Katherine was born on August 30, 1916, to John and Rose (Bruder) Hausman in Saint Helena, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm in the Saint Helena, Nebraska area. She married Leslie Melvin Logan on September 17, 1935, in Crofton, Nebraska. Leslie died on September 26, 2003, at the age of 89 years. She and Leslie lived on a farm west of Yankton. Throughout her life she was a devoted and loving Mother, putting her own needs aside to take care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Birthdays were never forgotten throughout the year, as this was an all important way to show her loved ones that she never forgot them. Everywhere she went, dear friendships were formed. Katherine was a member of the Catholic Ladies Clubs in the Saint Benedict Church: Rosary Makers, the Extension and the St. Isidore Circle Clubs. Her strongest passions were her flowers and sewing. Her patriotism even showed through as she always had the American Flag flying at her home. She considered voting both a privilege and an obligation. It was always a serious responsibility to her. She could recite the Preamble to the Constitution Word for Word, because as she would say, "It's very important."

A strong work ethic was ingrained in Katherine, which showed through in everything she did. She worked at Gurney's in Yankton, sold cosmetics and water distillers. For 20 years she was an aid to the nurses at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. She was always willing to do what needed to be done and do it with a smile.

Whatever Katherine did was done with her heart and her endless energy. Reading everything in sight was mandatory for her. Even social outings were focused on relationships as was every action she did. Gardening and sewing were special ways she was able to give to others. She took care of her children by sewing clothes for them. Her garden and flowers were not her own, as she took great joy in bringing flowers back to full bloom that weren't cared for properly and then sharing them with others. This giving attitude was always a part of Katherine, and it formed the basis of the long lasting relationship she had with her Grandchildren, Great- Grandchildren, Great-Great-Grandchildren, as well as their parents.

Katherine put her trust in Jesus as her Savior and knew she was going to heaven to be part of God's family.

She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Fred and Marlene (Logan) Schmidt, Harold and LaVone (Logan) Wuestewald, and Marlin Logan and Lauren Rogers, 18 Grandchildren, 37 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Kent was born June 19, 1929 in Olivet, SD to Warren & Leota (Barth) Wintersteen. He married Shirley Grimm on August 26, 1950 in Olivet, SD. To this union, 3 daughters and 2 sons were born. He joined the United States Army on September 27, 1951 and was honorably discharged September 11, 1953.

As a young boy, Kent was intrigued by Indian designs because he liked the solid colors. To this day, he has one of the most extensive privately owned and historically significant collection of Indian artifacts in the Midwest; with the majority of his pieces displayed at the Heritage Hall Museum in Freeman.

Kent was a rancher all his life, with a devotion to God, family and the land. Thursday, December 31, 1987 was the last day of a 34 year career with the U.S. Rural Postal Service. He rode his last mile on his Arabian horse to replicate the pony express. In his early years, he was a Boy Scout Troop Master, involved in the Youth Fellowship Group and a Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church, Women's Christian Temperance Union, Arabian Horse Association, Miracle of Jesus Pageant on the banks of the James River, Marchiannia Cattle Producer and Charter member of the Olivet Community Center.

Kent is quoted on his Indian artifact collection in an article reproduced from LIVING HERE Magazine. "The afternoon light is fading as Wintersteen abruptly concludes his narrative. Sinking into his easy chair, he sighs heavily. He is surrounded by tales and treasures of a bygone era. He is thinking about life...and he is thinking about death. 'My wife, Shirley, has been gone for ten years,' he says, his voice thick with emotion, 'and I miss her very much'. Wintersteen fingers a well-worn Bible on a side table, 'I have no fear of death whatsoever. I have the promise of seeing my wife again. Sometimes I feel a little bit guilty...because I look more forward to seeing my wife than to seeing the Lord.'"

He is survived by his sons, Kent (Lynn) Wintersteen, Jr. of Olivet, SD and Robert (Maggy) Wintersteen of St. Charles, IL; daughters: Sharee (Larry) DenHerder of Sioux Center, IA, Kris (Lee) Larson of Freeman, SD, and Cinda (Scott) Kutil of Castlerock, CO; grandchildren: Ross (Dena) DenHerder, Reid (Rhiannon) DenHerder, Maggie (Chad) Phelps, Thaddeus (Tammy) Larson, Tiffany (Andy) Bauman, Evan Wintersteen, Ellie Wintersteen, Joshua (Ryan) Wintersteen, Latisha (Bill) Mecha, Gavin (Allison) Kutil, Chelsie Kutil and Emily Kutil, and six great-grandchildren. He will be remembered the most by his grandchildren for their visits to Isenglass Hill and the "rainbow tree".

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Mary Weber and brother, Maurice Wintersteen.

Memorials can be directed to Compassion Radio, P. O. Box 2770, Orange, CA 92859-0700 or Olivet Community Center, P. O. Box 85, Olivet, SD 75052.
