Lehrkamp will be Wednesday, May 30. at 2 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, Delmont, with burial following in the church cemetery. Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston, is in charge of the arrangements.
Norbert Alton Lehrkamp was born July 26, 1922. on the family farm northeast of Delmont to Joseph and Lydia (Kusler) Lehrkamp. He was baptized, confirmed and a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont, serving as a trustee and an usher for many years. He worked alongside his father on the family farm until entering the United States Army Feb. 14, 1945, during World War II. He served overseas on Luzon Island and in Korea until being honorably discharged July 15, 1946, achieving the rank of PFC. He married Emma L. Henke June 22, 1947, at Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston.
He died Friday, May 25, at the Good Samaritan Society, Tripp, at the age of 89.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Ronald) Ensenbach, Yankton; a sister, Loraine Thaler, Wagner; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, Delmont; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Louise Henke; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Laurie (Mack) Brunette, 34
March 30, 1978 - May 24, 2012
A memorial service for Laurie A. Brunette was held June 2 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp, with the Rev. C. Brian Bucklew officiating. Music was furnished by Delilah Hahn, organist.
Goglin Funeral Home, Tripp, was in charge of arrangements.
Laurie Ann Brunette was born March 30, 1978, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, to Richard and Catherine (Mack) Brunette. She was baptized Dec. 5, 1999, at Emmaus Lutheran Church, Tripp.
She died Thursday, May 24, at her residence in Tripp at the age of 34 years, one month and 22 days.
She is survived by her fiance, Lawrence G. Polvorosa, Tripp; three sons, Richard A. Brunette, Tripp, Jacob R. Brunette, Arizona, and Kenneth J. Meisenhoelder, Tripp; her parents, Richard and Catherine Brunette, Tripp; sister, Carolyn Joyce Brunette, Tripp; two nephews, Nicholas and Matthew Brunette, Tripp; niece, Faith Brunette, Tripp; her maternal grandmothers, Udee Knisley, Tripp, and Elaine Mack, Ohio; aunt, Sherilynn Rodgers, Ohio; uncle, David K. (Ruth) Mack, West Virginia; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Paul and Shirley Brunette; her maternal grandfather, Robert A. Mack; two uncles, David Shirey and Michael Mack; and a cousin, Jacob Mack.

Barbara (Thuringer) Schelhaas, 63
August 7, 1948 - May 29, 2012
Funeral services for Barbara K. Schelhaas were held June 2 at Lakeview Christian Reformed Church, Lakeview, with the Rev. Tom VanderZeel and the Rev. Steve Boersma officiating. Curtis Olson provided the eulogy. Music was furnished by the congregation and Marlys Walkling, pianist.
Interment was in the Lakeview Community Cemetery. Honorary casketbearers were her grandchildren: Erika Veenstra, Joseph Cattin, Kyra King, Jerhett Cattin, Kendall Veenstra, Lance Cattin and Kagen King. Casketbearers were Matthew Walkling, Dean Noteboom, Jim Shelbourn, Gary Peters, Jon Logterman and Doug Holmes.
Barbara Kathryn (Thuringer) Schelhaas was born Aug. 7, 1948, to Jerauld and Adeline (Weber) Thuringer at Parkston. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and later Parkston High School. After graduation, she was employed by the ACS in Armour.
She was united in marriage to Donald Schelhaas Nov. 27, 1968, at Platte. Together, they made their home in Lakeview. She was employed at Cherry-Todd Electric for 21 years in the positions of data clerk and warehouse manager, retiring in 2008.
She was an active member of the Lakeview Christian Reformed Church, serving as bookkeeper for many years as well as a Calvinette counselor. She was active in the school and community.
She died Tuesday, May 29, after a five-year battle with cancer. She attained the age of 63 years.
She is survived by her husband, Don, Lakeview; three daughters, Camielle (Steve) Veenstra and Erika and Kendall, Corsica; Colleen (KC) King, Kyra and Kagen, Rozet, Wyo.; Celeste (John) Cattin, Joseph, Jerhett and Lance, Chadron, Neb.; mother, Adeline Thuringer, Parkston; 12 siblings, Thomas and Dodee Thuringer, Texas, Hardel and Becky Thuringer, Washington, Marlene and Paul Schmig, South Dakota, Rose Thuringer, Nebraska, Theresa and Todd Anderson, Alabama, Jerome and Penny Thuringer, South Dakota, Kevin Thuringer, South Dakota, Lou Ann and Jerry Hug, Washington, Vincent and Mary Ann Thuringer, Kansas, Virginia and Steve Jaton, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Carol and Lloyd Muckey, South Dakota, and Judy and Mark Dougherty, Arkansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by father, Jerauld Thuringer; and sibilings, Wilfred Thuringer, Dale Thuringer and Virgil Thuringer.

John Fergen, 92
March 2, 1920 - June 15, 2012
Funeral mass for John Fergen was held Tuesday, June 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Parkston, with burial following in Dakota City Cemetery near Parkston. Arrangements were by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.
John Joseph Fergen was born March 2, 1920, to Frank and Eva (Meyer) Fergen on the family farm near Parkston. He attended Sacred Heart Parochial School through the eighth grade and Parkston High School, graduating in 1939.
He was united in marriage to Frances Benson July 3, 1939, in Mitchell. John was a lifelong farmer, except for one year when he and his family moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., where he worked at a lumber mill. While farming, he also worked at the Parkston Creamery.
He died Friday, June 15, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, at the age of 92.
He is survived by three daughters: Sharon Hersham, Kathleen (Paul) Behrend and Lori (Ken) Haase, all of Parkston; a son, Gene (Patricia) Fergen, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Alfred (Joan) Fergen, Snohomish, Ore., Francis (Celine) Fergen, Parkston, and Casper (Joan) Fergen, Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; a son-in-law, Paul Hershman; and two sisters, Evelyn and Luetta.

Nathan Vilhauer, 86
July 19, 1925 - June 10, 2012
Funeral services for Nathan Christ Vilhauer were held Saturday, June 16, at Friedens Reformed Church, Tripp.
Burial was in the Parkston Protestant Cemetery, with Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, in charge of arrangements.
He was born July 19, 1925, at Tyndall to Christian and Magdalena (Bechtold) Vilhauer.
He married Minnie Marie Batterman at Tripp on July 28, 1946. They later moved to Parkston and were married 65 years. They farmed the family homestead near Parkston. He also worked at Parkston Produce for 35 years and was a truck driver for AMPI out of Freeman, until retiring in 1991.
He died Sunday, June 10, at Avera St. Benedict Health Center, Parkston. He attained the age of 86 years.
He is survived by three sons, David (Carol) Vilhauer, Mitchell, Duane Vilhauer, Parkston, Dean (Candi) Vilhauer, Sturgis; six grandchildren, Michelle Vilhauer, Sioux Falls, Jennifer (Steve) Lees, Jamestown, Penn., Brandon (Kristin) Vilhauer, Mitchell, Cody (Angie) Vilhauer, Mitchell, Breanna (Grahm) McPherson, Sturgis, Tony Digges, Sioux Falls; 11 great-grandchildren, Erica, Taryn, Dawson, Hunter, Brooke, Tucker, Tanner, Kennedy, Kalista, Paxton and Kale; one great-great-granddaughter, Madisyn; sister, Viola Padgalskas, Viejo, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Marjo Vilhauer, Parkston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, May 23, 2012; grandson, Michael Vilhauer; and brother, Stanley.

Ogla (Semmler) Hayen-Heisinger, 84
July 11, 1927 - June 9, 2012
Funeral services for Olga Hayen-Heisinger were held Friday, June 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mitchell, with the Rev. Chris Boesler officiating. Music was furnished by Karen Rang, soloist, and Lynette Schreck, organist.
Burial was in the Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery, with Bittner Funeral Home, Mitchell, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Lee Arbach, Bill Hayen, Brent Hayen, Kevin Hayen, Mitchell Hayen, Wade Hayen, Jeff Nelson and Jason Weber.
Olga Hedwina Heisinger was born July 11, 1927, at Ree Heights to Jacob and Hulda (Maas) Semmler. She grew up in the Parkston area, working in the Corner Cafe.
She married Charles V. Hayen Aug. 27, 1946, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston. They moved to Canova and then to Mitchell in 1957. Charles died May 6, 1995. She then married Francis (Bud) Heisinger July 10, 1998, in Mitchell. Francis died May 31, 2010.
She worked at Brady Home, S&H Green Stamp Store, Herberger’s Department Store and Geyerman’s. She was a seamstress for many years.
She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell, active in the women of the church, holding various offices, including three years as conference chairperson. She also held several offices on the church council, taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir.
She died Saturday, June 9, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of 84 years.
She is survived by her children, Charlene (Chuck) Arbach, Las Vegas, Nev., Paul (Cheri) Hayen, Manhattan, Kan., Stuart (Myrna) Hayen, Mitchell, Peggy (Lyle) Weber, Alexandria, and Tim (Vicki) Hayen, Bemidgi, Minn.; two step-children, Glenn (Cheryl) Heisinger, Blaine, Minn., and Barbara (Dean) Semmler, Sioux Falls; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; six sisters, Irene Winter, Lucille Ketterling, Anita Hayen, Marie Melton, Vera Jensen and Loretta Nelson; one brother, Eugene Semmler; an infant brother; and an infant grandson, Chad.
