Sonja Joyce Anderson, daughter of Emil and Ruby (Sowles) Anderson, was born January 9, 1937 in Worthington, MN. At age four she moved with her family to Sioux Falls, SD. She attended Lowell Elementary School. Sonnie graduated from Washington High School in 1954. She then attended Augustana College.

Sonnie was united in marriage with Keith Bissell in Sioux Falls on March 23, 1957. After raising two children, she worked first at Holmstrom Insurance and later at Sperling Insurance until illness forced her retirement.

Sonnie enjoyed spending weekends at the family cabin on Lake Brant. She also enjoyed get-togethers with former bowling teammates, high school friends and Mark Twain PTA moms.

Her two grandchildren were a joy to Sonnie and she spent much time at their many activities. With a zest for life, Sonnie had an indomitable spirit. Her smile and laugh spread to all whenever they were near her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Keith; two children, Jeanette White and her husband, Darren, Sioux Falls, SD, Brian Bissell and his friend, Missy Breck, Sioux Falls, SD; two grandchildren, Tanner and Haley White, Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Don E. Anderson and family, Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Mary Molzhan, her husband, Dick and family, Hawley, PA, Dorothy Barkley, her husband, Don and family, Woodbury, MN; one brother-in-law, Dick Bissell, his wife, Lois and family, Spring Lake Park, MN; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Bissell and family, Sioux Falls, SD, Linda Philp and family, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at George Boom Funeral Home following the committal service.

Lanny Duane Horr, son of Russell and Leona (Ridpath) Horr, was born March 6, 1935 at Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up and received his education in Sioux Falls where he attended Franklin Elementary, Whittier Junior High, and Washington High School.

Lanny entered the U.S. Navy in September 1952, where he served in the Pacific Theater during the Korean Conflict. He was an engineer’s mate and served on the U.S.S. Rendova, U.S.S. Askarti and U.S.S. Tortuga. He was honorably discharged in February 1956. He returned to Sioux Falls where he worked for Malloy Electric for a couple years.

Lanny was united in marriage with Wava Greenough on March 1, 1957, at Sioux Falls, SD.

They moved to Seattle Washington where he attended Seattle Dental Institute in 1959, where he learned to be a Dental Technician. He began working for Harrison Dental Lab in Seattle, WA where he worked from 1960 to 1981 when he moved back to Sioux Falls.

Lanny was united in marriage with Marian E. (Olson) Bachman on June 26, 1982, at Brandon, SD. They settled in Sioux Falls where they have lived since.

In May of 1983, Lanny began Lan’ s Dental Lab in which he has operated until March 2003 when he retired due to his health.

He is a member of Brandon Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #15, and Rambling Pheasants RV Club. He was quite the handyman and enjoyed fixing and doing projects around their home. They loved to travel in their RV and all the wonderful people and places they encountered along the way. They enjoyed snow birding to Mesa, Arizona during the winter months.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marian; two step sons, Tony Bachman, his wife, Stacey and her children Joe and Tara Chambers, Tim Bachman, his wife, Teresa and their children, Stephanie and Jacob, all of Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Duane Horr and his daughter, Crystal, of Washington; a daughter, Joli Scott, her husband, Billy and their children, Bailey and Cody, of Washington; his mother, Leona Horr, Sioux Falls, SD; his uncle, Frank Howard, Brandon, SD; a very special companion, ZuZu, their Long Haired Dachshund; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell; and a brother, Roger Horr.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for refreshments and fellowship at Brandon Lutheran Church following the funeral service and prior to leaving for the committal service.

Morris G. Winter

SIOUX FALLS -- Morris G. Winter, 81, of Sioux Falls, died Thursday, November 25, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital.

Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2004, at the Halladay-Peterson Memorial Chapel at Dow Rummel Village.

Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, is in charge of arrangements.

Morris G. Winter was born November 29, 1922, at Parkston, SD, to Gotthielf and Louise (Teide) Winter. He graduated from Parkston High School and the University of South Dakota. He also attended the School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin.

He married Doris Zehnpfennig on August 3, 1948. They had two children, Sally of Lake Andes, SD and Steve of Springfield, SD.

His career in banking spanned sixty years and included banks in Brookings, SD; Parkston, SD; Armour, SD; and Delmont, SD. He established the Andes State Bank in Lake Andes in 1962. He was President and Chairman of the Board of the First State Bank of Armour and the Andes State Bank of Lake Andes.

Morris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lake Andes; El Riad Chanters; Masons and Elks Lodge.

He served on the Board of Directors of Dow Rummel Village, USD Foundation, Lake Andes Nursing Home, Lake Andes Medical Center, Wagner-Lake Andes Irrigation Board and he was a past president of the South Dakota Bankers Association. He also was a founding member of the Ft. Randall Boat Club and the Randall Hills Country Club.

Morris is survived by his wife, two children, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Betty (Berglund) Laird

Betty (Berglund) Laird, born April 22, 1922 in Vermillion, S.D., passed away November 22, 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ.

She attended schools in S. Dakota and was married to Donald Laird in Vermillion. During WWII, Donald was a Lt. in the Navy and she traveled between Oregon and California to meet him when his ship came back to the States. When he was discharged from the Navy they moved to Tyndall, S.D., where he was President of Security State. Bank. Two sons were born to this union, James and Thomas. Jim passed away in 1996, and Tom is President of Security State Bank. Don passed away in 1998 at his home in Scottsdale.

Betty was a member of Chapter AZ-PEO, Order of Eastern Star, United Methodist Church, Methodist Ladies Aide, El Ried Shrine Auxiliary, Bridge Clubs and various golf courses.

She is survived by her son, Thomas and his wife, Judy; four grandsons: Brian, Anthony, John and Robert; a brother, Charles Berglund of California; sister-in-law, Betty Novatny of Texas and many friends and relatives.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents and sister.

Services were held at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale, AZ.

Eudell Lien

GARDEN CITY, Idaho -- Eudell "Eudy" Lien, 69, of Garden City, formerly of Yankton, died Monday, November 22, 2004, at home.

A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at Back-Streets Billiards, 10531 Overland Road. Services and cremation are under the direction of Bowman Funeral, Garden City. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Trondhjem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Volin, South Dakota.

Eudell was born November 4, 1935, at Viborg, SD, a son of Elmer and Joy Lien. He was reared and educated in Yankton, and later served in the U.S. Army. After the service, he worked as a machinist for the Hughes Aircraft Co, of Santa Monica. He moved to Boise in 1972 where he worked as a custodian at Boise State University for many years, retiring in 2004. "Eudy" loved billiards and country western music.

He is survived by his mother, Joy Lien of Yankton, a brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Pat Lien of Angels Camp, CA. and sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Jack Hansel of San Diego. His is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and close friends, Jim and Belva Brewer, Denver Jamison, and Lee and Ruth Standley, all of Boise.

Memorials may be made to the Idaho State Veterans Home, care of Bowman Funeral, 5525 Glenwood St., Garden City, ID. 83714.

Donald Hofmaier

Donald Joseph Hofmaier, age 70 of Crofton, Nebraska, died at his residence on Monday, November 22, 2004.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, November 26, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Boudrou officiating. Burial will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton, NE. with military rites by the Crofton American Legion Post #128.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 26th from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a 10:30 a.m. vigil service all at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton, NE in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers are Lisa Halverson, Doug Rupiper, Brent Rupiper, Adam and John Hofmaier, Tony Pick, Peggy Brower and John Lenzen.

Honorary Pallbearers are Nieces & Nephews and the Crofton American Legion Post #128.

Donald Joseph Hofmaier was born on October 22, 1934, in Yankton, SD to Lawrence and Katheryn (Eickhoff) Hofmaier. He grew up in the Crofton area and graduated from Crofton High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1958. He graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1963. Donald married Celestine "Sally" Lenzen on July 22, 1964 in St. James, Nebraska. He and Sally returned to Crofton where he worked as a veterinarian until his death.

Donald was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton; lifetime member of the Crofton American Legion Post #128; member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association. Donald and Bill Boecker were instrumental in starting the Crofton Appreciation Bar-B-Q over 30 years ago. He and Sally were in charge of the meat for the Bar-B-Q and also for the St. Rose of Lima Bazaar, which they worked together for many years. Don was always willing to volunteer to help someone out. He loved to hunt, fish and garden.

He is survived by his wife, Sally of Crofton; one son, David A. and wife, Hilary Hofmaier, Pocatello, Idaho; five brothers and wives: Dennis and Jan Hofmaier, Downers Grove, Illinois; Allan and Ardi Hofmaier, Sun City West, Arizona; Jim Hofmaier, North Bend, Oregon; Terence Hofmaier, San Diego, California; Gordon and Judi Hofmaier, Mitchell, NE; three sisters and husbands: Ethel Hofmaier, Tabb, Virginia; Ann and Glenn Halverson, Yankton, SD; and Jane and Larry Rupiper, Yankton, SD.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
