Mary Ann Walton, 76 of Yankton, SD passed away April 2, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital following complications from surgery. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with the Reverend Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Sunday with a 7 pm Rosary followed by a 7:30 pm Scripture Service at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Pallbearers will be Bill Philips, Bob Philips, Dave Cassanova, Tiffany Galvan, ValDez Galvan, and Sarah Walton.

It was Mary's fervent wish that her funeral service be a celebration of her life more than a mournful occasion and expressed her desire for those attending to wear bright colors of rejoicing.

Mary Ann was born March 10, 1932 to William & Blanche (Theobald) Philips in West Union, IA, the youngest of 4 children. She graduated in 1950 from West Union High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, IA earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Math & Chemistry Education in 1954. She married Laurence Russell Walton on August 21, 1954. They had a daughter, Theresa Marie and son, Michael Laurence.

Shortly after getting her degree she taught junior high and high school math and science in Ocheyden, IA; Arvada, Colorado; and Alden, Iowa until 1973. During summer sessions from 1961 thru 1965 she attended University of North Dakota in Grand Forks earning a Master of Science Degree in Math & Science Teaching. During her time in Alden she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Troop Leader and was active in St. Marks's Catholic Church.

Mary Ann then went on to attend Respiratory Therapy School from 1973-1974 at McKennan Hospital, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy. In 1974 she moved to Independence, Iowa where she established the new Respiratory Therapy Department at People's Memorial Hospital.

In 1978 Mary moved to Yankton, South Dakota where she became program director for Respiratory Therapy and Division Chair for Health Sciences at Mount Marty College. In 1994 the Respiratory Therapy program was closed and she continued teaching in the Math and Science Departments. She served on many committees and served as President Pro Tem. She also taught math at the Yankton Federal Prison Camp. She "retired" from Mount Marty College in 2000, but continued to tutor in the Learning Resource Center and agreed to teach a couple more classes. She completely retired in summer of 2003.

Mary was a an active member of Sacred Heart Church, volunteered for many activities to include ushering/greeting, bringing communion to hospitalized parish members and running the kitchen operations for the Annual Fall Bazaar & Dinner. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, taking active leadership roles in the local chapter. Her life's passions were her family, teaching and serving her church. The knowledge, passion for learning and confidence she instilled in her students and family, were among her greatest gifts to those whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Walton, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Cindy Walton, foster daughter Bich (Nguyen) Ho, grandchildren Sarah A. Walton, Tiffany (ValDez) Galvan, David Cassanova, Vincent Ho, and Eileen Ho and great grandchildren Joshua and Miguel Galvan as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law Laurence T. (Speed) and Norma (Fritz) Philips, brother and sister-in-law Thomas E. and Marjorie (Ernst) Philips; and sister and brother-in-law Pauline & Earl J. McCart.

In lieu of flowers, Mary and her family requests memorials in her memory be sent to St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain SD 57326

Margaret K. Weiss, age 97 of Yankton and formerly of Howard, SD died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at her residence at Avera Majestic Bluffs. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 15, 2008 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard, SD with Rev. Michael Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Howard, SD. Visitations will be from 3-9 PM, Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton with a 7:00 PM rosary and video tribute followed by a 7:30 PM scripture service. Visitations will resume Saturday at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard from 9-10:30 AM with a 10:30 AM rosary.

Margaret Katherine Weiss was born October 27, 1910 in LeMars, Iowa to Nicholas and Mary (Turmes) Reisch, the oldest of 13 children. The family moved to Howard, SD in 1915 and she spent most of the next 74 years there. She worked for 2 years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mitchell and 2 years in Denver, Colorado. She married Louis J. Weiss on July 4, 1945 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard, SD. Two daughters DiAnn and Joyce were born to this union. Louis and Margaret farmed near Howard until 1973 and then lived in Howard until 1989 when they moved to Yankton. She had been a resident of Majestic Bluffs Assisted Living since January 2007.

She is survived by her daughter, DiAnn (Gary) Honomichl of Yankton, SD; grandson, Jay (Alisa) Honomichl of Fort Dodge, IA; granddaughters: Sara (John) Osborne of Yankton, SD and Megan Schaefer of Keller, TX; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Amos (Marjorie) Reisch, and sisters, Vivian Lynde and Leona (Leo) Feldhaus, all of Howard, SD; a sister-in-law, Eileen Reisch of LaVerne, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, daughter, Joyce, parents, three sisters and six brothers.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1305 West 18th Street, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57117 in memory of Margaret for her great granddaughter, Molly Deyalsingh.

Mary L. Williams, 69, of Hot Springs, SD and formerly of the Vermillion/Burbank area, passed away Monday (Dec. 24, 2007) in Hot Springs.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with the Rev. Joe Schulte officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary was born in Virginia, IL on June 27, 1938. She married Donald Williams July 4, 1954 in Sterling, IL. They lived in the Vermillion/Burbank area from 1969-1997. They then moved to Hot Springs to retire.

She is survived by her husband, Don of Hot Springs; two sons: Jeff (Dianna) Williams of Parker and Steve (Jackie) Williams of Vermillion; four granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Margaret Ann Wilson, age 59 of Yankton and formerly of Santee, NE passed away at home in her sleep on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00, Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Our Most Merciful Savior Episcopal Church in Santee, NE with Rev. David Hussey and Chaplain Tweeter Henseler officiating. Burial will be in the Episcopal Cemetery. Visitations will be from 6-9 PM, Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD with a 7:00 PM wake service. Visitations and a wake service will begin at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center, Santee, NE, and resume one hour prior to the service at the community center. Pallbearers will be Edward Meng, Jr., Jason Fox, Mike Selwyn, Ty Holiday, Joe Selwyn, and Cory Meng. Honorary pallbearers will be all Santee Elders, Edward Meng, Sr., Myra Meng Zeigler, Kayla Meng, Ashley Meng, and Dillon McBride.

Margaret was born on June 15, 1948 to Steven and Mercy (Vassar) Moose in Yankton, SD. She was raised and attended Yankton Public School and then later St. Elizabeth Indian School in Wakpala, SD. For about five years, Margaret worked as a housekeeper at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. She was united in marriage to Mark Wilson in Yankton in May 1992. She also worked as a nurse's aide in Nebraska and South Dakota. Margaret was a very strong and courageous woman, who for many years suffered with diabetes, cancer, and was bound to a wheelchair. She shared a lot of love for her family and grandchildren.

Her memory will always be cherished by her husband, Mark Wilson; her sons; Mike McBride, Jimmy McBride, and Roy Stack, Jr.; her daughter, Sylvia Stack; brother, Robert Moose; sister, Virginia Goodteacher, all of her grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, two grandsons, two brothers, and two sisters.

Donald Dean Couch, age 82, of Yankton, SD passed away early Friday, March 14, 2008 at Oklahoma City, OK. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. David Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories, Yankton, SD with military graveside rites by Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791. Visitations will be 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday, at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, and then one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Jack Richardson, Steve Ellis, Richard Erickson, Barry Nielsen, Don Bottelfson, and Ron Hatch. Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Hatch, Gene Nelson, Lyle Hansen, and Don Carlson.

Donald Dean Couch was born January 23, 1926 to Willis and Iris (Sieler) Couch in Butte, Nebraska. He attended school in Butte, NE and graduated in 1943. He then continued his education at the University of Nebraska. In June of 1944, he entered into the United States Navy serving his country until July of 1946. His family had moved to Yankton while he was in the service and upon his return to Yankton in July of 1946, he attended Yankton College graduating in 1949. He married Virginia Nielsen in July 1949. He worked for his father at Couch Motor Company and also had gasoline transports. Don bought the transports in 1953 and incorporated the businesses under the name of Transport Service Inc. In 1965, Don and Henry Petersen started a truck repair business called Truck Trailer Sales and Service. Don sold Transport Service in 1965 and sold his shares in Truck Trailer in 1987. Don served on the Yankton City Commission from 1966-1972 and served as Mayor from 1970-1971. He belonged to Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, Rotary, Quarterback Club, and Trinity Lutheran Church. When they retired, they lived in Arizona for 6 months and in Yankton for 6 months each year.

Don is survived by his wife, Virginia of Yankton, SD; two sons, Jeffrey and Janice and their children, Kylene, Kira, and Mackensie of Fort Collins, CO and James and Cathy and their children, Jacob and Joey of Oklahoma City, OK, and one sister, Phyllis Jones of Tucson, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Thomas, parents, and one sister.

The family wishes for memorials to be directed to: Trinity Lutheran Church, 403 Broadway Avenue, Yankton, South Dakota 57078 or Alzheimer's Association, South Dakota Office, 1000 N. West Avenue, #250, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dr. Francis J. Dilger, M.D., age 89 of Yankton passed to his Eternal Reward on April 19, 2008 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. David Garza officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitations will be from 3-9 PM, Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD.

Dr. Francis J. Dilger was born on September 14, 1918, the first son of eight children of Dr. Francis Sherman Dilger, D.D.S. and Bozanna (Kolda) Dilger. He graduated at the top of his class from North Western Medical School in Chicago, IL.

Those who are left behind to mourn his absence are three children: Mary Ann (Dilger) Larson of Chicago, IL, Joseph Dilger of Yankton, SD, and Thomas Dilger of Beaverdam, VA; five sisters; Mary Gasteazoro, Delores Rike, Rosemary Stipo, Jan Lewis, and Joan Timony; a brother, Dr. Felix Dilger, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dr. Joseph P. Dilger

Mary Ann Hague, age 67 of Yankton died on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 31, 2007 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, SD with Rev. Ken Bain officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitations will be from 6-9 PM, Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton, SD with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be David Augustine, Steve Augustine, Tim Augustine, Craig DeJager, Tom Ortman, Beau Ortman.

Mary Ann was born on August 30, 1940 to John and Loretta (Flanagan) Cullinan in Hudson, South Dakota. She graduated from High School in Rock Valley, IA in 1958 and attended Cosmetology School in Sioux Falls, SD. On November 30, 1968 she was united in marriage to Dale N. Hague in Rock Valley, IA. She worked at various places: Bertha's Beauty Shop, Buhl's Laundry, Sunshine Nursing Home, Yankton Care Center, Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, and also operated Home Day Care Service. Mary Ann was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

The greatest joy of her life was making for her family a home that was both a place of refuge from the chaotic world and a place of love for all who entered it. For the longest time, she enjoyed the viewing of theatrical presentation of the martial art genre especially the works of Bruce Lee and Steven Seagal. For Mary, the time spent visiting with family and friends was one to be cherished and looked forward to with anticipation. Mary enjoyed the simple pleasure of shopping.

Those who will always cherish her memory are her two sons: Patrick J. Hague and Bradley W. Hague both of Yankton, SD; two sisters: Cleon (Ralph) Augustine of Remsen, IA and Barbara (Andrew) DeJager of Yankton, SD; four nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Harold M. Hansen, age 81, of Willow Lake, SD, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls, surrounded by all of his children. He died peacefully following a short battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vienna, SD, with Pastor Kathy Hibbert officiating. Military Graveside Rites by the Johnny Fonken American Legion Post #113 Willow Lake, SD. Burial will be in the Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, rural Vienna, SD. Visitations will be 5 to 7 PM, Thursday, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vienna, SD, with the family present at 5:00 PM and a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Harold was born in Willow Lake, SD to Hans and Mildred Hansen on September 9, 1926. He grew up, lived and worked most of his life in the Vienna, Naples and Willow Lake area. He farmed for many years in rural Vienna on the family homestead farm until he retired and moved to Willow Lake. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Fireman 1st Class. It was a proud moment for him when he received his honorary high school diploma from Willow Lake High School in 2001.

Harold was a member of the American Legion, Post 277, and a faithful member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna, SD. He enjoyed spending time with family and also with his coffee club at Myra's in Vienna, quilting at church, and playing rummy.

Grateful for having shared his life are his five children, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The families include DuWayne and Pam Hansen, Billings, MT, and their children Brad and Dawn Hansen and their 3 children of Rapid City, SD; Brian and Amie Hansen and their child of Ulm, MT; Sue and Tom Norlen, Sioux Falls, SD and their children John and Shelly Norlen and their 2 children of Sioux Falls, SD, Heidi and Jason Schiebout and their 2 children of Sioux Falls, SD, and Trevor and Misty Norlen and their child of Welcome, MN; Lanette and Rich Hinckley, Yankton, SD and their children RaDel and Sandy Hinckley and their 2 children of Independence, MO, Renae and Josh Chesley and their 2 children of Sioux Falls, SD and Nicole and Adam Christ and their 2 children, Yankton, SD; Val and Nordean Froke of Willow Lake, SD, and their children Travis and Jessie Froke, Troy Froke, and Todd Froke, all of Sioux Falls, SD; Lori and Mike Roinstad of Yankton, SD, and special family friend, Marvin Johnson of Bryant, SD. He is also survived by one brother Robert Hansen; two sisters Gladys Jorgensen and Inger Mussock; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis, their daughter, Marlys, his parents, one brother and one sister.
