Vernon E. Hauck, 75
October 18, 1939 - December 5, 2014
Funeral services for Vernon E. Hauck were held Dec. 9 at the Presbyterian Church in Tyndall. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, Tripp. Goglin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Vernon Hauck was born Wednesday, Oct. 18, 1939, to Emanuel and Esther (Michaelssohn) Hauck on the family farm northwest of Tyndall. He was baptized in the Emanuel Reformed Church in rural Tripp and confirmed in the Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp. He attended Hoff School in rural Tyndall through the eighth grade. On Nov. 6, 1960, he was united in marriage to Pauline M. Winckler at the First Congregational Church in Scotland. Together they resided on a farm northwest of Tyndall. He was a member of the Tyndall Presbyterian Church.
He died Friday, Dec. 5, at Doherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls at the age of 75 years, one month and 17 days.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; daughter Sandra (Kevin) Vanden Berge, Mitchell; sons Allen Hauck, Scotland, Michael Hauck and special friend Kristi Burgi, Tyndall, and Darrin (Lisa) Hauck, Tyndall; grandchildren: Laura (Rick) Estrada, Mitchell, Tyler Vanden Berge, Mitchell, Amanda Hauck, Tyndall, and Bryce Hauck, Tyndall; great-grandchildren: Myles, Megyn and Mykayla Estrada, Mitchell; and sister Ramona (Robert) Chambers, Tyndall.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Melvin Eugene Mudder, 58
December 23, 1935 - November 29, 2014
A memorial service for Melvin Mudder will be held Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. at Salem Reformed Church in Menno.
Inurnment will take place at the First Baptist Church Cemetery, rural Avon, with Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon in charge of arrangements.
Melvin Eugene Mudder was born Dec. 23, 1955, to Marvin and Charlotte (Odens) Mudder in Tyndall. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Avon.
He attended country school at James School #55 through the eighth grade and Avon High School, graduating in 1974. He joined the Army National Guard in 1973 and served as a heavy equipment operator and cook for 29 years, retiring in 2003. He worked various construction, heavy equipment, and farm jobs for area farmers. He worked at Kolberg’s in Yankton and the State Highway Department in Tyndall. He spent the rest of his career as a prison guard at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield.
He married Saundra Shelman Sept. 13, 1980, at the First Baptist Church in Avon. They lived in Tabor for four years before moving to Tyndall.
On June 1, 2009, Menno-Olivet Care Center became his home after he was diagnosed with Pick’s Disease, a neurodegenerative disease.
He was a member of the Salem Reformed Church in Menno.
He died Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Menno-Olivet Care Center. He attained the age of 58 years.
He is survived by his two daughters, Dr. Alaina (Matt) Blake, Des Moines, Iowa, and Abbey Mudder, Canton; their mother, Saundra Mudder, Tyndall; his 12 siblings, Janice (Terry) Smidt, Huron, George (Denise) Mudder, Tyndall, Joyce (Jay) Borah, Huron, Dale (Annette) Mudder, Yankton, Jane (Gary) Gramkow, Olivet, Julie (Keith) Rothschadl, Scotland, Alan (Lori) Mudder, Avon, Larry (Brenda) Mudder, Avon, Joan (Greg) Doty, Wagner, David (Mary) Mudder, Garretson, Don (Marcia) Mudder, Avon, and Jacque (Jeff) Liebl, Menno; former in-laws, Pam and LeWayne Lukkes, Tyndall, and Steve and Carolyn Peters, Delmont; special friends Wanda Pond and Trisha Halsall, Menno; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin (1993) and Charlotte (2009) Mudder; his grandparents, George and Elsie Mudder and Charlie and Jennie Odens; his former in-laws, Leonard and Betty Shelman; nephew, Ross Michael Doty; uncles; Leroy Jochims, Roger Mudder, Phillip G. Odens, Dewey Olsen, Arnold Johnson and Fritz Hale; and aunts, Shirley Pudwill, Velda Olsen, Carol Ferwerda and Miriam Johnson.

Garfield M. Stelzer, 90
November 16, 1924 - December 24, 2014
Funeral service for Garfield M. Stelzer was held Dec. 30 at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston, with burial following in Parkston Protestant Cemetery in Parkston. Koehn Bros. Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Garfield M. Stelzer was born Nov. 16, 1924, at his home near Parkston to John and Helen (Tiede) Stelzer. He attended country school near Parkston and graduated from Parkston High School. He married Betty Schaeffer Oct. 17, 1948. Together, they farmed two miles south of Parkston for 50 years. In 1989, they sold the farm but continued living there until moving into Parkston in 1998. Betty died Dec. 18, 2007.
He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston and Salem United Church of Christ Men’s Choir.
He died Friday, Dec. 26, at his home in Parkston at the age of 90.
He is survived by two daughters: Linda (Chris) Lewis, Canistota, and Judy Heil, Parkston; two grandchildren: Kelly (Jennifer) Lofswold, Northville, and Stacy (David) Zitterich, Sioux Falls; and two great-grandchildren: Jocelyn and Breann Zitterich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, brother, Irving Stelzer, two sisters, Lorinda Jerke and Leona Mayer, and son-in-law, Mike Heil in 1998.

Shirley (Kirschenman) Schnabel, 67
May 6, 1947 - December 25, 2014
Funeral services for Shirley Schnabel were held Dec. 29 at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp with the Rev. Greg Way officiating. Burial was in the Friedens Reformed Cemetery, Tripp. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Goglin Funeral Home, Tripp.
Shirley Ann Schnabel was born Tuesday, May 6, 1947, to Wilmer and Talitha (Schempp) Kirschenman in Scotland. She graduated from Menno High School. She married Dennis Schnabel May 8, 1966.
Her career included 30 years at Northwestern Public Service and 14 years for the Hutchinson County Highway Department, as well as selling Tupperware. She was an active member of the Friedens Reformed Consistory.
She died Thursday, Dec. 25 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 67 years, seven months and 19 days.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dennis, Tripp; son Travis (Shanna) Schnabel, Savage, Minn.; daughter Staci (Travis) Krant, Bellevue, Wash.; grandchildren Brooklyn and Madison Schnabel; brother Ronald (Phyllis) Kirschenman, Freeman; and many other family members including a niece, nephews, an uncle, many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Talitha Kirschenman.

Marion (Stafford) Judy, 94
March 21, 1920 - December 22, 2014
Funeral service for Marion Ethel Judy was held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with Pastor Dick Poppen officaiting. Music was provided by the congregation, Curt Talley, soloist, and Vicky Wahl, organist.
Burial was in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian with Bittner Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Julie Buss, Christie Case, Jeremy Hinker, Justin Hinker, Tiffany Judy, Angie Maher, Dan Quam, Jeff Quam, Ryan Schellpfeffer, Shane Schellpfeffer and Jason Stillwell.
Marion Ethel Stafford was born March 21, 1920, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to Henry Isaiah and Mary Caroline Stafford. She lived in Canada with her three sisters until their mother’s death in 1926. After her mother’s death, she and two of her sisters moved to Carpenter, S.D., to live with her Aunt Gussie and Uncle Jim St. John. She graduated from Willow Lake High School. She moved to Sioux Falls attending Sioux Falls College and later South Dakota State University in Brookings where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.
She married Raymond Judy on July 20, 1941. They made their first home in Chester. Raymond was sent overseas to serve in the military and she returned to SDSU to complete her college degree. After graduation, she taught high school for one year in Willow Lake and then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she was employed by the Challenge Creamery.
After the war ended, the couple returned to Raymond’s home in Forestburg. She stayed home to raise the children.
She was active in her church, First Presbyterian in Forestburg, and later Endeavor Presbyterian in Fedora. She also maintained a National Weather Service Station on the farm in Forestburg.
She visited Normandy, France, where her husband participated in the D-Day invasion. In 2008, she traveled to her childhood home on Nootka Island, British Columbia.
She died Monday, Dec. 22, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. She attained the age of 94 years.
She is survived by her children, Ann (Don) Schell-pfeffer, Sioux Falls, Nancy (Leonard) Hinker, Fedora, Mark (Deb) Judy, Blue Grass, Iowa, and Lois (Dick) Quam, Huron; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margaret Stevenson, Pender Island, British Columbia, and Mary Tidemann, Wichita, Kan.; and 12 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her infant daughter, Janice Kay; her sister, Ruth Lewno; three brothers-in-law; and a nephew.

Donald Herrboldt, 85
March 2, 1929 - December 16, 2014
Funeral services for Donald Herrboldt were held Dec. 20 at Salem Reformed Church, Menno, with the Rev. Michael Hecht officiating.
Burial was in the Menno Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Rames-Bender American Legion Post #142 and the South Dakota Army National Guard Honor Guard. Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, was in charge of arrangements.
Donald Herrboldt was born March 2, 1929, to Henry and Lydia (Knodel) Herrboldt in rural Menno. He was baptized April 26, 1929, by the Rev. Bodeuman and confirmed June 20, 1943, by the Rev. Kaempchen. He was a member of the Salem Reformed Church all his life and served as an elder for six years. He also served on the lumber yard and school boards. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War.
He was in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, stationed at the air base in England.
He married Frances Tiede Sept. 24, 1953, in Parkston by the Rev. Koehler. He took over the family farm in 1959 and purchased the farm in 1964. They moved to a home in Menno in January of 1993 and moved to the Salem Mennonite Home in September 2014.
He died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Freeman Community Hospital. He attained the age of 85 years.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of 61 years; children, Cynthia (Gary) Loerts, Worthington, Minn., and their children, Stacy Walters and Hope Loerts; Debra (Jim) Christensen, Freeman, and their children, Michelle (Brian) Lueders, Sheila (Matt) Rigo and Tammy (Josh) Hofer; Brenda (Barry) Mettler, Menno, and their children, Andy Kanengieter and Aaron Kanengieter; Mary (James) Mettler, Menno, and their children, Reid Johnson and Macon Oplinger; and Brian (Cindy) Herrboldt, Menno, and their children, Austin (Michelle), Abby and Ajay; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Kost and Cleva (Norb) Wenzel; sister-in-law, Gladys Friederich; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gerty Aman; brother, Willard Herrboldt; sister-in-law, Elsie Herrboldt; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Hogrefe, Edmund Kost, Oliver Aman, and Marvin Friederich; grandsons, Derrick Loerts and Adam Herrboldt; and son-in-law, Craig Walters.

Elaine Marie (Koster) Roth, 55
April 5, 1959 - February 3, 2015
Funeral Mass for Elaine Marie Roth was held Feb. 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.
Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston was in charge of arrangements.
Elaine Marie Roth was born April 5, 1959, to Herbert and Marie (Schoenfelder) Koster in Parkston. She attended school in Parkston, where she had perfect attendance every year and graduated from Parkston High School in 1977. She attended Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell for Business and Secretarial.
She was united in marriage to Michael C. Roth Sept. 22, 1979, in Parkston. The couple moved to a farm southwest of Parkston where they haved lived and farmed since. She worked at the Good Samaritan Society, Avera St. Benedict Assisted Living in Parkston and part-time at Casey’s where she made pizzas.
She died Tuesday, Feb. 3, at her home near Parkston after a year-long battle with cancer. She attained the age of 55 years.
She is survived by her husband, Michael, Parkston; four children, Melissa (Daniel Hahn) Roth, Spokane, Wash., Angela (Andrew) Schaefers, Madison, Duane (Kelsey) Roth, Parkston, and Scott (Tessa) Roth, Parkston; three grandchildren: Bently and Charles Roth and Brianna Schaefers; step-mother, Lorraine Koster, Parkston, mother and father-in-law, Norbert and Alvina Roth; brother, Francis (Georgiann) Koster, Tyndall; sister, LaVonne (Pete) Griffin, North Sioux City; three sisters-in-law, Donna (Dave) Henshell, Yankton, Karen Huber, Mission Hill, and Linda (Joseph) Vermeulen, Letcher; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Mary Jo; two infant sisters-in-law, Lois and Lola; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Huber.

Celesta Bertha (Bowar) Roth, 91
July 23, 1923 - January 30, 2015
Funeral services for Celesta Roth were held Feb. 4 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock.
Celesta Bertha (Bowar) Roth, daughter of Walter and Frances (Wermers) Bowar, was born July 23, 1923, in Ethan. A graduate of Ethan High School, she received her teaching certificate from Notre Dame College in Mitchell. Following graduation, she worked as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse.
She married Raymond Roth June 26, 1945, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ethan.
She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she served as religious education teacher for 26 years, Eucharistic minister, a member of Altar Society and Catholic Daughters, and a substitute teacher for the SS Peter and Paul School.
She died Friday, Jan. 30, at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of 91 years.
She is survived by her five children, Jane Vogt, Sioux Falls, Stan (Nancy) Roth, Grand Rapids, Minn., Mary (Glenn) Kelly, Sioux Falls, Bill (Linda) Roth, Salem, Ray (Martha) Roth, St. Cloud, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy McGinnis and Delores Gebhart; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents; her granddaughter, Andrea (Roth) Boeve; two sisters, Florentine Schlimgen and Stella Pelton; three brothers-in-law, Leonard Schlimgen, Charles Pelton, and Francis Gebhart; one sister-in-law, Doris Bowar; one brother, Joe Bowar; and three nephews.

Lydia (Roduner) Isaak, 104
June 8, 1910 - January 26, 2015
Funeral services for Lydia Isaak was held Jan. 30 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, with the Rev. Boyd Blumer officiating. Music was furnished by Natalie Misiaszek, soloist, and Allen Remily, organist.
Interment was in the American Legion Cemetery, Mitchell, with Bittner Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Curt Christensen, Jason Christensen, TJ Christensen, Brian Piearson and Jeff Rosburg.
Lydia Isaak was born June 8, 1910, on a farm near Clayton to Christian and Rosina (Mehlhaf) Roduner.
She married Eltor Isaak June 9, 1933, at Parkston. They moved to Tripp. After WWII, they moved to Mitchell. She was a seamstress and worked in sales and alterations at Barons and the Toggery clothing stores. For many years she was the “sample lady” at Sunshine Grocery Store.
For the past 10 years, she was a resident of Firesteel Healthcare Center. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Women of the Moose, Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She died Monday, Jan. 26, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. She attained the age of 104 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Piearson, Mitchell, and Mary Ann Tubbs, Denver, Colo.; one son, Donald Isaak, Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eltor; two sons, Thomas and Jerry; two sons-in-law, Bradley Piearson and Dale Tubbs; one great-grandson, Timothy Rosburg; one great-great-grandson, Wyatt Piearson; six brothers, Emil, Albert, Reinhold, William, Ludwig, John; and three sisters, Magdalena Schmoll, Alvina Bartling and Louise Schoppert.
