Mrs. Walker (Nancy) Hurt

The funeral for Mrs. Walker (Nancy) Hurt, 58, was held Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton at 2 p.m. The Rev. Emil Eberhart officiated. Burial was at Turton Cemetery. She died of natural causes Tuesday, Jan. &, 1997 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Aberdeen.

Nancy Lee Alleman was born January 19, 1938, to George and Grace Lucille (Christopher) Alleman in Wooster, Ohio. She was raised in the Wooster area. She married Walker Hurt on July 4, 1960, in Wooster. They have lived in Turton for the last five years.

Survivors include her husband of Turton; three sons, Henry (Jody) Hurt, El Paso, Texas, George (Debbie) Hurt, Fort Payne, Ala., and Randy (Kathy) Hudgins, Red Boiling, Tenn.; two daughters, Wanda Jean (Wendell) Burgess, Fort Worth, Texas and Loretta Bragg, Turton; two brothers, Howard Alleman, Wooster, and George Alleman, Savanna, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son.

Casketbearers were Randy Hudgins, Henry Hurt, George Hurt, Mark Hensley, Preston Withrow and Robert Bragg.

Susan Faye (Johnson) Hutchins

Susan Faye (Johnson) Hutchins died Wednesday, December 2, 1998 at Hospice Metro Denver Co. after a long battle with cancer.

She was born February 1, 1961 in Aberdeen to Merton and Ella Johnson. She grew up in the Groton area and graduated from Groton High School in 1979. She graduated from South Dakota State University in December of 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech communications. She married Alan Hutchins March 31, 1984 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Groton. They moved to Denver after their marriage.

She is survived by her husband and two sons, Matthew and Christian Hutchins of Denver; her parents of Groton; and three brothers, Loren (Holly) Johnson of Groton, Neil (Charlene) Johnson of Aberdeen, and Duane Johnson of Yankton, and step-grandfather, Art Totzke, of Groton.

She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran and MOPS. She was employed at My Twin doll factory as an Internal Control Coordinator.

Memorial services were held December 7 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Denver, with Pastor Wayne E. Weissenbuehler officiating. Music was provided by the contemporary choir, Alsa (Alberts) Pedone as a soloist and Kathy Egglestoon at the organ. Those attending from here were her parents, Merton and Ella Johnson; Loren, Holly, Eric and Ryan Johnson, all of Groton; Neil, Charlene, Melissa and Darren Johnson, Aberdeen, and Duane Johnson of Yankton.

There was cremation with internment at Bethany Stepping Stones Garden.

Jean E. Ives

Memorial services for Jean Ives were held June 10 at the First Presbyterian Church of Groton with the Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. The Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton was in charge of arrangements.

She died Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at her home in Pendleton, Ore. She is formerly of the Groton area.

Jean Pratt was born June 12, 1925 at Aberdeen to Frank and Frances (Wood) Pratt. She grew up in the Putney area and attended schools at Putney and then graduated from high school at Groton. She received a teaching certificate from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen and taught in rural schools in Brown County. She married Lyle Dean Ives at Groton on April 18, 1945. The couple lived at Aberdeen; Spokane, Wash.; Omaha; Las Vegas; Great Falls, Mont., and Missoula, Mont., before moving to Pendleton. They owned and operated Jean’s Hallmark Store for 10 years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pendleton where she was a deacon, was involved with Presbyterian Women and was on the House and Grounds Committee. She was involved in the Pendleton Downtown Business Association, the Community Bargain Counter, the Research Club and the Grecian Heights Homeowners Association where she had served as a secretary.

Survivors include a son, Richard of Camano Island, Wash.; a daughter, Barbara Low of Mead, Wash.; two sisters, Marjorie (George) Cliff of Aberdeen and Virginia (Eugene) Abeln of Groton; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle in 1987, and an infant daughter, Patricia.

Marie Sternhagen was the organist, Pam Hanson was the soloist and Ben Anderson was the usher.
