John Kenneth Farmen

John Kenneth Farmen, 83, Veblen, SD, died Monday, January 25, 2010, at the Rosholt Care Center, Rosholt, SD.

Funeral services was Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD, with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Music was provided by organist Colleen Halverson and vocalist Tim Farmen.

Burial was in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Military honors were provided by the Eddie Robertson American Legion Post 76 of Veblen. Pallbearers were David Farmen, Sara Perkerewicz, Michael Perkerewicz, Matthew Farmen, Amalia Farmen, and Jacob Farmen.

Visitation was Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

John Kenneth Farmen was born March 29, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN, to John J. and Millie (Johnson) Farmen. After attending country school through the eighth grade, he helped his father farm in Enterprise Township, Roberts County. On February 24, 1945, Kenny enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Belleau Wood aircraft carrier during World War II. He was honorably discharged July 10, 1946.

On October 15, 1948, Kenny married Alpha Kleven in Aberdeen, SD. After his marriage, he owned and operated Veblen Motors. In 1959, he became the Postmaster in Veblen. During this time, he also owned and operated Ken’s Radio and TV. Kenny also was a member of the Veblen Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and served as Fire Chief.

After retirement from the Post Office in 1990, Kenny stayed busy keeping up with his grandchildren and by helping other people, whether it was fixing someone’s furnace, repairing a broken appliance or lawnmower, or helping unload groceries at Grobe’s Grocery Store in Veblen. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. Alpha passed away in 2004. In 2006, he moved to the Countryside Inn in Rosholt and later moved to the Rosholt Care Center.

Kenny was a member of the Eddie Robertson American Legion Post 76 of Veblen.

Survivors include two sons, Clayton (Janet) Farmen of Wahpeton, ND, and Dale (Julee) Farmen of Katy, TX; grandchildren and great grandchildren, David (Jamie) Farmen and daughter Katelyn of Fargo, ND, Sara (Mike) Perkerewicz and their son Parker of Statesboro, GA, Matthew Farmen of Katy, TX, Amalia Farmen of Houston, TX and Jacob Farmen of Katy; and a brother, Lyle (Carol) Farmen of Sisseton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Alpha May 22, 2004.

The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt was in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille Solberg

Funeral Service for Lucille Solberg, 90, of Sisseton, SD was held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist was Mona Greseth and soloist was Pat Schubert. Pallbearers were Virgil Lotzer, Jerry Benson, Arnie Benson, Michael Currence, Ronnie Bucklin, Joe Just, and Terry Weinkauf. Honorary Pallbear-ers were all of Lucille’s Family and Friends. Interment was in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There was visitation on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. There was visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.

Lucille Marjorie Solin was born on April 13, 1919 in Sisseton, SD to Albert and Maude (Bice) Solin. She grew up and attended country school. Lucille was united in marriage to Walter Solberg on December 3, 1939. The couple farmed in Goodwill Township until retiring in September of 1978, and moving into Sisseton. Lucille worked at the City Bakery, Landsberger Creamery and DaCotah Inc. She liked to garden, bake, cook and can. She liked square dancing, soap operas and listening to the radio. Lucille always remembered everyone’s birthdays and holidays. Lucille was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Lucille passed away on February 21, 2010 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.

Lucille is survived by five children, Beverly and husband, Gary Dickinson of Sisseton, SD, Kenneth Solberg of Sisseton, SD, Sandra Koch of Hankinson, ND, Keith and wife, Mary Solberg of Sisseton, SD, and David Solberg and Sandy Stickland also of Sisseton, SD; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Lonnie Solberg, three brothers, Clarence, Carl and Adrian Solin; and two sisters, Mary Bendickson and Gladys Schloe.

Lola Wanna

Funeral Service for Lola Jean Wanna, 53, of Aberdeen, SD was held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Hall, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Les Campbell officiating. Organist was Billy Kohl and special music by Joe and Kathy White. Pallbearers were Gary White Jr., Jeremy White, Austin Barse, Justin Barse, Jack Barse, Arnold Williams, Nicholas Wanna, Elden Wanna, and Robert Williams. Honorary Pallbearers were Rita Finley, Cheryl Anderson, Myrna Thompson, Linda Peterson, Gwen Brunmaier, Darlene Wanna, Marsha Renville, Wanda Thompson, Barbara LaCroix, Isaiah White, Tateska White-Hansen, and all Lola’s 3M Co-Workers. Interment was at St. Luke’s Episcopal Cemetery, Veblen, SD. Wake Services were held at St. Catherine’s Hall, Sisseton, SD at 7:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, February 22 and 23, 2010, and an all night wake on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

Lola was born on August 10, 1956 at Sisseton, SD to Yvonne Wanna. Lola attended school in Sisseton and was raised by her grandparents, David and Florence Wanna. Lola dedicated her entire life to raising her children and always being there for every sporting event and school function. She was a hard working, dedicated employee for several companies in Aberdeen, while she also continued her education. Lola loved to bowl, do puzzles, read, listen to country music, talk to her co-workers at 3M, and watch her shows, The Days of Our Lives and The Price is Right. She loved her two cats, “Scooby and Scrappy” and her grandchildren. She was also very proud of her Native American heritage. Lola was diagnosed with cancer two years ago in January, and she outlived the Doctor’s expectations. Lola passed away on February 20, 2010 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community, Aberdeen, SD.

Lola is survived by her four children, Gary White Jr. of Aberdeen, SD, Lola White-Hansen of Point Roberts, WA, Jeremy White of Aberdeen, SD and Kayla White of Aberdeen, SD; her grandchildren, Isaiah White, Tateska White-Hansen, and Macy White, her mother, Yvonne Williams of Agency Village, SD, four sisters, Mona Williams, Gail Williams, Karen Williams and Lisa Redwing, all of Sisseton, SD; two brothers, Louis Williams of Sisseton, SD and Robert Williams of Canton, SD; special cousin, Elden and wife, Darlene Wanna of Aberdeen, SD

Lola was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, David and Florence Wanna, several uncles and aunts. .

Russell Brown

Russell Roderick Brown was born November 6, 1929 in Eden, SD. He passed away November 17, 2009 in Auburn, WA, from cancer.
Russell had a military funeral and his remains are interred at Tahoma National Military Cemetery, Kent, WA.

Russell was the sixth of eight children born to Walter and Lydia Brown. In 1948, Russell joined the Navy and served his country for nine years. After leaving the Navy, he settled in Washington, where he worked for the Boeing Company for 30 years before retiring in 1987. Russell also met and married Joan Schmaus in June of 1958 and they celebrated their 51st anniversary this past summer.

Russell is survived by his two sons, Russ Jr. (Kathy) and Ron; five grandchildren, Roni, Tabitha, Sara, Jacob and Mackenzie; and one great-grandson, Robbie. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Lila, Sisseton, SD; and three sisters, Ellen, Webster, SD, Ruth, Sioux Falls, SD, and Doris, Lynnwood, WA.

Russell was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd, Phillip and Walter.

Sylvester M Venteicher, 88, went to his eternal rest on Saturday May 6, 2006 at the Avera Sr. James Care Center in Yankton, SD. Visitation will be at Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk, NE on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 10:00 am with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, in Norfolk. Visitation will continue one hour prior to mass in Norfolk.
Sylvester was born on May 20, 1917 to Ben and Elizabeth (Kallhoff) Venteicher on a farm near Elgin, NE. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He married Margaret Sauser in 1948 and farmed and milked cows near Elgin, Norfolk and Meadow Grove until retiring in 1984 when he moved to Norfolk. Margaret passed away in 1987 and he married Marian Kimbell in 1988. He moved to Majestic Bluffs in 2001.
Sylvester was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Mary's Church in Norfolk and was active in the Norfolk Senior Citizen's Center. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and growing flowers. He was known and loved for his sense of humor, hard work and dedication, and love for his family.
Those who are blessed by having him in their life include his wife, Marian of Yankton and eleven children, Mary (Duane) Steffen of New London, MN; Gerald (Trish) of Bossier City, LA; Loretta Freudenburg of Loveland, CO; Margaret Ann Johnson of Firestone, CO; Carol (Bruce) Mordhorst of Ukiah, CA; Dale of Red Feather, CO; Alice (Steve) Rokahr of Yankton, SD; Roger (Jackie) of Christiansburg, VA; Marlene (Jack) Konsel of Columbus, NE; Nita (Dan) Meyer of Randolph, NE and Nancy (Chuck) Dunivan of Meadow Grove, NE. Sylvester had 29 grandchildren and 23 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Ferdinand and two sisters, Bernadine (Harry) Leas and Lillian Wittler. He was preceded in death by his first wife, one brother, two sons-in-law and one grandson.

Otto Ullrich, age 91, of Yankton, SD passed away Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Chaplain Mary Buhl officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Thursday, at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, with the family present at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Otto was born February 10, 1915 to James and Bessie (Balacek) Ullrich on a farm north of Yankton. He had been a life long resident of Yankton County. His early years was spent on the family farm. Later he was employed by Wilson Farworthy Company, the Yankton Police Department, and for thirty years at the Manhattan Bar and Cafe as a clerk. He retired from the Manhattan in 1978 and worked from 1980 to 1990 at Johnson Appliance.
He was preceded in death by long time friend and companion Marie Davies, his parents, sister Clara Catsrop, brother Henry and sister Genevieve. Otto's memory is cherished by one son Dr. James R. Ullrich and his wife Cathy, of Missoula, MT, sister Louise Valasek of Yankton of Duncan, NE, and special friend Ruth Snay of Yankton

Mildred G. Wood, age 81 of Yankton passed away Tuesday, May 02, 2006 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, May 5, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Msgr. Carlton Hermann officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton. Visitations will be from 2-9 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Kostel Funeral Home, Yankton with a 7:00 PM rosary followed by a 7:30 scripture service. Pallbearers will be Ken Becvar, Leland Wiedmeier, Bruce Ulmer, Jeff Dreesen, Steve Fejfar, and Charles Lubbers. Honorary pallbearers will be Barb Healy, Glenna Anderson, Elaine Strunk, Dorothy Nielson, Nadean Auch, Clara Mae Wiedmeier, Maxine Brochmueller, Virginia Cuka, Delores Hauger, Glennys Larsen and all past members of the Up & Go Club.
Mildred was born April 22, 1925 to Mathias and Theresa (Kortan) Becvar on the family farm near Tabor, SD. The third of six children, she attended and graduated from Byrne School District #62 in 1945. After attending Communications College in Minneapolis, MN, Mildred began working for Pacific Airlines in Washington, DC in the Communications Center for one year. She married Leo H. Wood, Jr. on October 3, 1949 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Tabor, SD. Leo and Mildred made their home on the family farm near Midway. Mildred was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church where she taught catechism for many years and was a member of the Mayfield Altar Society. After retiring from farming for nearly 50 years they moved to Yankton in 1997 where they became members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Yankton Senior Citizens Center, and the Up & Go Club.
Her memory is cherished by four children; Margaret "Peggy" (Gary) Gunderson of Apple Valley, MN, Roger (Teresa) Wood of Sioux Falls, SD, Judy Dreesen (Dan Otteman) of Gayville, SD, and Debbie (Grayson Wayne) Tomlin of Stewartville, MN; 10 grandchildren: Krista Gunderson, Michelle Gunderson, Stacey Wood, Jessica Wood, Ryan Wood, Jeff (Stacey) Dreesen, Megan Dreesen, Emily Tomlin, Jill Tomlin, and Katherine Tomlin. Three brothers; Laddie (Leona) Becvar of Tyndall, SD, John (Marian) Becvar of Yankton, SD, and Lawrence (Karen) Becvar of North Platte, NE. Two sisters-in-law Helen Becvar and Mildred Herman both of Tyndall, SD and close friend Leonard Tacke of Yankton, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo in 2004, and two brothers Daniel in 2000 and Andrew in 1972.

Christian Albert Zeeb, age 89 of Parkston and formerly of Menno passed away Monday, May 01, 2006 at the Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston, SD. Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church in Menno, SD with Rev. Brad Danielson officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitations will be from 2-7 PM, Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno with a 7:00 PM family prayer service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Brian Winter, William Zeeb, Craig Zeeb, James Winter, Todd Zeeb, and Kevin Zeeb. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Winter, Barry Zeeb, Scott Winter, and Jason Zeeb.
Christian Albert Zeeb was born September 18, 1916 to Albert Carl and Emma (Knodel) Zeeb in Menno, SD. He was baptized December 17, 1916 by Rev. Rittershaus and confirmed June 28, 1931 by Rev. Bodenman at Salem Reformed Church in Menno, SD. On March 27, 1938, he was united in marriage to Ida Leah Heinle in Menno, SD. They moved to Scotland, SD and raised a family of 4 children. He worked as a house mover for many years and also had a Cattle Oiler Business. In 1967, they moved to West Bend, WI, where he worked at the West Bend Factory until moving back in 1977. He worked with his brother, Hank, doing salvage work until his stroke in 1999, when he became a resident of the Mogck Home until December 2004, when he moved to Bormann Manor in Parkston. He entered the Avera St. Benedict Hospital on April 30, 2006.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Menno since 1977 when he moved back from West Bend, WI.
Those who will cherish his memory are his children: Elizabeth M. (Betty) Winter of Mitchell, SD, Donald A. Zeeb of Sun City, AZ, and Robert A. (Judy) Zeeb of LaCrosse, WI; brother, Elmer (Verna) Zeeb of Menno, SD; sisters: Gertrude Edelman of Yankton, SD, Leona Gall of Sioux Falls, SD, and Edna Fillaus of Menno, SD; 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, 21 nieces and nephews, a daughter-in-law, Helen Zeeb of West Bend, WI, and 2 sister-in-laws: Laverna Zeeb of Sioux Falls, SD and Violet Redner of Grand Rapids, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Leah Zeeb, his son, Clifford A. Zeeb, and his brothers: Gideon (Pete), Ewald (Freddie), Eugene (Hankie), Reinhold (Ronnie), Helmuth (Billie), and Rueben.

Wesley E. Hoxeng, age 84, of Yankton passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Kostel Funeral Chapel in Yankton, SD with Rev. Rodney Veldhuisen officiating with military rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791, Yankton. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. Anyone who knew Wesley is invited to attend the memorial service.
Wesley E. Hoxeng was born on May 24, 1922 in Yankton, SD to Oscar and Lucille (Cowman) Hoxeng. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Volin, SD. He served in the Army Air Force A.T.C from January 1942 to the summer of 1946. On November 29, 1947, he was united in marriage to Betty Bradley in Arizona. Wesley worked in the aerospace industry for 10 years then as a manufacturing representative selling aerospace hardware until retiring in 1987. He was active in the YMCA Indian Guides and Little League with his three sons-Steve, Greg, and Larry for several years. Wesley and Betty celebrated 58 1/2 years of marriage. Wes had a great sense of humor and was very well liked by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed.
Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Betty L. Hoxeng of Yankton, SD; sons: Steven (Becky) of Missouri, Gregory (Gloria) of Buena Park, CA, and Larry (Sherry) of Vancouver, WA; daughter, Linda Brandon of Vernon, TX; two brothers: Gordon Hoxeng of Yankton, SD and Keith Hoxeng of Sebastopol, CA; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Lucille Hoxeng and grandparents, Tore and Ingebord (Aune) Hoxeng and William and Carrie (Vognild) Cowman. The family wishes for memorials to be directed to: Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota, 4500 W. 69th St., Sioux Falls, SD, 57108.

Rose E. Massey, age 96, of Yankton, passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Catholic Church Parish Cemetery, Idylwilde at approximately 12:45 PM. Visitations will be 6 to 9 PM, Friday, at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a scripture service at 7:30 PM.
Pallbearers are David Martin, Davin (Dave) Hubbs, Dan Massey, Larry Massey, Frank Massey and Tony Renaz.
Rose was born to Louis and Anna (Bauer) Dangel Sr on August 16, 1909 in Freeman, South Dakota. She grew up and attended rural school. On August 16, 1927 Rose married William C. Massey Jr. at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They farmed in Hutchinson County for 41 years and then moved to Menno, South Dakota in 1968. Rose worked at cafés for 12 years and babysat for sometime. When her husband's health began to fail, they moved to Yankton where Rose did some house cleaning. William passed away in 1984. Rose was a member of Sacred Heart Catholich Church. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters, Minister of Praise and Catholic Mothers. Rose loved to garden, plant flowers and bake cookies for friends and neighbor's.
Rose is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Olesen of Yankton, South Dakota; 3 sons, Robert (Janice) Massey of Yankton, South Dakota, Edward (Kristie) Massey of Freeman, South Dakota, Tom (Anita) Massey of Las Vegas, Nedvada; sister, Magdaline Christensen of Viborg, South Dakota; brother, Jim Dangel of Freeman, South Dakota; 27 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 sisters, 2 brothers and one great grandchild.

Ilene Marie (Johnson) Anderson, 84, died on Monday August 7, 2006 after a short illness. Funeral services will be on Friday, August 11 at 10:30 AM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 29432 US Highway 81, Irene South Dakota. Burial to follow at Bang Lutheran Cemetery rural Freeman, SD. Visitations will be on Thursday, August 10 from 5:00 to 9:00 with a service at 7:00 PM at Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton S.D. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Dakota Anderson, Steve Aman, Chad Balken, Roger Anderson, Judy Johnson, David Johnson, Gary Kropuenske, and John Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Ilene was born on October 25,1921 to Hjalmer and Thelma (Carter) Johnson. Ilene grew up on the family farm along with her four older brothers near Viborg. Ilene graduated from Viborg High School and Freeman Junior College.
Ilene and Ray Anderson were married on May 9,1948. They raised three children together on a farm close to where she grew up.
Ilene spent most of her life living on a farm in the Viborg and Freeman area. She taught school many years in the rural Turner County elementary school system. Ilene was also the bookkeeper at Freeman Implement while she and Ray lived in Freeman.
Ilene was an active member for all of her 84 years in the area rural Lutheran Churches. Bang Lutheran, followed by Elim Lutheran and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was an active member of ELCA Women and the Bang Cemetery Association.
Ilene is survived by her husband Ray, rural Freeman, daughter Debra (Dale) Aman of Aberdeen, son Rodney (Robin Cooley) of Houston, TX, son Mark (Teresa) Anderson of rural Freeman, SD. Her grandchildren Kristi Aman (Chad) Balken, Steve Aman, Dakota Anderson and Taylor Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Merlin, Orville, and Ole Johnson, and 1 brother-in-law Arthur Jerome Anderson. The family request that memorials be directed to the Bang Lutheran Cemetery Association at 28870 443rd Ave. Freeman, SD 57029.

Nettie G. Carda, age 94, of Tabor, passed away Tuesday, August 08, 2006, at the Tyndall Good Samaritan Center, Tyndall, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, August 11, 2006 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Tabor, with Rev. Joe Puthenkulathil officiating and Msgr. Carlton Hermann concelebrating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitations will be 3 to 9 PM, Thursday, at the Kostel Funeral Home, Tabor, with a scripture service followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Nettie was born on April 4, 1912 in Bon Homme County to Stiny and Agnes (Such) Carda. She attended Stekly Country School near Tyndall. Nettie grew up on the family farm close to Tyndall and helped with farm work for many years. Nettie was employed by the DB Woodyard family of Omaha, NE for most of her adult life. She traveled extensively with the family enjoying deep-sea fishing off the coast of Cuba, summers on Green Lake in Minnesota and sailing. Nettie later worked several years at Gurney Seed & Nursery and The Freeman Company in Yankton. She then retired and lived with and cared for her father in Tabor.
Nettie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing and knitting, gardening, traveling and helping others. She was known to all as a kind, gentle, compassionate person who saw the good and positive in every person and situation. Nettie was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Tabor; Altar and Rosary Society; Catholic Workman; Czech Heritage and Senior Citizens in Tabor.
Her memory will be cherished by her six sisters, Anne Ulmer of Yankton, Vincie Adam of Tabor, Agnes (George) Kocer of Tabor, Betty (Sylvester) Kocer of Tabor, Irene (Raymond) Kocer of Tabor, Alice (Tony) Rotchadl of Mankato, MN; her brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Cap of Yankton and four brothers-in-law, Jerry Adam, Henry Adam, Bud Ulmer and Jerry Cap.

Cora M. Aten, age 90, of Charleston, IL died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Charleston Rehab & Health Care Center. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 20, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, Yankton with Rev. Dean Trapp officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. Visitations will be from 5-8 PM, Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD with an Order of Eastern Star Service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Keith Aten, Kevin Aten, Don Kudrna, Ron Koupal, Charles Tienken and Loy Gravholt. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Aten, Patrick Aten and Laddie Kostel.
Cora Mae Sloan was born March 5, 1916 in Endicott, NE, the oldest child of Roger and Marie (Moser) Sloan. The family moved to the Ragan, NE area when she was an infant. She attended and was a graduate of the Ragan Consolidated School, one of the first consolidated schools in the state. In high school, she was active in 4-H, orchestra, Girls' Glee Club, and took the state accredited high school normal training courses passing all the exams. For several years, she taught in a rural school near Alma, NE. She was united in marriage to Lloyd B. Aten on November 23, 1935 in Kearney, NE. To this union were born two sons-Dennis Wayne Aten in 1937 and Ronald Bruce Aten in 1944. For two years, Cora was employed by the local telephone office in Ragan, NE. They lived in several states over the years, including Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa before residing in Tabor in 1950. While living in Tabor, her husband, Lloyd was employed at BY Electric as a manager and upon his retirement, they moved to Yankton.
Cora was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Ragan, NE, Springfield, Tyndall, and Yankton. She was very active in the United Methodist Women in Tyndall and Yankton, where she held the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and other offices at various times. Her memberships also extend to the Order of the Eastern Star in Springfield, Tyndall, and Yankton, where she held all offices but two at various times, and the United Methodist Administration Board in Tyndall and Yankton. For several years, she was a member of the hand bell choir.
Her memory will be cherished by her two sons: Dennis of Charleston, IL and Ron of Abilene, TX; her brother, Dale Sloan of Springfield, IL; five grandchildren: Keith Aten of Gardner, KS, Kevin Aten of Cerro Gordo, IL, Lori Aten of Charleston, IL, Chris Aten of Wichita Falls, TX, and Patrick Aten of Lubbock, TX; five great grandchildren: Christina Purcell, Leanna Purcell, Sarah Aten, Ashley Purcell, and Paul Aten, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd in 1991, three brothers: Wayne Sloan in 1934 in an accident, Larry Sloan in 2000, Glen Sloan in 2004, a sister, Roselyn Kasson in 1996.
