Gerald Baier, 80
August 16, 1932 - February 26, 2013
Funeral services for Gerald Albert Baier were held March 4 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Dimock, with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Music was furnished by the Immanuel Lutheran Quartet and Judy Moege, organist.
Interment was in the church cemetery, with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston in charge of arrangements. Honorary casketbearers were Mckenzie Weisz, Vanessa Rhoads, Sarah Ostlund, Ashley Schaefers and Amanda Smith. Casketbearers were Nathan Ostlund, Carl Baier, Kyle Baier, Travis Schaefers, Andrew Baier, Nick Schaefers, Matt Smith, Jesse Baier, Justin Baier, Danny Baier and Ethan Weisz.
Gerald Albert Baier was born Aug. 16, 1932, to Walter and Rose (Schumacher) Baier in Mitchell. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church at Armour. After attending school, he began farming with his dad. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was united in marriage Feb. 5, 1956, to Rosella Reimnitz at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Dimock. They farmed on a third generation family-farm near Delmont until retiring into Parkston in 2011.
He died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. He attained the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife, Rosella, Parkston; eight children, Geraldine (Jack) Long, Fort Worth, Texas, Eldon (Jane) Baiar, Dimock, Nolan (Dee) Baier, Chattanooga, Tenn., Leon (Jane) Baier, Mitchell, Lori (Mike) Weisz, Chadron, Neb., June (Doug) Schaefers, Sioux Falls, Donald (Sandra) Baier, Armour, and Patty (Rick) Gullickson, Brookings; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Karen Baier; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Lila; and siblings, Betty, Calvin and Lloyd.

Maynard Huether, 72
May 27, 1940 - February 24, 2013
Funeral services for Maynard A. Huether were held Feb. 27 at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp, with the Rev. Greg Way officiating. Music was furnished by the Clearfield Colony Women’s Choir and Shelly Finck, organist.
Interment was in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites by Jelkin-Harms American Legion Post #142 of Tripp and the South Dakota Army National Guard Military Funeral Honor Guard. Goglin Funeral Home in Tripp was in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Glenn Vogel, Dennis Huether, William Schoen-fish, Myron Holzworth, Gregg Huether and Vaughn Huether.
Maynard Andrew Huether and his twin brother, Mynard, were born Monday, May 27, 1940, on the family farm near Tripp to Ludwig and Emma (Stoebner) Huether. He grew up in Tripp and graduated from Tripp High School. He served in the United States Army from 1960-1964.
He married Darla Weiderrich Jan. 24, 1970. Later, divorced from Darla, he met Ivy Ross, who was his special friend for the final 16 years. He was a salesman, auctioneer and auction owner.
He died Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Ft. Meade Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis. He attained the age of 72 years, eight months and 27 days.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin (Carol) Huether, Rapid City, and Kelly (Michelle) Huether, Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Stacie Huether, Missoula, Mont.; six grandchildren: Matt, Myles, Kayla, Brandie, Kelly and Riley; expected twin great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin (Ardina) Huether and Roger (Karen) Huether, all of Tripp; three sisters, Bernice Schoenfish, Menno; Velda Holzwarth, Freeman, and Fran Vogel, Sioux Falls; and numerous in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Mynard Huether; and parents, Ludwig and Emma Huether.

Leona (Bietz) Beehler, 80
April 9, 1932 - March 1, 2013
Funeral services for Leona Melinda Beehler will be held Wednesday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Delmont, with burial following in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston
Leona Melinda Beehler was born April 9, 1932 to Theodore and Lydia (Winter) Bietz on the family farm near Delmont. She attended and graduated from Delmont High School. She was united in marriage to Eugene “Hans” Beehler Nov. 18, 1953 in Delmont. She worked as a teller at First State Bank in Delmont for 30 years and was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide. For 38 years, she was an active participant in the Delmont Firemen’s sausage supper. She babysat her grandchildren, spent time bowling in the Delmont Bowling League and camped with the Clay County Camping group.
She died Friday, March 1, at the Tripp Good Samaritan Society, Tripp at the age of 80.
She is survived by her son, Kevin (Susan) Beehler, Delmont; two grandchildren: Scott Beehler, Iroquois, and Amanda Beehler, Rochester, Minn.; three sisters: Viola Mach, Yankton, Ellestine Guthmiller, Meridian, Idaho.; and Norma Verzani, Rapid City; a sister-in-law, Donna Mick, Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hans; mother-in-law, Elizabeth; a sister, Hilda Lippert; and numerous brothers-in-law.

Gena Ferwerda, 87
January 2, 1926 - February 15, 2013
Memorial services for Gena Steve Ferwerda were held March 2 at the Crosby Jaeger Funeral Home in Springfield.
Gene was born Jan. 2, 1926, in rural Springfield to Martin and Sarah (Oliver) Ferwerda. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1943. After graduation, he entered the military and served in the United States Navy from 1943-1947. After discharge from the Navy, he attended Southern State Teachers College and received his bachelor of science in education. He later received his master’s degree in history from the University of Wyoming.
On Aug. 15, 1948, he married Dorothy Delores Balvin in Springfield. He taught high school and coached for many years at Tripp, Highmore and Parkston. He later moved to Spencer, Iowa, and made his profession in the Crop Insurance Industry before retiring.
He later moved to New Jersey and entered Assisted Living in Hammonton, N.J., in May 2008. He resided there until his death.
He died Friday, Feb. 15, at the Heritage Assisted Living Facility in Hammonton. He attained the age of 87 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Annette, Cocoa Beach, Fla., Amy, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Julie, Medford, N.J.; three brothers, Layton (Helen), Yankton, Alvin (Avis), Winner, and Laddie (Mary), Centerville; two sisters, Amy (Gale) Scholl, Scotland, and Carol (Jim) Lukkes, Yankton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, of 58 years; his parents; four brothers, Arnold, Dale, Noel and Merle; and two sisters-in-law, Luetta Ferwerda and Henrietta Ferwerda.

Luvern Weber, 83
January 26, 1930 - February 20, 2013
Funeral services for Luvern “Butz” Weber were held Feb. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell.
Burial was in the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Dimock, with Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell in charge of arrangements.
Luvern John Weber was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Hutchinson County to Fred and Catherine (Bowar) Weber. He grew up on the farm and attended Catholic school through the eighth grade in Dimock. In 1944, he moved with his family to the Mathias Bowar farm in Davison County and farmed with his dad until 1953. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany until 1955. He then returned to Dimock and continued farming in Davison County.
On June 1, 1957, he married Virginia Baysinger in Woonwocket. In 1965, they moved to a farm in Davison County. From 1967 until 1975, he and his brother, Eugene, owned and operated a John Deere Implement dealership in Dimock. In 1982, he retired from dairy faming and moved to Dimock where he resided until his death.
He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Parish in Dimock until 2005, and then became a member of Holy Family Parish in Mitchell. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and served on the Dimock Cheese Factory Board.
He died Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. He attained the age of 83 years.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; three sons, Mark (Carolee) Weber, Sioux Falls, Brad (Paula) Weber, Parkston, and Paul (Jodi) Weber, Woonsocket; one daughter, Jodi Boyer and special friend, Doug McManigal, Creighton, Neb.; son-in-law, Lon Krueger, Spearfish; 13 grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Weepie, Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Krueger in 2005; his brothers, Arnold, Elmer and Eugene; two sisters, Alvina Kummer and Bernice Walton; and his parents.

Jean (Kruckenberg) Harnisch, 78
May 8, 1934 - February 28, 2013
Funeral services for Jean Violet Harnisch will be Thursday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Clayton. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston.
Jean Violet Harnisch was born May 8, 1934 to Arthur and Vivian (Umbdenstock) Kruckenberg in Mundelein, Ill. She attended and graduated from Harvard High School in Harvard in 1952. She was united in marriage to Eugene Harnisch June 2, 1956 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harvard. After their marriage, they farmed near Parkston and subsequently began spending winters in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., in 1990. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and LWML and enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing and reading.
She died Thursday, Feb. 28, at her winter home in Lake Havasu City at the age of 78.
She is survived by her children, Kevin (Joyce) Harnisch, Minneapolis, Minn.; Keith (Carol) Harnisch, Neb.; Kris (Pat) Weber, Denison, Iowa.; Kent (Marlys) Harnisch, Sioux Falls; and Karla (Jim) Ripp, Dimock; seven siblings: George (Janette) Kruckenberg, Harvard; James Kruckenberg, Harvard; Ken (Sandy) Kruckenberg, Harvard; Vic (Sandra) Kruckenberg, Sunnyvale, Calif.; Art (Meg) Kruckenberg, Harvard; Chet Kruckenberg, Capron, Ill.; and Eileen (Ed) Anderson, Harvard; 13 grandchildren: Heather, Tyler, Hunter, Jason, Justin, Sydney, Nick, Kelsey, Kendra, Andrew, Ryan, Kellie and Marissa; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eugene.

Lois (Schmoll) Sedlacek, 68
August 8, 1944 - February 21, 2013
Mass of Christian Burial for Lois L. Sedlacek of Tyndall was held Feb. 25 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Tyndall, with the Rev. Joe Forcelle as celebrant. Organist was Marcene Kniffen. Piano soloist was her grandson, Wesley Brandt. Interment followed in St. George Catholic Cemetery in Scotland. Casketbearers were Joseph Kuchta, Ed Sedlacek, George Sedlacek, Alvin Sternhagen, Doug Sternhagen and Steve Sternhagen.
Lois LaNere Sedlacek was born Tuesday, Aug. 8, 1944, at Yankton to Benjamin and Vera (Fischer) Schmoll. In 1963, she graduated from the Mitchell Area Vocational Technical School of Practical Nursing. She was united in marriage to John Sedlacek Dec. 29, 1966, in Scotland. Always a hard worker, she excelled at being a nurse, farm wife and homemaker. She worked for 37 years at St. Michael’s Hospital in Tyndall.
She and John enjoyed traveling together to attend the Iowa Beef Expo, Black Hills Stock Show, the Nebraska Cattleman’s Classic and the livestock show at the South Dakota State Fair. She was an active supporter of the local 4-H programs. She also worked in her garden and enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s ballgames, concerts, dance recitals, school functions and activities.
She died Thursday, Feb. 21, at Avera St. Michael’s Hospital, surrounded by her family, following a one-and-a-half year battle with ovarian cancer. She attained the age of 68 years, six months and 13 days.
She is survived by her husband, John, Tyndall; daughter Mary (Sid) Brandt, Tabor; three sons: Jeff Sedlacek, Tripp, Mark Sedlacek, Scotland, and Jared Sedlacek of Tripp; two grandchildren: Wesley Brandt and Ava Brandt; a sister, Myra (Jim) Weber, Tripp; and mother-in-law Helen Sedlacek, Scotland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Vera Schmoll.

Elizabeth (Schmidt) Meyer, 85
February 2, 1928 - March 23, 2013
Funeral service for Elizabeth Christine Meyer was held March 27 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
Interment was in the Friedens Reformed Church Cemetery, with George Boom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth Christine Meyer was born Feb. 2, 1928, to Peter and Bertha (Bitterman) Schmidt. She was nominated her senior year as homecoming royalty as a princess, graduating from high school in 1946.
She left Tripp to live in California with her sister, Dorothy, where she worked for a short time in a WWII factory. She returned to the Midwest and had a variety of jobs. She worked in a bakery, meat locker and hardware store. She worked and traveled with a Midwest carnival with her sister, Thelma.
She married Art Meyer in 1949. They farmed near Tripp.
She worked at the Good Samaritan Society for over 20 years. When her mother became ill, she cared for her in her home. She later took a job working in the casino in Wagner.
She retired in 2002. She moved to Sioux Falls and lived with her daughter, JoAnn, and son-in-law, Kevin.
She was a resident at Luther Manor in Sioux Falls for the last three months.
She died Saturday, March 23, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of 85 years.
She is survived by her four daughters, Ginny (Mike Thew) Schnabel, Lincoln, Neb., Susan (Richard) Daly, White Bear Lake, Minn., Barbara Meyer, Sioux Falls, and JoAnn (Kevin) Duffy, Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, James (Lori) Schmidt, Scotland; and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Bertha Schmidt; son-in-law, Allen Schnabel; three brothers, Robert, Ted and Don; and three sisters, Ruth Dorothy and Thelma.

Marcella (Kirsch) Wolf, 96
November 6, 1916 - March 30, 2013
Funeral service for Marcella Wolf were held April 2 at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Howard, with burial in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, White Lake. Bittner Funeral Home, Mitchell, was in charge of the arrangements.
Marcella Wolf was born Nov. 6, 1916, on a farm north of White Lake to Matt and Lena (Mueller) Kirsch. She attended school at St. Peter’s Catholic School and graduated from White Lake High School. She attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell, and then began teaching in rural country schools. On May 20, 1941, she married Alvin Wolf. They lived on a farm south of White Lake. She went back to school so that she could receive her State teacher’s certificate. In 1964, she retired from teaching, and a few years later, they moved to Parkston. In 1996, she moved to Howard to live with her daughter and family. She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church.
She died Saturday, March 30, at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard.
She is survived by her daughter, Rose (Larry) Kieffer, Howard; daughter-in-law, Lois Wolf, Parkston; 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grand-children, 11 great-great-grand-children, five step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 1981, two children in infancy, Louise and Donald, two sons: Francis and Kenneth, three sisters: Cecelia Speelman, Marie Schmitt and Kathryn Markley, one grandson and two great-granddaughters.

Wilbert C. Tiede, 87
August 13, 1925 - March 24, 2013
Funeral service for Wilbert “Will” C. Tiede will be Wednesday, April 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, Parkston, with burial at Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell. Koehn Bros. Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangement.
Wilbert Tiede was born Aug. 13, 1925, to John and Antonia (Winter) Tiede on the family farm in Parkston. On June 30, 1962, he married Donna Stern at Salem Lutheran Church, Parkston. He enjoyed working, watching football and his family and friends.
He died March 24 in Littleton, Colo., at the age of 87.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of fifty years; his son, Thomas (Rebecca) Tiede and granddaughter, Ella Grace, Denver, Colo.; brothers Clarence (Marcelline) Tiede, Parkston, and LeRoy (Donna) Tiede, Surprise, Ariz.; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Wynetta Weisser, Parkston, and Altea Dewald, Mitchell.
