Darlene M. Richardson, age 78, of Yankton, passed away early Monday morning, October 13, 2008, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational), Yankton, with Rev. Joe Schulte officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery, Parker, SD, at approximately 2:00 PM, Thursday afternoon. Visitations will be 6 to 9 PM, Wednesday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be her 4 grandsons, Tyler and Wade Richardson, Dalton and Harry Decker, 4 nephews, Jim and Randy Richardson, Jeff Koller, and Jon Walser. Honorary Pallbearers will be the PEO Sisterhood.

Darlene was born March 6, 1930 in Sioux Falls, SD to Edward and Dorothy (Martin) Walser. In 1938, her family moved to Bridgewater, SD and then 1942 they moved to Parker, SD where she graduated from high school and met her future husband Jack Richardson. Darlene attended General Beadle State Teachers' College in Madison, SD which provided her the education to be an elementary teacher. She and Jack were married on August 10, 1952 in Parker, SD. Her first teaching experience was in Brookings and Milbank, SD before moving to Yankton, SD in 1957. She was a wife, and mother to their two children and a substitute teacher, later teaching in Beadle Elementary school in Yankton for 22 years, retiring in 1989.

During retirement, she and Jack enjoyed trips and cruises to foreign countries, USA traveling, winters in AZ, and volunteering. Darlene was a member of the United Church of Christ (Congregational), PEO Chapter AS, Yankton Area Retired Teachers Association and YHS Booster Club. She felt fortunate that she was able to be a part of her grandsons' lives as they grew into adults. She enjoyed times with her husband and family, teaching children, reading, bird watching, attending YHS activities and playing dominoes and cards with friends.

Her memory is cherished by her husband, Jack, of Yankton, SD; son Terry (Arlett) of Coloma, MI, daughter Kay (Doug) Decker of Pierre, SD, 4 grandsons; Tyler (Karissa), Dalton, Harry, Wade; brother Robert (Janie) Walser of Yankton, SD; nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Joann Koller.

Darlene requested memorials be directed to the United Church of Christ (Congregational), 218 West 5th Street, Yankton, SD 57078 and her favorite garden: McCrory Gardens at South Dakota State University; SDSU Foundation Box 525; Brookings, SD 57007-9980.

Robert Daniel Riibe, 20 years old from Yankton was returned to Our Lord on Sunday, September 20, 2008 as a victim of a tragic shooting at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. John Fischer officiating and Rev. Mark Lichter concelebrating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitations will be from 3-9 PM, Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7PM rosary followed by a 7:30 PM scripture service. Arrangements are in care of the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton. Pallbearers will be his brothers: Albert "Mike" Riibe, Jacob Bergeson, Richard Riibe, Brad Riibe, Jonathan Riibe, Ryan Seiler, brother-in-law, Bryan Prior, and uncle, Andy Johnson.

Robert Daniel Riibe was born January 21, 1988 at Beaufort, South Carolina. He spent most of his life in Yankton, SD. Robert and his four siblings were adopted by Pat and Patty Riibe. Robert loved life and spending time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed working with computers, playing video games, vacationing at Okoboji, Orlando, Disneyland, and the Black Hills. He loved eating cheeseburgers from McDonalds.

He attended school in Yankton and was proud to go through graduation with his friends in the class of 2007. He received services from Ability Building Services where he enjoyed teasing the staff and his friends at ABS. He worked at ABS and loved his new job washing dishes at Mount Marty College. His favorite job was working on computers at Kolberg's. Even after he finished his job skills training, Robert frequently would visit his friends at Kolberg's.

He was a gentle soul, would give you the shirt off his back, or offer to help fix your computer. Robert's world contained no strangers. He was friendly, loving, and would greet everyone.

Blessed for having shared Robert's life are his parents, Pat and Patty Riibe; six brothers: Albert "Mike" (Tina) Riibe, Jacob Bergeson, Richard, Brad, and Jon Riibe and Ryan Seiler all of Yankton, SD; five sisters: Krysta (Bryan) Prior, Theresa, Annie, and Mary Ellen Riibe, all of Yankton, SD and Shelly (Roger) Broghammer of Colman, SD; his grandparents; Dale and Joan Johnson of Madison, SD and Eugenia Riibe of Yankton, SD; his nieces and nephews: Mitchell, Josh, and Maddie Riibe; Austin and Brooke Prior, and Myranda Moad, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandfather, Francis Riibe, Aunt Rebecca Johnson, cousins, Johan Johnson and Rita Bickett Spyksma, and his very special friend, Randy Schoenberger.

Helen Mary Rokusek, age 88 of Yankton passed away on Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton, SD with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be approximately at 4:00 PM at the St. George Catholic Cemetery in Scotland, SD. Visitations will be 4-8 PM, Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with the family present from 7-8 PM. Pallbearers will Be Joe Rokusek, Linda Rokusek, Kristen Rokusek, Jeff Kaiser, Todd Kaiser, and Toni Vetch.

Helen Mary was born September 10, 1919 to Frank and Matilda (Sedlacek) Brezina on the family farm near Tripp, SD. She was raised in the Tripp area and attended country school. On October 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Alvin Rokusek in Scotland, SD. They farmed north of Scotland until 1969. In 1968, she went to work at the Human Services Center in Yankton as an aide, where she was employed for 15 1/2 years. For the next 8 years, she worked at Avera Sister James Nursing Home and then at Fitzgerald Potato Chip Factory for 4 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Foresters, and Catholic Daughters.

Her memory will always be cherished by her children: Robert "Bob" (Darlene) Rokusek of Scotland, SD, Betty (Mike) Vetch of Surprise, AZ, and JoAnn (Ken) Kaiser of Omaha, NE; two sisters: Hattie Becvar of Tyndall, SD and Ella Schmidt of Tripp, SD; a brother, Edward Brezina of Tripp, SD; 6 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Emil, and 2 brothers-in-law, Pete Becvar and Albert Schmidt.

LaVonne A. Rolfs, age 81, of Yankton, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m, Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. David Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, Columbus, NE at approximately 2:30 p.m, Tuesday afternoon. Visitations will be 5-9 p.m, Monday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a scripture service and video tribute at 7:00 p.m. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Dave Schieffer, Bob Jaster, Doug Schieffer, Brian Jaster, Dean Valentine and Van Zahrbock. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters and step-grandchildren.

LaVonne Jaster Rolfs was born on January 2, 1928 to Ernest and Minnie (Langelett) Gabel at Akron, IA. She was born and raised on a farm near Akron and attended school in Akron. She married Emil Jaster on September 26, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA. They lived in LeMars where she worked at the Wayside Inn several years until she and her husband quit farming. In 1960, they moved to Columbus, NE and owned and operated their own restaurant until 1966. She worked at Jack and Jill until 1971 when they moved to Crofton, NE. Following Emil's death in 1981, she moved to Yankton and worked at White Drug for many years until retirement. LaVonne married her second husband, Clarence Rolfs on June 11, 1983 in Yankton. She lived for her family and was a very loving and giving person. She never finished a conversation without saying "God Bless You."

LaVonne's memory will be cherished by her daughter, Darlene Schieffer of Yankton, SD, and sons: Darwin (Bernie) Jaster of Columbus, NE, Darius Jaster of Sioux Falls, SD and Daryl Jaster of Yankton, SD; brother, Eldon Gabel of Akron, IA, 25 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emil Jaster, second husband, Clarence Rolfs, son, Darcy Jaster, brothers: Donald and Virgil Gabel, granddaughter, Barbara Jaster, and step daughter, Jean Hunhoff, as well as other half-brothers and half-sisters.

The family wishes for memorials to be directed to: Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 403 Broadway Avenue, Yankton, SD 57078.

Bonnie M. (Shear) (Bisson) Schaeffer, age 73, of Tyndall, SD died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at St. Michael's Hospital, Tyndall, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, September 8, 2008 at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Tyndall, with Rev. Leonard Kayser officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Tyndall, SD. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Sunday, with a scripture service at 7:30 PM at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Tyndall, SD with visitations resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements. Bonnie requests everyone dress as you did when you came to visit her. Pallbearers will be Vern Hicks, Russell Bisson, Jack Johnson, Travis Bohy, Jr., Joseph Bisson, and Vincent Whipple.

Bonnie was born October 20, 1934 to Vern and Effie (Olmstead) Shear at Naytawash, Minnesota. She went to school at Chelan, Washington and later married Warren Bisson at Wenatchee, Washington. To this union six children were born. She worked with Social Services caring for foster children in Washington and Minnesota from 1956 to 1978. She married Marvin Schaeffer in 1979 in Las Vegas, Nevada where they made their home until 1989 when they moved back to the Yankton, SD area.

She is survived by her children; Kathlene (Victor) Link of Tyndall, SD, Linda Bisson of Tyndall, SD, Joseph (Jen) Bisson of Clarksville, TN, Jeanna (Scott) Phillips of Tyndall, SD, Jewele (Paul) Johnson of Reno, NV, and Beverly (Terry) Woodbeck of Eagle Grove, IA. Adopted son and daughter Larry (Nancy) Buckman of Minneapolis, MN and Phyllis (Ray) Cardona of Henderson, NV. 28 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. One sister Lucille Springate of Algoma, WI and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Don, George, and Glen Shear, and one sister Lula Salchenberge.

Lorene Schenk, age 93, of Irene and formerly of Yankton, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Irene, SD, with Rev. Diane Koschmeder officiating. Burial will be at the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Irene, SD, at approximately 3:30 PM Wednesday afternoon. Visitations will be 5 to 7 PM, Tuesday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, with the family present. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Daron Schenk, Daniel Schenk, Lonnie Schenk, Randy Eide, Timothy Eide, Mark Eide, and Cody Schenk.

Lorene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Lorene was born February 13, 1915 to Victor and Nora Ness. She was baptized Feb. 26, 1915 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, and S.D. Rev. Levorson confirmed her on August 25, 1929 at Bethlehem Norwegian Lutheran Church. Lorene was a valedictorian graduate of Yankton High School. On December 14, 1935, Lorene was united in marriage to Ted Schenk of Menno, S.D. To this union were born two children, Gaye and Larry. Lorene spent many years working along side her husband Ted on the family farm. She was also employed at Yankton College in food service. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and baby-sitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Irene, SD and taught Sunday school for years at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was also very active in the Ladies Aide. Her grandchildren and the many other children in the family that shared her devotion, patience, and love fondly referred her to as 'Little Gram'. Ted and Lorene were blessed to have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. In 1994 they moved from Yankton to Sunrise Villa, Irene SD. After Ted's passing, Lorene moved in with her son Larry and daughter in law Dorothy were she spent the last eleven years of her life. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Gaye, Larry and daughter in law, Dorothy all of Irene, twelve grandchildren, thirty-eight great -grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren and several friends and relatives. Proceeding her in death was her husband Ted, and parents Victor and Nora Ness.

Alverno J. Scherschligt, age 96, of Yankton, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7 PM followed a scripture service at 7:30 PM. Pallbearers will be Trent Kuchta, Matt Kuchta, Wally Spencer, Dennis Schmidt, Joe Hersman, and Gene Hollman

Mr. Scherschligt was born in Yankton on March 12, 1912 to Hubert N. and Theresa ( Sigel) Scherschligt and lived in Yankton County all his life. On October 17, 1940 he married Anna Marie Moses. She died July 28, 1984. On July 16, 1994 he married Dorothy Hollmann.

In the early 1960's, Mr. Scherschligt was the owner and proprietor of the Owl Gun Shop in downtown Yankton, but for most of his life he was a professional musician. He was well known in the area for his beautiful piano and organ playing and often performed at restaurants and lounges with the Alverno Combo. He was also a prolific composer and arranger. In his younger days he was an avid hunter and fisherman, but later he turned to other hobbies: collecting antiques, raising pigeons, and playing pool.

Mr. Scherschligt was a member of the Musician's Union and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy, two daughters, Sharell (Bob) Rupiper of Chowchilla, CA and LeEtte (Lucas) Vos of Hanover Park IL; two grandchildren, Kristina Kuchta of Irene, SD, and David Rupiper of Santa Rosa, CA; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four stepchildren: Sue (Joe) Hersman of Tyndall, SD, Daisy (Marv) Kamback of Yankton, Joy (Tom) Harrington of Andover, NJ and Gene (Nicki) Hollmann of Havre, MT, along with many step-grand and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marie, three brothers: Louis, Romane, and Hubert (Boots); and his stepdaughter Sharon Bruner.

Delwyn F. Schieffer, age 76, of Crofton, NE, passed away Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at the Yankton Medical Clinic, Yankton, SD after a short battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 13, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, NE, with Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Friday, September 12, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with a wake service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will follow funeral services at Constance Parish Center. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Poore, LeRay Anderson II, Eric Kelly, Robert Bollich, David Johnson and Dustin Anderson.

Delwyn was born April 16, 1932 to Fred and Olivia (Wiebelhaus) Schieffer on the family farm east of Crofton. He attended country school through the eighth grade.

He was married to Patricia Wieseler on June 22, 1953 in Holy Trinity Church in Hartington, NE. Delwyn and Patricia have successfully farmed in Cedar and Knox County for the past 55 years.

Some of the things Delwyn enjoyed were feeding his cattle, running the tractor and combine, and going to the sale barn. He especially liked visiting at the Crofton Elevator.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, 5 daughters, JoAnn (Carlos) Salas, Dakota City, NE, LaDonna Anderson, Crofton, NE, Renee Bollich, Yankton, SD, MaryLee (Gerry) Johnson, Crofton, NE, and Kathleen (Larry) Taylor, Crofton, NE; one son, Michael (Lois) Schieffer, Crofton, NE; sisters, Denelda (Larry) Nelson, Marcelline (Emery) Schmitt, Teresa Foner, and Arlis (Dave) Hunhoff; one brother, Marnie (Rose) Schieffer; 22 grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Olivia Shieffer, a sister at birth, Victoria Shieffer, a brother Gervase, and a sister Darnell Maly.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be sent to St. Rose School, Attn: Mr. Scott Becker, 1302 West 5th Street, Crofton, NE 68730.

Helen M. Schuch, age 97, of Tabor, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Tyndall Good Samaritan Center, Tyndall, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with Msgr. Carlton Hermann officiating. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Tabor, at approximately 3:45 PM Saturday afternoon. Visitations will be 5 to 9 PM, Friday, (today), at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a scripture service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Helen was born on September 5, 1911 to Anton and Bozena (Vancura) Bares. Shortly before her birth her family immigrated to the United States. She had four brothers Ð Anton, Joe, George, and Wenceslaus and three sisters - Mary, Emma, and Bozena.

Helen was baptized and confirmed at St. Wenceslaus Church, Tabor, SD. She went to St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Tabor and attended through the eighth grade and always reminded her grandchildren to study hard and get a good education.

In her early years, she worked for several people taking care of children and doing house work. All the money she saved working was lost with the bank's closing during the depression years. She married George H. Schuch on February 25, 1935 at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Tyndall, SD. From this union five children were born.

They lived on the farm southeast of Tyndall, SD and then due to illness her husband passed away on March 21, 1966. She continued with the farming and household and with the help of her oldest son, George, was able to stay there until the age of 91, when she entered the Tyndall Good Samaritan Home due to a back injury.

She was a very hard worker baking bread, Kolaches, milking cows, washing clothes, and could do anything in the field, if needed, without a single complaint. She lived as simple as anyone could. Her smile will be missed the most!

Helen is survived by her children: George Schuch of Tabor, SD, Helen Harmuth of Aurora, CO, Bernard (Susan) Schuch of Berkley, CA, Delores Pesek of Yankton, SD, and Charles (Michelle) Schuch of Bellevue, NE and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and one son-in-law.
